Rapid synthesis of a hybrid of rGO/AuNPs/MWCNTs for sensitive sensing of 4-aminophenol and acetaminophen simultaneously

Dou Nannan,Qu Jianying

In this work, a hybrid of multiwalled carbon nanotubes, nanogold, and reduced graphene (rGO/AuNPs/MWCNTs) was synthesized rapidly with an easy method, and then combined with chitosan (CS), which was fixed on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to construct a new kind of electrochemical sensor to simultaneously determine 4-aminophenol (4-AP) and acetaminophen (AC). When detecting 4-AP and AC simultaneously, the linear range is 0.12~12 μM for acetaminophen and 0.05~25 μM for 4-aminophenol; the detection limit is 42 nM for acetaminophen and 2.95 nM for 4-aminophenol. Compared with previously related reports, the proposed sensor has an excellent electrocatalytic performance for the redox of 4-AP and AC, which can effectively determine 4-AP and AC simultaneously in actual samples and has potential application prospect. Carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH)-intercalated graphene oxide membranes for highly efficient treatment of organic wastewater

Wen-Juan Zeng,Chuang Li,Yue Feng,Shu-Huan Zeng,Bing-Xin Fu,Xiao-Liang Zhang

GO/CNTs composite membranes with fine hierarchical nanostructure were facilely fabricated by intercalation with 1D carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) into 2D graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets for efficient organic wastewater treatment. By characterization results of XRD, Raman, FTIR, TEM and water contact angle, MWCNTs-COOH was successfully to be intercalated into GO lamellar interlayers with grafting reactions, which would improve water permeated flux and stability of membrane. The influences of GO/CNTs ratios, loading amounts, CNTs types and support types on the membrane separation performance were systematically investigated towards methylene blue dye solution. For the GO/CNTs composite membranes prepared under the optimized conditions, the permeated flux of 34.4 L m −2 h -1 and rejection over 99.7 % were obtained towards methylene blue solutions under the transmembrane pressure difference of 0.9 bar, respectively. Compared with pristine GO membrane, it exhibited a nearly 10-fold water permeated flux improvement meanwhile maintaining high rejection. Moreover, the electrostatic interaction and size exclusion effects were synergistically contributed to be responsible for the efficiently separation properties of the GO/CNTs membranes towards different positively/negatively charged dyes and neutral organic molecules. Such the GO/CNTs membranes also exhibited good chemical stability for acid resistance with highly efficient separation performance.

Anchoring Metallic MoS2 Quantum Dots over MWCNTs for Highly Sensitive Detection of Postharvest Fungicide in Traditional Chinese Medicines

Xue Zhang,Juan Du,Dongping Wu,Xiaoyi Long,Dan Wang,Jianhua Xiong,Wanming Xiong,Xiaoning Liao

Carbendazim, a very common contamination to the traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), has posed serious threat to the environment and human health. However, sensitive and selective detection of carbendazim (MBC) in the TCMs is a big challenge for their complex chemical constituents. In this work, a 0D/1D nanohybrid was developed by anchoring 1T-phased MoS2 quantum dots (QDs) over multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) via a facile assembly method. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) together with EIS reveal that the 1T-phased QDs can anchor over MWCNTs via van der Waals forces, and the anchoring improves the nanohybrid surface area and conductivity. Therefore, the electrochemical sensor fabricated based on the MoS2 QDs@MWCNT nanohybrid shows excellent catalytic activity to MBC oxidation. Under optimized conditions, the sensor presents a linear voltammetry response to MBC concentration from 0.04 to 1.00 μmol·L–1, a low detection limit of 2.6 × 10–8 mol·L–1, as well as high selectivity, good reproducibility, and long-term stability. Moreover, the sensor has been successfully employed to determine MBC in two typical TCMs and the obtained recoveries are in good accordance with the results achieved by HPLC, showing that the constructed sensor plate holds great practical application in MBC analysis with complex matrix.

Achieving improved electromagnetic interference shielding performance and balanced mechanical properties in polyketone nanocomposites via a composite MWCNTs carrier

Yan Yang,Changping Feng,Yichun Zhou,Xiangjun Zha,Ruiying Bao,Kai Ke,Mingbo Yang,Changbin Tan,Wei Yang

A simple and scalable melt compounding strategy is reported to prepare polyketone (POK) nanocomposites with high electrical, dielectric , EMI SE and excellent mechanical properties using poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) as a carrier of MWCNTs based on the selective distribution and migration of MWCNTs in POK/PVDF blend. The electrical percolation threshold of the POK/PVDF/MWCNT nanocomposites is only a half of that of POK/MWCNT composites due to the homogeneous dispersion of MWCNTs and the double percolation network. The enhanced dielectric performance originates from the interfacial polarization and numerous microcapacitors comprised of MWCNTs within the polymer. The EMI SE performance of the nanocomposites is significantly enhanced due to the selective localization of MWCNTs in the POK phase which provides high conductivity and heterogeneous dielectric media with multiple interfaces. Thus, this study provides possibilities to realize a high-performance polymer nanocomposites and a wider EMI shielding application potentials for POK materials via a composite MWCNTs carrier.

Chenying An,Caihui Li,Haoqing Tang,Tao Liu,Zhiyuan Tang

High performance flexible electrodes with ultrathin and ultralight characteristics are great potential as power supply for foldable and wearable electronic devices. One major problem is how to combine active material with conductive substrate firmly in the absence of polymeric binder. Here, sandwich structure of flexible electrode is successfully prepared which Li 2 ZnTi 3 O 8 @multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composite as intermediate anode active ingredient and three-dimensional network MWCNTs as top and bottom conductive layers. The MWCNTs in active material and conductive layers cross-link each other to form a firm and stable three-dimensional network, which provides stereoscopic electron and ion transmission channels without metal copper substrate. This particular structure of electrode is effectively reduce the total weight and improve flexibility. Typically, the flexible Li 2 ZnTi 3 O 8 @MWCNTs electrode shows good cycling stability and achieved a high reversible capacity of 95.2 mAh g −1 after 1000 cycles at current density of 7000 mA g −1 with 89.0% capacity retention and 99% Coulombic efficiency. This study offers a new strategy for the development of high conductivity flexible electrode for wearable devices and deformable electronic devices.

Highly Sensitive Temperature-responsive Sensor Based on PS-PDEA-PS/C60-MWCNTs for Reversible Switch Detection of Catechol

Chao Chen,Pengcheng Zhao,Chunyan Li,Yixi Xie,Junjie Fei

A new type of temperature-responsive electrochemical sensor was constructed based on a glass carbon electrode modified by the composite containing temperature-responsive polymer polystyrene-poly N, N-diethyl acrylamide-polystyrene (PS-PDEA-PS) and fullerenes-carboxylate multi-walled carbon nanotubes (C 60 -MWCNTs). The sensor was used for the electrochemical detection of catechol (CC). When the temperature is higher than the critical temperature (LCST) of PS-PDEA-PS, the electrochemical behavior of CC can be detected, which it is in the “on” state. When the temperature is lower than LCST, the composite modified film is in the “off” state and the electrochemical behavior of CC was not detected. Under the best experimental conditions, the sensor has a good detection range for catechol from 4.0 to 135.0 μM, with a LOD of 1.45 μM. In addition, the proposed sensor has good stability and reproducibility, and was successfully applied to the determination of catechol in real tap water.

Zhuo Wang,Huiyu Huang,Li Zeng,Yuncheng Wang,Liang Lv,Cuiying Dai,Weiguo Mao,Xi Chen,Daining Fang

Free-standing MWCNTs/V 2 O 5 nanobelts composite architecture electrodes for lithium ion batteries (LIBs) are prepared based on hydrothermal method , electrostatic self-assembly approach and vacuum filtration deposition technique . Such kind of nanoarchitecture enhances the electrochemical kinetics and structural stability of V 2 O 5 cathodes. The distribution and evolution features of plane strains in free-standing MWCNTs/V 2 O 5 cathodes surface are in-operando monitored by using digital image correlation method and systematically discussed. The strain results show that the evolution of strain against potential obeys general Arrhenius relation under galvanostatic charge-discharge cycling. Considering the effect of lithium ion concentration, the elastic modulus of 20 wt% MWCNTs/V 2 O 5 electrode is confirmed via nanoindentation. The evolutions of average plane stresses in the free-standing MWCNTs/V 2 O 5 electrodes, as well as the contributions of mechanical and electrochemical components, are evaluated and discussed by mechano-electrochemical constitutive equation during electrochemical process. The analytical methods used in this article are universal for revealing the electrode mechano-electrochemical failure mechanism in LIBs.

Improvement of the thermal/electrical conductivity of PA6/PVDF blends via selective MWCNTs-NH2 distribution at the interface

Zhen Zhang,Ming Cao,Peng Chen,Bin Yang,Bin Wu,Jibin Miao,Ru Xia,Jiasheng Qian

In this study, selective distribution of amino-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-NH 2 ) in poly (vinylidene fluoride)/polyamide 6 (PA6/PVDF) blends is achieved via the mixing process and subsequent migration. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selective extraction confirmed that MWCNTs-NH 2 could migrate from the PVDF phase to the two-phase interface. The composites could significantly improve thermal/electrical conduction capacity of the composites with low dose. The thermal infrared characterization also indicated that the composites have better heat absorption capability and dissipation performance due to the good thermal conductivity . Rheological measurements exhibited the MWCNTs-NH 2 could form network structure with a low content at the interface of the composites. Moreover, the addition of MWCNTs-NH 2 led to an improvement in the mechanical properties compared with the pure PA6/PVDF blends. These results manifest that the thermal/electrical conductivity and mechanical performance of the composites with low filler loading can be significantly improved by selective distribution of MWCNTs-NH 2 through controlling the migration process.

One-step synthesis of CuS-decorated MWCNTs/paraffin composite phase change materials and their light–heat conversion performance

Xu Bin,Zhang Caixia,Chen Chenghua,Zhou Jing,Lu Congda,Ni Zhongjin

Paraffin wax (PW) is a solid–liquid organic phase change material (PCM). However, the low thermal conductivity and poor light–heat conversion performance limit its feasibility in solar thermal storage applications. In this paper, CuS-decorated carboxyl multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/PW light–heat conversion composite PCMs were prepared by one step. The structure and properties of the composite PCMs were studied by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimeter, thermogravimetric analysis, coefficient of thermal conductivity, UV–visible–near infrared spectrometer and light–heat conversion testing. The results showed that the light–heat conversion performance of CuS–MWCNTs/PW composite PCMs were better than that of MWCNT/PW composite PCMs with the same mass fraction. Therefore, it is expected that this research will open up new avenues of study for the creation of advanced composite PCM with excellent light–heat conversion performance.

A novel electrochemical aptasensor based on MWCNTs–BMIMPF6 and amino functionalized graphene nanocomposite films for determination of kanamycin

Xiaoli Qin,Wenjuan Guo,Huijing Yu,Juan Zhao,Meishan Pei

A simple electrochemical sensor based on a novel composite film consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), a room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BMIMPF6), and amino functionalized graphene (GR–CO–NH–CH2–CH2–NH2) was constructed for the detection of kanamycin. Firstly, MWCNTs–BMIMPF6 composites were fabricated on the surface of a glass carbon electrode (GCE). The synergy mechanism between the MWCNTs and RTIL has been discussed. Secondly, GR–CO–NH–CH2–CH2–NH2 was modified on the first film, which could greatly improve the conductivity of the electrode. The structure of the resultant graphene oxide (GO) was confirmed by FTIR and SEM. The properties of the aptasensor were characterized by electrochemical methods. Under the optimum conditions, the electrochemical aptasensor exhibited a wide linear range for kanamycin from 0.001 to 100 μM with a low limit of detection of 0.87 nM (S/N = 3). The as-prepared aptasensor showed high sensitivity, reproducibility and stability. Finally, the proposed electrochemical aptasensor was successfully applied for the detection of kanamycin in a real sample.

Xuehui Pang,Jianxiu Li,Yongbei Zhao,Dan Wu,Yong Zhang,Bin Du,Hongmin Ma,Qin Wei

A high-sensitivity electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was conducted to detect carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Nanocomposites of graphene oxide/carboxylated multiwall carbon nanotubes/gold/cerium oxide nanoparticles (GO/MWCNTs-COOH/Au@CeO2) were used as antibody carriers and sensing platforms to modify on glassy carbon electrodes (GCE). CeO2 nanoparticles were first exploited as an ECL luminescent material and the possible ECL mechanism was proposed in this work. GO/MWCNTs-COOH was used as a loading matrix for CeO2 nanoparticles because of the superior conductivity and large specific surface area. Au nanoparticles were further deposited on this matrix to attach anti-CEA and enhance the sensitivity of immunosensor. The proposed sensing platform showed excellent cathodic ECL performance and sensitive response to CEA. The effects of experimental conditions on the ECL performance were investigated. The proposed immunosensor showed the broad linear range (0.05–100 ng/mL) and the low detection limit (LOD, 0.02 ng/mL, signal-to-noise ratio = 3) according to the selected experimental conditions. The excellent analysis performance for determination of CEA in the human serum samples simplied this immunosensor displayed high sensitivity and excellent repeatability. More importantly, this conducted immunosensor broadens the use scope of CeO2 nanoparticles.

A novel substitution -sensing for hydroquinone and catechol based on a poly(3-aminophenylboronic acid)/MWCNTs modified electrode

Min Zhong,Yunlong Dai,Limei Fan,Xiaojing Lu,Xianwen Kan

A facile electrochemical sensor for hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC) determination was successfully fabricated by the modification of poly(3-aminophenylboronic acid) (pAPBA) film and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on a glassy carbon electrode (pAPBA/MWCNTs/GCE). The prepared sensor was characterized by scanning electron microscope and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Under optimal conditions, differential pulse voltammetry was employed to quantify individual HQ and CC within the concentration range of 5.0 × 10−7–4.0 × 10−5 mol L−1 and 7.0 × 10−6–1.0 × 10−4 mol L−1, respectively. Based on the covalent binding between the boronic acid groups of pAPBA film and the cis-diol-containing molecule, a novel substitution-sensing strategy was proposed for the highly sensitive determination of CC. With the addition of CC into HQ solution, covalent interaction between CC and APBA occurred and the HQ was displaced by CC, resulting in a decrease of HQ oxidation peak current and the increase of the CC oxidation peak current. The summation of both current changes (Δ|IHQ| + Δ|ICC|) were combined for CC sensitive detection in a concentration range of 4.0 × 10−8–1.7 × 10−5 mol L−1 with a limit of detection of 4.3 × 10−9 mol L−1. The sensor was successfully applied to the determination of CC in spiked water samples.
