To address the challenges of impedance mismatch and corrosion in electromagnetic wave absorption materials, this work synthesized NiSe 2 /NC/Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene composites by integrating the advantages of modified Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene and MOF-derived materials. The precursors for the Ni-MOF and MXene were prepared using a combination of multiple etching and microwave methods, followed by in-situ selenization pyrolysis under an argon atmosphere. By tuning the MXene content, the morphology, specific surface area, porous structure, and electromagnetic properties of the composites were precisely controlled. Under optimal conditions (pyrolysis temperature of 600 °C), the composite achieved a minimum reflection loss of −58.46 dB at 5.68 GHz with a thickness of 1.5 mm, within the 2–18 GHz frequency range. This outstanding performance is attributed to the synergistic effects of conduction loss, dipole and interface polarization, magnetic resonance, multiple electromagnetic reflections and scattering, and well-balanced impedance matching. Additionally, the composite exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, making it highly suitable for complex and challenging service environments. This work presents a novel strategy for developing materials with dual functions of superior electromagnetic wave absorption and corrosion resistance.

Since catalytic chemoselective reduction of corresponding nitroarenes is a significant route to produce functionalized anilines, developing inexpensive and highly active catalyst is imperia. Herein, the Co-Ce-H 2 salen-hmta composite was first prepared by grinded completely the mixture of Co-H 2 Salen and hexamethylenetetramine (hmta) in 1:1 mol ratio in a mortar. The 3d–4f hetero-metal Co-Ce-H 2 salen coordination polymer acted as a support precursor and hmta provided the nitrogen source. Then, a target catalyst of Co/NC-CeO 2 -hmta were afforded by pyrolysis of Co-Ce-H 2 salen-hmta composite at 800°C in the presence of argon atmosphere. When the target catalyst of Co/NC-CeO 2 -hmta and reference catalysts were applied for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes under N 2 H 4 , the target catalyst of Co/NC-CeO 2 -hmta exhibited better performance than reference catalysts in terms of conversion, yield, selectivity, and recyclability. Spectral analysis suggested that the high catalytic performance of a target catalyst of Co/NC-CeO 2 -hmta were attributed to highly dispersed metallic Co 0 , rich oxygen vacancies, and nitrogen-doped carbon matrix.

The application of peroxidase-like nanozymes in on-site detection was often restricted due to the cumbersome operation caused by necessary step of adding H 2 O 2 . Herein, a novel composite peroxidase mimic CuO 2 @S/Cu-NC with self-supplying H 2 O 2 function was prepared by in situ synthesis of the copper peroxide nanodots (CuO 2 ) on the S/N co-doping carbon-based copper nanozyme (S/Cu-NC). The CuO 2 could produce H 2 O 2 in acidic environment, and the in situ formed H 2 O 2 could immediately bind to the active sites of S/Cu-NC, resulting in the greatly accelerated catalytic reaction efficiency. Because of the property of H + -induced H 2 O 2 production of CuO 2 @S/Cu-NC, the changes of pH value could affect its peroxidase-like activity. Therefore, a sensitive and convenient method for histamine sensing was established. Furthermore, a convenient test swab was designed for the portable histamine detection and visual monitoring the of seafood freshness, which showed great potential of multifunctional nanozyme in the field of food monitoring.

We breakthrough the conventional high-temperature paradigm for synthesizing transition metal catalysts by discovering 500 °C as a critical metastable window in ultrafast (>1500 °C/s) Joule heating synthesis. This kinetically confined thermal shock at precisely 500 °C uniquely terminates metal aggregation while locking abundant pyridinic-N sites (2.86 at.%) that effectively anchor highly dispersed Fe and Co species, simultaneously sculpting a defect-rich carbon matrix. This unique combination, inaccessible in traditional pyrolysis, unlocks exceptional synergistic activity. Consequently, the 500 °C-engineered NC-FeCo catalyst achieves an oxygen reduction record: half-wave potential (0.92 V) surpassing Pt/C (0.85 V) and 1500 °C-treated analogs (0.85 V), while delivering near-theoretical 4e − selectivity (<1.2% H₂O₂), negligible decay (ΔE = 3 mV/5000 cycles), and superior methanol tolerance. Our work establishes sub-second 500 °C thermal shock as an innovative platform for metastable dual-metal electrocatalysis.

Antimony trisulfide (Sb2S3) is a highly promising anode material for alkali-metal batteries due to its high theoretical capacity and abundant resources. However, severe volume expansion during charge-discharge and low electrical conductivity restrict its electrochemical performance. In this study, Sb2S3@NC core-shell nanorod with hollow feature (H-Sb2S3@NC) was successfully prepared via high-temperature carbonization and secondary sulfidation of the inorganic-organic Sb2S3@PDA composite precursor. It would induce the volatilization of partial Sb2S3 by controlling temperature during carbonization, concurrently forming the inorganic core-shell nanorod structure and its hollow feature. Compared to Sb2S3@NC without hollow feature, H-Sb2S3@NC exhibits superior cycling and rate performance when as anode for sodium-ion (SIBs) and potassium-ion batteries (PIBs). Specifically, as anode for SIBs, H-Sb2S3@NC retains 517.0 mAh g⁻¹ after 100 cycles at 100 mA g⁻¹ and even delivers 535.5 mAh g⁻¹ at 1000 mA g⁻¹ (Sb2S3@NC: 60.6 mAh g⁻¹ after 100 cycles at 100 mA g⁻¹, 39.7 mAh g⁻¹ at 1000 mA g⁻¹). For PIBs, H-Sb2S3@NC provides 431.1 mAh g⁻¹ after 50 cycles at 100 mA g⁻¹ (Sb2S3@NC: 208.3 mAh g⁻¹ under the same conditions). Ex situ characterizations confirm Sb2S3 undergoes a reversible conversion-alloying reaction during Na⁺/K⁺ storage. The internal voids of H-Sb2S3@NC could effectively buffer volume expansion stress, while N-doping in the NC (nitrogen-doped carbon) layer enhances ion/electron transport. These two factors synergistically ensure electrode structural stability and excellent kinetics. The temperature-controlled microstructure regulation strategy proposed in this study provides an effective approach to addressing the volume expansion problem of Sb2S3-based anodes and optimizing the electrode performance of alkali-metal ion batteries.

An atomically dispersed FeCo-NC material with the 3D flower-like morphology was used as a unique substrate for the controllable deposition of ultrasmall NiFe layered double hydroxide nanodots (termed as NiFe-NDs) to simultaneously promote the sluggish kinetics of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The size-limiting growth of NiFe-NDs (~4.0 nm in diameter) was realized via the confinement of the 3D flower-like mesoporous structure and the rich N/O functionality of FeCo-NC. Benefiting from the distinctive structure with the simultaneously maximum exposure of both OER and ORR active sites, the NiFe-ND/FeCo-NC composite showed an ORR halfwave potential of 0.85 V and an OER potential of 1.66 V in 0.1 mol L −1 KOH at 10.0 mA cm −2 . In-situ Raman analysis suggested the activity of OER was derived from the Ni sites on NiFe-ND/FeCo-NC. Moreover, the NiFe-ND/FeCo-NC-assembled Zn-air battery (ZAB) exhibited a very small discharge- charge voltage gap of 0.87 V at 20 mA cm −2 and robust cycling stability. Furthermore, the NiFe-ND/FeCo-NC composite was also applicable for fabricating all-solid-state ZAB to power wearable electronics with superior cycling stability under deformation. Our work could enlighten a new applicable branch of atomically dispersed metal-nitrogen-carbon materials as unique substrates for fabricating multifunctional electrocatalysts.

Designing high-efficiency catalysts with earth-abundance elements for overall water splitting (OWS) in alkaline electrolyte has been unsettled owing to the non-negligible overpotential of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). An electrocatalyst with decent HER and OER activities in the same electrolyte is crucial for sustainable energy storage and conversion device. In this work, a nitrogen-doped porous carbon confined yolk/shell OWS catalyst of WC/Co 3 W 3 N/Co@NC has been prepared via calcination polyhedron encapsulation structure PW 12 @ZIF-8 @ZIF-67 generated by the epitaxial method. Because of the optimized chemical composition , the derived WC/Co 3 W 3 N/Co@NC multisite catalyst has outstanding OWS performance in 1 M KOH solution. For example, to reach a current density of 10 mA cm -2 , it only needs low overpotentials of 141 and 280 mV for the HER and OER, respectively. By using the easy operation and classical bubble extraction method , we find that the Faraday efficiencies of the catalyst for HER and OER are 94.3% and 97.4%, respectively. Moreover, taking advantage of the micropores and mesopores in the yolk/shell structure, it exhibits enhanced stability and promoted diffusion kinetics. This work initiates an effortless approach to the synthesis of the highly efficient yolk/shell carbon-based OWS electrocatalyst .

Bovine lactoferrin (LF) is widely used as a nutritional additive in infant formula and functional foods, but is also a milk allergen. Therefore, rapid and sensitive detection of LF is crucial for ensuring food quality and protecting public health. Here, we report a multimodal lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) for LF detection that integrates an M13 phage-displayed nanobody (M13-Nb) with a “four-in-one” multifunctional nanozyme, namely an AuPt nanoparticle-loaded CoCu-embedded nitrogen-doped carbon nanocomposite (CoCu-NC@AuPt). The specific M13-Nb against LF was isolated from a naïve nanobody library. The synthesized CoCu-NC@AuPt exhibits magnetic, colorimetric, peroxidase-mimetic, and photothermal properties, enabling magnetic enrichment and triple-mode sensing (colorimetric, catalytic colorimetric, and photothermal modes). The proposed assay achieved detection limits of 98 pg/mL, 8.49 pg/mL, and 37 pg/mL for the three detection modes, respectively. Practical applicability was verified in pasteurized milk, UHT milk, and yogurt samples, with recoveries of 86.2%–112.5% and coefficients of variation below 15%. This work provides a reliable and sensitive platform for on-site LF detection and demonstrates the potential of combining CoCu-NC@AuPt nanozyme with phage-displayed nanobodies to improve point-of-care testing performance.

The rational exploration of highly active and low-cost materials for electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution is extremely imperative, but remains challenging as well. Transition metal carbides (TMCs) as highlighted electrocatalysts usually exhibit unsatisfactory activity and stability. In this work, we demonstrate a two-step strategy for electrocatalyst synthesis involving biomass-derived tannic acid (TA) and coordination assembly preparation followed by subsequent high-temperature carbonization. Interestingly, by simply controlling the feed amount of TA, heterostructured nitrogen-doped graphene-coated Mo3Co3C-based tri- and bi-component electrocatalysts (Mo3Co3C/Mo2C/Co@NC and Mo3Co3C/Co@NC) can be obtained with phase regulation and interface engineering. It is observed that the heterostructured materials possess more active sites than that of the TMC-excluding sample (Co@NC). Moreover, the tri-component Mo3Co3C/Mo2C/Co@NC may enhance the intrinsic activity at each active site due to the strong interaction at the Mo3Co3C/Mo2C interface. These advantages allow the Mo3Co3C/Mo2C/Co@NC catalyst to deliver superior electrocatalytic activity and favorable kinetics towards the HER, with a low overpotential of 211 mV and a Tafel slope of 96.0 mV dec−1. Furthermore, it has good long-term stability. This work provides new inspiration for heterostructured TMC-based electrocatalysts with high performance towards promising catalytic applications.

Seeking a multifunctional electrocatalyst composed of earth-abundant elements for highly hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction and oxygen reduction reaction (HER, OER and ORR) is technically imperative for the electrocatalytic applications. Herein, we report HER , OER and ORR electrocatalytic performances of metal-organic framework (MOF) derived cobalt nanoparticles encapsulated in nitrogen-doped carbon and carbon nanotube (Co@NC/CNT). The optimized Co@NC/CNT hybrid shows superior HER and OER activities with a small overpotential of 137 mV and 302 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 , respectively. Furthermore, the Co@NC/CNT as an air-cathode in secondary Zn-air battery demonstrates a confined potential gap of 0.88 V over 200 h and a maximum power density of 53.4 mW cm −2 , which are much better than those of Pt/C. The outstanding performances are attributed to the synergistic effects from Co, and N embedded into carbon and CNT. More importantly, the unique surface structure contributes to expose many active sites for superior catalytic activity through allowing a large number of electrons. These outcomes not only prove a facile approach for the preparation of metals/carbon hybrid but also disclose its huge possible as a multifunctional electrocatalyst for sustainable energy systems .

Research on Ni/NiO electrocatalysts has advanced significantly, but the main obstacles to their use and commercialization remain their relatively ordinary activity and stability. In this paper, a chelating structure based on the coordination of multidentate ligands and Ni(II) is proposed to limit the growth of Ni and Ni oxide grains. These features reduce the particle size of Ni/NiO, increase particle dispersion, and maintain the high activity and stability of the catalyst. Aspartic acid, as a polydentate ligand, could coordinate with Ni2+ to form structurally stable chelate rings. The latter can limit grain growth, but also coat the active core with thin carbon layers after calcination to further achieve the confinement and protection of nanoparticles. The hydrogen evolution overpotential of prepared nitrogen-doped graphitized carbon shells (Ni/NiO@NC) nanoparticles was 100 mV (vs. RHE) when the current density was 10 mA cm−2 in 1 M KOH. The hydrogen evolution overpotential increased by only 4 mV after 6000 continuous cyclic-voltammetry scans. Moreover, when coated on different conductive substrates, the overpotential of this catalyst dropped to 34.6 mV (vs. RHE) at a current density of 10 mV cm−2. The lowest overpotential of the composite was only 194.9 mV at a current density of 100 mA cm−2, which is comparable with that of noble metal-based electrocatalysts. This work provides a plausible method for designing high-performance electrocatalysts of small size.

Catalytic transfer hydrogenation is an effective means of producing allylic alcohols from α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds with extremely high selectivity. A composite catalyst bearing Lewis acid and base sites was prepared from Al(NO3)3 and dopamine hydrochloride in a one-pot synthesis followed by thermal treatment in nitrogen. The resultant catalyst exhibited remarkably high performance in transfer hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde (CAL) to selectively produce cinnamyl alcohol (COL) using isopropanol as both hydrogen donor and solvent. A CAL conversion of 99.0% with COL selectivity of 98.9% was achieved under optimal conditions. This indicates that the nitrogen functional groups on N-doped carbon (NC), particularly pyrrolic-N and graphitic-N, significantly enhanced the catalytic efficiency of Al2O3. The enhancement of pyrrolic-N and graphitic-N in the vicinity of Al2O3 might be attributed to their concerted function in helping to deprotonate isopropanol. Based on the catalyst poisoning results, a catalytic mechanism with Lewis acid–base pairs was tentatively proposed. In addition, the composite catalyst exhibited high performances in the transfer hydrogenation of other α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, including furfural, benzaldehyde, cyclohexanone, and syringaldehyde, to selectively produce the corresponding allylic alcohols.
