Against the backdrop of pressing global challenges in energy transition and environmental sustainability, droplet-based electricity generator (DEG) have emerged as promising candidates for energy harvesting. However, its output performance under high-humidity conditions has been hampered by moisture-induced charge dissipation. Here, we report a humidity-resistant DEG (HR-DEG) inspired by Melocanna humilis leaves. Specifically, a bio-inspired hierarchical micro/nanostructure with condensation-shedding properties is fabricated by precisely controlling interactions between BTO, PTFE, and PDMS film. This design substantially reduces surface energy, thereby mitigating charge dissipation to ambient moisture and suppressing charge screening effects. Furthermore, the synergistic integration of the polarization-enhancing properties of BTO with the strong electronegativity of PTFE enables hierarchical charge regulation, leading to markedly improved output performance. Experimental results demonstrate that HR-DEG achieves an open-circuit voltage exceeding 230 V, an output charge of 315 nC, and a peak power of 83 μW while retaining approximately 90 % of its full-scale output at 90 % RH. Additionally, the device exhibits excellent moisture resistance after physical and chemical stability tests. Especially, even after more than 15,000 operation cycles and 90 days, HR-DEG still achieves an output of over 190 V. These results highlight the potential for energy harvesting in high humidity and other challenging conditions.

Optimizing the electrocatalytic interface for the electroreduction of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) in acid through the usage of cations in the electrolyte has shown its effectiveness in enhancing CO 2 conversion efficiency. However, such a positive impact in promoting CO 2 activation is limited by the solubility of salt, hence alternative ways to optimize the interface shall be sought for. Here, the hydrophobicity of the catalytic interface is tuned through the judicious design of a sandwich-like structure by covering the catalytic copper layer with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) particles. After optimizing the thickness of the PTFE layer on a commercial CuO X nanoparticle catalyst, an improved FE for multi-carbon products from 35.0% to 59.3% in 0.05 m H 2 SO 4 electrolyte with the addition of 0.8 m K + (pH = 1.6) is achieved. Moreover, in situ Raman spectroscopy proves that the hydrophobic layer facilitates the formation of * CO intermediates and promotes the transition of bridge-bonded * CO to atop-bonded * CO. The reduction of carbon monoxide (CO) is further performed at different partial pressures to reveal the critical role of * CO coverage for the formation of multi-carbon products. Collectively, it is proposed that the optimized hydrophobic modification of the catalyst effectively tunes the coverage of * CO intermediate as well as reduces the available water molecules at the interface, thereby promoting the formation of multi-carbon products and simultaneously suppressing hydrogen evolution reaction. The study illustrates a new venue toward improving the efficiency of CO 2 conversion in acid.

Urea synthesis by co-electroreduction of CO 2 and nitrate provides a promising strategy for sustainable fertilizer production. Despite advances in catalyst exploration, it is of significance to figure out the microenvironment on the electrode interface toward the kinetically matched C-N coupling. Here, we fabricated a hydrophobic triple-phase catalytic interface through a simply blending of commercial CuZn alloy and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) particles for proof of concept. Incorporating PTFE boosted the Faradaic efficiency of urea from 8 % to 49 % and tripled the urea production rate. Kinetics and in-situ spectra studies reveal that hydrophobicity slows the proton/electron transfer during nitrate reduction, accelerates CO₂ diffusion at the triple-phase interface, and preserves high-valent asymmetric adsorption sites. This synergy extends the lifetime and surface coverage of critical C-/N-intermediates, and thus kinetically-matched asymmetric C-N coupling.

This study employs hydrophobic modification of the current collector to optimize cathode water management and enhance the performance of passive DMFCs. The surface of the cathode current collector was hydrophobized by polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating and titanium dioxide/polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composite coating. The experimental results showed that the surface hydrophobic treatment significantly improved the cell performance at low methanol concentration and marginally improved the cell performance at high methanol concentration. Among them, the DMFC with bilayer TiO2/PDMS hydrophobic-treated cathode current collector with a contact angle of 153.2° showed the best performance, which achieved superhydrophobicity and led to a peak power density that was 27.25% higher compared to the DMFC with an untreated current collector. With the gradient-based hydrophobic treatment for the cathode current collector, the best performance was achieved when double-layer TiO2/PDMS was used on the MEA side and PTFE coating on the air side.

To address the low charge capture capacity and poor wear resistance of triboelectric materials, lithium-ion intercalation is employed to synthesize monolayer–multilayer hybrid MoS 2 nanosheets. Density functional theory calculations elucidate layer-dependent charge transfer and band structure modulation in the exfoliated MoS 2 , providing theoretical support for enhanced surface charge capture. By leveraging MoS 2 ’s exceptional charge-trapping capability and tribological advantages, a MoS 2 /polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composite film exhibiting high negative triboelectric polarity and ultralow friction characteristics is developed. The optimized 2.8 wt.% film exhibits a negative surface potential of −0.31 kV and a coefficient of friction (COF) of 0.07, representing a 416.7% increase in the absolute value of negative surface potential and a 65.5% reduction in COF compared to pure PTFE. The wind-driven triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) delivers 452 V, 58 µA, and 6.98 mW at 19.5 m s −1 , maintaining ≈95% of its initial open-circuit voltage over 21.6 million cycles. A self-powered heart rate monitor belt and respiratory sensor are fabricated, highlighting its potential for physiological monitoring. This work provides a strategy for triboelectric material design, offering a reference for developing high-performance and ultra-durable TENGs.

SiO 2 -EDTA composite particles are prepared by using nano-silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) as the loading particle and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as the scaling inhibitor. Then, SiO 2 -EDTA particle and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) micro powder are added in water-based silanized maleic anhydride-g-poly(1,2-butadiene) (SiMLPB) to fabricate composite coatings with good anti-scaling and anti-corrosion properties. The water contact angles (WCA) of SiMLPB increase to a maximum of 103° with the addition of PTFE at 3 wt% and then decrease slowly; based on this formulae, the WCA improves to 109 o when SiO 2 -EDTA is added up to 2 wt%. SiMLPB/PTFE coatings exhibit good corrosion resistance with the addition of PTFE; the SiMLPB/3%PTFE/2%SiO 2 -EDTA composite coating possesses impedance (| Z | 0.01Hz ) value at 2 orders higher than that of the SiMLPB/PTFE0 coating at low frequency, suggesting the much greater improvement in corrosion resistance due to the synergistic effects of adding nanoparticle as a surface modifier and EDTA as a corrosion inhibitor. The deposition of CaCO 3 on this SiMLPB/PTFE/SiO 2 -EDTA composite coating reaches 0.0132 g/cm 2 after 120 h scaling test, which is about 79% lower than that on the pure SiMLPB coating, resulting from the chelation of EDTA that promotes the formation of more unstable scales. The improvements in both anti-corrosion and anti-scaling performances are attributed to the hydrophobic function of PTFE and nanoparticle as well as the dual functions of EDTA at an appropriate addition of SiO 2- EDTA.

The mass transfer of O 2 /O 3 was improved at three-phase interface of CB‑PTFE. • CB enabled the synergistic reduction of O 2 /O 3 for •OH generation. • O 3 reduction and catalytic ozonation accelerated phenol mineralization. • Phenol removal and mineralization were 100% and 85% in ten-cycles. The electro-peroxone (E-peroxone) process suffered from the limited mass transfer and insufficient utilization of gaseous O 2 /O 3 mixture. Herein, a hydrophobic carbon black‑polytetrafluoroethylene (CB‑PTFE) electrode was fabricated to construct a gas‑liquid‑solid three-phase interface for improving phenol mineralization. The CB-PTFE electrode exhibited a high contact angle of 143.3°, which enhanced the mass transfer of O 2 /O 3 effectively. Compared with the hydrophilic carbon black‑polyvinylidene fluoride (CB‑PVDF) cathode (72.9°, 51.8%), CB‑PTFE achieved 86.0% TOC removal (0.016 min −1 ) at 120 min in E-peroxone, significantly outperforming sole ozonation (O 3 , 40.0%, 0.004 min −1 ) and electro‑oxidation (EO, 7.2%, 0.004 min −1 ). The greater TOC removal in CB-PTFE/O 3 (66.3%, 0.0095 min −1 ) than that in O 3 indicated that CB-PTFE had catalytic ozonation activity. Electrochemical analysis by a rotating ring‑disk electrode (RRDE) revealed that CB enabled simultaneous 2‑electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to H 2 O 2 (n = 2.23) and efficient 1‑electron O 3 electro‑reduction for increased cathodic current and hydroxyl radical (•OH) generation under the O 2 /O 3 atmosphere. The highest •OH yield (280.5 μmol/L) was obtained using hydrophobic CB-PTFE in E‑peroxone, and theoptimal conditions were the applied current of 20 mA, in‑gas O 3 concentration of 50 mg/L and neutral pH of 7.0. Furthermore, the hydrophobic CB‑PTFE electrode maintained nearly 86.0% TOC removal over ten-cycles with stable structural integrity, despite a slight decrease of hydrophobicity. The reduction of O 2 /O 3 , catalytic ozonation and peroxone reaction were coupled in E-peroxone synergistically, which offered a promising strategy for efficient pollutant abatement. The selective hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes to unsaturated alcohols is a cornerstone of fine chemical synthesis, yet it remains a formidable challenge due to competing hydrogenation of thermodynamically favored C C bonds over kinetically sluggish C O bonds. Here, we present a PtFe dual-atom catalyst anchored on defective polymeric carbon nitride (DPCN), which achieves nearly complete conversion and exceptional selectivity toward cinnamyl alcohol (COL) under mild conditions. Particularly, the PtFe/DPCN exhibits a superior turnover frequency and achieves 99.02 % conversion of cinnamaldehyde (CAL) with 99.34 % selectivity for COL at 70 °C and 2 MPa H 2 . Kinetic studies and in-situ DRIFTS analyses reveal that this dual-atom architecture facilitates preferential C O adsorption and hydrogenation while suppressing C C activation. In addition, DFT calculations further show that the Pt-Fe dual atomic pair lowers the activation barrier by modulating the d -band center and Gibbs free energy profiles, enhancing H 2 splitting and intermediate stabilization. This work demonstrates a promising strategy for fine-tuning electronic and geometric structures via dual-atom design, offering an effective route for developing highly selective hydrogenation catalysts under industrially viable conditions.

Advanced functional membranes consisting of low surface energy and tailored micropores are promising materials for oil-water separation applications. However, obtaining a high porosity yet controllable pore sizes to achieve high separation efficiency and flux remains challenging. Herein, four kinds of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powders with different particle sizes were simply sieved from a commercial resin and corresponding microporous membranes were fabricated through paste extrusion and thermal stretching processes. The microporous structure exhibited that choosing smaller powders caused the decrease of pore size but can still maintain a high porosity in stretched membranes, which was difficult to be realized by controlling processing conditions. The increased contact interfaces among small powders were regarded to promote the fibrillation during extrusion, thereby more entangled sites of fibrils were generated and only required a small amount of extension to get the target deformation during stretching. Consequently, more micropores with a smaller size were owned in the membrane by using smaller powders, which gave rise to superhydrophobicity with an ultrahigh water contact angle of 152° and superfast oil infiltration . As expected, the oil-water separation experiment obtained high separation efficiency closing 100% and the flux of 7500 L/m 2 ·h, which were competitive in comparison to most of previously-reported PTFE microporous membranes. More significantly, such an outstanding separation capacity was suitable for many kinds of oils with different densities and almost stable even after 15 cycles. Meanwhile, the microporous structure of the membrane prepared by using smaller powders was also proven to be deformed more slowly when subjected to a large strain. Accordingly, this work provides a new and practical approach for fabricating PTFE microporous membranes suitable for applying in a wide variety of oil-water separation fields.

Poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fiber and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) resin have been widely acknowledged as excellent wave-transparent materials for future high-frequency applications due to their exceptional dielectric properties. However, the weak interfacial bonding between these two materials hampers their full potential. In this study, we successfully addressed this limitation by enhancing the surface roughness of PBO fibers and introducing active sites through the in-situ grafting of silica nanowires. The added silica acted as an interfacial anchor on the PBO fiber surface, significantly improving the bonding force between PBO and PTFE. PBO/PTFE wave-transparent laminated composites were fabricated using hot compression molding. The results demonstrate that the PBO (treated with in-situ grown silica)/PTFE laminated composites exhibit superior interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), flexural strength, flexural modulus, and tensile modulus compared to the pristine PBO/PTFE laminated composites. Specifically, these properties are found to be 58.6%, 32.9%, 138.1%, and 25.35% higher, respectively. Additionally, these composites demonstrate low dielectric constant and dielectric loss. Most notably, they achieve a wave transmittance of 91.45% at 10 GHz, indicating significant potential for wide-range applications in next-generation advanced military weapons, such as “lightweight/high-strength/wave-transparent” electromagnetic window materials, as well as civilian communication base stations.

Membrane separation technology has emerged as a cornerstone for water purification due to its high separation efficiency, energy efficiency, and minimal environmental footprint. However, membrane fouling remains a critical challenge to its sustainable application, increasing energy consumption and operational costs. This study introduces a self-triggered polytetrafluoroethylenezeolite/imidazole framework-8 (PTFE@ZIF-8) composite membrane, capable of autonomous antifouling and enhanced separation by harnessing inherent flow energy to generate piezoelectric voltage oscillations and demonstrate piezo-catalytic activity. The enhanced piezoelectricity of the PTFE@ZIF-8 membrane resulted in superior antifouling capacity and significantly enhanced rejection performance compared to the pristine PTFE membrane. Detailed characterization and simulation studies revealed that the self-triggered piezoelectric voltage oscillations induced dielectrophoresis, which played a pivotal role in fouling control and separation enhancement. Additionally, the in situ generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during filtration further contributed to the antifouling performance. Increasing feed flow rates further boosted ROS production and piezoelectric outputs, improving separation efficiency without external energy input. This study advances energy-efficient water purification by leveraging flow energy to power antifouling and separation processes, aligning with sustainable resource management goals.

As 5G technology rapidly progresses, the demand for insulating dielectric materials with low dielectric constants, minimal dielectric loss, and enhanced thermal and mechanical properties has become increasingly critical. In order to combine the advantages of both fluoropolyimide (FPI) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), this study successfully developed an FPI/PTFE/FPI composite film with a sandwich structure that seamlessly integrated a commercial hydrophilic PTFE porous fibrous film and FPI. This structure capitalizes on the permeation effect of the FPI wet film to significantly improve interfacial interactions compared to traditional sandwich-structured composites. Consequently, the composite films have an excellent combination of properties. When the proportion of PTFE reaches 50%, the composite film remains stable across high-frequency bands (8.2 to 12.4 GHz), with an impressively low value of 1.5 at 9 GHz. The composite film also exhibits exceptional electrical breakdown strength (385.2 kV mm–1), tensile mechanical robustness (σb = 64 MPa, E = 2.1 GPa), thermal stability (Td5% = 496.1 °C, Tg = 306.2 °C), and a low coefficient of thermal expansion (51.7 ppm/K). Notably, the composite film still maintains good hydrophobic properties, with a water contact angle of 81.2° and a water absorption rate of 3.1%. This research also details an efficient coating method to fabricate flexible dielectric films, proposing a strategy for the development of advanced insulating materials suitable for high-frequency and high-speed communication applications.
