Humidity sensing is a promising method for monitoring respiration and diagnosing diseases. However, the fabrication of a semiconductor-based humidity sensor with fast response/recovery times and high sensitivity even under wet conditions remains challenging. In this study, a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) humidity sensor was fabricated using Sb-doped WO 3 nanocrystals via a simple solvothermal method . Sb doping increased the number of oxygen vacancies and led to a narrow band gap. It also restricted the further growth of WO 3 and provided more adsorption sites, which resulted in a small particle size and large specific surface area. The device displayed a wide range of relative humidity (0–85%) with fast response and recovery times (10 and 1.6 s, respectively) and good long-term stability. After 100 cycles of wet treatment, the response of the sensor recovered to 92.2%, showing good self-recovery ability. The Sb/WO 3 -based QCM sensors were applied to the sensitive monitoring not only of respiratory humidity but also of moisture changes of a wound; the latter had never previously been performed using a QCM. This study therefore provides valuable insights for the development of integrated wound-microenvironment monitoring.

Sb/Yb co-doped SnO 2 film was deposited on the glass with sol–gel to prepare high thermal insulation film with high visible transmittance. Its crystal structure is consistent with that of SnO 2 . Its sheet resistance first decreases then increases with Yb doping content, gets the minimum at 9.0 mol%, reduced about an order of magnitude compared with Sb doped film. Its visible average transmittance (380–780 nm) fluctuates a bit, gets the minimum 79.0% at 9.0 mol%, the maximum 84.1% at 6.0 mol%. Its average near-infrared transmittance (780–2500 nm) gets the minimum 27.9% at 9.0 mol%, decreases 70.2% compared with the glass.

Antimony (Sb) has been regarded as one of the most promising anode materials for both lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) and attracted much attention in recent years. Alleviating the volumetric effect of Sb during charge and discharge processes is the key point to promote Sb-based anodes to practical applications. Carbon dioxide (CO2) activation is applied to improve the rate performance of the Sb/C nanohybrid anodes caused by the limited diffusion of Li/Na ions in excessive carbon components. Based on the reaction between CO2 and carbon, CO2 activation can not only reduce the excess carbon content of the Sb/C nanohybrid but also create abundant mesopores inside the carbon matrix, leading to enhanced rate performance. Additionally, CO2 activation is also a fast and facile method, which is perfectly suitable for the fabrication system we proposed. As a result, after CO2 activation, the average capacity of the Sb/C nanohybrid LIB anode is increased by about 18 times (from 9 mA h g−1 to 160 mA h g−1) at a current density of 3300 mA g−1. Moreover, the application of the CO2-activated Sb/C nanohybrid as a SIB anode is also demonstrated, showing good electrochemical performance.

Herein, we demonstrate a hot-injection method towards the fabrication of \(\hbox {Sb}_{2}\hbox {S}_{3}\) . The evolution from amorphous \(\hbox {Sb}_{2}\hbox {S}_{3}\) nanoparticles to a sheaf of \(\hbox {Sb}_{2}\hbox {S}_{3}\) nanorods cross-linked together occurring with the increase of reaction temperature and time is studied. The structural, compositional and morphological features of \(\hbox {Sb}_{2}\hbox {S}_{3}\) products indicate the formation of crystalline \(\hbox {Sb}_{2}\hbox {S}_{3}\) with orthorhombic phase and high purity. As the reaction proceeds, it can be observed that the individual nanorod grows along the elongated direction ( c -axis), and it is noteworthy that its round cross-section could develop into the rectangular cross-section subsequently. In this study we also propose a possible formation mechanism for the growth process of \(\hbox {Sb}_{2}\hbox {S}_{3}\) , and it reveals that the present hot-injection could provide an ideal growth environment for synthesizing the nanostructured materials by optimizing the experimental parameters.

Graphical Blocky road : Sodium dual-ion batteries (SDIBs) with Sb/C/G anode and expanded graphite (EG) as cathode, NaClO 4 as salts can deliver superior electrochemical performance, for example, a high discharge capacity of 376 mA h g −1 with a higher ICE (69.1 %) at current density of 500 mA g −1 , a excellent cycling stability (73 mA h g −1 is retained even after 1400 cycles at current density of 1000 mA g −1 ), and high stable CE of 99.0 %. Sodium ion-based dual ion batteries (SDIBs) have attracted increasing attentions for their high operative voltages and low cost, but their poor long-term cycling stability and rate capability largely hinder their practical applications. Here, an optimized anode-antimony/carbon/graphene (Sb/C/G) composite for SDIBs is designed. Sb nanoparticles (NPs) not only can enhance the specific capacity but also facilitate the Na + diffusion kinetics. The continuous conductive carbon matrix can promote the electron transfer process and accommodate volume changes of Sb NPs during sodiation/desodiation. Therefore, superior electrochemical performance, for example, a high discharge capacity of 376 mA h g −1 with a higher ICE (69.1 %) at current density of 500 mA g −1 , an excellent cycling stability (73 mA h g −1 is retained even after 1400 cycles at current density of 1000 mA g −1 ), and high stable CE of 99.0 %. Our study offers a suitable design for Na + -based batteries anode structure and accelerates their practical applications.

The global detection and potential harm of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) call for the effective decomposition technology. In this study, the modified β-PbO 2 anodes with different hydrophobicity (Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/La-PbO 2 , Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/La-PbO 2 -PTFE and Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/La-PbO 2 -PVDF) were prepared to decompose aqueous PPCPs, i.e. isoniazid, methotrexate, carbamazepine, sulfamethoxazole and ibuprofen. PTFE and PVDF modification improved the physical property, electrochemical property, stability and safety of β-PbO 2 electrode. Moreover, Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/La-PbO 2 -PVDF had the highest oxygen evolution potential (1.95 V vs. SCE), the largest electroactive area (88.85 cm 2 ), the highest HO • production rate (10.44 mM min −1 m −2 ) and the best degradation performance for all the five PPCPs. The hydrophobic surface increased the proportion of free HO • , resulting in higher radical utilization rate and better degradation performance. The excessive hydrophobicity could decrease the degradation performance of PPCPs with high log K ow due to the relatively large hydrophobic force zone. Furthermore, the hydrophobicity enhanced the mineralization (current) efficiency of isoniazid, and its electrochemical degradation mechanism on Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/La-PbO 2 -PVDF was thoroughly proposed. These results demonstrated that Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/La-PbO 2 -PVDF anode exhibited a good application prospect in treating wastewater containing PPCPs.

A Ti/Sb–SnO2 electrode modified with titanium nitride (TiN) nanoparticles was prepared by the pulse electro-codeposition method. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy show that compared with Ti/Sb–SnO2, the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has a small unit cell volume of tetragonal SnO2 and a refined, compact particle film. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows that introducing titanium nitride nanoparticles facilitates the formation of Sb5+. And the adsorbed hydroxyl oxygen species content of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN (43.07%) is higher than that of Ti/Sb–SnO2 (21.85%), indicating that the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has more active sites for electrochemical oxidation of organic pollutants. In 0.25 M Na2SO4 solution, the charge transfer resistance of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN (150 ohm) is much smaller than that of Ti/Sb–SnO2 (1334 ohm). With a constant current density of 100 mA cm−2, the accelerated service lifetime of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN is improved significantly, which is 15.7 times as long as that of Ti/Sb–SnO2. The Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode is demonstrated to have a prominent ability for oxidative decolorization of methylene blue. The results also confirm that the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has a higher decolorization efficiency and kinetic rate constant, which are 1.54 and 3.24 times as efficient as those of Ti/Sb–SnO2, respectively.

The removal of highly toxic arsenic (As) and antimony (Sb) contaminants in water by adsorption presents a great challenge worldwide. Conventional adsorbents exhibit insufficient efficacy for removing pentavalent oxyanions, As(V) and Sb(V), which are predominant compared with the trivalent species, As(III) and Sb(III), in surface waters. Here, we synthesized a novel composite adsorbent, amine-functionalized polystyrene resin loaded with nano TiO 2 (AmPSd-Ti). The mm-scale spheres showed outstanding adsorption capacities for As(III), As(V), Sb(III), and Sb(V) at 73.85, 153.29, 86.80, and 123.71 mg/g, respectively. AmPSd-Ti exhibited selective adsorption for As and Sb in the presence of Cl - , NO 3 - , SO 4 2- , and F - . As and Sb were adsorbed by the nano-sized TiO 2 confined in the porous resin via forming inner-sphere complexes. The protonated amine groups enhanced the adsorption of As(V) and Sb(V) by electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding, which was confirmed by experimental results and molecular dynamics simulations. Fixed-bed column tests showed breakthrough curves with adsorption capacities of 1.38 mg/g (6600 BV) and 6.65 mg/g (1260 BV) upon treating real As-contaminated groundwater and Sb-contaminated industrial wastewater. Our study highlights a feasible strategy by incorporating inorganic metal oxides into organic polymers to achieve highly efficient removal of As and Sb in real-world scenarios.

Preliminary studies have demonstrated that light can facilitate the biogeochemical cycling of iron, influencing the valence state of heavy metals, solidifying them, and ultimately achieving detoxification effects. However, few studies have focused on the oxidation of Sb(III) in different iron minerals and the differences in mechanisms. This study explored the photooxidation of Sb(III) in the presence of various iron minerals (hematite, pyrite and goethite), focusing on how different iron minerals influenced the oxidation process and the mechanisms involved. Among the minerals tested, pyrite exhibited exceptional photooxidation performance, achieving an Sb(III) oxidation efficiency of 67.03% after 300 minutes. This superior photooxidation activity correlated with pyrite’s significant Fe(II) yield (11.70 μg/L). Our study demonstrated that light irradiation enhanced Sb(III) oxidation through three iron-based minerals. Light exposure drove the generation of Fe(II) within these minerals, initiating Fe(II)/Fe(III) redox cycling. This process promoted reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, including hydroxyl radicals (•OH), superoxide radicals (O 2 •− ) and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), which collectively mediated Sb(III) oxidation to the less toxic Sb(V). In the photooxidation of Sb(III), •OH played a critical role in reactions involving hematite and pyrite, while O 2 •− dominated in goethite and pyrite systems. H 2 O 2 was found to have a pivotal role across all three iron mineral systems. Additionally, photogenerated holes ( h + ) significantly enhanced Sb(III) oxidation in the pyrite system. This research highlighted the impact of light on the biogeochemical cycling of iron and its role in facilitating the oxidation of Sb(III) through reactions that involve photo-generated electrons and free radicals.

In this work, the core-shelled Sb@Sb 2 O 3 heterostructure encapsulated in 3D N-doped carbon hollow-spheres is fabricated by spray-drying combined with heat treatment. The novel core-shelled heterostructures of Sb@Sb 2 O 3 possess a mass of heterointerfaces, which formed spontaneously at the core-shell contact via annealing oxidation and can promote the rapid Na + /K + transfer. The density functional theory calculations revealed the mechanism and significance of Na/K-storage for the core-shelled Sb@Sb 2 O 3 heterostructure, which validated that the coupling between the high-conductivity of Sb and the stability of Sb 2 O 3 can relieve the shortcomings of the individual building blocks, thereby enhancing the Na/K-storage capacity. Furthermore, the core-shell structure embedded in the 3D carbon framework with robust structure can further increase the electrode mechanical strength and thus buffer the severe volume changes upon cycling. As a result, such composite architecture exhibited a high specific capacity of ≈573 mA h g −1 for sodium-ion battery (SIB) anode and ≈474 mA h g −1 for potassium-ion battery (PIB) anode at 100 mA g −1 , and superior rate performance (302 mA h g −1 at 30 A g −1 for SIB anode, while 239 mA h g −1 at 5 A g −1 for PIB anode).

The combination of multi-metallic alloys and support materials is a promising approach for the design of electrocatalysts. In this study, Pd-M (M = Fe, Sb, Pb, Sn, Ag) bimetallic alloys embedded composites of 2D Ca-based metal–organic framework (Ca-MOF) nanosheets and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were fabricated by a facile hydrothermal and impregnation reduction method, then applied as ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) electrocatalysts. Remarkably, the forward peak current density of the best catalytic performer PdAg@rGO/Ca-MOF is as high as 258.30 mA cm −2 , which is 9.55 times greater than that of Pd/C. It also exhibits the biggest electrochemical active surface area of 3022.51 m 2 g −1 . After 3600 s chronoamperometry test, the retained current density of PdAg@rGO/Ca-MOF is about 87.94 % of the initial current density. These results imply that bimetallic Pd-M@rGO/Ca-MOF have superior electrocatalytic activity and anti-CO poisoning capacity compared to monometallic and Pd/C for EGOR, especially PdAg@rGO/Ca-MOF. The enhanced EGOR performance is due to the combined effect of Pd-M alloys and folded thin layer wrapped nanosheet rGO/Ca-MOF composites.

The electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) to methane (CH4) represents a promising strategy for carbon utilization, however, achieving high selectivity and efficiency remains a significant challenge. Herein, a copper foil-based catalyst with abundant interfaces was synthesized through electrodeposition to achieve Sb and F dual doping on the copper surface (CuSbF-ED), enabling efficient methane production through pulsed CO2 electrolysis. Under the pulsed electrolysis condition, the CuSbF-ED catalyst achieved a remarkably high CH4 Faradaic efficiency of approximately 92.6% and a partial current density of 60.3 mA•cm-2 at an overpotential of -1.2 V vs RHE, representing significant advancement over the static electrolysis performance of pristine copper foil. The in situ infrared spectroscopy results revealed an enhanced coverage of key intermediates *CHO on the CuSbF-ED surface during pulsed electrolysis. Theoretical calculations further confirmed that the CuSbF-ED structure with Sb and F dual doping stabilizes *CO intermediates and promotes the formation and adsorption of *CHO intermediates. Under the pulsed electrolysis conditions, the stabilized Cu species on CuSbF-ED surface facilitate the further conversion of adsorbed *CHO and *CH2O intermediates by deep hydrogenation processes toward high CH4 selectivity. The present research highlights Sb-F dual doping combined with pulsed potential electrolysis as a promising approach for the efficient and selective electroreduction of CO2 to CH4, contributing to sustainable carbon management
