With the proliferation of electronic devices and wireless technologies, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) has become a critical global concern. Correspondingly, the development of efficient EMI shielding materials with strong electromagnetic wave absorption and reflection is imperative. This study presents the fabrication of sandwich-structured composite films (SCFs) utilizing regenerated cellulose (RC) as the matrix, incorporating Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene and Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 NPs) as functional fillers. The SCFs (MXene/RC-Fe 3 O 4 /RC-MXene/RC) were fabricated using an immersion phase conversion method followed by mechanical pressing techniques. The resulting SCFs exhibit a conductivity of 23.8 S/m and a maximum EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of 32.52 dB. This performance is attributed to the innovative sandwich architecture, which employs a “reflection-absorption-reflection” mechanism to attenuate electromagnetic waves. In addition, MXene is effectively dispersed in the cellulose matrix, enhancing the mechanical properties of the composite films. Notably, increasing the MXene content from 10 wt% to 40 wt% resulted in a tensile strength increase from 9.42 MPa to 17.10 MPa. This research elucidates a robust and scalable approach for the development of advanced electromagnetic shielding materials.

MXene can generate high-temperature pulses (HTP) by the physical/chemical coupling effect under laser irradiance and is a good initiator for laser ignition. The main obstacle in the application on laser ignition of MXene based materials is the incomplete oxidation and reduced energy output resulting from the inert TiO 2 passivation layer. In this study, we proposed an efficient approach to significantly enhance the thermal oxidation and energy release under laser irradiance by decorating hydrophobic 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (PFTE). The CFx produced by the decomposition of PFTE under laser irradiance can react with Ti atoms on the surface of MXene to prevent the formation of the oxide layer. This process releases a large amount of heat and completely oxidizes MXene. As expected, some rutile nano-crystals are distributed on the surface of fully oxidized MXene and the energy output of MXene/PFTE composite is 6.1–8.3 kJ/g which is much higher than pristine MXene. The mechanism of the thermal oxidation process is proposed to explain the enhanced energy output of the MXene/PFTE by thermal analysis and time-resolved emission spectrum (TR OES). Furthermore, the MXene/PFTE membrane significantly enhanced the laser ignitibility of 2,4,6,8,10,12-(hexanitrohexaaza)cyclododecane (CL-20) reducing the laser intensity and shortens the ignition time.

Flexible micro-supercapacitors (FSCs), with their outstanding flexibility and low weight, offer great potential for a wide range of applications in the field of flexible electronics. Herein, the few-layer Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene hybridized with commercial PEDOT:PSS dispersion are used as ink for aerosol jet printing (AJP) to fabricate interdigitated and double-helix electrodes on 2D polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films and 1D thermoplastic polyurethane fibers, respectively. By controlling the evaporation behavior of aerosol microdroplets during the printing process, a transformation from 2D Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets to 3D wrinkled spherical structures on the surface of the flexible substrate is achieved, which increases the accessibility of ions to the electrochemical active sites. In addition, the introduction of PEDOT:PSS as a “bridge” connecting the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene-wrinkled spheres not only enhances the electronic conductivity within the electrode but also improves the bending stability of the electrode. Consequently, the optimized MXene/PEDOT:PSS-based planar and fiber-architectured FSCs exhibit excellent areal capacitance and flexible stability. This work highlights the significant potential of AJP technology in developing electronic devices with fascinating functionalities on various flexible substrates.

The two-dimensional nano MXenes have unique microstructures and physicochemical properties, showing great potential in enhancing or replacing traditional metal processing lubricants. Here, a stable oil-in-water emulsion was constructed by coassembling Ti3C2TX MXene modified with phosphonic acid containing C10 alkyl chain and Tween 80 at the oil–water interface. The emulsion exhibits efficient friction-reducing and antiwear performance as well as corrosion resistance. The effect originates from the formation of a physical adsorption film and tribochemical reaction film stabilized by the interlocking of long carbon chains on the friction interface. This study provides a model of “material functionalization-interface synergy” for developing metal processing lubricants.

Portable electrochemical sensors are essential for real-time ion detection in environmental and clinical analysis, with ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) serving as a key platform due to their reliance on polymer membranes (ISMs) and conductive materials for selective recognition. This study compares traditional carbon fiber ISEs (CF-ISEs) with MXene-based alternatives. CF-ISEs use Ag/AgCl with polyelectrolyte transducers (PSS/PEI), while MXene-modified CF-ISEs (MXCF-ISEs) replace polyelectrolytes with MXene to enhance sensitivity. 1) MXene-only electrodes (no additional layers) are fabricated on glass and 2) screen-printed MXene ISEs (SPMXEs) are fabricated on flexible substrates (PVC) for Ca 2 ⁺-ions sensing. All designs are tested in complex media like milk, sparkling and seawater, demonstrating robust performance. MXene's high conductivity and compatibility with printing techniques enable cost-effective sensors without sacrificing accuracy, even without complex modifications. These results highlight MXene's potential to replace conventional materials in next-generation portable sensors, particularly for point-of-care diagnostics and environmental monitoring, where flexibility, sensitivity, and low-cost production are critical.

Layered MXene-based magnetoelectric composites have been extensively investigated and applied as microwave absorbing (MA) materials. Although multicomponent composite strategies have been proven to significantly improve the MA performance of materials, the fine structural design and optimization of the functional synergy of absorbers at intricate environments remain scientific issues worthy of further exploration. In this study, FeCo@C/Ti3C2Tx MXene composites were synthesized through a combination of chemical vapor deposition and electrostatic self-assembly techniques. The core–shell structure of ultrafine FeCo@C nanoparticles, with an average diameter of 13.51 nm, has effectively mitigated the adverse effects of harsh environmental conditions due to chemical stability of the carbon layer. Furthermore, the integration of ultrafine FeCo@C nanoparticles with a low filler loading contributed to the overall lightweight characteristic. Notably, the FeCo@C/Ti3C2Tx MXene composites with a 20 wt % filling ratio exhibit a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of −31.6 dB at 1.7 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth of 5.76 GHz at 2.4 mm. The corresponding absorbing coating achieves a maximum reduction in the radar cross-section of 18.86 dBm2. The FeCo@C/Ti3C2Tx MXene composites exhibit the potential for applications in challenging environments, including high-temperature and humid conditions.

A significant challenge metal nanoparticles (NPs) used for electromagnetic wave (EMW) is the precise regulation of the interplay between dielectric and magnetic losses through multi-scale interface engineering, as well as achieving a wide broadband for absorbing materials. In this study, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/Ni composites were successfully synthesized in situ via a simple and mild solvothermal method. The influence of the size of Ni NPs on the EMW absorption performance was investigated. The results demonstrate that the size of Ni NPs could be regulated by varying the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene content, resulting in a synergistic balance between dielectric and magnetic losses, significantly improving wideband impedance matching (3.00–12.80 GHz). The Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/Ni composites achieved a minimum reflection loss (RL m ᵢ n ) of −50.70 dB at 3.76 GHz, with an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 3.20 GHz. Characterization results reveal that size-dependent permeability dispersion and dielectric relaxation behavior synergistically optimize both impedance matching and loss mechanisms. This study provides a novel design strategy for enhancing the electromagnetic attenuation performance of MXene-based composites.

The simultaneous monitoring of lactate and potassium ions (K⁺) in blood is critical for the management of critical conditions like crush syndrome, yet it remains a significant challenge. Herein, we present a novel integrated microfluidic electrochemical sensor for the dual-mode detection of these biomarkers. The sensor leverages a synergistic composite of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene and electrodeposited gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to create a highly sensitive sensing interface. The microfluidic chip, fabricated with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), incorporates two independent detection chambers functionalized with lactate oxidase (LOx) and a valinomycin-based ion-selective membrane, respectively. This design enables specific and parallel detection from a single sample. The fabricated sensor demonstrated excellent performance. In a KCl solution, the sensor exhibited a linear range of 1 μM to 10 mM and a low LOD of 1 μM. In the 1 × PBS configuration of lactate solution, the sensor showed a linear range of 10 μM to 16 mM and an LOD of 10 μM. When applied to the analysis of rat plasma samples, the sensor showed strong correlation with a commercial hematology analyzer, confirming its accuracy and practical utility. This work provides a promising platform for point-of-care testing, offering a fast, convenient, and reliable method for simultaneous biomarker monitoring.

Transition metal carbides (M x C y ) have recently emerged as promising candidates for sodium-ion battery (SIB) anodes, among which Mo 2 C stands out due to its metallic conductivity and favorable Na + migration characteristics. Nevertheless, substantial volume expansion and severe particle agglomeration during cycling impair structural integrity and cycling stability, thereby hindering its practical application. To tackle these intrinsic limitations, we synthesized morphology-modulated Mo 2 C/MXene composites by adjusting the mass ratio of Mo source to MXene precursors. One of these composites forms a 3D hierarchical porous framework, in which Mo 2 C nanocrystals are uniformly anchored on conductive Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene sheets, and is named Mo 2 C / MXene-S. MXene acts as an effective electron-transport network and mechanical buffer to alleviate volume fluctuation of Mo 2 C and suppress structural pulverization. Benefiting from the synergistic effect, the Mo 2 C/MXene-S anode exhibits reversible capacities of 406.5/143.6 mA h g −1 at 0.1/2 A g −1 and retains 296.1 mA h g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 1500 cycles. Kinetic analysis shows that Na + storage is dominated by surface-controlled pseudocapacitance. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the composite optimizes Na + adsorption and reduces the diffusion energy barrier. The Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 //Mo 2 C/MXene full cell displays stable cycling, offering an effective strategy for developing high-performance SIB anodes.

Traditional oil absorption and oil-water separation methods have significant shortcomings such as low efficiency, high cost and environmentally unfriendly, developing efficient oil absorption and recyclable recovery materials has become more desirable for industrial applications. Herein, we fabricate the anisotropic polyimide (PI)/Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene composite aerogels with highly elastic mechanical performance and outstanding flame retardancy, thermal insulation and oil absorption properties via an unidirectional freeze drying method. The introduction of strong hydrogen bonding interactions between Ti 3 C 2 T x and PI matrix is beneficial to the structure integrity and mechanical properties of the composite aerogels. The samples show excellent mechanical properties along the axial direction and highly elastic properties along the radial direction. The compressive modulus and strength of the T 1 P 4 composite aerogel are 5.16 and 0.55 MPa, respectively, and only the minimal plastic deformation and low energy loss coefficient can be observed for the composite aerogel even after 500 compression cycles. Moreover, the PI/Ti 3 C 2 T x composite aerogels has low thermal conductivity, superior flame retardancy and thermal insulation, and excellent oil absorption properties. The surface temperature is 40.6 °C for the T 2 P 1 composite aerogel with 15 mm thickness after annealing on the hot stage at 180 °C for 5 min. The water contact angle of the T 1 P 4 composite aerogel is 123°, and the oil absorption capacity of lubricant oil is 1126%. Furthermore, the composite aerogel exhibits stable oil absorption capacity even after 50 cycles, which demonstrates great potential for practical applications in cyclic oil absorption.

Under the background of sustainable energy development, the development of efficient, stable and low-cost electrocatalysts to improve electrochemical performance has become a research hotspot in the field of energy conversion. In this work, upright, one-fold and oblique Ni nanorods were designed and grown on Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets via glancing angle deposition technique of physical vapor deposition. For the hydrogen evolution reaction, the composite Ti 3 C 2 T x @upright exhibited a low overpotential of only 131 mV@10 mA/cm 2 , along with excellent 24 h stability in 1 M KOH. Its excellent performance is mainly attributed to the high porosity of the upright nanorods, the fast electron transport channels provided by Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, and the stable interface structure. This research provides new ideas for constructing high-performance electrocatalytic catalysts and achieving efficient electrocatalytic conversion in sustainable energy systems.

MXenes possess low interlayer shear stress, high mechanical strength and tunable structure, making them highly effective in enhancing low-friction and wear-resistant properties in lubrication systems. However, their application as oil-based lubricant additive is limited by poor dispersion stability in base oils. In this work, a nanocomposite supramolecular oleogel with three-dimensional network structure was prepared by integrating functionalized MXene with urea-based gelator. The MXene nanosheets were modified by 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-(3- octadecylureido) propanoic acid (DOPA) and then effectively encapsulated within the supramolecular gel network, significantly reducing agglomeration and ensuring stable dispersion in base oil PAO10 for over five months. The resulting DOPA@MXene oleogel (DOPA@MXene Gel) exhibited good lubrication performance, with the average friction coefficient decreased from 0.168 to 0.102 and the wear volume exhibited an 81.83 % decrease compared to base oil. Additionally, the load-carrying capacity of DOPA@MXene Gel was enhanced to from 50 N to 450 N. These improvements are attributed to the synergistic interaction between DOPA@MXene and the oleogel, which collaboratively form a complex protective film during friction. This study offers an effective strategy for improving the dispersion of MXene-based lubricant additive and achieving superior tribological properties.
