As the misuse of antibiotics increases bacterial resistance, the treatment of infected wounds caused by bacteria encounters significant challenges. Conventional antimicrobial dressings often fall short in their ability to inhibit bacterial infections while simultaneously promoting wound healing. To address this issue, a polysaccharide self-healing hydrogel (CPP@PDA/Que3) wound dressing is successfully developed by incorporating quercetin and polydopamine nanoparticles into a carboxymethyl chitosan matrix. The dressing can be easily injected locally to create a protective barrier over the wound, effectively stopping bleeding and rapidly inhibiting inflammation. Furthermore, the CPP@PDA/Que3 hydrogel exhibits remarkable antioxidant and antibacterial properties, stemming from the combination of quercetin and near-infrared (NIR) photothermal therapy. It demonstrates the ability to eliminate 99.52% of Staphylococcus aureus and 99.39% of Escherichia coli in in vitro antibacterial experiments. Additionally, the in vivo wound healing experiment shows a healing rate of ≈97%. The experimental results indicate that under NIR laser (808 nm) irradiation, the polysaccharide-based hydrogel dressing significantly inhibits bacterial growth, reduces oxidative stress, expedites angiogenesis, and thereby accelerates the transition from inflammation to wound healing. In summary, the CPP@PDA/Que3 hydrogel exhibits significant potential as a wound dressing, providing a novel approach for clinically advancing the treatment of bacterial wounds.

Hemoperfusion is a common treatment for lead poisoning, where hemoperfusion adsorbents are used to remove lead ions from blood. However, traditional hemoperfusion adsorbents often suffer from limited efficiency and poor biocompatibility, reducing their effectiveness for human use. To address these limitations, we developed a novel photothermal nanomotor adsorbent through a controllable sequential super-assembly strategy. Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) were incorporated into the nanochannels of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs), followed by modification of the outer HNT surface with polydopamine (PDA) and 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA), forming Au@HNTs@PDA-DMSA. This nanomotor adsorbent leverages the photothermal properties of Au NPs to achieve self-propulsion via thermophoresis under near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation. The performance of this nanomotor was evaluated for Pb(II) removal in both aqueous solutions and human blood samples, reaching adsorption equilibrium within 20 min and a maximum capacity of 45.980 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model with a high fitting coefficient (R 2 = 0.999), and the Langmuir model fit better than the Freundlich model, indicating monolayer adsorption. Notably, when driven by 808 nm NIR light at 1.0 W cm −2 , the Au@HNTs@PDA-DMSA nanomotors showed a significantly enhanced adsorption capacity of 151.769 mg/g, improving blood lead removal efficiency by 1.80 times compared to non-irradiated conditions. Furthermore, the addition of sulfhydryl and carboxyl groups from DMSA provided more active sites, leading to a 9.76-fold increase in lead removal compared to passive adsorbents using HNTs. In vitro tests confirmed the excellent biocompatibility and biosafety of the nanomotor adsorbent, achieving a blood lead removal rate of 91.25 %. This advancement overcomes the limitations of traditional lead adsorbents, offering a promising solution for more effective lead detoxification in clinical and environmental settings.

The resistive-switching-based logic gates are the promising electronic components for future digital logic operation in integrated circuits based on resistive random access memories (RRAMs). In particular, the logic gates controlled by near-infrared (NIR) light within the tissue optical window become more attractive in the practical application of in vivo manually controlled biocompatible microchips. In this work, fibrous MXene@MAPbI3-based resistive switching storage devices that are NIR-responsive at 1064 nm are prepared via a simple dip-coating process by introducing monolayer Ti3C2Tx-TBAOH MXene nanosheets with an excellent NIR absorption into the perovskite precursor solution. The 0.05 wt% Ti3C2Tx-TBAOH-modified MAPbI3-based RRAM device achieves the highest ON/OFF ratio of approximately 108, which is two orders of magnitude higher than the pristine device. Ti3C2Tx-TBAOH-modification produces a low SET voltage of +1.34 V under 1064-nm laser illumination compared with +2.22 V in the dark. More interestingly, the 1064-nm laser illumination on the Ti3C2Tx-TBAOH-modified device presents a well-defined NIR-responsive state at 1064 nm in the perovskite RRAM device and finally realizes NIR-controlled logic gates at 1064 nm for in-memory computing, such as “AND”, “OR” and “NOT”. This kind of NIR-responsive fibrous resistive switching logic device has potential application in future e-textiles as fundamental building blocks for integrated data-storing and information-processing function, especially in the in vivo manually controlled biocompatible microchips.

Superhydrophobic coatings with special wettable surfaces hold significant promise for applications in self-cleaning, anti-corrosion, and other industrial domains. However, their practical implementation is hindered by fragile mechanical durability and poor chemical stability. This study addresses these limitations by developing near-infrared (NIR)-responsive self-healing superhydrophobic coatings using a one-step spraying method. Epoxy resin serves as the shape memory matrix, while DTMS@PDA@SiO 2 @CNTs particles function as photothermal conversion agents and hydrophobic components. The optimal synthesis parameters—reaction pH of 8.5, a carbon nanotube (CNTs) to TEOS ratio of 1:3, and a dopamine (DA) to CNTs ratio of 1:1—were determined to maximize photothermal conversion and coating performance. The coatings demonstrated exceptional hydrophobicity, with a water contact angle of 167° and a scratch repair efficiency of up to 82 % under NIR irradiation. Even after structural damage, their superhydrophobic properties could be restored by activating the shape memory effect through photothermal heating. The coatings exhibited superior stability against mechanical wear, maintaining hydrophobicity after sandpaper abrasion and tape peeling. They also showed excellent resistance to chemical corrosion, effectively preventing ion penetration and maintaining performance in acidic, alkaline, and saline environments. These findings highlight the potential of NIR-responsive self-healing superhydrophobic coatings to overcome existing durability and stability challenges, extending their applicability in harsh industrial and environmental conditions.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by dental plaque biofilm. To prevent disease progression and achieve successful periodontal tissue repair, it is necessary to simultaneously address the need for antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and osteogenic effects within deep lesions. This study proposes a novel approach using a NIR light-responsive nanocomposite for enhanced ossification and combating bacterial biofilm infections in periodontitis. The nanocomposite incorporates polydopamine-coated calcium carbonate nanoparticles and BMP-2, which exhibits excellent photothermal conversion efficiency for bacterial eradication. Additionally, polydopamine also serves as an efficient ROS scavenger, thereby reducing the inflammatory response associated with periodontal disease. The core CaCO 3 interacts with BMP-2 to promote bone regeneration. This strategy demonstrates a synergistic effect by integrating PTT, ROS therapy, and osteogenic therapy in treating biofilm-induced periodontitis. Moreover, the CaCO 3 @BMP-2/PDA NPs reduced the protein expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β and mitigated LPS-induced inflammation. This combination not only achieved critical protective effects but also fostered the promotion of osteoblast differentiation.

Implant-associated infections present a significant clinical challenge, exacerbated by the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance associated with conventional antibiotic therapies. Photoresponsive antibacterial strategies offer a promising alternative, but their effectiveness in treating deep tissue infections is often limited by the short wavelengths required for activation of most photosensitizers. This study reports the development of a strontium titanate (STO) metastructure coating on titanium alloy implants, engineered for long-wavelength photoresponsive antibacterial activity. We demonstrate that the size of the STO metastructure particles is precisely controlled by modulating the Sr(OH)₂ precursor concentration, enabling tunable optical responses within the 800 nm–1600 nm wavelength range. The resulting coating exhibits excellent antibacterial efficacy upon irradiation with second near-infrared window (NIR-II) light (1064 nm), while demonstrating good biocompatibility and minimal damage to healthy cells after NIR exposure.

Transition metal sulfides have garnered significant interest in the realm of photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors due to their remarkable optical and electrical properties. However, their intrinsic UV–vis adsorption and electron-donor consumption severely hinder their nonirritating and in situ epidermal PEC applications. Herein, a NIR-808 nm light-excited heterojunction, phosphomolybdic acid-encapsulated ytterbium-doped bismuth sulfide (Yb-Bi 2 S 3 /PMA), is synthesized by hydrothermal method for self-sufficient electron donor-based PEC sensing. Further, the Yb-Bi 2 S 3 /PMA heterojunction is decorated on flexible and integrated laser-induced graphene electrode arrays, providing ultrafast charge carrier transfer capacity and robust mechanical durability (300 bending cycles) for subsequent wearable PEC sensing. As a showcase, the aptamer molecular recognition-based wearable PEC sensor for sweat trace Neuropeptide Y (NPY, a stress or depression biomarker) presents an ultra-low detection limit (0.39 fM) and good anti-interference ability. Moreover, the integration of wearable PEC aptasensor with signal processing and wireless communication facilitates nonirritating and in situ analysis of sweat trace NPY dynamics in various real scenarios (feeding behaviors, physiological stress, and circadian rhythm). More broadly, this research establishes the foundation for NIR-excitable semiconductors equipped with self-sufficient electron donor capabilities, unlocking the potential for ultrasensitive wearable PEC sensing applications.

Nanoparticle-based photo-immunotherapy has become an attractive strategy to eliminate tumors and activate host immune responses. However, the therapeutic efficacy is heavily restricted by low tumoral penetration and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Herein, near infrared laser (NIR)-propelled Janus nanomotors were presented for deep tumoral penetration, photothermal tumor ablation and photothermal-triggered augmented immunotherapy. The Janus nanomotors (AuNR/PMO@CPG) were constructed with gold nanorods (AuNR) and periodic mesoporous organo-silica nanospheres (PMO), followed by loading of immune adjuvant (CPG ODNs). Under NIR irradiation, the nanomotors exhibited superior photothermal effect, which produced active motion with a speed of 19.3 µm/s for deep tumor penetration and accumulation in vivo . Moreover, the good photothermal heating also benefited effective photothermal ablation to trigger immunogenic cell death (ICD). Subsequently, the ICD effect promoted the release of tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) and damage associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), and further generated abundant tumor vaccines in situ for reprograming the immunosuppressive TME in combination with CPG ODNs to inhibit tumor growth. As a result, a notable in vivo synergistic therapeutic effect was realized on CT26-bearing mice by combining photothermal therapy-induced ICD with modulation of immunosuppressive TME. Thus, we believe that the synthesized nanomotors can provide a new inspect to boost photothermal therapy-induced ICD in tumor immunotherapy. Nanozyme-catalyzed reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation
has
emerged as a promising strategy for advanced ROS-based therapeutics.
However, achieving efficient ROS production with favorable catalytic
kinetics in a confined microenvironment remains challenging. Herein,
a cancer-targeting heterogeneous Janus nanozyme (JN, Cu 2– x Se–Au-TLS11a) was rationally fabricated via
a facile modular synthesis and assembly. Upon near-infrared II (NIR-II)
light irradiation, the well-designed JN realized multimodal synergistic
anticancer effects via three coordinated mechanisms: (i) efficient
photothermal conversion with a high efficiency of 61.9% for photothermal
therapy (PTT); (ii) NIR-II-triggered hot-electron transfer from the
Au domain to Cu 2– x Se promoted the
generation of Cu + , which accelerated Fenton-like reactions
to produce hydroxyl radicals (•OH); and (iii) NIR-II photoexcitation
induced the formation of electron–hole (e – -h + ) pairs on the Janus nanostructure, enabling additional
photocatalytic •OH generation. Under NIR-II light activation,
the JNs, integrating photothermal, photoenhanced chemodynamic, and
photocatalytic effects, demonstrated highly specific and potent in
vitro anticancer efficacy, achieving an IC 50 value of approximately
12.5 μg mL –1 against HepG2 cells and reducing
cell viability to 13.8%, thereby providing an innovative paradigm
for designing spatiotemporally controlled, ROS-amplifying nanoplatforms
toward precision cancer therapy.

Occlusive thrombi within blood vessels are a primary cause of life-threatening cardiovascular diseases, which continue to pose significant global health challenges. Here, we report a polymer nanoplatform that integrates near-infrared II (NIR-II) light-triggered photothermal thrombolysis with intrinsic antithrombotic functionality. A novel semiconducting polymer, featuring intense NIR-II absorption and exceptionally high photothermal conversion, is rationally engineered to enable rapid and localized light-to-heat thrombolysis. A thermosensitive hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) donor is also incorporated, generating multifunctional “nanosweepers” that combine synergistic photothermal and gas-mediated thrombolytic activity. The formulation is further functionalized with bis-serotonin groups, which confer myeloperoxidase- and hydrogen peroxide-responsive thrombus-targeting capability, ensuring selective accumulation and site-specific therapy. This agent possesses robust NIR-II absorption, high photothermal conversion efficiency (77.2%), and pronounced thrombus-specific enrichment. Importantly, the combination of localized photothermal heating and on-demand H 2 S release enable rapid, near-complete thrombolysis in both carotid and lower-limb arterial thrombosis models, achieving almost full restoration of blood flow. This work establishes a versatile and highly efficient strategy that integrates precise NIR-II photothermal conversion with H 2 S-mediated redox regulation, providing a promising platform for site-specific multimodal synergistic treatment of life-threatening thrombotic disorders. The findings offer new insights into the design of multifunctional, precision therapeutics for vascular disease management.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with incompletely understood pathophysiology, necessitating advanced tools for long-term dynamic biomarker monitoring. Current techniques lack noninvasive platforms capable of real-time multiparametric monitoring with high stability, sensitivity, and responsiveness. Here, we engineered core-shell-shell lanthanide-doped upconversion nanoparticles (cssUCNPs) through controlled Tm 3+ /Er 3+ gradient doping and crystal field symmetry modulation. This “sandwich” heterostructure design suppressed cross-relaxation, while Ca 2+ doping enhanced radiative transition efficiency. These modifications yielded a quantum yield improvement from 0.35 ± 0.014% to 3.27 ± 0.067%, representing a 9.3-fold enhancement, alongside a fluorescence intensity increase of 425.5-fold. The cssUCNPs exhibited exceptional photostability (>10,000 excitation cycles) and biocompatibility (>95% cell viability). Upon integration of Fluo4 with UCNPs, the system harnessed the luminescence resonance energy transfer effect to enable dual-responsive sensing of Ca 2+ (detection limit: 1 μM) and temperature (sensitivity: 0.5 K −1 ), thereby facilitating long-term tracing of Ca 2+ and temperature dynamics across PD pathological stages. Our results revealed that early-phase PD is characterized by rapid Ca 2+ and temperature surges, followed by oscillatory fluctuations in the middle phase, and eventual stabilization at elevated levels in the terminal phase. These dynamic profiles establish a direct link between mitochondrial dysfunction and Ca 2+ dysregulation, highlighting Ca 2+ flow-sensitive and thermally sensitive therapeutic targets for PD intervention.
