Background: Traditional obesity interventions are often unsuitable for children. Breastfeeding has been shown to reduce obesity risk, potentially through bioactive metabolites in human milk. Here, we identified a human milk-derived metabolite, uridine 5′-monophosphate (5′-UMP), whose role in lipid metabolism and thermogenesis remains largely unknown. Methods: Untargeted metabolomics was performed on colostrum samples from obese and healthy mothers to identify obesity-associated metabolites. Zebrafish larvae and human preadipocytes were used to evaluate the anti-obesity effects of 5′-UMP. Lipid accumulation was assessed by Oil Red O and Nile Red staining, while mitochondrial function was analyzed using transgenic zebrafish [Tg(Xla. Eef1a1: mlsEGFP)] and fluorescent imaging. Results: Pyrimidine metabolism was significantly enriched in obese mothers, with orotate and 5′-UMP levels altered. Targeted analysis confirmed the presence of 5′-UMP in colostrum. Zebrafish toxicity assays confirmed 5′-UMP safety up to 200 μM. In the high-fat diet-induced zebrafish obesity model, 5′-UMP treatment significantly reduced abdominal lipid accumulation. In adipocytes, 5′-UMP enhanced mitochondrial respiration and increased mRNA and protein expression of PGC1-α and UCP1. Furthermore, mitochondrial fluorescence intensity and protein levels of NRF1 and MFN2 were elevated, indicating enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis and activity. Conclusion: Maternal obesity is associated with changes in the human milk metabolome. 5′-UMP, a nucleotide metabolite enriched in human milk, promotes thermogenesis and mitochondrial activation, effectively ameliorating obesity in zebrafish and human adipocytes. These findings support its potential as a safe, milk-derived therapeutic candidate for pediatric obesity intervention.

Introduction: Melatonin and 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), known for benefits in regulating sleep and combating depression, respectively, are incorporated into dietary supplements. Rapid and accurate identification of dietary supplement types and their contents remains a significant challenge in ensuring food safety. Methods: In this study, qualitative and quantitative analysis of melatonin and 5-HTP was performed using Raman spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). Purity and crystal structures of the samples were investigated using Raman spectroscopy and PXRD, establishing the foundation for terahertz (THz) simulations. Results and discussion: The Raman spectroscopy results demonstrate that the characteristic Raman peaks of melatonin and 5-HTP in the range from 170 cm−1 to 1700 cm−1 were observed at 1356 cm−1 and 1,304 cm−1, respectively. Results of THz revealed that melatonin and 5-HTP each have five THz characteristic peaks, which distinguish these substances. The peak of melatonin at 1.23 THz shows a good linear fit with the mass fraction, while 5-HTP has a similar relationship at 1.14 THz. Then, L-tryptophan, a common contaminant in the production of melatonin and 5-HTP, was successfully identified within the mixture. Finally, it is demonstrated that THz technology can effectively detect melatonin and 5-HTP in commercial dietary supplements. This study establishes a rapid, efficient, and non-destructive approach for the regulation and quantitative analysis of dietary supplements.

2,5-Furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), a crucial precursor for synthesizing biodegradable polymers as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-derived plastics, has garnered significant interest for its production via electrolysis. However, this approach remains hindered by the inherent weak reactant-catalyst adsorption and sluggish interfacial kinetics. Herein, we report Cu-incorporated NiFe Prussian blue analogues (PBA) that enable rapid electrooxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to FDCA with nearly 100 % conversion, selectivity, and Faradaic efficiency, even at an industrial-scale concentration of 100 mM. In situ Raman and electrochemical characterizations reveal that Cu-incorporation elongates Ni-N bonds and accelerates their reconstruction into defect-rich Ni 2+ -OH species, which undergo deprotonation to form highly active Ni 3+ -O species. X-ray technology and theoretical calculations show that the electronegative Cu 2+ prompts a shift of the d-band center of neighboring Ni atoms toward the Fermi level, thereby enhancing the adsorption of both hydroxyl (-OH) and aldehyde (-CHO) groups in HMF and thus accelerating electrooxidation of HMF to FDCA. Practical applicability using a continuous flow electrolyzer demonstrates the potential for industrial application, achieving a kilogram-scale FDCA production with 99 % purity and a yield exceeding 90 % over 1200 h. This work realizes the valence regulation of active sites in PBA through a cation engineering approach and verifies its feasibility in sustainable biomass electro-oxidation upgrading.

Nanoscale ZSM-5 zeolites (NZSM-5) having different crystal sizes and Si/tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) molar ratios were synthesized using a hydrothermal method. These materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and N 2 adsorption–desorption. The results showed that each zeolite was highly crystalline regardless of the Si/TPAOH ratio and that the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface areas were in the range of 329−392 m 2 /g. The random aggregation of these nanoparticles resulted in the formation of numerous intergranular mesopores. These NZSM-5 zeolites were applied to the catalytic cracking of oleic acid to prepare light olefins and light aromatics using a laboratory-scale fixed bed reactor. The zeolite having a Si/TPAOH ratio of 10/5 showed the best catalytic activity and provided light olefins yield of 55% and selectivity of BTX in liquid phase products of 18%, respectively, at 500 °C. The small crystal size and abundant intergranular mesopores in this specimen resulted in shorter diffusion paths and an increase in the external specific surface area that both inhibited coke deposition and ensured accessible acid sites. Introduction Carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria (CR-GNB) pose a significant threat to public health and require immediate attention. The development of novel antibacterial agents against CR-GNB has become an urgent priority, and nanomaterials offer promising solutions due to their unique properties. This study introduces 5-amino-2-mercaptobenzimidazole (5-A-2MBI) functionalized gold nanoparticles (5-A-2MBI_Au NPs) and evaluates their antibacterial activity against CR-GNB.Methods The 5-A-2MBI_Au NPs was synthesized using a one-pot method. Its biocompatibility, bactericidal properties, and mechanisms of action were systematically characterized through in vivo and in vitro toxicity tests, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, live/dead staining, membrane permeability and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation assays, as well as transcriptomic analysis. Results The results of this study demonstrate that 5-A-2MBI_Au NPs exhibit excellent antibacterial efficacy against carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria with various resistance mechanisms, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 2 μg/mL. In vivo experiments further confirmed that 5-A-2MBI_Au NPs not only possess effective bactericidal activity but also exhibit satisfactory biocompatibility. Mechanistic studies revealed that 5-A-2MBI_Au NPs enhance bacterial membrane permeability, increase the generation of reactive oxygen species, and disrupt intracellular oxidative stress and succinate synthesis, thereby conferring potent antibacterial activity. This study results demonstrate that 5-A-2MBI_Au NPs exhibit notable antibacterial efficacy against CR-GNB, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 2 μg/mL. The antibacterial mechanism involves enhanced membrane permeability, increased reactive oxygen species production, and interference with intracellular oxidative stress and succinate synthesis. These mechanisms collectively contribute to the potent antibacterial activity of 5-A-2MBI_Au NPs against CR-GNB.Discussion 5-A-2MBI_Au NPs are a novel and highly effective antibacterial agent prepared through a simple process using benzimidazole and HAuCl4•3H2O. They efficiently eradicate the most challenging multidrug-resistant GNB both in vitro and in vivo while demonstrating excellent biocompatibility. This highlights their potential as a promising antibacterial agent to combat multidrug-resistant GNB.

Abstract The present study focuses on the improvement of desulfurization rate in the oxidative desulfurization using hierarchical CoAPO-5 molecular sieve as a catalyst by response surface method. Firstly, the catalytic properties of microporous and hierarchical CoAPO-5 were compared, and hierarchical CoAPO-5 with better catalytic performance was selected for further investigation. Then, the reaction conditions were further optimized by response surface method. In the response surface method, five factors including reaction temperature, reaction time, catalyst dosage, extractant dosage and oxidant dosage affecting desulfurization rate were screened and the conditions for oxidative desulfurization were optimizing by applying Box–Behnken design. The fitting second-order polynomial equation, which was based on experimental results, was employed to predict desulfurization rate and verified by model diagnostic plots. According to the T and P values in the analysis of variance, it is found that the fitting model is significant, and the interaction between reaction temperature, reaction time, and extractant dosage is significant. The optimal conditions for oxidative desulfurization were found through three-dimensional surface and two-contour graph. In this case, the desulfurization rate reached 79.8%.

All-inorganic perovskite nanocrystals (CsPbX 3 NCs, X = Cl, Br, I) have emerged as promising candidates for applications in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), solar cells, photodetectors, and backlight displays, owing to their exceptional optoelectronic properties, including high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), long carrier lifetimes, and narrow emission bandwidths. However, the intrinsic ionic nature of these nanocrystals renders them highly susceptible to environmental degradation, limiting their practical applications. Herein, we report the synthesis of CsPbBr 3 @MOF-5 composites through a physical mixing method: room-temperature supersaturated recrystallization of CsPbBr 3 NCs, followed by encapsulation within a hierarchical porous zinc-based metal-organic framework (MOF-5). By incorporating poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(propyleneoxide)-block-poly(ethylene oxide) Pluronic (P123) and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (TMB) as structure-directing agents, the pore architecture of MOF-5 was tailored to exhibit hierarchical porosity (2-35 nm), significantly enhancing both the PLQY and stability of CsPbBr 3 NCs. The CsPbBr 3 @MOF-5 composites achieved a remarkable PLQY improvement from 22% to 56%, retained 55% of their initial PL intensity after 60 days of ambient storage, and maintained 65% of PL emission under thermal stress (298-498 K). In contrast, pristine CsPbBr 3 NCs experienced complete quenching under identical conditions. Additionally, the composite exhibited superior resistance to anion exchange when combined with CsPbBr x I 3-x NCs. A white LED (WLED) device fabricated using CsPbBr 3 @MOF-5 composite and K 2 SiF 6 :Mn 2+ (KSF) red phosphor exhibited a luminous efficiency of 20.71 lm/W, a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5486 K, and a broad color gamut covering 133.3% of the National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) standard, underscoring its potential for advanced lighting and display technologies.

The non-radiative recombination loss at the interface is a huge obstacle to improving the photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), especially carbon-based PSCs (C-PSCs). Here, we propose a strategy for synergistic regulation of interface defects and carrier transport through functional groups of long-chain ammonium salt molecules to form 2D perovskite passivation layers by surface treatment with 5-aminovalerate hydroiodide (5-AVAI). The results indicate that the carboxyl group (–COOH) in 5-AVAI molecules can form coordination bonds with uncoordinated Pb 2+ ions, thereby anchoring to the surface of the perovskite film. Simultaneously, the electrostatic interaction between the amino group (–NH 3 + ) and I − ions in 5-AVAI inhibits the formation of iodide vacancies, enhances defect passivation, and improves the transport and transfer efficiency of interfacial carriers. The atmospherically generated 5-AVAI-modified C-PSCs exhibited an efficiency of 16.50% and retained 85% of their initial efficiency for 80 days in atmospheric environment.

Digestate (DE), the residue following anaerobic digestion , has been well utilized as a potential feedstock of molten carbonates pyrolysis and catalytic reforming . The lignin of DE was converted into phenolics, guaiacols and furfural with molten carbonates pyrolysis, and further upgraded to bio-based monophenols by coupling with modified HZSM-5 catalyst. The maximum monophenols yield could achieve 7.22 g/100 g of digestate, and 81.34% of the organic phase of bio-oil at the optimum reaction conditions. The alkali-treated and Fe-loaded on HZSM-5 catalyst, with enhanced pore diameter distinctly and mild acidity, has an outstanding selectivity for monophenols and preferable anti-coking ability in integrated pyrolysis system, while with quite a low catalyst coke yield of 3.97%. The results indicated that the formation of mesopores might minimize the diffusion hindrance of the reactant molecules and reduce coke accumulation. In addition, according to the experiment conducted on a self-designed thermogravimetric analysis device, the kinetic study of the digestate with molten carbonates certificated that the reaction rate of pyrolysis had been promoted by both decreasing activation energy and intensification of heat transfer.

The green synthesis of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from carbohydrates is a significant step for the production of sustainable fuels and fine chemicals, where the solvent plays an important role in terms of conversion efficiency and process sustainability. This work reports the bifunctional use of ternary deep eutectic solvents (TDESs), as both the solvent and catalyst, in the dehydration of fructose to HMF. A series of phenolic acids are used as hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) in TDESs. The combination of choline chloride–1,4-butylene glycol– p -hydroxybenzene propanoic acid (ChCl–BDO–PH) catalysed the quantitative conversion of fructose to obtain the highest HMF yield of 90.2%. Nuclear magnetic resonance and 3D-fluorescence spectroscopy analysis indicated that there were no humins polymers accumulation and it possibly formed the soluble micro-molecules humins byproducts. Moreover, HMF could be readily separated from TDESs, which allowed the stable recycling of TDESs for five recycles. Density functional theory calculations implied that a lower energy of hydrogen bond between TDESs and fructose promoted the fructose conversion and HMF formation, which is due to the methoxy group and side chain structure of phenolic acid that may reduce the ionization activity of hydrogen ions in the carboxyl group, thus reducing the hydrogen bond between TDESs and fructose. This work provides a novel alternative to traditional Brønsted acid towards the greener production of HMF.

Series of 10% MnO x /HZSM-5 catalysts with different zeolitic Si/Al ratios were prepared by an incipient impregnation method and evaluated for the catalytic oxidation of toluene. Characterization results indicated that all catalysts exhibited similar textural and redox properties but variable surface acidity. Catalytic testing results showed that the catalytic activities over these catalysts followed a descending order of 10% MnO x /HZSM-5-25 > 10% MnO x /HZSM-5-50 > 10% MnO x /HZSM-5-75, where 10% MnO x /HZSM-5-25 exhibited the optimum catalytic activity and excellent catalytic durability under dry condition and good water-resistant ability under humid condition. A good linear relationship between the toluene conversion efficiency (TOF Mn ) and the total acidity over MnO x /HZSM-5 catalysts was obtained, which revealed the crucial role and promotional effect of zeolitic acidity acting as a promoter on the catalytic activity for toluene oxidation.

This study aims to compare the catalytic performance of ZSM-5 and SAPO-34 zeolite catalysts in the conversion of ethanol. Through experiments conducted at different temperatures (773 K and 673 K), it was found that SAPO-34 initially exhibits superior propylene selectivity compared to ZSM-5. However, the propylene yield on SAPO-34 gradually decreases, while the ethylene yield increases with time on stream. density functional theory calculations were employed for the investigation of reaction mechanism. The results indicate that the SAPO-34 catalyst surface favors propylene desorption, which beneficial for its initial high propylene selectivity. Nevertheless, the smaller pore structure of SAPO-34 limits the effective diffusion of products, leading to product accumulation within the pores and potentially causing catalyst coking and deactivation. By combining the experimental results with theoretical calculation, this study not only explored the selectivity difference between SAPO-34 and H-ZSM-5 in ethanol conversion reaction, but also revealed the influence of different molecular sieve catalyst structures on product distribution and catalyst stability.
