A high bio-based content (86.3 wt%) waterborne polyurethane was designed using renewable PLA, HCO, and PDI. • Oxime groups and UPy quadruple hydrogen bonds synergistically enhance mechanical properties and self-healing capability. • h-BN doping increases thermal conductivity by 112% and enables photothermal healing. To address the inherent conflict between the environmental sustainability and material durability of bio-based waterborne polyurethane (BWPU), this research proposes a synergistic strategy that integrates bio-based materials, functional nanofillers, and dual dynamic bonding networks. These networks consist of quadruple hydrogen-bonding arrays from 2-amino-6-methylpyrimidin-4(3H)-one (UPy) units and dynamic covalent oxime bonds. Firstly, a series of oxime-containing BWPUs was synthesized from bio-based polylactic acid polyol (PLA), hydrogenated castor oil (HCO), and 1,5-pentamethylene diisocyanate (PDI), with dimethylglyoxime (DMG) or 1,4-benzoquinone dioxime (BQDO) as chain extenders instead of conventional small-molecule diols, i.e., 1,4-Butanediol (BDO). Subsequently, a dual dynamic crosslinked network was established via end-capping modification with UPy. Finally, the hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) was incorporated to enhance thermal conductivity of composite material. The experimental results showed that, compared with the single oxime-based system, the dual dynamic network constructed based on the oxime-urethane and UPy quadruple hydrogen bonds (BWPU-Q-U10) significantly enhances the comprehensive mechanical properties. The toughness of the BWPU-Q-U10 film increases from 1660.3 MJ/m 3 to 2907.4 MJ/m 3 . Furthermore, this material achieves a self-healing efficiency of 97.2% within 24 h at room temperature (25 °C), demonstrating an optimal synergy between mechanical properties and self-healing efficiency. On this basis, the introduction of 10 wt% h-BN, identified as the optimal loading, increases the thermal conductivity of the composite by 112%. Meanwhile, leveraging the photothermal effect of BQDO, this composite achieves a healing efficiency of 86.3% within 5 min under 365 nm UV irradiation. This research presents a durable, bio-based waterborne polyurethane for smart coatings that achieves rapid self-healing while maintaining environmental sustainability. In this work, bionic structure design was introduced to optimize the mechanical properties of ceramics using Si 3 N 4 fibers and BN interfaces. It was shown that Si 3 N 4 f /BN i fibrous monolithic ceramic possessed outstanding fracture toughness with the K IC value of 13.06 MPa·m 1/2 while retaining the flexural strength of 603.59 MPa. This indicated that the BN interfaces extended the crack propagation path and improved the fracture toughness of ceramics. Meanwhile, the densification of ceramics was efficiently promoted by the constant application of pressure starting from room temperature during the sintering process, with a density of up to 3.18 g/cm 3 . An innovative fiber inclusion model was first established to calculate the residual stress, and predict the flexural strength considering residual stress. This work offers new prospects for the synchronous realization of high strength and toughness in Si 3 N 4 ceramics and for predicting the strength of fibrous monolithic ceramics. Graphical abstract

Phosphorus and fluorine are essential elements of living organisms. However, excessive phosphate and fluoride can severely harm the balance of aquatic ecosystems and public health. Therefore, it is particularly important to develop an adsorbent that combines good adsorption capacity, simple synthesis and easy separation for wastewater treatment. Based on this, we pioneered a novel porous boron nitride material-based composite (p-BN) through PEI grafting and rare earth (La/Ce) modification (2PEI/ASBN-Ln (Ln = La, Ce)). The point of zero charge (pH pzc ) of 2PEI/ASBN-La reached 10.0, significantly improving the carrier's surface negativity and overcoming the electrostatic repulsion issue in anion adsorption. Additionally, the N content of the modified adsorbents exceeded 50%, and the amino group content increased, further enhancing the density of adsorption sites. The adsorption capacities of fluoride and phosphate for the optimal sample 2PEI/ASBN-La reached 112.165 mg g −1 and 79.547 mg g −1 , respectively, while also exhibiting effective removal of other pollutants in water, significantly broadening its applicability. The adsorption mechanism study revealed that the removal process involves multiple pathways, including physisorption, ion exchange and complexation. Specifically, phosphate removal was dominated by strong complexation through ligand exchange, whereas fluoride adsorption relied more on ion exchange and strong electrostatic attraction at amino and rare earth metal sites. More importantly, we further introduced magnetic nanoparticles into the adsorbent (2PEI/ASBN-La (Fe 3 O 4 )). VSM tests showed that its saturation magnetization reached 19.116 emu g −1 , enabling rapid magnetic separation under an external magnetic field. Collectively, this study provides innovative perspectives for the water treatment and recycling sector.

With the rapid development of microelectronic information technology, high-power electronic devices require high heat dissipation. Herein, the preparation of low-temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) applications with excellent thermal conductivity and dielectric properties is focused. B 2 O 3 –Bi 2 O 3 –SiO 2 –ZnO (BBSZ) glass/Al 2 O 3 /BN green sheets are prepared by tape casting and sintered at 850 °C. The crystal phase composition, microstructure, thermal conductivity, thermal expansion coefficient, and dielectric properties of LTCC are investigated. It is shown that nanoscale rod crystals ZnAl 2 O 4 and Bi are formed in the composite. The generated nanoscale rod crystals build a 3D heat conduction channel in the composite. The thermal conductivity of the sintered sheet with 20 wt% BN is 5.165 W m −1 K −1 . The sintered sheet containing 20 wt% BN has a low coefficient of thermal expansion (2.92 ppm °C −1 ) matched well with silicon and excellent dielectric properties ( ε r = 3.9672, tan δ = 1.49 × 10 −3 ) at 20 GHz. This material has great potential applications in electronic devices.

The Pt catalysts supported on hexagonal BN (Pt/BN) are highly active and stable for propane combustion, with the highest specific reaction rate of 92.3 μmol gPt–1 s–1 and turnover frequency of 0.037 s–1 obtained on a 0.2Pt/BN catalyst at 220 °C. The Pt oxide in the catalyst could be partially reduced to the metallic state by propane during the reaction, which is beneficial for the improvement of activity, indicating that metallic Pt might be the active sites. The highly dispersed Pt particles stabilized at the grain boundary of BN could be more easily reduced in the reaction than those on the surface and thus are more active. Moreover, kinetic investigation reveals that the apparent activation energy of the Pt species at the grain boundary (111.6 ± 8.0 kJ mol–1) is much lower than that on the surface (172.4 ± 16.5 kJ mol–1), suggesting different reaction pathways on these catalysts and the possible participation of the grain boundary of the BN support in the reaction.

Multidimensional thermal fillers significantly enhance composite thermal conductivity. • The magnetic responsiveness of Fe 3 O 4 -loaded BN pre-modified with KH-560 and PSS was compared. • Magnetically modified fillers achieve oriented alignment under an external magnetic field. • The thermal conductivity of EP/mBN10C5 was 0.574 W/(m·K), representing a 134% increase over pure EP. • These epoxy-based composites demonstrate significant potential for electronic thermal management applications. To address the inherently low thermal conductivity of polymer composites in electronic thermal management, this study proposes a strategy for constructing thermal conduction networks through magnetic field-induced alignment of multi-dimensional fillers. During magnetic modification, the pre-modification effects of poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) and silane coupling agent KH-560 on the filler surface were first compared. Experimental results indicated that the fillers pre-modified with PSS exhibited a coercivity of 59 Oe and a relative Fe content of 5.59% after magnetic modification, demonstrating superior magnetic responsiveness. After introducing Fe 3 O 4 onto the filler surface, a continuous thermal conduction pathway was constructed by combining external magnetic field alignment with hybrid filling of multidimensional fillers. Herein, two-dimensional magnetic boron nitride (mBN) constituted the thermal skeleton, with one-dimensional magnetic carbon nanotubes (mCNTs) bridging the gaps to create a continuous thermal network. When 5 wt% of mCNTs was introduced into the composite containing 10 wt% mBN, the thermal conductivity increased by 134% relative to EP, reaching 0.574 W/(m·K). Furthermore, thermogravimetric analysis results demonstrated that the incorporation of mCNTs effectively reduced the maximum mass loss rate of the composites. This work demonstrates the potential of magnetically aligned multi-dimensional fillers to optimize thermal networks, establishing a foundation for low-filler, high-thermal-conductivity composites in thermal management. To address the poor mechanical properties of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) ceramics while maintaining their high directional thermal conduction performance, this study proposes a laminated structure design using h-BN as the soft, thermally anisotropic matrix layer and ZrB 2 -SiC as the hard reinforcing layer. h-BN/ZrB 2 -SiC laminated composite ceramics with different layer thickness ratios were fabricated via tape casting and hot-pressing. The h-BN grains maintain strong preferred orientation with their c-axes aligned parallel to the sintering pressure, even after introducing ZrB 2 -SiC layers. At an optimal layer thickness ratio of 1:1, the laminated ceramic achieves the best mechanical performance, with a flexural strength of 169.09 ± 18.67 MPa and a fracture toughness of 8.32 ± 0.97 MPa·m 1/2 , representing increases of 74% and 169%, respectively, compared with tape casted monolithic h-BN ceramics. These enhancements arise from synergistic toughening mechanisms including crack deflection, branching and delamination. Moreover, the laminated structure preserves strong anisotropic thermal conduction. At a layer thickness ratio of 2:1, the composite exhibits the highest thermal conduction anisotropy, with a temperature difference of ∼5 °C between in-plane and through-plane directions at 150 °C. These results demonstrate that the h-BN/ZrB 2 -SiC laminated architecture effectively combines high directional heat transfer with significantly improved mechanical properties, offering a promising solution for advanced thermal management in microelectronics and high-power devices.

The synergistic effect of different types of solid particles in liquid lubricants is of great interest. In this work, g-C3N4nanosheets were initially prepared using a calcination method and then as-prepared, and h-BN were used as lubricating additives to the white oil. A comparison between the mixed additives and the single g-C3N4or h-BN additives revealed that the base oil with the addition of g-C3N4and h-BN showed the best lubricating properties. The results show a 12.3% reduction in friction coefficient, resulting in a 68.6% reduction in wear rate compared to the white oil when filled with 0.5 wt% g-C3N4and h-BN (1:1 by weight). Moreover, the addition of g-C3N4and h-BN improves the high-temperature lubrication properties of the white oil. However, the friction coefficient and wear rate increase with increasing oil temperature. The large contact area between g-C3N4and its sliding counterpart and the strong adhesive force between h-BN and its sliding counterpart improve the film formation efficiency, leading to enhanced tribological properties under oil lubrication conditions.

In this work, a hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN)/AuAg nanoalloy hybrids (NAHs) was synthesized to fabricate h-BN/Au 1 Ag 3 membrane as a solid surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate for sensitive SERS detection of melamine. The AuAg nanoalloys were in situ grown on h-BN by chemical reduction method, and the Au/Ag molar ratio was tuned to achieve optimal SERS performance. After the SERS performance of h-BN/AuAg NAHs with different Au/Ag ratios was analyzed, h-BN/Au 1 Ag 3 NAHs were chosen for SERS analysis. The h-BN/Au 1 Ag 3 membrane can be obtained through simple filtration of h-BN/Au 1 Ag 3 NAHs on chromatographic paper. As expected, the solid SERS substrates of h-BN/Au 1 Ag 3 membrane were uniform and demonstrated good selectivity, repeatability and reproducibility for SERS detection of melamine. The results demonstrate that h-BN/Au 1 Ag 3 membrane exhibited high SERS activity for 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA) with limit of detection (LOD) at 1.0 ng L −1 , and its analytical enhancement factor (AEF) reached 3.6 × 10 8 . The possible enhancement mechanism, including electromagnetic mechanisms (EM) and chemical mechanisms (CM) were illustrated by finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) and density functional theory (DFT) simulations in detail, respectively. The concentration of melamine in the 0.05–5.0 mg L −1 range showed good linear relationship ( R 2 = 0.9940) with SERS intensity with LOD of 0.01 mg L −1 . Finally, the recoveries of melamine in liquid milk samples are 87.7–105.7% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) in range of 0.6–2.6%, providing precise safety evaluation of melamine in milk samples.

Thermally conductive and electrically insulating materials have attracted much attention due to their applications in the field of microelectronics, but through-plane thermal conductivity of materials is still low at present. In this paper, a simple and environmentally friendly strategy is proposed to improve the through-plane thermal conductivity of epoxy composites using a 3D boron nitride (3D-BN) framework. In addition, the effect of filler sizes in 3D-BN skeletons on thermal conductivity was investigated. The epoxy composite with larger BN in lateral size showed a higher through-plane thermal conductivity of 2.01 W/m·K and maintained a low dielectric constant of 3.7 and a dielectric loss of 0.006 at 50 Hz, making it desirable for the application in microelectronic devices.Keywords:3D boron nitride skeleton;size effect;epoxy composites;through-plane thermal conductivity

The increasing demand for effective thermal management in electronic devices has highlighted the crucial importance of researching composite materials with exceptional thermal conductivity in the field of electronics. A novel hybrid filler consisting of hexagonal boron nitride (BN) and needle-like zinc oxide nanowires (ZnO NWs) was designed and synthesized in this work, then used to prepare thermally conductive composites by mixing it with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) using the ice template method and hot-pressing process. The results demonstrated that a filler loading of 20 wt% yielded the highest thermal conductivity for the composite, reaching an impressive in-plane thermal conductivity of 1.77 Wm −1 k −1 , which was 3.4 times higher than that of the conventional frozen pure PVA. This substantial improvement in thermal conductivity is mainly attributed to the synergistic effect achieved through the ice template method to construct a conventional orientation structure combined with the presence of BN-ZnO NWs hybrid filler. In addition, this composite also has good mechanical properties and thermal stability, etc. Our study shows that the BN-ZnO NWs/PVA thermally conductive composite demonstrates excellent potential as a thermal interface material for various applications in the field of thermal management of electronic devices.

Propane dehydrogenation (PDH) provides an alternative route for producing propylene. Herein, we demonstrates that h-BN is a promising support of Pt-based catalysts for PDH. The Pt catalysts supported on h-BN were prepared by an impregnation method using Pt(NH 3 ) 4 (NO 3 ) 2 as metal precursors. It has been found that the Pt/BN catalyst undergoing calcination and reduction is highly stable in both PDH reaction and coke-burning regeneration, together with low coke deposition and outstanding propylene selectivity (99%). Detailed characterizations reveal that the high coke resistance and high propylene selectivity of the Pt/BN catalyst are derived not only from the absence of acidity on BN support, but also from the calcination-induced and reduction-adjusted strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) between Pt and BN, which causes the partial encapsulation of Pt particles by BO x overlayers. The BO x overlayers can block the low-coordinated Pt sites and constrain Pt particles into smaller ensembles, suppressing side reactions such as cracking and deep dehydrogenation. Moreover, the BO x overlayers can effectively inhibit Pt sintering by the spatial isolation of Pt during periodic reaction-regeneration cycles. In this work, the catalyst support for PDH is expanded to nonoxide BN, and the understanding of SMSI between Pt and BN will provide rational design strategy for BN-based catalysts.
