Multicolor emission has long been a critical scientific challenge in the field of persistent luminescence (PersL) materials, with the achievement of multicolor PersL emission within a single host matrix representing a primary research objective. Herein, a new and effective method of using coordination polymers (CPs) as precursors is designed to synthesize multicolored CdSiO 3 :RE 3+ (RE = Pr, Sm, Eu, Tb, Tm) PersL materials. Through variation of rare earth dopants, we successfully achieved color-tunable PersL emission spanning brown, pink, purple, red, green, and blue spectra. The influence of RE 3+ dopants on the crystal structure, morphology and optical properties are studied in detail. Notably, this straightforward synthesis strategy enabled the effective production of nanospherical particles exhibiting regular morphology and uniform size distribution. The electronic band structure of the material was theoretically analyzed using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Combined with thermoluminescence (TL) measurements were performed to elucidate the underlying PersL mechanism. To demonstrate practical applications, we designed a dynamic anti-counterfeiting pattern and evaluated the potential utility of CdSiO 3 :RE 3+ materials. This study not only enhances our fundamental understanding of CdSiO 3 -based PersL materials, but also provides novel insights into morphology and size control strategies that could be extended to other PersL material systems.

It is of urgent significance to develop highly stable and efficient CrO 4 2− detection technology in the fields of drinking water distribution and sewage treatment. A highly stable europium metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF) was designed as fluorescent probe for the efficient detection of trace CrO 4 2− in water solutions. This was achieved through the self-assembly of the lanthanide Eu 3+ and a rigid conjugated organic ligand [2,2’- biquinoline]-4,4’-dicarboxylic acid (H 2 L) under hydrothermal conditions. The obtained Eu-MOF exhibits excellent water stability, thermal stability and photostability. The Eu-MOF can quantitatively detect trace amounts of CrO 4 2− through fluorescence quenching effect. Its detection sensitivity is 4.48 × 10 4 M − 1 , with a detection limit as low as 0.06 µM (9.7 µg/L). This is one of the lowest values for the detection limit of CrO 4 2− in aqueous solution and is far below the allowable level for drinking water specified by World Health Organization. The Eu-MOF sensor also demonstrates excellent selectivity, anti-interference ability, repeatability (after 4 cycles), reproducibility and practical feasibility. Furthermore, the fluorescent luminescence and senseing mechanism were studied in detail. The fluorescence senseing mechanism of the Eu-MOF for CrO 4 2− detection involves the competitive absorption of excitation energy. The fluorescence-based sensing technology using the Eu-MOF provides a reference for environmental pollution detection and holds potential practical value.

In this work, a novel dual-channel sensing mode, i.e., UV-induced surface photovoltage (SPV) and photoluminescence (PL) on n-type Si/TiO2/Eu3+-doped TiO2 (n-Si/TiO2/TiO2:Eu), was demonstrated for the discrimination of 20 volatile compounds. The SPV signaling in this work employed a laboratory-constructed microvoltammeter with good analytical performances. This device also features wireless communication, portability, along with low cost and power consumption. The SPV and PL pattern of each analyte was distinct, and the hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) result showed that these 20 volatile species were distinguishable, even for structural isomers. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) further demonstrated the robustness of this sensor: 180 unknown samples from three groups at concentrations of 15.3, 31.7, and 79.2 mg/L were classified with accuracies of 96.7%, 95.0%, and 100%, respectively. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that SPV and PL channels contributed equally to the good discrimination ability due to two distinct sensing mechanisms. This dual-channel sensor was also successfully applied in the discrimination of beverage samples such as liquor, wine, and vinegar.

A fluorescent switch nanoprobe based on boric acid-functionalized europium-based metal–organic framework (BA-Eu-MOF) integrated with a visual analysis platform assisted by smartphone was established for the sensitive detection of Hg 2+ and glutathione (GSH). The probe was fabricated with 5-boronoisophthalic acid as ligand and europium ions as metal node, which enables specific recognition of Hg 2+ through a transmetalation mechanism. Upon the introduction of Hg 2+ , the red fluorescence of the probe was quenched (“off” state). When GSH is added, because its thiol groups have a stronger binding affinity for Hg 2+ , it competitively extracts Hg 2+ from the BA-Eu-MOF/Hg 2+ complex, leading to fluorescence recovery (“on” state). Based on this “on-off-on” mode, the quantitative detection of Hg 2+ and GSH was achieved with detection limits of 0.67 nM and 0.087 µM. Furthermore, the intelligent sensing platform for quantitative detection of analytes was developed by utilizing a smartphone Color Grab App with detection limits of 9.57 µM and 2.32 µM, respectively. Both modes were successfully employed to the detection of Hg 2+ and GSH in actual samples with spiked recoveries ranging from 88.9% to 108.0%. Benefiting from the porous characteristics of MOF and the specific recognition capability of the boric acid group, the proposed probe exhibits notable advantages including facile preparation, operational simplicity, high sensitivity, and excellent selectivity. This study provides a facile, reliable and field-applicable novel detection strategy for environmental monitoring and the investigation of interactions between heavy metals and biomolecules. Essential Role of Eu 3+ in low-lead CsPbBr 3 QD glass. • Tunable Green-to-Red Emission via Eu/Pb Ratio. • Eu 3+ induced lattice contraction and PL blue shift. • Optical temperature sensing based on dual emission. CsPbBr 3 perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have garnered considerable attention owing to their outstanding optical properties. However, their practical applications are hindered by poor stability and the toxicity of lead, whereas lead-free alternatives often compromise optical performance. In this study, Eu 3 + -incorporated low-lead CsPbBr 3 QDs embedded in borosilicate glass were successfully fabricated via melt quenching and heat treatment. The molar fraction of PbBr 2 in the glass system is as low as 0.0367–0.0612%, corresponding to a lead reduction of approximately 97% compared with conventional CsPbBr 3 QD glasses. We demonstrate that Eu 3+ ions are essential for the precipitation of CsPbBr 3 QDs under low-lead conditions. Meanwhile, Eu 3+ provides red emission, thereby creating dual emission centers. The green-to-red emission ratio can be finely tuned by varying the Eu/Pb ratio. In addition, Eu 3+ substitution for Pb 2+ induces lattice contraction, which causes a blue shift of the emission peak of CsPbBr 3 QDs. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the Eu0.6 Pb0.08 sample reveal that the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) increases monotonically with increasing temperature from 100 to 300 K, with maximum absolute and relative sensitivities of 3.77 × 10 −2 K −1 and 5.55 × 10 −1 K −1 , respectively. This work demonstrates the potential of low-lead perovskite QD glasses for optical temperature sensing.

A Eu-MOG@PAN nanofibrous membrane was fabricated for amikacin sensing. • Amikacin induces red-to-blue fluorescence switching in the solid-state membrane. • Ratiometric detection is achieved without an additional reference fluorophore. • The membrane shows high selectivity with a detection limit of 0.38 μM. • Amikacin in whey was successfully determined by visual and fluorescence analysis. Lanthanide metal–organic materials are attractive for optical sensing, but their application in complex aqueous samples is often hindered by single-channel emission, poor processability and insufficient signal reliability. Herein, we report a flexible mixed-matrix nanofibrous membrane fabricated by confining a europium metal–organic gel (Eu-MOG) within an electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) scaffold. The membrane enables amikacin-triggered ratiometric luminescence sensing via nanoscale interfacial coordination. Upon exposure to amikacin, the amino groups of amikacin coordinate to Eu 3+ sites, perturb the Eu–carboxylate microenvironment and weaken the antenna effect, resulting in strong quenching of the Eu 3+ emission and simultaneous recovery of ligand-centred blue emission at 458 nm. This red-to-blue transformation provides a built-in ratiometric readout (I₄₅₈/I₆₁₉) without the need for an additional reference fluorophore. Control experiments confirm that the 458 nm emission originates from the organic ligand rather than from amikacin or PAN. Mechanistic studies based on fluorescence lifetimes, FT-IR, XPS, zeta-potential and spectral overlap reveal that the response is dominated by amikacin–Eu 3+ coordination and the consequent disruption of ligand-to-Eu 3+ energy transfer. The electrospun membrane offers an open, mechanically robust architecture that facilitates analyte access and solid-state operation. It exhibits high selectivity for amikacin over common inorganic ions, amino acids, and other antibiotics. The ratiometric response is linear over the low-concentration range of 1–9 μM, while the response at 10–100 μM can be described using a Logistic fitting model. The calculated limit of detection is 0.38 μM. The method was successfully applied to the determination of amikacin in whey samples with good reproducibility. This work presents a ligand-emission activation strategy for constructing lanthanide-based ratiometric nanofibrous membranes and demonstrates a portable platform for visual screening of antibiotic residues in dairy products. In this study, a new three-dimensional metal organic framework (MOF) named [Eu 2 (L) 3 (H 2 O) 2 ] n ( 1 ), act as the ultrasensitive fluorescence sensors for tetracycline and Fe 3+ in aqueous solution, have been successfully synthesized by using the 2-(1H-pyrazol-4-yl) terephthalic acid (H 2 L) and Eu(NO 3 ) 3 ·6H 2 O as the building units via the solvothermal synthesis procedure. Structure analysis reveal that 1 show a 3D molecular structure based on a binuclear secondary building units (SBUs). And also, the physical and chemical stability show that 1 show the good stability under the strong acid and alkali aqueous solution. The fluorescence properties explorations of 1 show that 1 exhibits the attractive fluorescence performances in detecting tetracycline (TC) and Fe 3+ ions with the LODs of 3.77361 × 10 −5 M for Fe 3+ and 1.21958 × 10 −6 M for TC, which is comparable and even exceed the publications. The sensing mechanism have also been seriously explored. And importantly, the recycling experiments reveal that 1 exhibited good recyclability in fluorescence recognition after multiple experiments, which may provide us with a potential optical material for fast and efficient detection of Fe 3+ ions and TC.

A fast fluorescent dual-emission platform for sensitive detection of sodium dehydroacetate (SDHA) in food is established utilizing bimetallic organic frameworks (Eu@Zr-MOFs). Eu@Zr-MOFs show two fluorescent emissions at 430 nm and 616 nm under single excitation wavelength of 290 nm. Two peaks separated by 180 nm help to eliminate environmental interference and improve the accuracy. In the presence of SDHA, fluorescent intensity at 430 nm and 616 nm shows fluorescent quenching within 1 min. Fluorescent lifetime results show that fluorescent quenching is a static quenching mode. Fluorescent quenching may be ascribed to the diketone structure of SDHA coordinated with Eu 3+ and internal filtering effect. The logarithm of fluorescent intensity (lg I 430 nm * I 616 nm ) has linear relationship with the concentration of SDHA from 0.1 µM to 200 µM with a limit of detection of 31.6 nM. More conveniently, it also achieves visual detection of SDHA through fluorescent color by portable UV lamp and smartphone “color capture” mode. The platform is applied to detect SDHA in fermented and baked food samples. Thus it is an efficient and sensitive fluorescent ratio method for SDHA detection with fast response, high selectivity and accuracy. Graphical

Constructing dual-ligand Eu-MOF fluorescent probes to improve the characteristic luminescence of Eu 3+ . • Developing an Eu-MOF aerogel system with selective recognition, sensitive detection, and flexible features. • Investigating the fluorescence quenching mechanism of Eu-MOF. • Achieving a Cu 2+ detection limit of 0.775 × 10 −6 M with potential applicability in real polluted water samples. Given the hazards of metal ions and the difficulties in recycling and agglomeration of rare earth metal–organic framework (MOFs) powders, this study constructs a flexible aerogel fluorescence sensing platform based on dual-ligand Eu-MOF for highly sensitive detection of Cu 2+ . Eu-MOF exhibits outstanding fluorescence sensing performance by virtue of sharp emission bands, large Stokes shift and excellent photostability, combined with coordination environment modulation via dual ligands. Immobilizing such MOF into a 3D aerogel network can effectively overcome the drawbacks of poor processability, easy agglomeration and difficult recovery of MOF powders while preserving their intrinsic luminescence properties. The results show that Eu-MOF can be uniformly loaded onto the pore wall surface of PVA/k-CG/SA aerogel without significantly affecting its original luminescence properties. The obtained PVA/k-CG/SA/Eu-MOF aerogel exhibited a well-developed porous architecture and good mechanical robustness, after 10 cycles of compression at 60 % strain, the maximum compressive stress still reaches 12.08 kPa. Furthermore, the material exhibits the highest luminescence intensity when the mass ratio of Eu-MOF to DPA is 1:2, further increasing the Eu-MOF content leads to fluorescence attenuation due to concentration quenching effects dominated by electric dipole-electric dipole interactions. Under optimized detection conditions, this aerogel demonstrates a significant and excellent selective fluorescence quenching response to Cu 2+ , with a detection limit as low as 0.775 × 10 −6 M. This study provides a feasible strategy for constructing flexible, recyclable, and processable rare-earth MOFs macroscopic fluorescent sensing materials and demonstrates their application potential in environmental monitoring.

Even though CaAlSiN 3 :Eu 2+ (CASN) is, in many regards, a highly suitable red phosphor that can be used in white light-emitting diodes, it can hardly be used in high-power laser-lighting because of its low saturation-threshold. By using CASN-based composite ceramics, it is possible to increase the threshold but new difficulties appear. These include complex and expensive synthesis, while the saturation-threshold still has room for improvement. In this study, we prepare a CASN/glass composite film , using an industry-friendly blade-coating method. The film has a high internal quantum efficiency of 79%, which suggests low conversion loss. Under 1.17 W blue laser excitation, a high luminous efficacy of 21.0 lm/W can be obtained. More importantly, the composite film shows a record-high saturation-threshold of more than 12.7 W (∼320 W/cm 2 ) blue laser excitation. With these outstanding properties, CASN/glass composite films may open doors towards commercially viable red color converters for high-power laser-lighting applications.

In this work, we prepared a Carbazole-Benzene-Tripyridine ligand with a d -π-A structure and synthesized its corresponding Eu (III) and Tb (III) complexes. The structures of the complexes were analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. It was surprisingly that the fluorescence emission intensity of the Eu(III) complex increases significantly once the solvent was added, indicating that the fluorescence could be activated by the solvent. However, it was confirmed that in the solid state, the complex molecules in the lattice were orderly arranged and there was a π-π stacking effect. The π-π stacking caused strong intermolecular interactions leading to emission quenching. The addition of solvent broke the π-π stacking and enhanced the fluorescence of the Eu(III) complex. The color of the fluorescence emission of the Eu(III) complex depended on the kind of added solvent. The results of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggested that the rotation of the C C single bond in the d -π-A structure ligand in different solvents caused a change in the spatial angle between the carbazole-benzene unit and the tripolypyridine unit in the ligand, thereby changing the excited state energy of the ligand. Hence, the varied emission colors of the complex reflect differences in the energy transfer efficiency of the ligand to rare earth ion. The solvent effect of the Eu(III) complex was then successfully applied in the rapid identification of specific alcohols.

In this study, we use cytarabine anticancer drug to synthesize a new rare earth complex with Europium ion. The study work is an attempt to investigate luminescence and biological properties of the Eu-based coordination polymers of cytarabine (Eu-CP-Ara) anticancer drug which have been prepared by us. Eu-CP-Ara has luminescence properties with emission centering at about 619 nm excited with 394 nm. We study cytarabine and Eu-CP-Ara in vitro cytotoxicity. Cytotoxicity of Eu-CP-Ara against lung cancer cells (A549) could even be comparable to the inhibitory effect of cytarabine ligands, showing the advantage of antitumor activity. In addition, Eu-CP-Ara showed lower cytotoxicity to normal liver cells (L02). At the same, from the CLSM images, Eu-CP-Ara has successfully entered the A549 cell. Hence, Eu-CP-Ara can be used as a potential anticancer drug. Eu-CP-Ara may be an effective strategy for the tracking cytarabine against tumours and might impart better accurate treatment effect and therapeutic efficiency.
