With the aid of polyaniline (PANI), multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were vertically arrayed on electrode surface by Langmuir–Blodgett technology, which was a novel preparation strategy of vertically aligned MWCNTs modified electrode . The proposed method was applied to design a sensitive voltammetric sensor for the determination of daidzein . Compared to the randomly dispersed MWCNTs modified electrode, a lower detection limit (8 × 10 −8 mol L −1 ) and wider linear range (1.0 × 10 −7 –9.0 × 10 −6 mol L −1 ) were achieved by the proposed sensor. The results indicated that the aligned morphology of MWCNTs could effectively facilitate the transportation of electrons and electrolyte ions .

A facile electrochemical sensor for hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC) determination was successfully fabricated by the modification of poly(3-aminophenylboronic acid) (pAPBA) film and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on a glassy carbon electrode (pAPBA/MWCNTs/GCE). The prepared sensor was characterized by scanning electron microscope and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Under optimal conditions, differential pulse voltammetry was employed to quantify individual HQ and CC within the concentration range of 5.0 × 10−7–4.0 × 10−5 mol L−1 and 7.0 × 10−6–1.0 × 10−4 mol L−1, respectively. Based on the covalent binding between the boronic acid groups of pAPBA film and the cis-diol-containing molecule, a novel substitution-sensing strategy was proposed for the highly sensitive determination of CC. With the addition of CC into HQ solution, covalent interaction between CC and APBA occurred and the HQ was displaced by CC, resulting in a decrease of HQ oxidation peak current and the increase of the CC oxidation peak current. The summation of both current changes (Δ|IHQ| + Δ|ICC|) were combined for CC sensitive detection in a concentration range of 4.0 × 10−8–1.7 × 10−5 mol L−1 with a limit of detection of 4.3 × 10−9 mol L−1. The sensor was successfully applied to the determination of CC in spiked water samples.

Monosaccharide-functionalized poly(phenylacetylenes) (PPAs) are synthesized with high yield and molecular weight, but it shows no solvating power to multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by simply blending them together. Polymerization of monosaccharide-functionalized monomers in the presence of MWCNTs (in situ polymerization) leads to the hybrids of monosaccharide-functionalized PPAs/MWCNTs, and the content of MWCNTs is over 2% by weight. The characterization data indicates that the π–π interaction between the styrene-like moieties in the polymer backbone and the MWCNTs plays crucial role in the dispersing capacity. Based on the in situ precipitation method, CS rods containing monosaccharide-functionalized PPAs/MWCNTs hybrids were fabricated. The bending strength and modulus of the hybrid-reinforced CS rods showed substantial improvement in comparison with the CS rods made from pristine and hydroxyapatite-reinforced CS.

A simple electrochemical sensor based on a novel composite film consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), a room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BMIMPF6), and amino functionalized graphene (GR–CO–NH–CH2–CH2–NH2) was constructed for the detection of kanamycin. Firstly, MWCNTs–BMIMPF6 composites were fabricated on the surface of a glass carbon electrode (GCE). The synergy mechanism between the MWCNTs and RTIL has been discussed. Secondly, GR–CO–NH–CH2–CH2–NH2 was modified on the first film, which could greatly improve the conductivity of the electrode. The structure of the resultant graphene oxide (GO) was confirmed by FTIR and SEM. The properties of the aptasensor were characterized by electrochemical methods. Under the optimum conditions, the electrochemical aptasensor exhibited a wide linear range for kanamycin from 0.001 to 100 μM with a low limit of detection of 0.87 nM (S/N = 3). The as-prepared aptasensor showed high sensitivity, reproducibility and stability. Finally, the proposed electrochemical aptasensor was successfully applied for the detection of kanamycin in a real sample.

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) can endow high dielectric constant to polymer-based composites. However, the accompanying poor dispersion of MWCNTs and high dielectric loss for composites severely limit their application in dielectric field. Herein, a modified acid-treated MWCNTs encapsulated by the polyaniline/poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) layers ( a MWCNTs@PANI-PSS) with a one core-two shell structure was fabricated by in situ polymerization followed by electrostatic self-assembly technique. Furthermore, the composite films based on a MWCNTs@PANI-PSS/poly(vinylidenefluoride-hexaflouropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) were fabricated by a solution-casting method. An ultrathin insulating PSS shell is wrapped onto a MWCNTs@PANI, resulting in the improvement of dispersibility for a MWCNTs@PANI and the decrease of dielectric loss for composite films. When the content of a MWCNTs@PANI-PSS is 5.0 wt %, the dielectric constant of a MWCNTs@PANI-PSS/PVDF-HFP reaches 430 (100 Hz), which is about 55 times of pure PVDF-HFP and 1.7 times of a MWCNTs@PANI/PVDF-HFP (247). Besides, the responding dielectric loss of a MWCNTs@PANI-PSS/PVDF-HFP composite film is only 0.67, much lower than that of a MWCNTs@PANI/PVDF-HFP (25) and a MWCNTs/PVDF-HFP (3185). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Disinfection by-products (DBPs), which formed in the process of chlorination disinfection of water, has a potential threat to human health. To date, Natural organic matter (NOM) is the precursor of DBPs so that it is important to remove the NOM to reduce the generation of DBPs. Coagulation is a key process to remove the NOM from water. However, the traditional coagulants have poor removal ability for hydrophilic(HPI) NOM. In this study, multi walled carbon nanotubes was modified with Mg, Ca and Fe to produce modified multi walled carbon nanotubes and then reacted with Al 13 to produce composite coagulant. Al 13 and composited coagulants were utilized to treat water with bovine serum albumin to compare the removal efficiency for HPI NOM. The results showed that the composited coagulant had a relatively high removal efficiency for organic matter, and among them, the effect of Al 13 -MgMW is best. The DOM removal rates of Al 13 and Al 13 -MgMW at doses of 0.12 mmol/L were 64.8 % and 75 %, respectively. Meanwhile, Al 13 -MgMW had an 89.2 % removal rate for HPI NOM. The XPS and FTIR of flocs showed that the Al 13 -MgMW had a significant removal ability for O C substances such as proteins. MgMW has a larger specific surface area and pore volume. ESI-TOF-MS results showed the composited coagulants retain the original structure of Al 13 , and thus preserve and improve the advantages of Al 13 .

s To overcome the disadvantages such as local stiffness/strength reduction caused by the embedded sensors in composites structures used for structural health monitoring , we designed a surface pasting film sensor (SPFS) to locate the impact damage in glass-fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) panels and composite overwrapped pressure vessel (COPV). The SPFS was made by printing MWCNTs/PDMS ink onto a PDMS film substrate. The relative resistance response (Δ R / R 0 ) of the sensing networks was recorded during loading. Sensing performance of SPFSs was evaluated by monitoring damages in GFRP panels with three different thicknesses and assessing three typical positions within a COPV. The experimental results demonstrated that variations in the load magnitude and position can be estimated by Δ R / R 0 shift of the SPFS. The newly designed SPFS shows superior accuracy in in-situ detecting damages in FRP structures. The maximum root mean square error for damage localization is 4.45% in GFRP panels and 4.27% in COPV. The presented concept provides a novel approach for early detection of damages in FRP structures, offering advanced warning without disrupting their inherent integrity.

The extensive application of doxycycline hydrochloride (DOX) in cultivation industry concerns regarding its potential ecological ramifications. Electrocatalysis has emerged as a safe and efficient method for antibiotic removal from water. In this study, Ni/MWCNTs-COOH/Ti composite electrodes were prepared using anodic oxidation and constant-current electrodeposition techniques for the cathodic electrocatalytic degradation of DOX. The electrodes were characterized and evaluated using SEM, XRD , and XPS analysis . Under optimized conditions, 75.49 % of DOX was eliminated within 60 min with an energy consumption of 0.66 kWh/m 3 . Even after ten successive degradation cycles, the degradation rate of DOX remained at 70.78 %, confirming the exceptional stability of the electrodes. LC-MS analysis was employed to identify intermediates formed during the DOX degradation process. The results revealed that the hybrid orbital coordination structure formed by vacant d orbitals and d orbitals on the exoelectronic structure of Ni enhances catalytic activity and electrochemical stability. And the exposed reactive groups on the outer surface of MWCNTs-COOH, acting synergistically with Ni. Furthermore, the composite cathode generates reactive H ⁎ and the anode generates ·OH, resulting in a synergistic coupling that further enhances catalytic activity. This study presents a novel approach for addressing antibiotic contamination through environmental remediation.

Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites are commonly used in structural components because of their favorable mechanical properties. However, their limited interlayer toughness, resulting from their laminated structure and inherent brittleness, restricts their broader range of applications. The study's goal was to make the matrix system stronger by connecting carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-C) with polydopamine (PDA) and polyethyleneimine (PEI). A ternary resin system consisting of epoxy resin (EP) and vinyl ester resin (VER) was created. This system has an interpenetrating network (IPN)structure and modified particles, which improves the interlayer toughness of unidirectional CFRP laminates. The modified MWCNTs-C has better surface reactivity, which lets it spread out well inside the IPN structure made by EP and VER. This reduces the "self-filtering effect" of the particles that come into contact with the VARTM process. The incorporation of 1 wt% of modified MWCNTs-C particles leads to a significant 107% improvement in the Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness of unidirectional CFRP composites with G ⅠC ,prop value. This suggests that 1 wt% is the optimal amount of particle inclusion. The Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness (G ⅠC ,prop) of unidirectional CFRP composites goes up by 124% when IPN structural toughening is added, reaching a value of 1216 J/m 2 . They found that adding IPN structural toughening to unidirectional CFRP composites raised the Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness (G ⅠC ,prop) by 124%, giving it a value of 1216 J/m 2 . We improved the Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness (G ⅠC ,prop) of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites by 147% by adding particle reinforcement and interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) architecture. The highest value recorded was 1340 J/m 2. Concurrently, the synergistic toughening process was examined by comparing empirical data and scanning electron microscope pictures. This analysis offers a valuable point of reference for choosing the interlaminar toughening method for carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites.

PDMS-CNTs composite-based TENGs exhibit promising potential in mechanical energy harvesting due to their flexibility and processing versatility; however, the inherent limitations of PDMS and poor dispersion of CNTs severely restrict their performance. Despite various modification strategies, existing approaches often compromise material properties, making it crucial to develop effective solutions for high-performance TENG devices. Herein, we introduce an innovative approach to fabricate high-performance TENGs based on porous polydimethylsiloxane/multi-walled carbon nanotubes/hydroxypropyl cellulose (PDMS-MWCNTs/HPC) composites through a unique "sponge pump absorption" method. Using HPC as a molecular bridge enables stable MWCNTs dispersion and uniform deposition within porous PDMS framework. The resultant composite foam exhibits exceptional mechanical resilience with 99 % recovery after 60 % compression and enhanced electrical output, achieving peak voltage and current of 149.09 V and 262.72 nA at 87 % porosity under 40 N force. The hierarchical porous structure, formed by unfiltered NaCl templates, significantly enhances surface charge density and charge transfer efficiency, while maintaining essential dielectric properties through HPC incorporation. The device demonstrates reliable performance in powering LEDs and exhibits distinct electrical responses to various mechanical deformations including stretching, twisting, and bending. This strategy presents an effective approach for fabricating high-performance TENG devices with great potential in self-powered sensing and sustainable energy harvesting applications.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus ( VP ) is one of the most common pathogens in aquatic products, and its study using electrochemiluminescence is still relatively rare. In this study, an electrochemiluminescent (ECL) biosensor was developed to detect VP in aquatic products using AuNPs modified PEI/MWCNTs (AuNPs@PEI/MWCNTs) as a substrate material and ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) adsorbed Ru(bpy) 3 2+ (OMC@Ru(bpy) 3 2+ ) as a luminescent material. To increase the conductivity of the biosensor and offer a favorable loading environment for the immobilization of the luminescent probe, AuNPs@PEI/MWCNTs are employed as the substrate. Meanwhile, the OMC@Ru(bpy) 3 2+ functionalized DNA probe acts as a luminescent and capture probe to generate ECL signals and specifically recognize different concentrations of VP . The biosensor has good selectivity and stability and has been successfully applied to the detection of VP in scallops. This method not only expands the potential uses of bioprobe-based ECL biosensors, but also offers a new and effective approach used to detect food-borne pathogens in aquatic products.

Sunset yellow(SY) is a synthetic azo food dye, which is extensively utilized in the food processing industry. Nevertheless, its potential detrimental impacts on human health necessitate meticulous consideration. Consequently, the development of a user-friendly and rapidly responsive assay for the monitoring and analysis of SY in food products is of utmost importance. This study introduces an innovative electrochemical sensor based on polyoxometalates decorated with polypyrrole and multi-walled carbon nanotubes [Co 4 (PW 9 O 34 ) 2 @PPy-MWCNTs] for SY detection. The Co 4 (PW 9 O 34 ) 2 composite was prepared by using the nitrogen-containing ligand (1,4-bis (1-imidazolyl) butane) and the conductive polypyrrole was coated on Co 4 (PW 9 O 34 ) 2 , which avoided the solution of polyoxometalates in the electrolyte and improved the electrochemical stability. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes was employed to further enhance electron transfer rate. Research has shown that Co 4 (PW 9 O 34 ) 2 @PPy-MWCNTs exhibits superior electron transfer rates and remarkable electrocatalytic activity, which significantly amplify the oxidation signal of SY. Under optimal experimental conditions, the established detection range for SY is 10–1150 μM, with a detection limit of 0.425 μM. Additionally, the Co 4 (PW 9 O 34 ) 2 @PPy-MWCNTs modified electrode has good anti-interference and stability. The Co 4 (PW 9 O 34 ) 2 @PPy-MWCNTs modified electrode was successfully applied to detect SY in Fanta with yielding recovery rates between 97.79 % and 101.48 %, demonstrating substantial application potential as an effective means for SY detection.
