The solid–liquid phase equilibria of the quaternary system Na+, Cs+//Cl–, CO32––H2O and its subsystem Na2CO3–Cs2CO3–H2O at 308.15 K were studied by the isothermal dissolution method. The phase diagram of the system Na2CO3–Cs2CO3–H2O is composed of two single-salt crystallization fields of Na2CO3·H2O and Cs2CO3·H2O, two solubility univariant curves, and one invariant point. The dry-salt phase diagram of the quaternary system consists of three invariant points, seven univariant curves, and five crystallization regions corresponding to Na2CO3·H2O, NaCl, solid solution [Cs1–x(Na·H2O)x]Cl, Cs2CO3·H2O, and double salt CsCl·2NaCl·2H2O. The areas of crystallization zones decrease according to the above order. The Jan̈ecke index of H2O, pH, and refractive index of the liquid phase in the quaternary system change regularly with the Jan̈ecke index of Cs+. These results on the phase diagram of the quaternary system can supply theoretical references for cesium salt separation from carbonate-type brine.

Metal hydroxides are capable of capturing atmospheric
carbon dioxide
and further converting it into value-added chemicals or fuels, which
is considered one of the most promising CO 2 capture and
utilization (CCU) technologies. However, the production and regeneration
of metal hydroxides are extremely challenging due to their process
defects, including high energy consumption and environmental pollution.
Herein, a Na-ion exchange membrane direct formate fuel cell (Na-DFFC)
was developed that can achieve the continuous production and collection
of alkali while simultaneously generating electricity. The polarization
curves indicate that the peak power density of the electro-alkali-coproducing
Na-DFFC reaches 8 mW cm –2 under ambient temperature
without supplying alkaline electrolyte to the anode. The Na-DFFC operates
stably at 10 mA cm –2 with a NaOH production efficiency
higher than 95%, which demonstrates the conceptual feasibility and
durability of this electro-alkali coproducing device. In addition,
the concentration of the collected NaOH solution, up to 3.63 M, is
obtained in this work through the adjustment of the water flow rate
and flow mode, confirming the Na-DFFC’s capability for concentrated
NaOH production. More importantly, unlike the traditional chlor-alkali
process, the Na-DFFC provides a more energy-efficient and environment-friendly
pathway to produce green alkali.

Materials integrating electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and infrared (IR) stealth possess great application potential but face obstacles in large-scale production. Herein, MXene/sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Na) composite ink is synthesized via facile, scalable vacuum ball milling. CMC-Na chains adhere to MXene through intermolecular hydrogen bonds; electrostatic repulsion restrains nanosheet stacking, while the coating hinders MXene oxidation. The ink exhibits outstanding machinability and can form uniform films on various substrates via screen printing or coating. At a MXene/CMC-Na mass ratio of 4:1, the film achieves balanced performance: a tensile strength of 82.84 MPa, an elongation at break of 2.67%, a toughness of 1.58 MJ·m – 3 , an EMI shielding effectiveness of 33 dB, and a specific shielding effectiveness of 37,260 dB·cm 2 ·g –1 . Low IR emissivities of 19.56% (3–5 μm) and 13.65% (8–14 μm) reduce the surface radiant temperature to 69 ° C under 150 ° C heating. Its layered structure combines surface and internal multiple reflections to reconcile EMI shielding and IR stealth. This low-cost scalable strategy supports the development of integrated shielding-stealth wearable electronic devices.

Cellular signaling networks are orchestrated by complex
interactions
between gene expression and ion flux, yet tools for simultaneously
visualizing these events in living cells remain limited. Herein, we
report two orthogonal gold-nanoparticle-based DNA nanosensors that
enable simultaneous imaging of sodium/hydrogen exchanger 1 (NHE1)
mRNA and Na + dynamics in hepatocellular carcinoma cells.
The sensing mechanism relies on proximity-dependent fluorescence quenching.
For mRNA detection, Cy3-labeled reporter strands hybridize to DNA-functionalized
gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), holding the fluorophore close to the quenching
surface. Target binding triggers strand displacement, releasing Cy3,
and restoring emission. For Na + detection, a Cy5-labeled
substrate strand hybridizes with a Na + -specific DNAzyme
anchored on AuNPs. Na + activates the DNAzyme, cleaving
the substrate at a defined site and liberating the Cy5 fluorophore.
This dual-sensor system enables the quantitative monitoring of both
analytes in living cells. Using this platform, we directly visualize
that NHE1 mRNA downregulation suppresses intracellular Na + accumulation, establishing a regulatory link between gene expression
and ion homeostasis. Notably, mRNA-targeted hybridization inhibits
cancer-cell migration in a dose-dependent manner, revealing a potential
therapeutic mechanism. This approach provides a molecular tool for
decoding ion-based signaling networks in cancer biology.

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are promising alternatives to lithium-ion batteries due to their low cost and abundant sodium resources; however, conventional liquid electrolytes suffer from safety issues and interfacial instability. Herein, a gel polymer electrolyte (TPU–TiO₂ GPE) was developed by incorporating 5 wt% TiO₂ nanoparticles into a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) matrix. The Lewis acidic centers of TiO₂ interact synergistically with polyurethane chain segments, reducing polymer crystallinity and enhancing chain mobility. As a result, the TPU–TiO₂ GPE exhibits higher room-temperature ionic conductivity (2.91 × 10 −4 S·cm −1 ) and tensile strength (32.7 MPa) than pristine TPU. Moreover, the TPU–TiO₂ GPE forms a stable and uniform solid–electrolyte interphase (SEI) on sodium metal, effectively suppressing dendrite growth. Na||Na symmetric cells demonstrate stable cycling for over 250 h at 0.2 mA·cm −2 , while Na||Na₃V₂(PO₄)₃ full cells retain 93.84% of their capacity after 280 cycles at 0.5C. The state of charge (SOC) of the full cells was estimated using a second-order RC equivalent circuit model combined with an extended Kalman filter (EKF). Compared with the pristine TPU system, the TPU–TiO₂ GPE exhibits smoother OCV–SOC characteristics and reduced polarization, leading to significantly improved SOC estimation accuracy. The voltage-model fitting RMSE is reduced from approximately 2.4 mV to 1.3 mV. This improvement enables more reliable SOC tracking across the entire SOC range. These results indicate that the TPU–TiO₂ GPE enhances both electrochemical performance and SOC predictability, providing a viable strategy for safe and intelligently managed sodium-ion batteries.

Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) plays a crucial role in environmental remediation, chemical synthesis, and energy storage. Nevertheless, its industrial production is energy consuming with significant environmental burdens. Here we show a proof-of-concept thermoelectrocatalytic strategy for H 2 O 2 production directly from seawater, driven solely by low-grade waste heat. A low-temperature thermoelectric (TE) material, Na- and Pb-codoped SnSe, is designed as a catalyst that enables efficient H 2 O 2 generation under a moderate temperature gradient (Δ T ). This system achieves an H 2 O 2 production rate of 6.1 mmol g −1 h −1 from seawater under Δ T = 120 K, which is competitive with the representative photocatalytic systems. Experimental and theoretical analyses reveal that Na/Pb-codoping improves the TE properties, promotes charge carrier migration under Δ T , and promotes the oxygen reduction reaction toward H 2 O 2 formation. The naturally formed strong electric layer at the catalyst-seawater interface further promotes both reaction kinetics and thermodynamic driving forces. Our finding provides a sustainable route for H 2 O 2 production from seawater using waste heat and demonstrates great potential of TE-catalysis for waste heat utilization.

Sodium metal, with its high theoretical capacity, low redox potential, and cost-effectiveness, presents a promising anode candidate for next-generation high-energy-density batteries. However, the development of Na metal anodes is significantly challenged by issues such as uncontrolled dendrite growth, uncontrolled volume expansion, and associated safety concerns. Designing and developing advanced materials to enhance the conductivity of sodium metal anodes and promote uniform sodium ion deposition are of urgent importance. Herein, a MXene-based hybrid material was developed by integrating MOF-derived Zn, Co, N, and C dopants with Ti3C2Tx MXene to serve as a hosting substrate for the Na metal anode. The MXene provided a conductive framework, while the MOF-derived dopants introduced sodiophilic sites, promoting uniform Na deposition and mitigating volume expansion. The optimized material demonstrated an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.99% over 3000 cycles and stable cycling for over 5000 h in symmetrical cells and maintained over 80% capacity retention at 3 C after 500 cycles in full-cell tests, highlighting its potential as a robust Na metal anode material.

As a novel lead-free perovskite derivative material, zero-dimensional Cs3Cu2I5 crystals exhibit remarkable optical properties and hold great application prospects in the field of radiation detection. To further enhance the scintillation performance and detection efficiency, we fabricated high-quality, centimeter-level Cs3Cu2I5:Na+ single crystals using a low-cost anti-solvent method. Na+ doping in the Cs3Cu2I5 lattice optimizes the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) to 95%, which can be attributed to enhanced exciton–phonon coupling and boosted self-trapped exciton fraction. Compared to the intrinsic crystal, the energy resolution and light yield of Cs3Cu2I5:5%Na+ under 137Cs γ-rays are improved by 22% and 10.5%, respectively. Under X-ray excitation, Cs3Cu2I5:5%Na+ crystals exhibit stronger RL intensity, faster response speed, lower afterglow and lower detection limit. Based on excellent X-ray detection capability, a breakthrough spatial resolution of 25.6 LP per mm@MTF = 0.2 is achieved for the Cs3Cu2I5:5%Na+@PMMA flexible film. Cs3Cu2I5:Na+ crystals boast superior optical performance, exceptional detection capabilities, cost-effectiveness and eco-friendliness, rendering them a highly competitive candidate for high-resolution γ-ray detection and flexible X-ray imaging.

Sodium-sulfur (Na-S) batteries are believed as the hopeful energy storage and conversion techniques owing to the high specific capacity and low cost. Nevertheless, unstable sodium (Na) deposition/stripping of Na metal anode, low intrinsic conductivity of sulfur cathode, and severe shuttling effect of sodium polysulfides (NaPSs) pose significant challenges in the actual reversible capacity and cycle life of Na-S batteries. Herein, a self-supporting electrode made of nitrogen-doped carbon fiber embedded with cobalt nanoparticles (Co/NC-CF) is designed to load sulfur. Meanwhile, gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) with high ion transfer ability is obtained by in-situ polymerization inside the battery. During the polymerization process, an integrated electrode-electrolyte and a continuous ion-electron conduction network in a composite cathode are constructed inside the Na-S battery. It is noteworthy that the designed GPE demonstrates superior ionic conductivity and effective adsorption of NaPSs that can significantly suppress the shuttle effect. Leveraging the synergistic interplay between the designed GPE and self-supporting cathode, the assembled quasi-solid-state (QSS) Na-S battery exhibits great cycling stability. These experimental results are further corroborated by COMSOL Multiphysics simulations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, which mechanistically validate the enhanced electrochemical performance. The findings of this study offer new and promising perspectives for advancing the development of next-generation solid-state batteries.

Electronic modulation of Pt sites is of great significance in catalytic reaction involved chemical engineering process. Alkali metal doping is a promising strategy to modify the d orbit of Pt, which can effectively affect the reaction between material and adsorbates, however, the relationship is still unclear. Here, we have rationally designed Pt-modified Na-doped WO 3 nanorods, and the electronic modulation of Pt can be finely modified by Na doping. The Pt-Na/WO 3 -Ar nanorods exhibit excellent H₂S sensing performance, with high response (R a /R g = 701 @ 1 ppm), low operating temperature (110 °C), and detection limit as low as 2.42 ppb. Experimental and theoretical results indicate that the introducing of Na effectively enhances the interaction between Pt nanoparticles (NPs) and WO 3 . Additionally, Na doping successfully modulate the d-band center of Pt, optimizing the adsorption and desorption processes during sensing. The synergistic effects of these components enable the Pt-Na/WO 3 -Ar sensor to exhibit outstanding H₂S sensing performance. Notably, the fabricated sensors are further used to monitor the hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) of halitosis biomarkers, which holds significant application potential in environmental protection and medical diagnostics.

Layered vanadium oxides have been considered as highly promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) due to their unique open crystal structure and high theoretical specific capacity. However, the structural instability and sluggish Zn2+ diffusion kinetics limit their further application in ZIBs. Here, a novel and stable cathode (porous Na-V2O5) for aqueous ZIBs is rationally constructed by using a straightforward MOF-assisted synthetic method. The Na-V2O5 exhibits remarkable capacity of 306 mAh g−1 at 0.1 A g−1, exceptional rate characteristics (264.3 mAh g−1 at 2.0 A g−1), and great cycling capabilities over 1000 cycles with a capacity-retention of 83.4% when examined as a cathode for ZIBs. Higher pseudo-capacitance, quicker charge-transfer/ion-diffusion kinetics, and a robust architecture have been attained in the Na-V2O5 cathode, which are in charge of the superior zinc-ion storage performance. This has been made possible by the pre-intercalated Na+ cations and the resulting layer structure. Additionally, the Zn2+ and H+ co-intercalation/extraction-based energy storage method has been validated. This research may help rationally design layer-structured V2O5 cathodes for high energy and power density aqueous energy storage systems.

Nickel particles with different contents of Ni 3 S 2 surface layer were prepared for their application as cathode materials in Na/NiCl 2 batteries . The surface modification of nickel particles is found to prevent their growth and battery degradation during cycling. The optimum level of surface modification was determined by electrochemical tests and morphology characterization. Excessive Ni 3 S 2 layer seems to cause particle aggregation resulting in low reversible capacity. The capacity of the cell with optimum level of Ni 3 S 2 surface modification layer after 50 cycles is about 4 times greater than that without Ni 3 S 2 surface modification layer.
