The design of highly fire-safe and smoke-suppressive single-component epoxy (EP) resins combining modest curing temperature and fast curing rate has been desirable yet very challenging in both academia and industry. Herein, we report a facile design of a phosphorus/imidazole-containing single-component EP system via incorporating 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) and a flame-retardant curing agent cyclotriphosphazene-modified benzimidazole (BICP) into EP. Our results show that EP/DOPO/BICP exhibits a rapid modest-temperature curing feature because DOPO serves as a switch that triggers BICP to release benzimidazole (BIM) via substitution reaction in the initial curing stage. Moreover, as-prepared EP/DOPO/BICP shows outstanding fire retardancy, reflected by the high limited oxygen index (LOI) of 38.3% and UL-94 V-0 rating. Compared to the control EP system, the peak of heat release rate (PHRR) and total smoke production (TSP) of EP/DOPO/BICP remarkably decrease by ~74.5% and ~50.6%, respectively, which is superior to previously-reported flame-retardant P-containing epoxy counterparts. The significant enhancements in flame retardancy and smoke suppression are mainly due to the formation of a highly intumescent char layer and the reduced burning degree of pyrolysis fragments. This work offers a facile and scalable strategy for creating fast-curing, modest-temperature curable, highly fire-resistant and smoke-suppressive one-component epoxy systems applicable to large-scale industrial production.

Paper-based relics as important carriers of human history and civilization have been facing severe damage problems, and their protection is a major project for cultural heritage restoration. So far, safe, high-efficiency, and multifunctional protection materials are still urgent to be developed. Herein, through screening a series of alkaline nano-oxides and cleverly combining the advantages of modified natural polymer (quaternized chitosan) and inorganic nanomaterials (ZnO), we successfully prepared their functional nanocomposites with multiple properties and pioneered their smart application for multifunctional protection of paper relics. By spraying loads, this kind of nanocomposites can effectively and safely inhibit the acid degradation of paper relics and long-term maintain a natural or weak basic state even under harsh accelerated aging conditions. Meanwhile, the coating of nanocomposites does not change the chromatic aberration but partially improves the hydrophobicity. Moreover, the mechanical properties of paper relics are reinforced up to more than one time for all-around tensile strength, folding endurance, and tearing strength. It is worth noting that the usage of nanocomposites can avoid the discoloration or fading of pH-sensitive pigments/dyes and prevent the blue/red inks from ink-spreading. By integrating the anti-microorganism effects of the two components, the nanocomposites have exhibited a broad antimicrobial capacity for both fungi (e.g., Plectosphaerella cucumerina and Aspergillus unguis ) and bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus ). The acquired knowledge not only represents an advanced step for designing functionalized inorganic/polymer nanocomposite but also sheds light on the multi-functional integrated protection of paper-based relics.

Separator is a pivotal component of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and determines the electrochemical performance and safety. However, with the increase in energy density and application scenarios, commercial polyolefin separators are increasingly unable to undertake heavy responsibility of battery safety protection. Herein, a new kind of nanofiber separator based on poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) with excellent thermal stability, self-extinguishing, and superior electrochemical properties is reported. Effective inheritance of intrinsic properties from raw PEEK materials and optimized hot-pressing operation endows the separator with high robustness and wettability, showing tensile strength of 15.8 MPa and a contact angle of 17.2°. The high thermal stability of PEEK can ensure the separator to preserve the structural integrity and microstructure at temperatures beyond 300 °C, and the excellent self-extinguishing peculiarity of PEEK capacitates the high safety of LIB. Notably, benefitting from high porosity and polar surface, the PEEK separator shows high electrolyte uptake of 245.5% and exhibits a wider electrochemical window and faster lithium-ion transport number than commercial polyolefin separators. Furthermore, cells assembled with PEEK separator display better performance than the ones with PE separator, and the PEEK LIB has been successfully used to light up a lamp at a high temperature of 150 °C.

Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), a commonly used antibacterial nanomaterial, exhibit broad-spectrum antibacterial activity to combat drug-resistant bacteria. However, the Ag NPs often causes a low availability and high toxicity to living bodies due to their easy aggregation and uncontrolled release of Ag+in the bacterial microenvironment. Here, we report a porous metal−organic framework (MOF)-based Zr-2-amin-1,4-NH2[email protected](denoted as UiO-66-NH2-Ag) nanocomposite using an in-situ immobilization strategy where Ag NPs were fixed on the UiO-66-NH2for improving the dispersion and utilization of Ag NPs. As a result, the reduced use dose of Ag NPs largely improves the biosafety of the UiO-66-NH2-Ag. Meanwhile, after activation by the Ag NPs, the UiO-66-NH2-Ag can act as nanozyme with high peroxidase (POD)-like activity to efficiently catalyze the decomposition of H2O2to extremely toxic hydroxyl radicals (·OH) in the bacterial microenvironment. Simultaneously, the high POD-like activity synergies with the controllable Ag+release leads to enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, facilitating the death of resistant bacteria. This synergistic antibacterial strategy enables the low concentration (12 μg/mL) of UiO-66-NH2-Ag to achieve highly efficient inactivation of ampicillin-resistant Escherichia coli (AmprE. coli) and endospore-forming Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis). In vivo results illustrate that the UiO-66-NH2-Ag nanozyme has a safe and accelerated bacteria-infected wound healing. Keywords:antibacterial;silver ions release;nanozyme;metal−organic framework;wound healing

Recently, to prepare energetic materials (EMs) with high energy and low sensitivity has attracted much attention in the field of EMs research. However, the safe and efficient manners to prepare such EMs are still limited. In this work, a continuous microfluidic self-assembly method was developed to prepare TATB/HMX composite particles, which has great safety performances (H 50 = 64.6 cm, friction sensitivity = 0 %) and detonation properties (detonation velocity 8375 m/s, ρ = 1.780 g/cm 3 ). The XRD and SEM results show that in-situ generated nano-TATB (mass fraction 10 %) is not only bonded to the surface of HMX, but also embed in the crystal. Furthermore, this method realizes the continuous and stable preparation of TATB/HMX composite particles within 80 min. We anticipate that this work will inspire new perspectives for the preparation of insensitive high-energy explosives.

A multifunctional P-PBA@PDA@CNTs coating is designed via surface coordination. • This design decouples flame retardancy and electrocatalysis in one interlayer. • Accessible bimetallic Co/Fe sites suppress polysulfide shuttling effectively. • Li S batteries deliver 1598.3 mAh g −1 at 0.2C and stable 400 cycle life. • The separator maintains integrity at 200 °C with 48.6% heat release reduction. Lithium‑sulfur (Li S) batteries are trapped by an intrinsic conflict between incendiary hazards and sluggish polysulfide conversion, as traditional flame retardants typically passivate catalytic sites while electrocatalysts fail to suppress thermal runaway. Here, we bypass this compromise through a coordination-driven functional partitioning strategy, constructing a multifunctional composite consisting of phytic acid-coordinated Prussian blue analogue, polydopamine, and carbon nanotubes (denoted as P-PBA@PDA@CNTs) interlayer that decouples these antagonistic roles at the molecular level. Phytic acid (PA) is grafted onto the surface of pre-crystallized bimetallic Prussian blue analogues (PBA) via multidentate coordination, securing a dense phosphorus-rich shield for robust char formation upon thermal attack, while the underlying bimetallic framework retains its catalytic centers for unimpeded electrocatalysis. This precise spatial decoupling yields exceptional thermomechanical integrity at 200 °C, prompt self-extinguishing, and a 48.6% reduction in peak heat release, alongside significantly accelerated liquid-solid conversion kinetics, driven by synergistic chemisorption and catalytic conversion at the unimpeded bimetallic sites. The resulting Li S batteries deliver a near-theoretical capacity of 1598.3 mAh g −1 at 0.2C with stable cyclability, while Li||Li symmetric cells sustain dendrite-free deposition over 600 h. Our surface coordination paradigm offers a molecular blueprint to synchronously resolve the long-standing safety-kinetics dilemma in high-energy Li S systems, moving beyond single-function modifications toward intrinsically synergistic interface engineering. The present study describes the development of a highly effective approach for determining the residue distribution and dissipation of trifloxystrobin and tebuconazole, and their risk assessment in brown rice, husk, straw, and grain using high-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The current study provides considerable novel information regarding the safe utilization of a mixture of trifloxystrobin and tebuconazole in paddy production. The samples demonstrated a range of mean recoveries between 72% and 86%, with a 1.1–9.2% relative standard deviation (RSD). The limits of quantification (LOQ) and half-lives (t1/2) for brown rice, husk, straw, and grain were, respectively, established to be 0.001–0.01 mg/kg and 4.1–7.7 days. The concentrations of terminal residues in the brown rice, husk, straw, and grain were, respectively, found to be 0.02–0.05, 0.03–0.11, 0.02–0.07, and 0.02–0.05 mg/kg after being treated twice at 168.75 g a.i./ha with 21 and 28 days of pre-harvest intervals (PHIs). Trifloxystrobin and tebuconazole presented a non-negligible chronic risk to human subjects, as evidenced by a risk quotient (RQ) value of less than 1.Keywords:trifloxystrobin and tebuconazole;paddy;residue distribution;risk assessment;dissipation dynamics

Yogurt is widely acknowledged as a healthy dairy product with unique aroma. However, the changes in the odor compounds often affect the storage and shelf life of yogurt. Besides, the complex colloidal system and low concentration levels of most of odorants make it more difficult to be analyzed. Therefore, this study extracted the odor compounds of yogurt through four extraction methods, including dynamic headspace sampling (DHS), solid phase micro-extraction (SPME), solvent-assisted flavor evaporation (SAFE), and Stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE). A total of 117 odorants, including 27 esters, 27 alcohols, 22 ketones, 16 acids, 15 aldehydes, 5 sulfides, and 5 other compounds, were identified. Of which, 31 odor-active compounds were perceived, and 12 compounds were smelled for the first time in yogurt. Of the four methods, DHS showed the most outstanding extraction effect by obtaining 88 odor compounds. Around 13 volatiles were characterized as the key odor-active compounds of yogurt. Similarly, acetophenone and butyl acrylate were detected as the key odor-active compounds of yogurt for the first time. 2,3-Butanedione was the vital odor-active compound with the highest flavor dilution (FD) factor in yogurt. The results concluded that the odor-active compounds in yogurt might have synergistic and masking effects between them.

Recently, biomass-derived fire-safe epoxy thermosets have been developed for the substitute of petroleum-derived bisphenol A epoxy thermosets due to the shortage of petroleum resources and the negative health impacts of petroleum-derived products. However, the synthesis of bio-based epoxy thermosets combining excellent mechanical properties and fire-safety performance is still a great challenge. In this paper, a novel Schiff base compound 4,4′-((1E,1′E)-((oxybis(4,1-phenylene))bis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(benzene-1,2-diol) (PH-ODA) was efficiently synthesized from bio-based protocatechualdehyde. PH-ODA was subsequently reacted with epichlorohydrin to obtain the epoxy monomer (1E,1′E)-N,N′-(oxybis(4,1-phenylene))bis(1-(3,4-bis(oxiran-2-ylmethoxy)phenyl)methanimine) (PH-ODA-EP). After curing PH-ODA-EP with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM), the cured resin PH-ODA-EP/DDM network possessed a high glass transition temperature ( T g ) of 204.9 °C and showed a 181.8%, 105.8% and 87.0% increase in char yield (in N 2 ) (41.7% vs. 14.8%), storage modulus (at 30 °C) (6.01 GPa vs. 2.92 GPa) and tensile modulus (6.21 GPa vs. 3.32 GPa), respectively, compared with the cured bisphenol A epoxy resin (DGEBA)/DDM. Moreover, PH-ODA-EP/DDM possessed excellent fire-safety properties (limited oxygen index (LOI) value = 40.5%) due to the introduction of Schiff base structure, showing a 90.9% and 72.0% reduction (compared with DGEBA/DDM) in peak heat release rate and total heat release value. This work provided a facile and sustainable route for synthesizing Schiff base compounds using biomass-derived resources, exhibiting great potential for the application in high-performance fire-safe epoxy thermosets.

Urea is one of the uremic toxins threating people’s health. Herein, we prepared a kind of urease-immobilized beads to remove urea, which exhibited good hemocompatibility and high removal efficiency. Urease was covalently grafted onto carboxyl-group-functionalized polyethersulfone beads, which were previously prepared by in situ cross-linking polymerization and phase inversion methods. The urease-immobilized beads had sufficient blood compatibility with low protein adsorption amount, undiminished clotting times, low hemolysis ratio, and suppressed complement activation and contact activation. Furthermore, the urease-immobilized beads showed good urea removal ability with a urea removal amount of 75.1 mg/g after incubating in 80 mg/dL urea solution for 480 min. In addition, the prepared urease-immobilized beads could maintain urea removal activity after being used for five cycles and showed satisfied activity even when stored for 15 days in phosphate buffer saline solution. Thus, the urease-immobilized beads may meet the potential application demand for safe and effective blood detoxification.

As drug-delivery carriers for cancer chemotherapy, gatekeeper-capped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have been widely studied due to their high drug-loading capability, controlled drug release property and good biocompatibility. However, the currently reported gatekeeper-capped MSNs suffer from complex synthetic procedures, potential toxicity of gatekeepers, unsatisfactory control on drug stimuli-release, etc. In this work, we develop a simple but efficient approach to fabricate PEGylated organosilica-capped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (POMSNs) by employing a disulfide-doped organosilica coating as the gatekeeper formed by the hydrolysis and condensation of a silane coupling agent 3-(mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) to block the mesopores of MSNs. Owing to the glutathione (GSH)-responsive biodegradation behavior of the disulfide-doped organosilica gatekeeper, the DOX-loaded POMSNs exhibit only 20% cell viability towards SMMC-7721 tumor cells, and almost no toxicity towards L-02 cells at a DOX concentration of 50 μg mL−1 was measured, demonstrating their selective cytotoxicity in vitro. More importantly, it is demonstrated that the DOX-loaded POMSNs exhibit a tumor inhibition rate of 71.3% and negligible systematic toxicity. Consequently, the resultant POMSNs show great potential as drug nanocarriers for redox-responsive drug release and passive-targeting tumor chemotherapy.

New mixtures of 3-(2-methoxyethoxy)propanenitrile, fluoroethylene carbonate and 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl ether are introduced as safe electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. The electrolytes with 30 wt% 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl ether can own high safety and better wettability to separator and electrodes than the conventional electrolyte. The oxidation potentials of these electrolytes are about 4.8 V versus Li/Li + , and their conductivity can reach 5.42 mS cm −1 at 25 °C. Graphite/LiMn 2 O 4 coin cells are used to evaluate the electrochemical performances, and this kind of safe electrolytes can exhibit better rate and cycle performances than the conventional electrolyte. These results indicate that such ternary electrolytes have a great potential for practical application.
