Phase change materials (PCMs) offer great potential for realizing zero-energy thermal management due to superior cold storage and stable phase change temperatures. However, the widespread use of PCMs is consistently impeded by issues such as liquid leakage and solid rigidity. Here, we present a simple yet effective strategy for developing highly flexible polymer-based phase change materials. Our approach involves creating a dual three-dimensional (3D) cross-linked network of acrylamide (AM) and sodium alginate (SA) within a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix. The synergy between H-bonds and AM-SA networks significantly enhances the mechanical strength, thermal stability, and leakage resistance of PVA@AM-SA. Our research offers a promising approach to designing phase change materials with both high latent heat capacity and exceptional mechanical strength, making them ideal for use in wearable thermal management applications.

An efficient visible-light-induced EDA strategy has been developed for constructing 3-difluoroalkylated quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones through the C–H difluoroalkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with fluoroalkyl bromides. This transformation could provide a series of 3-difluoroalkylated quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones in moderate to good yields under mild and metal-free conditions. Mechanistic studies revealed that the formation of the EDA complex between fluoroalkyl bromide and TMEDA was essential to initiate this transformation.

The Ce-modified OMS-2 catalyst (Ce x -OMS-2) was synthesized by the hydrothermal synthesis method, after which its catalytic efficacy in the selective reduction of NO by CO was assessed. The experiments showed that Ce 0.08 -OMS-2 was capable of 100% NO conversion between 175 and 300 °C when 0.05%NO, 0.1%CO, 5%O 2 and N 2 were used as equilibrium gases, and the N 2 selectivity peaked at 93.2% at 175 °C. Additionally, Ce 0.08 -OMS-2 exhibits good sulfur resistance in the presence of 0.02% SO 2 and maintains more than 88% NO conversion at 175–275 °C. By using BET, XPS, H 2 -TPR, NH 3 -TPD, and In situ DRIFTS to characterize the catalysts, the effects of doping the active metal Ce on the physicochemical characteristics of OMS-2 catalysts were under investigation. In conclusion, the improvement of the low-temperature activity of the Ce x -OMS-2 catalyst is facilitated by lower agglomeration and crystallinity , larger specific surface area, smaller average pore size, enhanced surface oxygen vacancies, increased Mn 4+ concentration, and richer Brønsted acid. Reaction gas adsorbed species and intermediates on the catalyst surface were dynamically captured during In situ DRIFTS experiments. The CO-SCR reaction of the catalyst was found to follow the E-R mechanism below 200 ℃ and the L-H mechanism at 200–350 ℃.

As one of the most direct methods to construct molecular scaffolds in fine chemicals, C–H bond oxidation is a hot research area in catalysis. One-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (1D-COFs) developed recently have attracted growing attention for catalytic applications owing to their unique edge microstructure. Herein, a novel crystalline 1D-COF (FZU-66) was constructed and further decorated with cobalt(II), which led to excellent heterogeneous catalytic performance in the C–H bond oxidation of ethylbenzene. In an aqueous solution at room temperature within 16 h, the conversion is nearly 100%, while the acetophenone selectivity is around 99%. More impressively, the designed single-dispersed cobalt(II)-coordinated 1D-COF (FZU-66-Co) retained good catalytic activity while maintaining high crystallinity after at least five consecutive recycling experiments. This work will prompt the application of porous polymers in the catalyzed oxidation of C–H bonds and make it an efficient and sustainable platform for activating C–H bonds of aromatic hydrocarbons.

ABSTRACT Owing to sluggish ionic mobility at low temperatures, supercapacitors , as well as other energy-storage devices, always suffer from severe capacity decay and even failure under extreme low-temperature circumstances. Solar-thermal-enabled self-heating promises an attractive approach to overcome this issue. Here, we report a unique H-bonding charge-transfer complex with a high photothermal conversion efficiency of 79.5% at 405 nm based on chloranilic acid and albendazole . Integrated with a microsupercapacitor, the chloranilic acid-albendazole complex (CAC) film prompts an apparent temperature increase of 22.7 °C under 1 sun illumination at −32.6 °C, effectively elevating the working temperature of devices. As a result, the rate capability of the microsupercapacitor has been significantly improved with a 17-fold increase in capacitance at a current density of 60 μA cm −2 , leading to outstanding low-temperature performances. Importantly, the integrated device is capable of working at a low temperature of −30 °C in the open air, which demonstrates the potential of CAC in practical applications for low-temperature ultracapacitive energy-storage devices.

This study presents the development of h-BN/PDMS composite coatings through hydroxylation treatment and modification of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) using a vinyl silane coupling agent. The study aims to address the limitations of conventional PDMS coatings, specifically their inadequate mechanical strength and poor resistance to weathering. The innovation lies in the improved dispersion of h-BN within the PDMS matrix, which was achieved via the surface grafting of vinyl groups. This approach, combined with the intrinsic layered structure and high thermal conductivity of h-BN, led to a synergistic enhancement in the mechanical performance and protective functionality of the coating. Experimental results demonstrated that incorporating 8% modified h-BN increased the tensile strength of the coating to 5.206 MPa, an improvement of 110.6% over pure PDMS, and reduced erosion depth to 2.7 μm. Furthermore, the coating exhibited minimal adhesive strength loss after UV aging (from 1.085 to 1.012 MPa). Under acidic conditions (pH = 2), the composite coating reduced the mortar strength loss by 53.1%. In seawater immersion and 25 freeze-thaw cycles, the mass loss rates of the test blocks decreased by 55.9% and 90.4%, respectively. In addition, the high UV reflectance (97.6%) and oxygen barrier properties of h-BN significantly mitigated the photo-oxidative degradation of the PDMS matrix. This study proposes a theoretical foundation and process optimization strategy for designing high-performance protective coatings suitable for use on concrete and electronic components in extreme environments.

Graphical Chemically stable Hantzsch ester is discovered to be an efficient and economical NAD(P)H mimic as sacrificial electron source in in vitro bioconversions. Biocatalysis has emerged as a valuable and reliable tool for industrial and academic societies, particularly in fields related to bioredox reactions. The cost of cofactors, especially those needed to be replenished at stoichiometric amounts or more, is the chief economic concern for bioredox reactions. In this study, a readily accessible, inexpensive, and bench-stable Hantzsch ester is verified as the viable and efficient NAD(P)H mimic by four enzymatic redox transformations, including two non-heme diiron N -oxygenases and two flavin-dependent reductases. This finding provides the potential to significantly reduce the costs of NAD(P)H-relying bioredox reactions.

Aluminum borate fibers are promising candidates for high-temperature thermal insulation owing to their excellent thermal stability, good chemical resistance, and relatively low density. Herein, we report a simple method for preparing porous Al 18 B 4 O 33 /h-BN composite fibers via electrospinning and stepwise heat treatment, using an aluminum isopropoxide/aluminum nitrate (AIP-AN) complex as the aluminum source and nanoscale h-BN as the boron source. The incorporation of h-BN not only promotes the in-situ formation of the Al 18 B 4 O 33 phase but also affects the fiber's pore structure. Meanwhile, the heterogeneous interface formed between h-BN and the Al 18 B 4 O 33 may introduce additional interfacial thermal resistance, thereby synergistically reducing thermal conductivity and improving thermal insulation performance. The resulting composite fibers exhibited a highly porous structure, with a high specific surface area of 53.9175 m 2 g −1 , a low density of 0.025 g cm −3 , and a low thermal conductivity of 0.0417 W m −1 K −1 . The porous Al 18 B 4 O 33 /h-BN composite fibers demonstrate significant potential for thermal insulation in extreme environments, offering a viable approach to developing high-performance ceramic fiber insulation materials.

Small-molecule blending is an effective strategy for improving the mechanical properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). However, the influence of structural differences among phenolics on the toughening mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we systematically investigated the reinforcing effects of three trihydroxy-phenolics (apigenin, galangin, and baicalein) on PVA hydrogels by combining molecular simulations with experimental validation. Molecular simulations predicted that H-bonding crosslinking between phenolics and PVA chains is the central reinforcement mechanism, and that the spatial arrangement of hydroxyl groups and the competition between intermolecular H-bonding ultimately determine the performance. Structural characterization and experimental validation showed that apigenin, owing to the dispersed spatial distribution of its three hydroxyl groups, exhibits stronger H-bonding crosslinking ability and achieves the most significant reinforcement. After a single freeze–thaw cycle, all trihydroxy-phenolics/PVA composite hydrogels exhibited markedly better mechanical properties than pure PVA hydrogels, with the following strength order: apigenin/PVA > galangin/PVA ≈ baicalein/PVA. This study provides a rapid and efficient theoretical model and a reference case for small-molecule toughened PVA hydrogels.

The synthesis of KA oil (a cyclohexanone-cyclohexanol mixture) from guaiacol through mild electrocatalytic approach represents a sustainable strategy for biomass valorization. Herein, we report the electrocatalytic conversion of guaiacol to KA oil over the reduced Pt/TiO 2 catalysts. The TiO 2 -induced hydrogen spillover effect facilitates strategic modulation of H ads (H*) coverage on Pt surfaces, thereby effectively suppressing competitive aromatic ring hydrogenation and excessive hydrogen evolution reactions. Comparative studies of electrocatalysis and thermocatalysis have demonstrated that Pt active sites serve as the dominant catalytic centers. However, H spillover significantly influences reactivity and selectivity, particularly in the electrocatalytic pathways. The electrocatalytic system demonstrates preferential C–O bond cleavage with KA oil selectivity around 70%. This work provides valuable insights into the regulation of metal-support interactions in the design of electrocatalysts.

In this work, a binder-free, self-supported Ni–In₂O₃ heterostructured electrode was constructed on three-dimensional Cu foam for the non-enzymatic electrochemical detection of H₂O₂ under near-neutral conditions. In₂O₃ was conformally grown on Cu foam through a solvothermal process followed by calcination, and Ni species were then introduced by electrodeposition to form a Ni-containing/In₂O₃ composite coating with close interfacial contact and a hierarchically rough surface. Owing to its reduced charge-transfer resistance and enlarged electrochemically accessible surface, the Ni–In₂O₃/Cu foam electrode exhibited a sensitive amperometric response toward H₂O₂ reduction in 0.1 M PBS (pH 7.4) at −0.60 V vs. SCE. Two linear ranges were obtained, from 0.6 μM to 1.759 mM and from 2.059 to 9.059 mM, with corresponding sensitivities of 18.492 and 9.799 μA·mM −1 ·cm −2 , respectively, and a detection limit of 0.228 μM (S/N = 3). The sensor also exhibited good anti-interference performance, acceptable repeatability and reproducibility, and stable performance over 25 days. In standard-addition analyses of milk, tap water, and fetal bovine serum, recoveries ranged from 99.3% to 104.7%, with low RSD values (0.07%–3.25%), and Student's t -test revealed no significant difference between the measured and nominal concentrations ( p > 0.05). Moreover, cytocompatibility evaluation and in situ monitoring of H₂O₂ released from PMA-stimulated cells demonstrated its potential applicability in cell-related redox analysis. These results demonstrate that the proposed Ni–In₂O₃/Cu foam electrode is a promising platform for sensitive, reliable, and practical H₂O₂ sensing under near-neutral conditions.

Precise engineering of the metal–support interaction (MSI) is paramount for manipulating the geometric and electronic structures of supported metal catalysts, yet tailoring the local anchoring microenvironment at the atomic level remains a challenge. This study demonstrates how modulating the hydroxyl chemistry on CeO2 can direct the MSI to stabilize distinct Pd species─from single atoms to subnanometric PdOx ensembles. We show that conventional terminal hydroxyl groups on CeO2 favor the anchoring of Pd single atoms, whereas engineered bridging hydroxyl nests effectively confine undercoordinated PdOx clusters. This PdOx ensemble results in a moderate 4d orbital occupancy of Pd sites, which optimizes the σ-electron-acceptance and back-donation processes critical for C–H bond activation. Consequently, the PdOx ensemble catalyst achieves a dramatic decrease in methane combustion temperatures (T50 and T90 values are 340 and 402 °C, lowered by 175 and 226 °C, respectively) compared to the single-atom counterpart, alongside exceptional stability and water resistance under practical conditions. This work establishes the engineering of the support’s hydroxyl microenvironment as a powerful strategy for designing highly efficient metal ensemble catalysts.
