As one class of important functional materials, transition metal phosphides (TMPs) nanostructures show promising applications in catalysis and energy storage fields. Although great progress has been achieved, phase-controlled synthesis of cobalt phosphides nanocrystals or related nanohybrids remains a challenge, and their use in overall water splitting (OWS) is not systematically studied. Herein, three kinds of cobalt phosphides nanocrystals encapsulated by P-doped carbon (PC) and married with P-doped graphene (PG) nanohybrids, including CoP@PC/PG, CoP-Co 2 P@PC/PG, and Co 2 P@PC/PG, are obtained through controllable thermal conversion of presynthesized supramolecular gels that contain cobalt salt, phytic acid, and graphene oxides at proper temperature under Ar/H 2 atmosphere. Among them, the mixed-phase CoP-Co 2 P@PC/PG nanohybrids manifest high electrocatalytic activity toward both hydrogen and oxygen evolution in alkaline media. Remarkably, using them as bifunctional catalysts, the fabricated CoP-Co 2 P@PC/PG || CoP-Co 2 P@PC/PG electrolyzer only needs a cell voltage of 1.567 V for driving OWS to reach the current density at 10 mA cm −2 , superior to their pure-phase counterparts and recently reported bifunctional catalysts based devices. Also, such a CoP-Co 2 P@PC/PG || CoP-Co 2 P@PC/PG device exhibits outstanding stability for OWS. This work may shed some light on optimizing TMPs nanostructures based on phase engineering, and promote their applications in OWS or other renewable energy options.

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) attract widespread attention as promising energy storage devices owing to their superior energy density, excellent cycle life, and absence of memory effect. However, they still encounter challenges in high-rate performance and structural stability, necessitating further optimization. This study focuses on a composite anode material constructed from black phosphorus (BP), tungsten disulfide (WS 2 ), and ultra-high-purity whisker carbon nanotubes (UWCNTs) (BP-WS 2 -UWCNTs). The research investigates the regulatory effects of phosphorus–carbon (P–C) and phosphorus–sulfur (P–S) bonds at the material interface on electrochemical performance. Characterization indicates the establishment of P–C and P–S bonds at the composite interface, which enhance structural integrity and improve electron/ion transport capabilities. Electrochemical performance evaluations validate the combined effect of these interfacial bonds: at 2.0 A g −1 , the BP-WS 2 -UWCNTs anode delivers 605.8 mAh g −1 for 2000 cycles, and retains 252.2 mAh g −1 after 3000 cycles even at 15.0 A g −1 , exhibiting remarkable rate performance and prolonged cycling durability. In practical applications of LIBs, the composite anode maintains robust structural integrity and outstanding electrochemical performance. This work highlights that the combined effect of interfacial P–C and P–S chemical linkages effectively facilitates lithium-ion diffusion and stabilizes the electrode structure, offering valuable insights and viable strategies for advancing high-capacity anode design in LIBs.

Self-assembled molecules are widely used as bottom interfacial layers in inverted perovskite solar cells, yet their application to perovskite top surfaces remains poorly understood. Here, we develop two self-assembled molecules for perovskite surface modification and interfacial optimization with the hole transport layer. Through solvent engineering, ordered and uniform molecular packing is achieved on the perovskite surface. These molecules optimize surface energetics and promote efficient hole transfer when coupled with a homologous hole transport layer. Their large molecular dipoles tune interfacial energy alignment and reduce energetic offsets, thereby accelerating charge extraction from the perovskite layer. This dipole-driven interfacial modulation is effective in both normal and inverted device architectures. As a result, a power conversion efficiency of 26.18% (certified 26.23%) is achieved in normal-structure devices, together with improved operational stability under maximum power point tracking. This work establishes a viable strategy for perovskite surface engineering using self-assembled molecules.

Calixarene is a third-generation supra-molecular compound and has broad application prospects in clinical disease diagnosis and intervention treatment. Calixarene/surfactant systems have received increasing attention recently because the properties of these systems can be customized. However, very little is currently known about the binding of calixarene and calixarene/surfactant systems to proteins and the effects of calixarene and calixarene/surfactant systems on protein activity. In this study, we studied the binding of sulfonatocalix[n]arene (SC[n], n = 4, 6 and 8) with bromelain (BM) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) both in the absence and presence of sulfobetaine surfactant (N-dodecyl-N,N-dimethyl-3-ammonio-1-propanesulfonate (SDDAB)) using various techniques, including protein activity measurements, molecular simulation, and fluorescence, UV–Vis, 1 H NMR, and circular dichroism spectroscopies. We found that SC[n] entered the docking pocket of the proteins in a stoichiometric molar ratio of 1:1, whereas the proteins did not enter the cavity of SC[n]. In addition, SC[n] formed a stronger bond with BM than with PPO. SC[n] decreased the activities of the proteins, where the activity of BM was inhibited to a greater extent than that of PPO. SC[n] and SDDAB formed complexes. The proteins did not destroy the binding between SC[n] and SDDAB but bonded with the SC[n]/SDDAB complex instead by interacting with SDDAB. Moreover, the protein activities could be controlled by the molar ratio of SC[n] to the surfactant: a lower ratio corresponded to higher activity.

Based on the ever-growing interest of heteroatoms (e.g., P, N, S, transition metals) doping into molybdenum carbide and graphene for electrochemical reactions , herein, a ternary phosphomolybdic acid-polyethyleneimine/graphene oxide nanocomposite as a suitable precursor was developed to not only uniformly hybridize molybdenum and carbon source to perform the controllable in situ growth of well-defined molybdenum carbide nanostructure on graphene by annealing, but also synchronously dope N and P atoms into molybdenum carbide crystal lattice and graphene. The as-prepared hybrid showed remarkable electrocatalytic activity and high stability for hydrogen evolution reaction in basic media, due to the following favorable features, i.e. a large accessible active sites afforded by the ultrafine molybdenum carbide, the heteroatoms doped, the regulated electronic structure, the balanced thermodynamics between hydrogen adsorption and desorption , the accelerated charge/mass transfer ability by the ultrathin and defective carbon layer , and the protection of molybdenum carbide by carbon layer. As a result, it only needed a small overpotential of 47 mV to drive 10 mA cm −2 and a low onset potential of 10 mV, as well as a small Tafel slope of 56.8 mV·dec −1 , thus suggesting its promising potential for hydrogen evolution electrocatalyst .

Heterogeneous electrocatalysis usually involves the charge transfer between the surface of electrocatalysts and corresponding reactants. Thus, modulating the surface electron density of electrocatalysts is an effective strategy to boost the electrocatalytic activity of targeted reactions. Herein, the NiSe 2 /FeSe 2 p-p heterojunction is constructed via a simple selenization method for both oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and urea oxidation reaction (UOR). The designed NiSe 2 /FeSe 2 electrocatalyst exhibits a superior activity towards OER, which only requires a low overpotential of 256 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm −2 , and surpasses other selenides and even the state-of-the-art RuO 2 . Impressively, when employed as the UOR electrode, the NiSe 2 /FeSe 2 heterojunction needs only 127 mV overpotential at 50 mA cm -2 , remarkably superior to other selenides and confirming the less energy consumption for UOR. The comprehensive analysis demonstrates that the well-designed built-in electric field at the heterointerface of NiSe 2 /FeSe 2 p-p heterojunction due to the difference of energy levels can expedite the charge transfer and thus strengthen the conductivity of heterojunction electrocatalyst. Moreover, the self-driven electron transfer across the NiSe 2 /FeSe 2 heterointerface can induce local charge redistribution at the interface region, which is beneficial for the adsorption of OH − and urea owing to the electrostatic interaction. Therefore, the designed NiSe 2 /FeSe 2 p-p heterojunction with regulated electronic structure displays extraordinary electrocatalytic activity for both the OER and UOR. This study demonstrates a novel strategy to manipulate the surface/interface charge states of electrocatalysts for improving the catalytic activity of OER and UOR, and provides new guidelines for exploring other superior electrocatalysts.

In this article, we propose a method of recovering p-MePhSO3K from the industrial by-product of quizalofop-p-ethyl. The phase diagram of the solid–liquid equilibrium system of p-MePhSO3K2CO3–H2O at the temperatures of 15, 25, 35, 45, and 55 °C was determined and plotted. Based on the phase diagram of 25 °C, the separation and recovery process of p-MePhSO3K from the p-MePhSO3K2CO3–H2O system was designed by analyzing the crystallization fields. First, p-MePhSO3K and K2CO3 were crystallized from wastewater in turn through evaporation separation. Then, the crystallized p-MePhSO3K was purified further by washing with ethanol. Finally, the pure p-MePhSO3K was transformed into the intermediate p-toluenesulfonyl chloride and then the intermediate l-p-toluenesulfonate ethyl lactate for quizalofop-p-ethyl production.

A simple wet-explosion method was employed to synthesize the Ni–Bi–P composite microspheres. The hollow structure was obtained possibly due to the violent evolution of gas bubbles when the reaction reagents were mixed. The hollow microspheres of Ni–Bi–P exhibited outstanding high catalytic activity for the reduction of p -nitrophenol ( p -NP) to form p -aminophenol in the presence of NaBH 4 within only 1 s. Due to the space limitation, the hollow structure of Ni–Bi–P microspheres helps to accommodate and confine the molecules of NaBH 4 and p -NP within the small space where NaBH 4 and p -NP contact closely at Ni–Bi–P catalysts. The synergetic action of Ni, Bi and P elements also contributes the enhanced catalytic activity.

3-Amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole (Trp-P-1) is a group 2B carcinogen characterized by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and great efforts have been taken to reduce Trp-P-1 mutagenicity to humans. In this study, the effect of a reduction of Trp-P-1 on intestinal absorption as a promising strategy was investigated. The data showed that when 20 mM Trp-P-1 cotransported with 10 mM of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), xanthan gum, or carrageenan, the absorption rate of Trp-P-1 was reduced by 31.5%, 49.5%, or 72.9% in MDCK-MDR1 cell monolayer, respectively; and 64.6%, 83.4%, or 64.1% in rat intestinal tissues, correspondingly. These 3 polysaccharides also reduced pharmacokinetic parameters, that is, C max , AUC 0-t , and AUC 0-∞ , after Trp-P-1 was given to rats intragastrically. However, gum arabic did not exhibit similar effects on Trp-P-1 absorption in vitro or in vivo . The Ames test showed that these 3 polysaccharides reduced Trp-P-1 mutagenicity to Salmonella typhimurium TA98, but gum arabic did not. Isothermal titration calorimetry assay indicated that Trp-P-1 interacted with these 3 polysaccharides. Thermodynamic study showed that the actual value of △ H <0, but its absolute value greater than the corresponding value of T∆S, suggest a specific interaction between Trp-P-1 and these 3 polysaccharides, probably through the hydrogen bond and/or ion interaction. Reduction of Trp-P-1 intestinal absorption using food additives could be one of the strategies to suppress Trp-P-1-induced carcinogenesis in human. Practical Application 1. This study provides insightful information for the food industry how gum arabic, xanthan gum, kappa carrageenan, and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose affect the absorption of Trp-P-1. 2. This study also provides novel information regarding a better formulation for meat products to reduce Trp-P-1 absorption.

Photocatalytic selective oxidation of p -xylene with O 2 offers a mild pathway to synthesize p -methyl benzaldehyde ( p -MBA), which is one of the primary precursors in the manufacture of fine chemicals. Here, we report that Au/WO x /TiO 2 photocatalyst selectively catalyzes the oxidation of p -xylene to p -MBA with 88.6% selectivity at 1.0% conversion, the formation of CO x is suppressed to 0.8%. Kinetic experiments indicate that p -methylbenzyl alcohol and p -MBA are initial products. p -Methylbenzyl alcohol is further oxidized to form p -MBA, p -methylbenzyl acid and CO x ; p -MBA is further oxidized to p -methylbenzyl acid and CO x . On TiO 2 surface, p -methylbenzyl alcohol is more prone to directly combust to CO x by O 2 – . Loading of WO x can weaken the adsorption ability of p -methylbenzyl alcohol on the catalyst surface to avoid the combustion. Meanwhile, WO x and Au can facilitate the separation of photo-generated carriers to attain high activity and suppress the O 2 – formation to obtain high selectivity.

Electroplating crystalline cobalt–phosphorus (Co–P, with 1 ~ 8 at.% P) is a potential interfacial layer for electronic packaging solder joints, however, the optimal content of P has been lack of systematic research. In this work, crystalline Co–P coatings with P contents of 2, 4 and 6 at.% (Co–2P, Co–4P, Co–6P) were prepared and then bonded with Sn–Ag solder to form Cu/Co– x P/Sn–Ag solder joints. Within aging at 180 °C for 120 h, the diffusion resistance and intermetallic ductility of crystalline Co–P coatings with different P contents were systematically studied. The microstructure, phase composition and mechanical properties of Co–Sn intermetallic compounds (IMCs) were comprehensively characterized using XRD, SEM, EBSD and nano-indentation techniques. The XRD results showed that the Co–P coatings were crystalline structure, with obvious sharp diffraction peaks of β-Co. The Co–4P system exhibited the slowest IMCs growth rate and the best diffusion resistance was obtained in this system, and the kinetic analysis showed that the Co–Sn IMCs growth at the interface was controlled by interface reaction and volume diffusion. It was found that CoSn 3 was generated in the three systems during the aging process, while CoSn 4 and Co–Sn–P were generated only in Co–6P system. Compared with Ni–Sn, Co–Sn exhibited significantly lower IMCs hardness, so the brittle fracture tendency of Co–P solder joints was lower. With the increase of P content, the hardness of Co–Sn IMCs increased first and then decreased, ranging from 3.20 to 4.94 GPa, and the minimum value was noticed in the Co–6P system. Co–4P coating would be a promising barrier layer owing to its good diffusion resistance, Co–6P coating may be used in solder joints with high mechanical load owing to its lowest IMCs hardness, and the Co–2P coating can maintain a balance in anti-diffusion and mechanical properties.

A non-noble-metal hybrid catalyst (Ni2P/NPC-P), composed of N,P-doped porous carbon decorated with surface P-enriched Ni2P nanoparticles, is developed to address the urgent challenges associated with mass production of clean hydrogen fuel. The synthesis features one-pot pyrolysis of inexpensive fluid catalytic cracking slurry, graphitic carbon nitride, and inorganic salts, followed by a feasible surface phosphidation process. As a non-noble metal catalyst, Ni2P/NPC-P demonstrates excellent performance in hydrogen evolution reaction in alkaline electrolytes with a low overpotential of 73 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm–2 (η10) and a small Tafel slope of 56 mV dec–1, meanwhile exhibits durability with no significant η10 change after 2000 catalytic cycles. Theoretical calculation reveals that the negatively charged P-enriched surface accelerated the rate-determining transformation and desorption of OH*. In overall water splitting, the electrocatalyst achieves a low η10 of 1.633 V, promising its potential in the cost-effective mass production of hydrogen fuel.
