This study reports the synthesis and application of a flower-like chiral metal-organic framework (CMOF) based on copper ions and tryptophan (Cu(Trp)-CMOF). The Cu(Trp)-CMOF was successfully synthesized at room temperature through a facile method with hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as a structure-directing agent. The material exhibits a flower-like morphology with hierarchical porosity and well-defined crystallinity in the monoclinic P2 1 /c space group. Comprehensive characterization revealed that different optical configurations ((R)-type, (S)-type, and (RS)-type) could be selectively obtained by controlling the chirality of tryptophan ligands. The synthesized CMOFs demonstrated excellent performance in two key applications: colorimetric recognition of amino acid enantiomers and separation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). When used as a chromatographic stationary phase, the CMOF significantly enhanced the separation of challenging structural isomers, particularly improving the resolution (R S ) of xylene isomers (R S from 1.03 to 2.62) and ethyltoluene isomers (R S from 4.83 to 9.23) compared to conventional columns. This work provides new insights into the design and application of CMOFs for chiral separation and recognition.

In this study, we found the inhibitory effect of d -Tryptophan ( d -Trp) on the bacterial growth and spoilage potential of P. fluorescens and S. baltica . The effectiveness of d -Trp in bacterial growth inhibition was highly dependent on environmental NaCl concentrations. The growth/no growth models were developed to clarify the relationship between salt and d -Trp concentrations for optimal growth-inhibitory effect. It showed that higher levels of NaCl (>3.5%) with d -Trp (>15 mM) are required for growth inhibition. The d -Trp treatment combined with NaCl also retarded the psychrotrophic growth and reduced the respiratory active bacteria at low temperature, indicating that the inhibitory effect of d -Trp might be associated with the tolerance to osmotic and cold stress. Furthermore, the treatment d -Trp combined NaCl (artificial seawater) on salmon fillets was investigated. During refrigerated storage, the d -Trp treated salmon fillet either inoculated with S. baltica or P. fluorescen maintained remained a relatively low level of total volatile basic nitrogen (TVBN) (below 30 mg N/100 g during 8-days storage) and delayed increase of low total viable bacteria counts (TVC) with a longer lag phase of 2 days.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) nanosheets , as graphene-like ultrathin semiconductor material, have strong covalent bonds between carbon and nitride atoms. The nitrogen atoms doping in the carbon architecture that greatly enhancing electrical properties and accelerating the electrontransfer rate, which can improve the electrical properties of g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets . Herein, a novel electrochemical sensor was developed by immobilizing a three-dimensional (3D) hybrid nanocomposite which consisted of one-dimensional (1D) multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and two-dimensional (2D) g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets on a glassy carbon electrode (g-C 3 N 4 /MWNTs/GCE). The g-C 3 N 4 /MWNTs/GCE exhibited excellent response toward the oxidation reactions of dopamine (DA), uric acid (UA) and tryptophan (Trp). Under the optimum conditions, the electrochemical sensor was used in the detection of DA, UA and Trp, and achieved wide ranges of 2.0–43.5 μM, 5.0–189.0 μM and 65.0–1815.0 μM with low detection limits (S/N = 3) of 5.0 × 10 − 8 M, 5.0 × 10 − 7 M and 1.0 × 10 − 6 M, respectively. In addition, the coexistence of ascorbic acid (AA) has no obvious interference toward the detection of DA, UA and Trp. Thus, the modified electrodes were successfully applied for the determination of DA, UA and Trp in urine and serum samples using the standard adding method with satisfactory results.

In this work, carbon nano-onions (CNOs) with particle sizes of 5–10 nm were prepared by the multi-potential step method. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy characterize the effective synthesis of CNOs. CNOs/GCEs were prepared by depositing the prepared CNOs onto glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) by a drop-coating method. Examination of the electrocatalytic activity of the CNOs/GCE sensor by simultaneously detecting dopamine (DA), uric acid (UA), L-tryptophan (Trp) and theophylline (TP) using a differential pulse voltammetry technique. The results showed that the linear ranges of DA, UA, Trp and TP were DA 0.01–38.16 μM, UA 0.06–68.16 μM, Trp 1.00–108.25 μM, and TP 8.16–108.25 μM, and the detection limits (S/N = 3) were 0.0039 μM, 0.0087 μM, 0.18 μM and 0.35 μM, respectively. The CNOS/GCE sensor had good stability and could be used for the detection of actual samples. Keywords:carbon nano-onions;electrochemical sensing;glassy carbon electrode;theophylline;uric acid;L-tryptophan;dopamine

An electrochemical chiral sensing platform based on amino-functionalized graphene quantum dots/β-cyclodextrin modified glassy carbon electrode (NH 2 -GQDs/β-CD/GCE) was developed for enantioselective detection of tryptophan (Trp) isomers. NH 2 -GQDs/β-CD/GCE showed high electrocatalytic activity and good analytical behavior toward the oxidation of Trp isomers. The oxidation peak potentials and oxidation peak currents of Trp isomers at NH 2 -GQDs/β-CD/GCE surface were observed by differential pulse voltammetry. NH 2 -GQDs/β-CD nanocomposite exhibited different binding ability for two Trp isomers and selectively bonded with d -Trp, resulting in the higher oxidation peak current of d -Trp at NH 2 -GQDs/β-CD/GCE surface. Trp isomers exhibited different oxidation peak potentials at NH 2 -GQDs/β-CD/GCE surface, and the peak potential separation between l -Trp and d -Trp was around 0.022 V, which was used for the enantioselective detection of Trp isomers. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the oxidation peak currents were linearly dependent on the concentrations of Trp isomers. The linear ranges of l -Trp and d -Trp were all from 1.0 to 30.0 μM with correlation coefficients of 0.9886 and 0.9800, respectively. The detection limits of l -Trp and d -Trp were 0.65 and 0.12 μM (3 σ / K ), respectively. Such NH 2 -GQDs/β-CD/GCE displayed high anti-interference against some physiological substances, good reproducibility and excellent long-term stability toward Trp isomers detection in biomedical applications.

Nonylphenol (NP) is a ubiquitous endocrine disruptor that persists in the environment and can significantly contribute to serious health hazards, particularly intestinal barrier injury. Plant essential oils (EOs) have recently gained widespread interest due to their potential for improving intestinal health. However, the precise mechanism and protective effects of EOs ameliorating the intestinal damages induced by NP exposure remain unclear. To clarify the potential mechanism and protective impact of EOs against intestinal injury induced by NP, a total of 144 one-day-old male ducks were randomly allocated to four groups: CON (basal diet), EO (basal diet + 200 mg/kg EOs), NP (basal diet + 40 mg/kg NP), and NPEO (basal diet + 200 mg/kg EOs + 40 mg/kg NP). The data revealed that NP exposure significantly damaged intestinal barrier, as evidenced by a reduction in the levels of tight junction gene expression and an increase in intestinal permeability. Additionally, it disturbed gut microbiota, as well as interfered with tryptophan (Trp) metabolism. The NP-induced disorder of Trp metabolism restrained the activation of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and resulted in decreased the expression levels of CYP1A1 , IL-22 , and STAT3 genes, which were alleviated after treatment with EOs. Taken together, NP exposure resulted in impairment of the intestinal barrier function, disruption of gut microbiota, and disturbances in Trp metabolism. Dietary EOs supplementation alleviated the intestinal barrier injury induced by NP through the Trp/AhR/IL-22 signaling pathway.

We describe a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with a film composed of Nafion and TiO 2 -graphene (TiO 2 -GR) nanocomposite, and its voltammetric response to the amino acids L-tryptophane (Trp) and L-tyrosine (Tyr). The incorporation of TiO 2 nanoparticles with graphene significantly improves the electrocatalytic activity and voltammetric response compared to electrodes modified with Nafion/graphene only. The Nafion/TiO 2 -GR modified electrode was used to determine Trp and Tyr with detection limits of 0.7 and 2.3 μM, and a sensitivity of 75.9 and 22.8 μA mM −1 for Trp and Tyr, respectively.
The electrochemical sensor based on Nafion/TiO 2 -GR composite film modified GCE was presented. The integration of TiO 2 nanoparticles with graphene provides an efficient microenvironment to promote the electrochemical reaction of amino acids Trp and Tyr. The fabricated electrochemical sensor exhibits favorable analytical performance for Trp and Tyr, with high sensitivity, low detection limit and good reproducibility.

Bacterial biofilm often exists in non-healing wounds, and if it cannot be removed promptly, further complications will occur. Bioactive biodegradable wound dressings with the ability to kill bacteria, eliminate biofilms and prevent infections are expected to solve this problem. This study reports the development of a new l -tryptophan and l -phenylalanine-based poly(ester urea)s which aims at fabricating electrospun composite mat with nitric oxide releasing capability for infected wound treatment. The designed l -tryptophan and l -phenylalanine based poly(ester urea)s owned adjustable degradability and good biocompatibility , indicating it could be an ideal biomaterial for wound repair. The electrospun mat was an ideal cargo for steady and continuous delivery with a total concentration of 0.8 μmol/L of NO. The mats showed obvious advantages in killing the bacteria and destructing biofilms. Such electrospun mats could promote proliferation and improve collagen deposition as well as accelerate wound healing. It suggests that the fabric mats can act as a suitable candidate in infected-wound care applications.

Monocrotaline (MCT) is a toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloid found in plants of the Crotalaria genus. As primary pollinators of Crotalaria plants, honeybees come into contact with this harmful substance. However, limited research has been conducted on the effects of MCT on Apis mellifera , particularly the risks of long-term exposure to sublethal concentrations. Through evaluating the proboscis extension reflex (PER) ability, analyzing the honeybee brain transcriptome, and analyzing the honeybee hemolymph metabolome, we discovered that sublethal concentrations of MCT impair the olfactory and memory capabilities of honeybees by affecting tryptophan (Trp) metabolism. Furthermore, MCT upregulates the expression of the corazonin receptor ( CrzR ) gene in the honeybee brain, which elevates reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in the brain while reducing glucose levels in the hemolymph, consequently shortening the honeybees' lifespan. Our findings regarding the multifaceted impact of MCT on honeybees lay the foundation for exploring its toxicological pathways and management in honeybee populations.

Tantalum oxide has emerged as an important electrode material for supercapacitors due to its multiple redox capabilities, high capacitance and structural stability, but the low electrical conductivity prevents its practical applications. This study reports the synthesis of Co- and V-doped Ta1.1O1.05 using tryptophan- and aspartic-acid-functionalized boron-doped graphene quantum dots (DWB-GQD). Ta5+, V5+ and Co3+ were combined with DWB-GQD to form water-soluble complexes. The complex was then soaked in cotton, dried and annealed at 850 °C in an N2 atmosphere. The resulting Ta1.1O1.05 nanocrystals showed a cube-like nanostructure. The self-doping of low-valent Ta, V and Co species induced the production of oxygen vacancies. The presence of oxygen vacancies narrowed the bandgap and created new electron transfer pathways. The graphene surface modification accelerated the electron transfer from Ta1.1O1.05 to graphene and improved the structural stability. The unique structure significantly improved the conductivity and led to a wide safe voltage window of 1.9 V. The symmetrical supercapacitor with Co/V–Ta1.1O1.05@DWB-GQD electrodes and a 1 M Li2SO4/PVA gel electrolyte exhibited high specific capacitance (560.9 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1), high-rate capacitance (365.55 F g−1 at a current density of 10 A g−1), cycling stability (99.5% capacitance retention over 10 000 cycles), and energy density (140.63 W h kg−1 at a power density of 475 W kg−1). Based on these results, the soft supercapacitor shows a wide application prospect in wearable electronic devices.

Abstract Hydrate-based separation is an effective method for CH4 recovery from low-concentration coalbed methane. The hydrate separation performance, such as the generation rate and the efficiency of separation and purification, is influenced by kinetic promoters. In this work, a dual-promoter system consisting of l-tryptophan (l-Trp) and PCN-250-Fe2Co was developed to enhance hydrate-based CH4 separation. l-Trp regulates the gas–liquid interfacial microenvironment through its amphiphilic structure, suppressing compact ice crystal nucleation and enhancing CH4 diffusive transport across the interface. Meanwhile, the high specific surface area and abundant microporous structure of PCN-250-Fe2Co provide numerous heterogeneous nucleation sites for CH4, shorten the CH4 diffusion distance, and significantly enhance the mass transfer within the liquid phase. As a result, the optimized system containing 0.5 wt % l-Trp and 0.1 wt % PCN-250-Fe2Co framework achieved a CH4 recovery of 86.64%. This value is 11.46% and 5.02% higher than those obtained with PCN-250-Fe2Co alone and l-Trp alone, respectively. This significant enhancement is attributable to the synergistic interplay between the carboxylate anchors of l-Trp and the metal sites of PCN-250-Fe2Co, which simultaneously facilitate CH4 capture and mitigate mass-transfer resistance for CH4. Theoretical analysis further showed that the CH4/N2 selective adsorption ratio of the l-Trp&PCN-250-Fe2Co system (44.932) was 16.6% higher than that of the PCN-250-Fe2Co system (38.523). Overall, the l-Trp&PCN-250-Fe2Co composite system exhibits promising potential for hydrate-based CH4 separation and purification from low-concentration coalbed methane, providing a new method for hydrate-based gas separation.

Developing a high-efficient and low-cost nanocomposite, featured by abundant active sites with excellent transfer ability for electrons and high conductivity, for the simultaneous detection of biomolecules belonging to different systems is critically important and challenged. Herein, a nanocomposite composed of ferroferric oxide nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 ) functionalized polyoxometalates (H 6 PMo 9 V 3 O 40 ·nH 2 O) was synthesized, using one-step hydrothermal doped method. It exhibited high electrocatalytic activity for oxidation of β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and l -tryptophan ( l -trp) with well separated signals (Δ =180 mV) between them coming from the combination of PMoV and Fe 3 O 4 . The PMoV@Fe 3 O 4 /GCE-based sensor exhibited outstanding sensing capability for NADH and l -trp simultaneously with low detection limit of 53 nM and 17 nM, respectively, and excellent selectivity over various possible interfering species, which originated from the synergistic effect of PMoV and Fe 3 O 4 . Moreover, the practical application potential of the PMoV@Fe 3 O 4 sensor was successfully demonstrated by determining NADH and l -trp in real samples.
