Catalytic fast pyrolysis (CFP) of lignin aiming monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (MAHs) is attractive. Five metal oxide catalysts (named c-Nb 3 Al x ) with different Nb/Al ratios, c-Nb, c-Al, c-Nb 3 Al 1 , c-Nb 3 Al 2 and c-Nb 3 Al 3 were synthesized and applied to CFP of lignin. Among these catalysts, c-Nb 3 Al 2 exhibits excellent deoxygenation ability and the highest selectivity for MAHs (77.0 %). The selectivity and deoxygenation capacity of c-Nb 3 Al 2 for MAHs were higher than H-ZSM-5 (25) as a control. It was attributed to the large external surface area (90 m 2 g -1 ), mesoporous structure (16.15 nm) and high acid amount (2.00 mmol NH 3 /g cat ) of c-Nb 3 Al 2 . The c-Nb 3 Al 2 has good stability and can be regenerated by simple calcination . The selectivity of the regenerated c-Nb 3 Al 2 for MAHs was still high at 70.1 %. Guaiacol was used to compare the difference in the deoxygenation capacity of c-Nb 3 Al 2 and H-ZSM-5.

A simple, rapid, and reliable method for detecting harmful gases is urgently required in environmental security fields. In this study, a highly effective cataluminescence sensor based on SiO 2 /MIL-53(Al) composites was developed to detect trace isobutylaldehyde. The sensor was designed using isobutylaldehyde to generate an interesting cataluminescence phenomenon in SiO 2 /MIL-53(Al). Under optimized conditions, a positive linear relationship was observed between the signal intensity of the cataluminescence and isobutylaldehyde concentration. The isobutylaldehyde concentration range of 1.55–310 ppm responded well to the sensing test, with an excellent correlation coefficient of 0.9996. The minimum detectable concentration signal-to-noise ratio ( S/N = 3) was found to be 0.49 ppm. In addition, the sensor was effectively utilized for analyzing trace isobutylaldehyde; the analysis resulted in recoveries ranging from 83.4% to 105%, with relative standard deviations ( RSDs ) of 4.8% to 9.4%. Furthermore, the mechanism of cataluminescence between SiO 2 /MIL-53(Al) and isobutylaldehyde was explored using GC–MS analysis and density functional theory. We expect that this cataluminescence methodology will provide an approach for the environmental monitoring of isobutylaldehyde.

The all-in-one design of cathode and anode is a promising strategy to improve energy density and assembly efficiency for lithium batteries. However, it is an important prerequisite to combine negative and positive current collectors in a single sheet. Here, an asymmetric structure of bipolar composite current collector (BCCC), thin copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al) metal layers respectively deposited on each side of a thin polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer substrate is developed. Unlike conventional metal foils, the electronically insulative polymer blocks electron transfer between the cathode and anode coated on each side of BCCC. Buckling-based mechanics measurement and molecular simulation are conducted to quantitatively evaluate the interfacial strength of metal/polymer, which is enhanced by introducing an intermediate chromium (Cr) layer. For applications in anode-free wound batteries, the integrated sheet of separator/cathode/BCCC can simplify the alignment of the electrodes during the winding process. Without special surface and electrolyte optimizations, a higher Coulombic efficiency (99.1%) and larger capacity retention (50.0%) are achieved after 100 cycles in the LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 anode-free battery than the battery using Cu foils.

This study developed a novel fluoride ion adsorbent material (Al/La-A) for efficient removal of fluoride ions in water. The crystal structure, elemental composition, surface morphology, specific surface area, thermal stability and surface electronegativity before and after modification were explored using FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM-EDS, BET, TG-DSC, and zeta potential measurements. Results showed that the fluoride ion adsorption capacity of Al/La-A reached 130.42 mg/g, with the surface area increasing from 65.66 m 2 /g to 111.68 m 2 /g, respectively, compared to unmodified attapulgite. Al/La-A maintained excellent fluoride ion removal performance over a wide pH range, with the best adsorption at pH 2. Coexisting ion experiments indicated weak competitive adsorption effects of Cl - , SO 4 2- , and HCO 3 – , with fluoride ion adsorption remaining above 100 mg/g in the presence of different concentrations of coexisting anions. After 5 adsorption–desorption cycles, Al/La-A exhibited strong adsorption capacity and reusability. The fitting of Langmuir adsorption model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model to the adsorption of fluoride ions on Al/La-A indicated that the adsorption of fluoride ions on Al/La-A was primarily monolayer chemical adsorption. The adsorption mechanism of fluoride ions involved electrostatic interactions, ion exchange, and coordination complexation. This study provides a new research approach for the optimal utilization of attapulgite-based adsorbent materials and the efficient removal of fluoride-containing wastewater.

Quercetin (Qr) is a common flavonoid widely found in plants with promising pharmacological activities. It is thus worthwhile to design a convenient method for its detection. In this work, a specific Al 3+ -regulated poly(cyclotriphosphazene- co -curcumin) (PC-Al) micro-probe was designed for real-time detection of Qr, therein significant “turn-on” fluorescence was observed after addition of Qr to PC-Al. Under optimal conditions, the probe has a detection limit of 23.2 nM for Qr sensing with good linearity in the range of 0–5 × 10 −5 M. Moreover, real-time applications of the PC-Al probe in red wine, orange juice, and honey samples were validated. Furthermore, assisted by a consumer smartphone sensing platform, the sensor shows an excellent linear response between the red/blue ratio (R/B) of the two color channels in the picture and the concentration of Qr in the range of 1–120 μM, achieving quantitative detection of Qr. The introduction of smartphone system to realize convenient detection of Qr demonstrates good application prospects of this Al 3+ -mediated fluorescence probe.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been widely studied as a photocatalyst owing to its advantages of low cost, good stability, and nonpollution. However, they can only be excited by ultraviolet light, resulting in low utilization of solar energy and limited photocatalytic efficiency. In recent years, researchers have found that the nonprecious metal Al can effectively improve the photocatalytic performance of TiO2. However, the current studies focus only on enhancing the ultraviolet photocatalysis performance of semiconductors with Al on the substrate. In this study, Al nanoparticles (NPs) and TiO2 were prepared into composite materials. The effects of ligand, Al particle size, and the molar ratio of Al and TiO2 on the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) by Al NPs and TiO2 composites (Al NPs/TiO2) were investigated. The results showed that the Al NPs/TiO2 prepared with a particle size of 200 nm of Al, glutathione as the ligand bridge, and an Al:TiO2 ratio of 2:1 were the most effective for the degradation of MB. The degradation rate of 5 mg/L MB solution within 70 min under visible light was up to 99.5%, which was three times higher than that of P25 TiO2. The photocatalytic performance was further enhanced under sunlight with a degradation rate of 99.7% within 50 min, which is four times higher than that of P25 TiO2 under the same light source. Therefore, Al NPs/TiO2 is a potential photocatalytic material for the treatment of organic pollutants in water.

By utilizing the advantages of easy film-forming properties and high fluoride content of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), vacuum spin-coating technology was used to prepare PVDF@Al/CuO self-supporting energetic film with different PVDF addition amounts. The films such as PVDF_2@Al/CuO, PVDF_4@Al/CuO, PVDF_6@Al/CuO, and PVDF_8@Al/CuO were obtained with different coating layers. The composition, structure, morphology, and hydrophobicity of the samples were studied using x-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and contact angle measurement equipment. The combustion behavior and heat release performance of PVDF@Al/CuO energetic thin films were investigated by high-speed cameras and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technology. The results showed that the surface of PVDF@Al/CuO energetic thin film is the smoothest, most even, and self-supporting when the PVDF content was 8%. The static contact angle on the left side of the energetic film is 103.7°, and the static contact angle on the right side is 104.1°, indicating a certain degree of hydrophobicity. Additionally, the PVDF_8@Al/The CuO film with 7 coating layer burns violently, releasing a heat of 5890 J g −1 with over pressure of 559 KPa. Our results highlight the application of PVDF as additive to prepare self-supporting energetic films by spin coating.

The energy release of energetic composites is severely limited by the inert alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) layer on the surface of aluminum (Al). Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) could eliminate Al 2 O 3 layer due to its highly electronegativity and oxidability of fluorine. However, adding PTFE particles would weaken interfacial interactions resulted in poor mechanical properties and interfacial exothermic reaction. Herein, a bridging Al-PTFE as fuel and interfacial reinforcing agent was added and used to prepare LLM-105/Al-PTFE microspheres, achieving both high energy output and excellent mechanical properties. The energy release and combustion reaction performance of LLM-105/Al-PTFE microspheres are significantly improved due to high reaction heat and increased interfacial reaction area of Al-PTFE. The maximum pressure and pressurization rate of LLM-105/Al-PTFE microspheres are 164.06 kPa and 29.88 kPa/s, respectively, which are 40.11% and 16.67% higher than those of physical mixed samples. Furthermore, the tensile strength and compressive strength of LLM-105/Al-PTFE microspheres are 100.40% and 26.47% higher than those of LLM-105/Al. This work provides a new approach to improve the energy release and mechanical properties for energetic composite.

The wet oxidation behavior of LPS-SiC ceramics as well as the synergistic modification effect of Al 2 O 3 and Y 2 O 3 as sintering aids are investigated. The results show that SiO 2 oxide scale is transformed to aluminosilicate with the addition of Al 2 O 3 , which can inhibit the crystallization of oxide layer and formation of cracks. The aluminosilicate oxide layers have low k l value close to zero, which can reduce the consumption of protective oxide layer under water-containing atmosphere. Y 2 O 3 are mainly transformed to Y 2 Si 2 O 7 to resist the diffusion of oxidative gas. However, with the increase of sintering aids content, the aluminosilicate layer with excessive viscosity limits the emission of gas generated by oxidation and causes many bubbles left in oxide scale which provided rapid channel for oxidative gas. Therefore, LPS-SiC with lower content of sintering aids has better oxidation resistance. This work can provide guidance for the component design of SiC-based ceramics and composites.

The rapid development of semiconductor and electronics industries have urged novel adsorbents for fluoride removal from wastewater. In this study, we developed a metal-organic framework filter by in-situ implanting MIL-96(Al) onto Al mesh, which demonstrated effective and stable fluoride removal over a wide range of pH (3−11). The solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results revealed that the different structural changes to which Al3 sites are subjected upon pH modifications trigger fluoride adsorption through Lewis interactions at acidic pH values and through ligand exchange mechanism at neutral/alkaline pH values. Moreover, the filter demonstrated limited Al ions leakage and satisfactory adsorption selectivity towards fluoride among chloride, nitrate, and sulfate, at concentrations up to 50-times higher than fluoride. As a proof of concept for practical applications, the developed filters were sealed in tandem into a home-made filter holder and tested for fluoride removal from real industrial wastewater. When 12 filters were used, fluoride concentrations decreased from 5.8 mg/L to below 1.5 mg/L after 10 min of hydraulic retention time in the filter holder over 5 consecutive cycles. We hope this work may provide new insights for the design of novel absorbents for fluoride removal.

The cBN, Zr, and Al powders were mixed to synthesize PcBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) tool material under high-temperature, ultra-high-pressure conditions. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used to analyze the phase composition and microstructure of the tool material. The mechanical properties and microstructural trends of the tool material at various temperatures were investigated. Research indicates the formation of new phases in the PcBN material following high-temperature and ultra-high-pressure sintering. However, there is no significant difference in the types of formed new phases, all of which consist of BN, ZrB 2 , ZrN, and AlN. The sintering density of the tool material was higher at 1500 °C and 1600 °C, and the mechanical properties improved with increasing sintering temperature . The highest number of tool processing parts made of PcBN tool material synthesized at 1600 °C is 232.

The objective of this study is to enhance the mixing uniformity and contact efficiency between nano-Al and oxidizers through structural control, while suppressing the “pre – ignition fusion” effect of nanothermites. We employed biotemplate approach, utilizing Lycopodium japonicum Thunb. spores (LP) and Papilio maackii wings (PW) as sacrificial templates, to successfully fabricate hierarchically structured Al/PW-CuO and Al/LP-CuO nanothermites. At a stoichiometric ratio of Ф = 1.5, Al/PW-CuO exhibited the highest heat release of 2278.00 J/g, whereas Al/LP-CuO also achieved a substantial heat release of 1969.08 J/g. These outstanding performances are attributed to the unique structures of PW-CuO and LP-CuO, especially the spine-like plate structure of PW-CuO, which provides more reaction sites, thereby enhancing spatial utilization and heat release efficiency. This study provides new insights for the design and application of highly active nanoenergetic materials.
