Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a synthetic and biodegradable polymer with high oxygen barrier property. However, its practical application as coatings in food packaging is limited by insufficient mechanical strength, poor water resistance, weak UV shielding performance, and a lack of active antimicrobial functionality. In this study, polyethyleneimine (PEI) modification not only improved the dispersion of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene but also endowed the PVA film with enhanced mechanical properties, superior water resistance, barrier performance, antimicrobial, and UV-shielding capabilities. The results showed that compared with neat PVA film, the nanocomposite with 4 wt% PMXene (PEI modified MXene) exhibited a tensile strength increase from 27.8 MPa to 38.4 MPa, representing a 38% improvement. The water vapor transmission rate decreased from 35.5 g/m 2 ·24 h to 29.0 g/m 2 ·24 h, and the oxygen transmission rate dropped from 1.5 cm 3 /m 2 24 h to 0.7 cm 3 /m 2 ·24 h. The PVA nanocomposite coating with 6 wt% PMXene blocked 97% of UV light and exhibited antibacterial efficacy exceeding 99% against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli . A fruit preservation test further confirmed that the composite coating can effectively prolong the storage life of cherry tomatoes. Therefore, these PVA nanocomposites demonstrate potential use in packaging applications in the food industry and pharmaceutical storage fields.

Free glucose oxidase (GOx) exhibits high specificity and catalytic efficiency under mild conditions; however, its practical application is limited by poor stability and reusability. In this study, a magnetic nanofiber carrier was fabricated from carboxyl-functionalized polyaryl ether sulfone (PAES-COOH) nanofibers via a facile acid precipitation method. The preparation parameters of the magnetic PAES-COOH nanofiber carrier (MNPAES) and the immobilization conditions for GOx were systematically optimized. The structural and surface properties of PAES-COOH nanofibers and MNPAES were characterized by SEM, FT-IR, XPS, 1 H NMR, GPC, and BET analyses. Compared with pristine nanofibers, MNPAES exhibited an increased specific surface area (from 9.5 to 21.1 m 2 /g) and an enlarged average pore size (from 2.3 to 123 nm), facilitating enzyme immobilization. GOx immobilized on MNPAES (GOx@MNPAES) showed a lower apparent K m value and a higher V max / K m ratio than free GOx, indicating enhanced apparent catalytic efficiency. In addition, GOx@MNPAES demonstrated good storage stability, rapid magnetic separation, and high reusability, retaining approximately 60% of its initial activity after 20 cycles. These results suggest that magnetic PAES-COOH nanofibers are effective carriers for GOx immobilization.

To improve the thermal safety, hydrophilicity and ion transport performance of polypropylene (PP) separators in lithium-ion batteries, a composite coating was developed using amino-modified zeolitic imidazolate framework material (ZIF-67-NH 2 ) and aramid nanofiber (ANF). The coating was applied to the PP separator via a two-step sequential method: (1) ANF dispersion was coated onto the PP substrate to form a support network layer with high mechanical strength and excellent thermal stability; (2) ZIF-67-NH 2 dispersion was uniformly loaded on the ANF layer to construct a functional layer with high specific surface area, regular pore structure and rich active sites. Amino modification of ZIF-67 significantly improved its electrolyte affinity and lithium-ion transport activity. Compared to the pristine PP separator, the modified separator exhibited a thermal shrinkage rate of only 31% at 170°C, indicating superior thermal stability. The water contact angle reached 20°, indicating significantly enhanced wettability. The impedance decreased from 105.6 to 71.2 Ω, and the apparent ionic conductivity increased from 0.0118 to 0.0877 mS/cm. In the cycling test, the battery using the modified separator exhibited an initial discharge capacity of 80 mAh/g, which is approximately 8% higher than that of the battery using the pristine PP separator (73.9 mAh/g), also demonstrating improved capacity retention and stability.

A key factor limiting the photocatalytic performance of pure graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) is the swift recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. To address this issue, the ZnO/g-C 3 N 4 composites were synthesized via a one-step calcination method. Their structure, composition, and morphology being characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). An L 16 (4 5 ) orthogonal array was employed to investigate the effects of various factors on the removal efficiency. The results exhibit that under optimal conditions (sunlight irradiation time: 20.0 h, pH: 7.00, catalyst dosage: 40 mg, ZnO/g-C 3 N 4 mass ratio: 4:1), the methylene blue removal rate reached 92.36%. Comparative experiments demonstrated removal efficiencies of 43.64% for phenol, 52.13% for tetracycline, and 40.26% for pyridine, respectively. Moreover, the removal rate of methylene blue can still reach 90.12% after five cycles. Trapping experiments for active species confirmed that photogenerated electrons and holes are critical for methylene blue degradation. ZnO doping g-C 3 N 4 improves the methylene blue removal performance of g-C 3 N 4 , providing a facile strategy for developing g-C 3 N 4 /metal oxide heterostructure to deal with emerging contaminants in the future.

Cotton fibers are widely used in the textile industry due to their natural hydrophilicity, breathability, and comfort, but their highly flammable nature severely limits their use in protective clothing, home furnishings, and other applications. In order to meet the multi-functional requirements of cotton fibers, such as hydrophobicity and flame retardancy, combined with the research trend of eco-friendly bio-based flame retardant research, this study uses cottonseed meal as the core raw material. Phosphoric acid and polymethylhydrosiloxane were selected as modification agents, with H 2 O 2 serving simultaneously as both solvent and degrading agent. A bifunctional reagent CPSi with flame-retardant and hydrophobic properties was successfully prepared by a one-pot method. Through the dipping-baking-curing finishing process, cotton fiber DC-CPSi with hydrophobic and durable flame-retardant properties was prepared. To characterize the coating on the cotton fibers, we employed techniques such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to examine the morphology and bonding modes of the dual-function reagent. After 50 washing cycles, the durable hydrophobic flame-retardant cotton fiber (abbreviated as DC-CPSi-50) showed a damage length of 65 mm in the vertical combustion test (VFT) and a limit oxygen index value (LOI) of 35.6%, indicating excellent durable flame retardancy. The PHRR and THR of DC-CPSi-50 were reduced by 82.69% and 41.41%, respectively, compared with untreated cotton fibers, demonstrating excellent flame-retardant performance. Additionally, the flame-retardant cotton DC-CPSi-50 exhibited good hydrophobic performance, achieving a contact angle of 128.23° at 30 s, significantly higher than the 84.63° contact angle observed in the control cotton. This study uses bio-based cottonseed meal combined with a simple and environmentally friendly synthesis process, providing a new approach for developing safer, more functional, and environmentally friendly textile finishing technologies. This method has significant application potential in protective clothing, household textiles, and other areas that require high performance and sustainability.

The poor low-temperature flowability of waxy crude oil, stemming from the formation of a continuous wax crystal network, poses a major operational and economic challenge to pipeline transportation. While polymeric pour point depressants (PPDs) and intrinsic asphaltenes are known to exhibit a synergistic flow-enhancing effect, the mechanistic role of PPD molecular architecture—specifically the impact of polar and aromatic functional groups—remains inadequately defined. To address this, a series of structurally tailored comb-like PPDs were synthesized via radical copolymerization of octadecyl acrylate with vinyl acetate (POV), maleic anhydride (POM), or styrene (POS). Their synergistic interactions with asphaltenes (0.75 wt%) in a model waxy oil were systematically deciphered through pour point measurements, rheological analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized light microscopy, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Results indicate that for oil without asphaltenes, polyoctadecyl acrylate (POA) performed best, lowering the pour point by 9°C. Remarkably, in the presence of asphaltenes, PPDs incorporating polar or aromatic comonomers outperformed POA significantly, with POS-3 achieving a 24°C pour point reduction. Microscopy and MD simulations revealed that polar/aromatic groups enhance PPD-asphaltene interaction, leading to the formation of composite particles that template the growth of larger, more spherical wax crystals, thereby effectively disrupting the three-dimensional network. This work establishes a clear structure-activity relationship and provides a molecular-level design principle for developing high-efficiency composite PPDs, contributing to the fundamental understanding and practical application of flow assurance strategies.

This study aims to address the challenge of treating Pb 2+ in mining wastewater, a persistent issue in water environment pollution control. The sodium alginate/graphene oxide/polyethylene glycol (SA/GO/PEG) gel beads were designed and prepared with graphene oxide (GO), sodium alginate (SA), and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as raw materials by combining experiments and simulation. Firstly, the simulation system of SA/GO/PEG gel bead was constructed through molecular simulation, and the optimal composition of SA/GO/PEG gel bead was determined. The simulation results indicated that, with a PEG polymerization degree of 4000, the SA/GO/PEG gel bead system exhibited the greatest structural stability and the most effective cross-linked. Based on the understanding of the structure–performance relationship, SA/GO/PEG4000 gel beads were prepared to achieve an adsorbent with both high adsorption capacity and good stability. Characterization results indicated the successful cross-linked of polyethylene glycol with sodium alginate and graphene oxide, which not only introduced additional oxygen-containing functional groups and increased the crystallinity of the gel beads but, more importantly, led to the formation of a dense and complex three-dimensional network. This structure contributed to the improved thermal stability of the composite. Adsorption experiments showed that the adsorption of Pb 2+ onto SA/GO/PEG gel beads followed the Langmuir isotherm model. The calculated maximum adsorption capacities at 25°C, 35°C, and 45°C were 490.20, 497.51, and 526.32 mg/g, respectively. Furthermore, the gel beads exhibited excellent reusability, retaining 92.64% of their initial adsorption capacity after four consecutive adsorption–desorption cycles.

With the intensification of industrial activities, oil pollution in water bodies has become increasingly severe, necessitating the development of highly efficient and environmentally friendly oil–water separation technologies. This study employed a combined impregnation and vacuum filtration method to modify mixed cellulose ester (MCE) membranes with tea polyphenols (TP) and hydrophilic silica (SiO 2 ) nanoparticles, creating SiO 2 /TP-MCE composite membranes exhibiting high hydrophilicity and submerged oleophobicity. Results indicate that TP modification significantly enhances membrane surface hydrophilicity, reducing the water contact angle to 62° after 24 h immersion and achieving a water flux of 31,217.1 L·m −2 ·h −1 , representing a 2.85-fold increase over the original membrane. The incorporation of SiO 2 further endows the membrane surface with high hydrophilicity and underwater superhydrophobicity. The optimal composite membrane (M5) achieved a separation efficiency of 99.6% for diesel emulsion, demonstrating excellent anti-fouling properties and cycling stability. Based on green and sustainable materials and processes, this composite membrane holds broad application prospects in industrial oily wastewater treatment and marine oil spill emergency response.

Effective hemostasis and pathogenic microorganism clearance are essential primary steps for establishing a stable internal microenvironment during the early stage of wound repair. Therefore, a simultaneous thermal crosslinking-integration strategy was applied to electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and graphene oxide nanosheets (GO) composite fibers to achieve early-stage intervention for acute wounds. During thermal crosslinking, molecular thermal motion facilitates interactions between PVP and GO via various non-covalent interactions, thereby further stabilizing the macromolecular chains. Specifically, the fabricated PVP-G5 membranes exhibit robust morphological stability in aqueous environments, enabling them to accommodate excessive wound exudate. As a supporting substrate, the fibrous structure of PVP-G5 also facilitates platelet accumulation, thereby providing a favorable physical platform for activating the blood coagulation cascade. Furthermore, the embedded GO nanosheets within the fiber matrix not only ensure biocompatibility but also endow the fibrous membranes with NIR-switched photothermal therapy (PTT), thus achieving broad-spectrum pathogen eradication. These findings demonstrate that the PVP-GO composite fiber membranes, fabricated through the in situ thermal integration strategy during crosslinking, offer significant advantages for managing severe bleeding and infection, with promise for early treatment of acute wounds.

Anion-exchange membranes (AEMs) are widely studied as key components of anion-exchange membrane water electrolyzers (AEMWEs) and anion-exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs). Polybenzimidazole (PBI) is a commonly used material for AEMs. Here, we propose a composite approach involving the stepwise quaternization modification of PBI molecular chains and introduction of a covalent organic framework (COF, TpTG Cl ) along with two-dimensional rigid graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles. This strategy aims to address the significant “trade-off” effect between hydroxide conductivity and dimensional stability. This approach uses a simple two-step method to prepare quaternary ammonium-modified PBI (QPBI), enhancing terminal cation mobility to facilitate the aggregation into ionic clusters, thereby improving the hydroxide ion transport ability of the AEM. The mechanical properties and dimensional stability of the composite membranes are significantly enhanced under the synergistic effect of TpTG Cl and GO. The prepared QPBI/GO/TpTG Cl composite membranes exhibit a fracture strength generally above 50.0 MPa in the wet state, the conductivity exceeding 70.0 mS cm −1 at 80°C, and the swelling rate is reduced by approximately 23.7% compared to the QPBI/TpTG Cl 1wt% composite membrane. Among them, the QPBI/GO 1wt% /TpTG Cl 1wt% composite membrane shows a current density of 382 mA cm −2 at 2.5 V, which is 24.0% higher than that of the QPBI membrane.

Cork/thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites are promising sustainable materials for FDM 3D printing, but poor interfacial compatibility limits cork loading to ~3 wt%. To address this, a green strategy was proposed: cork powder was thermally treated at 300°C (modifying surface polarity and porous structure) and further functionalized with hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) to enhance compatibility. Melt-blended composite filaments achieved 10 wt% cork loading: heat treatment alone improved tensile strength by 20% and elongation at break by ~50%, while 6 wt% HDI addition boosted tensile strength by 42% and nearly doubled elongation. This low-cost, bio-based approach enables flexible, high-performance composites, realizing sustainable high-value utilization of natural materials in additive manufacturing.

The application and promotion of biodegradable plastics are hindered by the imbalance between their mechanical and degradation performance imbalance, as well as high costs. Herein, a series of poly(ethylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PEAT) copolyesters with excellent mechanical and degradation properties are synthesized by one-step melt polycondensation. The influence of the proportion of aliphatic groups in the molecular chain on the structure and properties, especially the degradation performance, of the copolyesters was studied. The molecular chain flexibility and degradability of PEAT increases with increasing of adipic acid content and decreasing of ET fragment length ( L ET ). The comprehensive mechanical properties of PEAT60 can be comparable to traditional packaging material poly(butylene adipateco-terephthalate) (PBAT). The degradation performance of PEAT can be adjusted the molecular chain structure. PEAT with L ET < 3 exhibit degradation performance, and PEAT with L ET < 2.2 exhibit significant degradation acceleration. The excellent mechanical and degradable properties of PEAT copolyester make it expected to be used in degradable packaging and other fields to help solve plastic pollution, while its lower cost will aid in the promotion of degradable materials.
