Herein, we demonstrate the enhanced pseudocapacitive performance of a MoS2-based flexible supercapacitor by the co-doping strategy of cations and anions. The MoS2 nanosheet arrays on carbon cloth are directly doped with N and Co atoms through a simple hydrothermal process. The obtained cation and anion co-modified MoS2 (N-Co-MoS2) shows improved electron transport efficiency and enhanced active sites for MoS2. According to the first-principles calculations, N-Co-MoS2 has a unique band structure and high electrical conductivity. As expected, N-Co-MoS2 shows higher capacitive performance with 5072.5 mF cm–2 and a better cycle life (retaining 100% capacitance after 10,000 cycles) than pure MoS2. Furthermore, a solid-state flexible N-Co-MoS2 supercapacitor device is fabricated to demonstrate excellent mechanical stability with a specific capacitance of 3236 mF cm–2 and a stable cycle capacitance of 75.56% after 5000 cycles. In our work, we have provided a reference for preparing MoS2-based materials with good supercapacitive performance.

Metal ion modification is considered to be an effective way to construct metal oxides with specific physical and chemical properties. In this paper, we prepare a tungsten oxide (WO3) film co-modified by Co-ion and Mo-ion to serve as the electrochromic material through a one-step electrodeposition method. The effect of electrodeposition time on film thickness, surface morphology and electrochromic properties is systematically studied as well. The results show that, compared with pure WO3film, the surface morphology of the tungsten oxide film modified by Co-ion and Mo-ion (WO3: Co, Mo) is significantly different. The Co and Mo co-modified film possesses a higher transmission modulation (58.5% at 600 nm) and rapid switching speed (coloring and bleaching time are 2.7 s and 5.6 s, respectively), low impedance value and excellent cycle stability. The performance enhancement is mainly attributed to the coral-like structure of the membrane, which provides a larger specific surface area, more ion adsorption sites and faster ion diffusion. Therefore, this work provides a fast and low-cost method to prepare tungsten oxide electrochromic films co-modified with cobalt and molybdenum ions. At the same time, it also provides an idea to obtain films with different electrochromic properties by adjusting the film thickness. Keywords:electrochromic;metal ion modification;structure;WO3film

In this study, the Fe 3 O 4 /Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 composite catalyst was synthesized by co-precipitation method. The morphology and the structure of Fe 3 O 4 /Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 composites were characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, EDS, XPS, VSM. The results showed that the removal rate of RhB (10 mg/L) reached 99.5% in 40 min in the 0.4-Fe 3 O 4 /Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 (200 mg/L) + PMS (50 mg/L) system with a pseudo first-order degradation rate constant (k) of 0.121 min −1 , which is nearly 2.16 times of that (0.0561 min −1 ) in the Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 + PMS system and 18.9 times of that (0.0064 min −1 ) in the Fe 3 O 4 + PMS system. The observed synergistic catalysis between Fe 3 O 4 and Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 in Fe 3 O 4 /Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 enhanced the degradation of RhB. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis and quenching experiment indicated that SO 4 − and OH played important roles in the degradation process of RhB. A synergistic catalytic mechanism of PMS activation by Fe 3 O 4 /Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 , which mainly involves the enhanced Co 2+ /Co 3+ cycle by Fe 2+ donated electrons, was proposed. In summary, owing to its easy preparation, excellent catalytic activity, and reusability, the Fe 3 O 4 /Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 composite catalyst is a good candidate for remediation of contaminated water.

The rapid development of highly durable electric vehicles has put forward higher requirements for lithium-ion batteries. Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 (LTO) is widely studied owing to its long service life and safety. However, owing to their low electrical conductivity and diffusion, lithium ions have limited practical applications. In this study, Co-Cl co-doped LTO/TiO 2 diphase (LTOT) nanosheets were prepared via the hydrothermal method . The synergistic effect of Co-Cl co-doping reduced the charge-transfer resistance of LTOT and increased the lithium-ion diffusion coefficient , thereby improving the dynamic behavior of the electrode material, which further enhances the rate capability and cycle performance of LTOT. The optimized LTOT:Co-Cl composite exhibited excellent cycle performance and rate capability (the ninth cycle reversible capacities were 253.8, 222.2, 200.1, 185.7, 169.9, 161.3, and 146.3 mAh·g −1 at the current density of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, and 50 C (1 C = 175 mA·g −1 ) rate, respectively). In addition, LTOT:Co-Cl maintained a capacity of 120 mAh·g −1 after 5000 cycles at 50 C with a retention rate of 83 %, indicating that the average decay rate per cycle is only 0.003 % during the long charge/discharge process.

Electrochemical energy (e.g., fuel cell and metal-air batteries) is featured by large theoretical energy density, high conversion efficiency, safe operation and pollution-free emission. However, the sluggish dynamics of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and high cost of noble metals hinder their widespread commercial applications in electrochemical energy devices. Herein, we present a method for the preparation of the N, S co-doped carbon film wrapped Co nanoparticles (Co/NSC) for ORR by aging and then pyrolyzing the mixture of cobalt salt and 1-(p-Toluenesulfonyl)imidazole. The co-doping of N and S facilitates the electron rearrangement of the carbon film, resulting in a rapid electron transfer. The core-shell structure enhances the interaction between N, S co-doped carbon film and Co nanoparticles. These features endow the Co/NSC catalyst an excellent ORR with a half-wave potential of 0.860 V and limiting current density of 6.2 mA cm -2 , besides the superior anti-methanol. The Co/NSC catalyst as the air cathode grants the assembled zinc-air battery high open circuit voltage (1.467 V), large peak power density (156.2 mW cm -2 ), great specific capacity (747.9 mAh g Zn -1 ), and excellent stability. Thus, the prepared Co/NSC catalyst exhibits a promising application in zinc-air battery. This work provides an approach for the synthesis of the carbon-shell coated non-noble metal catalyst and its subsequent applications in oxygen electrocatalysis.

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) or carbon monoxide (CO) to valuable multi-carbon (C2+) products like acetate is a promising approach for a sustainable energy economy. However, it is still challenging to achieve high activity and selectivity for acetate production, especially in neutral electrolytes. Herein, a bioinspired hemin/Cu hybrid catalyst was developed to enhance the surface *CO coverage for highly efficient electroreduction of CO to acetate fuels. The hemin/Cu electrocatalyst exhibits a remarkable faradaic efficiency of 45.2% for CO-to-acetate electroreduction and a high acetate partial current density of 152.3 mA cm−2. Furthermore, the developed hybrid catalyst can operate stably at 200 mA cm−2 for 14.6 hours, producing concentrated acetate aqueous solutions (0.235 M, 2.1 wt%). The results of in situ Raman spectroscopy and theoretical calculations proved that the Fe–N4 structure of hemin could enhance the CO adsorption and enrich the local concentration of CO, thereby improving C–C coupling for acetate production. In addition, compared to the unmodified Cu catalysts, the Cu catalysts functionalized with cobalt phthalocyanine with a Co–N4 structure also exhibit improved acetate performance, proving the universality of this bioinspired molecule-enhanced strategy. This work paves a new way to designing bioinspired electrolysis systems for producing specific C2+ products from CO2 or CO electroreduction.

The high content of heteroatoms and trace metals makes it difficult to upgrade poor-quality oils (PQO). The co-pyrolysis or co-hydrogenation of coal tar (CT)/vacuum residue (VR) is a new approach for the efficient utilization of PQO. The products of CT/VR co-pyrolysis and co-hydrogenation were characterized by RV, TG-FTIR, and GC × GC-TOF. Co-pyrolysis reduces the reaction harshness by lowering the activation energy of pyrolysis. Co-pyrolysis changes the reaction paths of oxygen-containing free radicals by promoting the generation of oxygen-containing organic compounds and inhibiting coke generation by increasing the pyrolysis spillover of unsaturated hydrocarbons. Co-hydrogenation increased the gasoline and diesel yields while reducing coke production. The saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes of CT and VR experienced a significant increase in the gasoline and diesel fractions after hydrogenation. The gasoline and diesel content enhancement in the four-component hydrogenation products of CT increased with increasing polarity, whereas the opposite trend was observed for the four-component hydrogenation of VR. There was a clear synergistic effect between the aromatics of CT and VR in terms of hydrogenation saturation, while the synergistic effect of the aromatics was somewhat weaker. The saturates and resins had an inhibitory effect on each other.

Anti-fog glass can solve the safety problems caused by glass fogging in a wide range of applications. However, its durability is still insufficient under actual application conditions such as high humidity, friction and scratches, et al. Therefore, this work copolymerised hydrophilic chain segments N-hydroxyethyl acrylamide (HEAA) containing -OH and water-resistant -NH-CO-, hydrophobic chain segments butyl acrylate (BA) and a “bridging agent” 4-benzoylphenyl acrylate (BPA) into a trimeric anti-fog coating. And, -OH was introduced to the glass surface by a simple plasma treatment. The BPA was covalently linked with hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers HEAA/BA through a free-radical polymerisation reaction of double-bonded to form a covalent carbon chain. Meanwhile, it covalently combined with the -OH on the glass surface. BPA formed a stable link between the anti-fog coating and the glass substrate. Thus, the coating was resistant to 400 cycles of sand abrasions and can lift up to 1500 g. The -NH-CO- in HEAA and BA significantly increased the water resistance of the coating which can be immersed in water for 120 h. The -OH in HEAA not only given the coating excellent anti-fogging properties, but also enabled it to self-heal quickly within 10 s. The durable anti-fog coatings prepared in this work have great potential for practical applications.

The practical development of Li-O 2 batteries (LOBs) urgently needs to explore robust cathode catalysts to boost the sluggish Li 2 O 2 reaction kinetics and parasitic reactions despite their theoretically high specific energy. Profound understanding of the cathode properties and the battery performance is rather critical in developing rational-designed electrocatalysts. In this study, a Co-N x /Co (111) decorated N-doped hierarchical carbon framework (Co-N x /Co@NHCF) is proposed as an efficient cathode in LOBs. Spectroscopic analysis coupled with experimental results suggests that the Co-N x /Co (111) catalytic center can significantly reduce the battery overpotential, and meanwhile, the hierarchical carbon framework ensures rapid mass transportation and provides sufficient space to accommodate Li 2 O 2 deposition. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the incorporated Co (111) facet can effectively regulate the electronic distribution of N-carbon, optimize the adsorption of desirable intermediates, and eventually facilitate oxygen reduction reaction/oxygen evolution reaction kinetics. As expected, the Co-N x /Co@NHCF catalyzed LOBs deliver a high discharge/charge capacity of 6.15/ 6.22 mAh cm −2 with a columbic efficiency of 98.9%, along with a high rate cycling of 700 h at 0.3 mA cm −2 . This work provides valuable instruction for the rational design of efficient catalysts for high-performance LOBs via optimization of the crystal structure and the adsorption of intermediates.

Electrochemical CO2-to-CO conversion is a significant alternative to lower CO2 emission and build carbon-neutral processes, as well as produce CO, which can directly serve as a syngas precursor for Fischer–Tropsch synthesis. However, the easy water flooding of the gas diffusion electrode (GDE) employed in a flow cell during CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) electrolysis remains a tough problem. Consequently, it breaks the electrolyte/catalyst/CO2 triphase interface and lowers the FECO. Herein, the combined inarching of amino-substituted cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc-NH2) and octadecylamine (ODA) onto the surface of the CNT via an amide bond was designed and fabricated. The obtained composite catalyst, labeled as CoPc-CNT-ODA, shows atomically dispersed metal active sites endowed with superior and stable hydrophobicity. When applied to CO2RR in a flow cell, the CoPc-CNT-ODA electrode displays a high CO faradic efficiency (FECO) of 97.7% and a partial current density (jCO) of 154.8 mA·cm–2 at an applied potential of −1.0 V (vs RHE). Moreover, the FECO values are all above 90% from −0.8 to −1.2 V (vs RHE). Even after electrolyzing at −1.0 V for 12 h, the FECO still remains at 88.3%, implying the superior stability of the CoPc-CNT-ODA electrode. The proposed methodology for GDE/catalyst improvement can be extended to other triphase interfaces involved in catalytic systems.

A new type of three-dimensional, echinus-like magnetic Fe 3 O 4 @ cobalt(Ⅱ)-based metal-organic nanotube (Fe 3 O 4 @ Co-MONT) yolk-shell microspheres, have been designed and synthesized for the first time. Fe 3 O 4 @ Co-MONTs yolk-shell microspheres were characterized by scanning electron micrographs, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectra, X-ray diffraction, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The feasibility of the new material for use as an absorbent was investigated for magnetic solid phase-extraction (MSPE) of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from environmental water samples and biological samples. The Plackett-Burman design and Box-Behnken design were used to determine and optimize the extraction parameters influencing the extraction efficiency through response surface methodology. Under the optimized conditions, the developed method showed good linearity within the range of 5–1000 ng L −1 , low limits of detection (0.31–0.49 ng L −1 ), and good reproducibility (RSD < 10%). The proposed method was successfully applied for the analysis of PCBs in real environmental water samples. These results demonstrated that Fe 3 O 4 @ Co-MONTs is a promising adsorbent material for the MSPE of PCBs at trace levels from environmental water samples and biological samples.

CO 2 sequestration based on hydrate technology is considered to be the most promising long-term CO 2 sequestration technology. In this study, a method of using initial stirring to activate CO 2 hydrate formation process was proposed in the aim of saving energy and avoiding the problem of stirring shaft stuck, where the stirring only played a role in activating hydrate formation process. Two amino acids, l -Methionine and d -leucine, were chosen as promoters for improving the formation kinetics of CO 2 hydrates, and l -Methionine presents better than d -leucine. When the concentration of l -methionine solution is equal to or greater than 4 mmol/L, even with the initial stirring of 10 rpm within 8 min, T 90 can be shortened to close to or less than 40 min with a high gas consumption of more than 7.3 mmol gas/mL water, where the promoting effect is similar to the condition of continuous stirring of about 100 min, indicating that about 90 % of the energy consumed for mechanical stirring can be saved. Moreover, an interesting phenomenon was observed that CO 2 hydrates firstly nucleated inside the l -methionine solution, and a large number of small hydrate floccules rapidly formed and filled the entire solution under the action of magnetic stirring, which proved the instantaneous excitation effect of stirring on hydrate formation. This work contributes to rethinking the promoting roles of stirring and promoters in CO 2 hydrate formation.
