A phosphate ion (Pi) is usually considered as an important index of eutrophication in water and can cause great harm to the water ecological environment. In this work, MOF-808(Zr/Ce) was synthesized simply for phosphate detection and removal. MOF-808(Zr/Ce) with oxidase-like activity can oxidize 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). The colorimetric sensing of phosphate was performed based on the enhancement of the oxidase-like activity of MOF-808(Zr/Ce). The linear detection range for phosphate detection was 11–581 μM, and the detection limit (LOD) was 3.7 μM. The MOF-808(Zr/Ce)/CNF (cellulose nanofibers) flexible film synthesized by the filtration method also enables the rapid identification of phosphate. Besides, the phosphate adsorption performance of MOF-808(Zr/Ce) was also investigated. The adsorption capacities are 54.9, 65.1, and 68.5 mg g−1 at 298, 308, and 318 K, respectively. The results show that MOF-808(Zr/Ce) has great potential for phosphate detection and removal.

The widespread use of toltrazuril (TOL) as a low-toxicity anticoccidial agent in livestock production necessitates sensitive monitoring of its persistent metabolite, toltrazuril sulfone (TOS), which exhibits hepatotoxic and reproductive risks at subchronic exposure levels. Here, we proposed a novel electrochemical immunosensor for the ultrasensitive detection of TOS in eggs, utilizing a decorated amino-functionalized cerium metal-organic framework-gold nanoparticle (NH₂-Ce-MOF/AuNPs) nanocomposite. The NH₂-Ce-MOF was synthesized via a hydrothermal crystallization of (NH₄)₂Ce(NO₃)₆ and 2-aminoterephthalic acid, exhibiting exceptional stability and an expansive surface area. Compared to conventional electrodes, NH₂-Ce-MOF-modified electrodes promoted AuNPs nucleation and provided more active sites for HAuCl₄ deposition, while also enhancing antibody binding, thereby improving the detection sensitivity of electrochemical immunosensors. Subsequently, electrodeposited HAuCl₄ enhanced both electron transfer kinetics (charge transfer resistance decreased by 68% to a bare electrode) and bioreceptor loading capacity. Electrochemical evaluation demonstrated superior sensor performance, achieving a wide linear range of 0.05 ng/mL–100 ng/mL (R²=0.998) with an ultralow limit of detection of 33.2 pg/mL (S/N=3), representing a 3-fold improvement over conventional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. The electrochemical immunosensor exhibited excellent selectivity and reproducibility (relative standard deviation<10%). This platform establishes a robust foundation for TOS residues and other hazardous contaminant monitoring in complex food matrices.

Mixed manganese and cerium oxide supported on HZSM-5 were synthesized and used as heterogeneous catalysts for ozonation of bisphenol A (BPA) in aqueous solution. The prepared catalysts of Mn-Ce/HZSM-5 were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy. The results indicated that Mn-Ce/HZSM-5 exhibits extraordinary catalytic activity for the degradation of BPA. Removal of 89.3% of BPA and 90.4% of total organic carbon (TOC) was achieved in 30 min, compared to non-catalytic ozonation, where only 50.5% BPA and 28.1% TOC removal were reached under the same conditions. Adsorption of BPA on HZSM-5 support and Mn-Ce/HZSM-5 catalysts was negligible. The strong inhibition of BPA removal by tert-butyl alcohol indicated that the attack of hydroxyl radicals was responsible for the improvement of catalytic ozonation. It was observed that at neutral pH, which is near the point of zero charge of the catalyst, the catalytic activity reached its maximum. Increasing the amount of Mn-Ce/HZSM-5 catalyst until it exceeded 3 g/L did not show a strong effect on BPA removal. The catalysts showed high stability and reusability.

Adsorption technology is essential for water remediation and resource recovery to reduce environmental pollution. Although Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit outstanding adsorption capabilities, their high preparation cost hinders their wide application. Alternatively, chitosan (CS) hydrogels offer wastewater treatment at an affordable cost. Herein, polyethyleneimine-modified CS hydrogel coated with MOF (Ce-BTC/CS-PEI) was prepared as a high-capacity sorbent for methyl orange (MO) sequestration. A comprehensive characterization of the Ce-BTC/CS-PEI composite was carried out, involving morphological and elemental analysis (SEM-EDS), crystal phase identification (XRD), surface area and porosity measurements (BET), surface charge evaluation (zeta potential), molecular structure determination (FTIR), and surface chemical state analysis (XPS). The increased interfacial contact area and the positively charged zeta potential of Ce-BTC/CS-PEI enabled efficient adsorption of MO in MO/methylene blue mixtures. The experimental data demonstrated strong agreement with the Langmuir equilibrium isotherm and second-order rate equations. Ce-BTC/CS-PEI demonstrated exceptional uptake performance, reaching 819.67 mg·g −1 after 18 h. Thermodynamic analysis showed that adsorption was a natural exothermic procedure. After four cycles, the material retained 70% of its adsorption efficiency. Therefore, Ce-BTC/CS-PEI exhibits excellent capability as an excellent, ecologically friendly, and inexpensive adsorbent for selective MO removal.

Facile electrodeposition-nitridation yields Ce-CoN/Ni 3 N heterostructured catalyst. • Ce tunes electronic structure and generates N vacancies to accelerate HER kinetics. • Ce activates lattice oxygen and drives reconstruction for dual AEM/LOM OER. • Symmetric flow electrolyzer achieves 500 mA cm −2 at 2.04 V over 500 h durability. The design of highly efficient and low-cost bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting (OWS) is essential to realize a sustainable hydrogen economy. Heterojunction engineering can realize synergistic catalysis by coupling distinct active components, while the low activity at the interfaces needs further improvement by introducing elaborate elements. Herein, we constructed a Ce-modified CoN/Ni 3 N heterojunction catalyst via sequential electrodeposition and nitridation. The introduction of redox-active Ce modulates the interfacial electronic configuration and creates a high density of nitrogen vacancies (N v ), substantially boosting the bifunctional catalytic performance of Ce-CoN/Ni 3 N. The optimal catalyst requires overpotentials of only 27 mV and 267 mV to deliver 10 mA cm −2 for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in 1 M KOH. A two-electrode flow electrolyzer equipped with Ce-CoN/Ni 3 N as bifunctional electrodes achieves a high industrial current density of 500 mA cm −2 at a cell voltage of 2.04 V and maintains stable operation for 500 h. Mechanistic investigations reveal that Ce incorporation elevates the oxidation states of Ni and Co and promotes the generation of N v , which accelerates water dissociation and HER kinetics. Meanwhile, Ce incorporation facilitates surface reconstruction from β -NiOOH to the more active γ -NiOOH phase and activates lattice oxygen, enabling cooperative adsorbate evolution mechanism (AEM) and lattice oxygen mechanism (LOM) pathways that collectively enhance OER kinetics. This study reveals that heterointerface engineering offers an effective and feasible strategy for creating highly active bifunctional electrocatalysts toward practical water electrolysis. A pH-responsive MBT/Ce-ZIF-8@TA nanocontainer system was developed to enhance the corrosion resistance of epoxy coatings. Porous Ce-ZIF-8 cores loaded with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) were encapsulated by a functional tannic acid (TA) shell. In this system, TA acts as a “gatekeeper,” preventing premature leakage in neutral environments while triggering inhibitor release under corrosive stimuli. Release kinetics reveal a distinctive “on-demand” mechanism: while stable at neutral pH, a rapid burst release (87.84% in 24 h) occurs at pH 3.0, ensuring immediate delivery of inhibitors to passivate defects. The nanocontainers are uniformly dispersed in the epoxy matrix, significantly enhancing long-term corrosion protection. After 60 days of immersion in 3.5 wt % NaCl, the composite coating exhibits an impedance modulus 3 orders of magnitude higher than that of pure epoxy. Notably, scratched coatings demonstrate superior active self-protection, with Rc recovering from 7.76 × 109 Ω·cm2 to 1.58 × 1010 Ω·cm2 within 24 h. This enhanced performance is attributed to the synergistic combination of physical barrier reinforcement and pH-triggered chemical passivation by the released inhibitors.

Electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) provides a sustainable route for transforming CO 2 into value-added chemicals, yet achieving controllable selectivity remains a major challenge. Here, we constructed Ce-rich and Cu-rich Ce-Cu interfaces (CeCu 0.55 O x and CeCu 2.67 O x ) to elucidate the interfacial regulation of CO 2 RR pathways. CeCu 0.55 O x delivers a CH 4 Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 45% at –400 mA/cm 2 , whereas CeCu 2.67 O x achieves over 50% FE toward C 2 products. Operando Raman measurements reveal comparable Cu oxidation states during CO 2 RR, indicating that interfacial composition rather than Cu valence dominates selectivity. The Ce-rich interface accelerates H 2 O dissociation, increasing *H coverage and promoting sequential hydrogenation of *CO to CH 4 . In contrast, the Cu-rich interface strengthens *CO adsorption and increases its surface coverage, steering C−C coupling toward *OC-CO and enabling C 2 product formation. This work clarifies how tuning the Ce/Cu ratio modulates *H and *CO intermediate coverages, providing a mechanistic basis for designing oxide-metal interfaces with programmable CO 2 RR selectivity.

Ce-doped MnO 2 with oxygen vacancies modulates Pt electronic structure. • Pt/Ce-MnO 2 /MWCNTs shows 9.69 A mg Pt -1 for methanol oxidation under light. • Electron-rich Pt surface shows weakened CO adsorption at 0.94 V vs. RHE. • Synergy of defect engineering and photocatalysis boosts MOR durability. The development of efficient and CO-tolerant anode catalysts is critical for advancing direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Herein, we report a rationally designed photoelectrocatalyst comprising ultrafine Pt nanoparticles anchored on Ce-doped MnO 2 supported by highly conductive multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Pt/Ce-MnO 2 /MWCNTs). Ce incorporation induces abundant oxygen vacancies within the amorphous MnO 2 matrix, which modulate the local electronic structure and facilitate strong metal-support interactions. This results in electron-enriched Pt surfaces with weakened CO adsorption, as evidenced by negative shifts in Pt 4f binding energies and improved CO stripping performance. Under simulated solar illumination, the Pt/Ce-MnO 2 /MWCNTs catalyst delivers a mass activity of 9.69 A mg Pt -1 toward methanol oxidation, representing a 46.6% enhancement over that under dark conditions and exceeding undoped Pt/MnO 2 /MWCNTs and commercial Pt/C catalysts. This performance is attributed to the synergistic interplay of (i) oxygen-vacancy-mediated electronic modulation, (ii) efficient charge transport via the MWCNT network, and (iii) photoexcited charge carriers from Ce-MnO 2 that actively participate in oxidizing poisoning intermediates. The catalyst also exhibits CO tolerance with an onset potential of 0.94 V and good long-term durability, retaining 82.3% of its initial activity after 500 cycles. This work demonstrates strategies for designing high-performance DMFC anodes through defect engineering and light harvesting. Ce x Mn 0.3-x Zr 0.7 O δ catalysts were synthesized by an evaporation-induced
self-assembly combined with a colloidal crystal template (EISA-CCT)
method. These catalysts exhibit excellent soot combustion activity
and possess an intact 3DOMM structure. The electronic synergy between
Mn and Ce was investigated. Mn facilitates the reduction of Ce 4+ to Ce 3+ and the generation of oxygen vacancies,
thereby increasing active oxygen species, while Ce oxidizes Mn 2+ to Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ , which enhances the intrinsic
redox ability and NO oxidation. Among the tested samples, the Ce 0.15 Mn 0.15 Zr 0.7 O δ catalyst
exhibits activity comparable to that of noble-metal catalysts and
excellent stability, which can be attributed to the maximized Ce–Mn
synergy and the intact 3DOMM morphology.

Aerobic Baeyer-Villiger (B-V) oxidation reaction in the presence of aldehydes is a promising environmental-friendly synthetic route for the synthesizing ε-Caprolactone. Bimetallic oxides catalysts have been regarded as a highly efficient heterogenous catalysts to boost the oxidation capability of O 2 . However, the lack of kinetic parameters for the bimetallic oxide catalysts hinders the large-scale production of ε-Caprolactone. Herein, a shaped Ce–Sn bimetallic oxide was utilized as model catalysts for the mechanism and kinetic study of aerobic B-V oxidation reaction. The effects of the shaping process on the physical structure, surface valence state distribution, and microstructure morphology of the catalyst were systematically examined. The shaped catalyst exhibits a higher selectivity and conversion rate than the powder counterparts due to the increase of surface area. The reaction mechanism was investigated through stepwise experiments, radical trapping experiments, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Based on the mechanism study results, a stepwise kinetic model involving peroxidation of benzaldehyde, B-V reaction and oxidation of benzaldehyde was established and demonstrated good predictive capability for aerobic B-V oxidation reaction. This study provides stepwise kinetic parameters for the aerobic oxidation of cyclohexanone in the presence of benzaldehyde, which would significantly promote the engineering application of the aldehyde/oxygen catalytic oxidation process.

A multifunctional nanocomposite, composed of Ga-loaded Ce-MOF core and NO-responsive microgel shell, is designed to integrate effective drug loading, controlled drug release and multi-target synergy to therapy RA. • The Ga-loaded Ce-MOF core functions dually as a high-capacity drug carrier of natural compound and a nanozyme with superoxide dismutase/catalase-like activities for reactive oxygen species (ROS) elimination, effectively alleviating oxidative stress damage in RA and establishing initial synergistic effects with Ga intrinsic anti-inflammatory activity. • The NO-responsive microgel shell acted as pathological cue-triggered “gatekeeper”, enabling on-demand drug release specifically at inflammatory sites while concurrently scavenging excessive NO to synergetic treat RA. • The nanocomposite significantly inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines, alleviates cartilage degradation and bone erosion by eliminating excessive RONS, promoting the repolarization of macrophages from M1 to M2 phenotypes, and regulating the MAPK and cGMP/PKG signaling pathways. • This “one-stone-three-birds” strategy that integrating natural drug therapy, stimuli-responsive drug release with synergistic RONS scavenging and immune homeostasis modulation, offers an innovative and efficient approach for treatment of RA and other inflammatory diseases. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by persistent inflammatory injury and progressive destruction of joints. The elimination of excessive reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) and the restoration of immune homeostasis have emerged as promising therapeutic strategies for RA. Gastrodin (Ga), a bioactive natural constituent derived from Gastrodia elata, possesses inherent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacities, whereas its clinical translation and in vivo utility are substantially hampered by inferior environmental stability and uncontrollable drug release behavior. Herein, we fabricated a nitric oxide (NO)-responsive nanocomposite (NCMG) consisted of a Ce-based metal-organic framework (Ce-MOF) nanozyme loaded with Ga and encapsulated by a NO-responsive microgel shell for synergistic RA treatment. The Ce-MOF serves dual functions as a high-efficiency drug carrier and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenger, while the outer microgel shell enables precise on-demand Ga release and efficient NO depletion. In vitro experiments and in vivo validation based on adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) rat models demonstrated that NCMG markedly inhibits the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, induces macrophage polarization from the pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype to the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype, and effectively alleviates joint inflammation and bone erosion. Transcriptomic profiling further showed that Ga treatment was associated with downregulation of Il1b and Tnf and alterations in MAPK related gene expression, suggesting the involvement of this pathway in its anti-arthritic activity. This work develops an integrated nanotherapeutic platform combining natural active compounds with multi-component synergistic effects, offering a feasible strategy for RA intervention.

Efficient hydrogen (H 2 ) generation from electrochemical overall water splitting (OWS) is key to a sustainable H 2 economy. Low-cost transition metal-based catalysts, such as Ni- and Co-based phosphides, have gained attention for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to their excellent corrosion resistance and high electrical conductivity. In particular, bimetallic Ni and Co-based phosphide catalysts are considered highly efficient electrocatalysts for OWS due to their abundant adsorption sites and low adsorption energy for hydrogen species. However, improving their stability and activity remains challenging. Herein, a Ce doping NiCo phosphide catalyst is presented with vary Ce amount (Ce x -NiCoP) supported on nickel foam (NF) with multi-site functionality, achieving highly efficient HER performance comparable to benchmark platinum catalysts support carbon fiber or NF (Pt/C or Pt/NF). Comprehensive characterization results show that the optimal amount of Ce doping significantly influences the electronic structure of the catalyst, preventing the formation of Ni 5 P 4 and CeO 2 , promoting the dominant NiCoP phase. This modification enhances the catalyst's hydrophilicity, improving the HER activity significantly. Remarkably, the catalyst also demonstrates exceptional OER performance, making it a highly active and stable bifunctional catalyst for OWS, with the highest energy efficiency of 96.7%.
