Cyclic volatile methylsiloxanes (cVMS) are widely used in consumer products and commonly detected in the environment. There are challenges in the analysis of cVMS because of their ubiquitous use which can introduce high background contamination. The current study introduces a sample preparation method based on headspace of solid-phase microextraction (SPME) for monitoring the cVMS in waters. Efforts were made to reduce the background contamination during sample preparation and instrument analysis. A laboratory prepared MIL-101 coating was prepared using polysulfone instead of polydimethylsiloxane as adhesive to avoid the contamination. The extraction performance of the MIL-101 fiber was optimized and evaluated. The optimized extraction time and temperature were 60 min and 40 °C, respectively. The method quantification limits of the MIL-101 fiber for octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) and dodecylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) in water were 0.15 ng mL −1 , 0.14 ng mL −1 , and 0.27 ng mL −1 , respectively. The extraction efficiency of the proposed MIL-101 fiber was comparable to the commercial polydimethylsiloxane/divinylbenzene fiber. The developed method was applied to analyze the cVMS in wastewater treatment plant and the concentrations in the barscreen and in the aeration tank ranged from 0.73 to 3.3 ng mL −1 and 7.74–85.1 ng mL −1 , respectively. The MIL-101 fiber was also applied to study the photodegradation of the cVMS in water under simulated sunlight. Approximately 25%, 20%, and 45% of D4, D5, and D6, respectively, were degraded after 10 h exposure.

Exploration of suitable electrode hosts with large open channels that can reversibly accommodate K + with large radius have been extensively investigated. Nevertheless, the reported inorganic counterparts were inevitably restricted by the difficulty of large K + diffusion capability in crystal structure and the huge volume change. Herein, we report a bifunctional vanadium-based metal–organic framework (MIL-47) with double active centers and larger lamellar spacing that could serve as both cathode and anode material , respectively by controlling the redox potential range in potassium-ion batteries. The results suggest that the stable K-storage mechanism is the reversible rearrangement of the conjugated carboxyl groups of organic terephthalic acid into enolate and the reversible redox activity of V ions , with the specific capacity of 272 mAh g −1 (0.01–1.5 V) and 50 mAh g −1 (1.5–3.8 V) at the current density of 10 mA g −1 for MIL-47 anode and MIL-47 cathode, respectively. The unsaturated functional group of MIL-47 and the intermediate bridged V atom not only provide multi-dimensional channels for electron and ion transport but also stabilize its crystal structure. Additionally, a symmetric full-cell in potassium-ion batteries based on MIL-47 was constructed successfully by avoiding the utilization of K metal with safety concerns. Our results provide new insight into structure design for next-generation large-scale energy storage applications.

The widespread presence of toxic nitroaromatic compounds in industrial effluents demands advanced remediation strategies. Catalytic reduction is highly effective, while the practical application of powdered catalysts is limited by challenges in recovery and reuse. To overcome this issue, macroscopic Pd@NH 2 -MIL-101/AOPIM-1 porous composite beads were fabricated via a phase inversion method, combining the high surface area of NH 2 -MIL-101 with the excellent processability of amidoxime-functionalized polymers of intrinsic microporosity (AOPIM-1). The incorporation of NH 2 -MIL-101 enriches the composite with amino functional groups, thereby enhancing the adsorption and local enrichment of reactants. Furthermore, these nitrogen-rich sites provide robust anchoring points for the uniform dispersion of Pd nanoparticles, collectively boosting catalytic activity and structural stability. The beads exhibited outstanding catalytic activity for the reduction of nitroaromatics, achieving 99% conversion of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) within 5 min. The catalyst also maintained excellent structural stability over multiple cycles and allowed easy separation. Furthermore, the catalyst exhibited over 90% efficiency in the reduction of other common nitroaromatic pollutants, underscoring its versatility and applicability in wastewater treatment. This work provides a sustainable and practical solution for wastewater treatment by transforming hazardous contaminants into valuable aromatic amines using an easily separable catalytic system.

Metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon materials exhibit significant advantages for microwave absorption applications, owing to their high electrical conductivity, structural tunability, and abundant intrinsic defects and heterogeneous interfaces. However, achieving an optimal balance between magnetic and dielectric losses remains challenging for most magnetic metal-based MOFs-derived absorbers. In this study, MIL-125(Ti) was prepared as a template, and TiO 2 @C-x composites were synthesized via a two-step pyrolysis method. Experimental results demonstrate that the pyrolysis temperature significantly affects the graphitization degree of the carbon matrix and the formation of TiO 2 nanoparticles, thereby playing a dominant role in the dielectric and microwave absorption properties of the investigated MIL-125(Ti)-derived core-shell TiO 2 @C composites. Notably, the TiO 2 @C-700 composite delivers an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.2 GHz in 9.2-12.4 GHz at a thickness of 2.01 mm. Therefore, the MIL-125(Ti)-derived TiO 2 @C composites fabricated in this study establish a viable and nonmagnetic strategy for designing tunable, lightweight, and high-performance MOF-derived microwave absorbers.

With growing concerns over water pollution and depletion of freshwater resources, finding sustainable and cost-effective solutions for water treatment is crucial. This study introduces a novel MIL-53(Fe)/Mn-doped SrTiO3 (MIL-53(Fe)/Mn-STO) direct Z-scheme photocatalyst, designed to efficiently degrade organic contaminants in water. Specifically, the photocatalytic degradation of o-nitrophenol (ONP) was investigated under an Xe lamp. The MIL-53(Fe)/Mn-STO photocatalyst demonstrated a maximum removal efficiency of 97.75% within 90 min, with a rate constant (k) of 0.0374 min−1, outperforming the individual MIL-53(Fe) and Mn-STO photocatalysts. A comprehensive analysis of the material’s properties was conducted using Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and photoluminescence techniques, and the photocatalytic activity was evaluated under various conditions, including variations in pH, ONP concentration, catalyst dosage and the presence of inorganic anions. The improved photocatalytic activity of the MIL-53(Fe)/Mn-STO system can be ascribed to the synergistic interaction between its two components, which also contributed to its excellent recyclability over five cycles. These findings demonstrate that MIL-53(Fe)/Mn-STO is a highly effective and sustainable photocatalyst with a strong potential for wastewater treatment applications.

A MIL-53(Al)-functionalized terahertz metasurface sensor was developed for the room-temperature detection of styrene, a potential volatile biomarker associated with lung cancer. The sensor combines the localized electromagnetic field enhancement of the terahertz metasurface with the adsorption enrichment capability of MIL-53(Al). Benefiting from the flexible one-dimensional channels, the size-compatible pore environment of MIL-53(Al), and the possible π–π and host–guest interactions between styrene molecules and the terephthalate linkers, the functionalized metasurface exhibits an enhanced sensing response toward styrene. APTES was introduced as an interfacial coupling layer to improve the immobilization and dispersion of MIL-53(Al) nanocrystallites on the metasurface. SEM and FTIR characterizations confirmed the formation of a nanocrystallite-stacked MIL-53(Al) coating and the successful introduction of both APTES and MIL-53(Al) onto the sensor surface. The optimized sensor achieved a sensitivity of 0.37 GHz/ppm and a limit of detection of 1 ppm within the concentration range of 1–100 ppm. In addition, the sensor showed good selectivity against several interfering VOCs, as well as acceptable repeatability and stability. This work provides a feasible strategy for integrating flexible MOF adsorbents with terahertz metasurfaces, offering a potential platform for rapid, label-free, and room-temperature detection of trace aromatic VOCs.

MOF-based nanozymes are promising for colorimetric biosensing but are often limited by rigid coordination environments and poor active-site accessibility. Here, a 2-methylimidazole-regulated MIL-88B(Fe) nanozyme (2-MIM@MIL-88B) was prepared via an in situ coordination-competition strategy. Compared with pristine MIL-88B(Fe), 2-MIM@MIL-88B retained a spindle-like morphology but showed reduced crystallinity, nitrogen-containing species, pore-texture reorganization, and local Fe-site electronic modulation with increased defect-related centers. These changes correlated with enhanced peroxidase-like activity in the TMB-H 2 O 2 system, despite a reduced BET surface area. In a glucose oxidase-coupled colorimetric assay, 2-MIM@MIL-88B enabled glucose detection over 0.015–0.5 mM with a detection limit of 1.7 µM.

Porous materials are of critical importance in applications such as catalysis and separation due to their tailorable pore architectures. Research now encompasses metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), with growing attention to their dynamic structural flexibility in response to external stimuli. While thermal, pressure, and light stimuli provide means of control, their implementation faces limitations such as poor heat transfer efficiency and material compatibility constraints. Comparatively, electric fields (EFs) offer a promising alternative stimulus, circumventing mass/heat transfer barriers and thus enhancing applicability. This study investigates the structural response of Materials of Institute Lavoisier (MIL)Materials of Institute Lavoisier-series MOFs to EFs. Ex situ and in situ X-ray analyses reveal that EFs induce an unexpected framework contraction in MIL-53 (Cr), distinct from its conventional large-pore/narrow-pore transitions triggered by other stimuli. This contraction increases pore charge density and significantly enhances CO 2 adsorption and selectivity. Similar responses observed across several MIL MOFs (MIL-53 (Fe), MIL-47 (V), and MIL-101 (Cr)) indicate a universal structural adaptability to EFs. These findings elucidate mechanisms of EF-induced structural changes in MIL-series MOFs and their direct impact on gas adsorption properties, particularly for CO 2 capture. It provides a pathway for precise, in situ control of pore structure and functionality using EFs, opening new prospects for designing advanced adsorbents applying in separation and catalysis.

Antibiotic overuse has led to drug-resistant bacteria and superbugs, necessitating urgent strategies. MOFs, although they are potential antimicrobial carriers, have limitations at low doses and in single therapy. Here, by adding different amounts of CTAB in the precursor solution, two different morphologies of NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@Ag nanoagents were obtained, namely, NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@Ag-1 (Cube) and NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@Ag-2 (Octahedron). Antibacterial experiments showed that these two nano reagents with both photothermal and photodynamic effects exhibited nearly 100% bactericidal rate against high concentrations of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli (107 CFU/mL) within 15 min. The combination of inactivation of intracellular proteins and disruption of cell membranes induced by Ag ions and high temperature resulted in NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@Ag 100% in an octahedron showing durable and superior bactericidal performance at low doses (64 μg/mL), which is much better than other antibacterial reagents. Furthermore, the enhanced mechanism was discussed in detail by DFT calculations. A special electron transfer process occurred between Ag and NH2-MIL-101 (Fe) under 880 nm NIR irradiation, which promoted the generation of ROS and enhanced the antibacterial effect. In addition, these two nano reagents have good therapeutic effects on wound healing in vivo due to silver ions and photothermal effects.

Magnesium hydride (MgH 2 ) with high gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity is considered as one of the most potential hydrogen storage materials ; however, its development has been plagued by the high operating temperature and slow kinetics. In this study, we have design and synthesize a core-shell Ni/Fe 3 O 4 @MIL additive to aid the (de)hydrogenation of MgH 2 /Mg system via the co-catalytic effect of in-situ formed Mg 2 NiH 4 /Mg 2 Ni and Fe. The initial dehydrogenation temperature significantly reduces from 613 K to 517 K, and the MgH 2 -Ni/Fe 3 O 4 @MIL composite can reabsorb 4.17 wt% H 2 within 3600 s under 3.0 MPa H 2 at 373 K. Remarkably, the dehydrogenation activation energy of the composite decreases by 61.77 kJ/mol compared to the pure MgH 2 (159.71 kJ/mol). Moreover, the composite also shows good cycling stability without distinct capacity decay after cycling twenty times. Studies show that during dehydrogenation and hydrogenation processes, the Mg 2 NiH 4 /Mg 2 Ni act as catalysts to induce hydrogen desorption/absorption of MgH 2 /Mg. Meanwhile, the unique core-shell structure of the Ni/Fe 3 O 4 @MIL not only provides reaction sites, but also prevents the agglomeration of nanoparticles and maintains stable catalytic activity. This study provides a new idea for designing stable transition metal heterogeneous catalytic system to improve hydrogen storage performance of MgH 2 .

A series of MCl 2 @MIL-101(Cr) composites were fabricated via vacuum wet impregnation. • CaCl 2 @MIL-101(Cr)-0.35 exhibits ultrahigh NH 3 uptake of 28.9 mmol/g at 298 K and 100 kPa. • Composite shows excellent NH 3 /N 2 selectivity and cycling stability. • Adsorption rate is extremely fast and follows pseudo-second-order kinetic. • Synergistic effect between chemical and physical adsorption was proved. Ammonia (NH 3 ) is a vital chemical raw material and promising carbon-free energy carrier, its efficient capture is essential for both industrial production and energy development. However, achieving high capacity, high selectivity and high stability in NH 3 capture adsorbents still remains a challenge. Herein, a series of metal chloride@MIL-101(Cr) composite adsorbents (M = Ca, Co, Ni) were fabricated via a vacuum wet impregnation method. Structural characterization confirmed that metal chlorides were highly dispersed within the MIL-101(Cr) pores as an amorphous phase without damaging the MOF framework. The optimal CaCl 2 @MIL-101(Cr)-0.35 achieved an ultrahigh NH 3 adsorption capacity of 28.9 mmol/g at 298 K and 100 kPa, which is 3.6 times that of pure MIL-101(Cr). The extremely high NH 3 adsorption capacity is attributed to strong coordination bonds between Ca 2+ and NH 3 , and synergistically enhanced by N–H···Cl − and N–H···O hydrogen bonds involving the Cl − as well as the framework carboxylate oxygen atoms, respectively. It also demonstrated estimated high NH 3 /N 2 selectivity (>6000 at low pressure) and good short-term cycling stability, retaining over 95% of its initial capacity after 10 adsorption-desorption cycles. The adsorption kinetics were rapid, and the process was best described by the pseudo-second-order model, indicating a chemisorption-dominated mechanism. This “confinement loading” strategy effectively combines the physisorption advantages of MOFs host and chemisorption merits of metal chlorides guests, achieving synergistic enhancement of NH 3 adsorption performance. The prepared composite material exhibits shows potential for further evaluation in industrial ammonia separation and capture.

Photocatalytic CO2reduction into CH4is a promising route for solar fuel production, but its efficiency is still limited by poor charge separation, insufficient CO2activation, and sluggish multi-electron transfer kinetics. Herein, Cu-modified TiO2(Cu/TiO2) was prepared by calcining a Cu-modified defective MIL-125(Ti) precursor, denoted as Cu-MIL-125, through a temperature-controlled calcination strategy. The effects of calcination temperature on the structural evolution, surface chemical states, interfacial charge transport, and CO2photoreduction performance were examined. These results indicated that the Cu/TiO2was successfully prepared, while the crystallinity, porous structure, and interfacial electronic properties of Cu/TiO2were strongly dependent on the calcination temperature. Among the obtained samples, the Cu/TiO2sample obtained by calcining Cu-MIL-125 at 450 °C (450 Cu/TiO2) exhibited the highest CH4formation rate, reaching 15.90 μmol g−1h−1, corresponding to an approximately 9.8-fold enhancement over TiO2calcined from defective MIL-125(Ti) at 450 °C, together with a high CH4selectivity of 93.05%. Control experiments and13CO2isotope-labeling tests confirmed that the detected carbon-containing products were generated from CO2under photocatalytic conditions. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy measurements further revealed the formation of carbonate, bicarbonate and hydrogenated carbon-containing intermediates during the reaction. This work offers a practical route for constructing metal–organic framework-derived Cu/TiO2photocatalysts for selective CH4production from CO2.
