A desirable MOF-on-MOF-based ratiometric fluorescent probe (denoted as HPU-26@ZIF-8@Cit@Eu) was designed through the seed-mediated method for classifying phenylglyoxylic acid (PGA, a real internal exposure level of styrene) and 2,6-dipicolinic acid (DPA, a unique bacterial endospore biomarker) with high selectivity and sensitivity. Characterization techniques were carried out with the PXRD pattern, XPS spectra, UV–vis absorption spectra, and DFT-calculated HOMO and LUMO energies for proven mechanisms. The results indicated that PGA could affect the LMCT-ET process in HPU-26 and be binded to Eu3+ in ZIF-8, thus resulting in a significant increase both in the blue fluorescence emission peak at 476 nm and the red fluorescence emission peak at 620 nm. According to the fluorescence intensity ratio (I620/I476), the limit of detection (LOD) reached as low as 0.63 μM within a wide concentration range from 0 to 100 μM, and a noticeable color change from blue to red could be observed. However, upon exposure to DPA, the energy transfer between Zn2+ and the ligand was influenced sharply, without prejudice to the fluorescent intensity of Eu3+ in ZIF-8. These phenomena made this probe with a stable reference signal have an ultralow LOD of 0.26 μM for DPA in the range of 0–175 μM, converting the fluorescence color from dark blue to bright blue. Meanwhile, the developed probe was applied to the construction of logic gates and hydrogel-based film for the determination of PGA and DPA in real samples with the help of a smartphone.

Supported metal–organic framework (MOF) membranes are promising candidates for energy-efficient natural gas purification, but the preparation of ultrathin MOF membranes supported by polymer substrates remains challenging. Herein, we proposed a polymer collaboration method for preparing ultrathin two-dimensional MOF membranes on polymer support layers. Cu(II) meso-tetra (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (CuTCPP) membranes having thicknesses as low as <10 nm were formed in situ because of the high density of heterogeneous nucleation sites in a polyvinyl alcohol-Cu 2+ interface layer and the controlled anisotropic growth of nanocrystals enabled by a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) surfactant. The prepared CuTCPP membranes showed excellent CO 2 /CH 4 separation performance, yielding a high permeance of 4560 GPU and a moderate selectivity of 31.8. Furthermore, the prepared CuTCPP membranes also displayed good CO 2 /N 2 separation performance, having a CO 2 permeance of 3200 GPU and a CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 36. The thickness of CuTCPP membranes can be controlled by varying the concentration of metal ions in the organic interface layer. This preparation method can not only fix the active sites for membrane formation but also control the morphology of crystal growth and is applicable to membrane fabrication using other porous MOFs.

Bismuth (Bi) is a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries due to its high capacity. However, challenges such as low conductivity and significant volume expansion during charge cycles restrict its practical application. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), known for their controllable structure, hybrid inorganic-organic nature, large surface area, and high porosity, offer a solution to fix up above challenges. This study designs three-dimensional porous hollow spherical nanostructured bismuth-based MOF (Bi-MOF) by coordinating Bi 3+ with terephthalic acid. The material features a functional spherical shell and internal pore structure that maintain open ion transport channels, abundant electrochemical sites, and a large contact area between electrolyte and electrode. This design accelerates ion/electron transport within the cavity, mitigating volume expansion during charge-discharge cycles and ensuring structural stability. As an anode material, Bi-MOF exhibits great electrochemical performance: retaining discharge capacities of 617.6 mAh g −1 after 1000 cycles at 1 A g −1 and 579.1 mAh g −1 after 200 cycles at 0.1 A g −1 . Coupled with LiFePO 4 cathodes, the full-battery maintains 93.1 mAh g −1 after 110 cycles at 1C. This work provides a train of thought to develop high-performance anode materials for enhanced lithium storage in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and validated the lithium storage mechanism of Bi-MOF.

The limited efficiency of conventional fungicides and the increasing incidence of fungal diseases highlight the need for advanced delivery systems to ensure sustainable crop protection. Here, we introduce a pH-responsive Fe-Zn dual MOF-on-MOF core–shell nanocarrier (MIL-101@ZIF-8) that integrates fungicide delivery with micronutrient supplementation—an innovative approach in agricultural nanotechnology. The MIL-101(Fe) core facilitates loading of prochloraz (Pro), while the ZIF-8 shell degrades under acidic conditions at infection sites, enabling targeted co-release of Pro and Zn 2+ . The system exhibits specific pH-sensitive release patterns, achieving a cumulative release of 86.1% at pH 4.5 compared to 50.4% at pH 7.4 after 96 h. Compared with commercial emulsion concentrates (Pro-EC), Pro@MIL-101@ZIF-8 demonstrates superior rainfastness, enhanced UV stability, and markedly greater antifungal efficacy against Rhizoctonia solani (EC₅₀ = 0.457 mg/L). Additionally, this platform activates rice defense mechanisms by reducing malondialdehyde accumulation and increasing peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities, while supporting seedling growth by prolonging Zn 2+ release. Zebrafish assays confirm high biosafety at concentrations relevant for agricultural use. Collectively, these findings present a dual-MOF-based pesticide–nutrient co-delivery system as a promising and environmentally responsible solution for next-generation fungal disease management.

γ-CD-MOF@Eu-MOF flower-like probe synthesized for sensitive sulfonamides detection. • Paper-based sensor enables portable, visual on-site testing via smartphone imaging. • Machine learning algorithm boosts detection speed and reliability for quantitation. • The detection limit of the γ-CD-MOF@Eu-MOF for SAs is as low as 25.5 nmol/L. The protection of human health and the guarantee of food safety necessitate rapid and precise identification of sulfonamides (SAs) residues in food. Herein, we propose a fluorescence sensor based on γ-CD-MOF@Eu-MOF, which is used for quantitative and visual detection of SAs. The γ-CD-MOF@Eu-MOF exhibits high selectivity toward SAs, with detection limits for sulfamerazine (SMR), sulfamethazine (SM 2 ), and sulfamethoxydiazine (SMD) as low as 25.5 nmol/L, 36.7 nmol/L, and 39.8 nmol/L, respectively. The fluorescent probes were immobilized on paper substrates to construct a paper-based sensor, which was combined with a smartphone-assisted machine learning algorithm to enable high-throughput, intelligent, and rapid detection of SAs. After optimizing the constructed prediction model, the coefficient of determination can reach 0.99, indicating the accuracy and applicability of the model. Overall, this sensor exhibits excellent stability, sensitivity, and specificity, providing a practical approach for the intelligent, rapid, and high-throughput on-site visual detection of SAs. A MOF-on-MOF composite derivative material named ZIF-67@Ce-MOF-600 was designed and synthesized. The preparation of ZIF-67@Ce-MOF-600 was optimized from the aspects of the ratio of metal and ligand, heat-treatment temperature. It was demonstrated by XRD , FT-IR, SEM-EDS and TEM . The optimum conditions for the activation of PMS by ZIF-67@Ce-MOF-600 for the degradation of tetracycline (TC) were investigated by adjusting the catalyst dosage, TC, pH, peoxymonosulfate (PMS) concentration, and different kinds of water, co-existing anions and pollution. Under optimal conditions (20 mg catalysts and 50 mg PMS added) in 100 mL of tetracyclines (TC) solvent (20 mg TC/L), the removal rate could reach up to 99.2% and after five cycles was 70.5%. The EPR results indicated the presence of free radicals and non-free radical, among which free radicals intended to play a major role in the degradation process. Its possible degradation pathways and attack sites were analyzed by liquid-phase mass spectrometry and DFT analysis.

In this study, MOF-on-MOF hybrids were successfully synthesized by interfacial growth method using CoZn-ZIF as guest MOF and MIL-101(Fe) as host MOF, and then employed as heterogeneous catalysts to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in the degradation of dyes. The hybrids exhibited different morphologies depending on the Co/Zn ratios (10/0, 10/2, 10/10, and 2/10), all of which displayed exceptional catalytic performance. Notably, the hybrid with a Co/Zn ratio of 10/2 showed the highest degradation rate of MB, reaching 100 % removal within 3 min with a k obs value of 452.75 Lg −1 min −1 based on the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Through EPR characterization and scavenging experiments, it was determined that the degradation of dyes occurred through a combination of radical (SO 4 •-, •OH)and non-radical ( 1 O 2 ) pathways, with 1 O 2 and SO 4 •- playing prominent roles. Various factors such as Co/Zn ratio, catalyst dosage, PMS concentration, initial pH, temperature, and MB solution concentration were systematically investigated to understand their influence on the catalytic performance. Furthermore, the influence of inorganic ions, humic acid (HA), and the reusability and stability of the catalyst was evaluated, demonstrating its potential for practical applications. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the design and application of MOF-based catalysts for environmental remediation processes.

PMoV 2 was encapsulated in four MOFs (MIL-101, HKUST-1, UiO-67, ZIF-8) with different cavity sizes and window sizes using a hydrothermal synthesis method. Then, a layer of mesoporous silica was coated on the surface of the MOFs to obtain four designed three-layer encapsulated catalysts 30%PMoV 2 @MOF@mSiO 2 . The physicochemical properties of the catalysts were characterized through various characterization methods, and the influence of different MOF window sizes of the four catalysts on the removal rate of four thiophene sulfides was investigated. The optimal reaction conditions were also explored for the optimal catalyst. The results indicate that under simulated fuel of 2400 ppm, 30%PMoV 2 @UiO-67@mSiO 2 owns the highest catalytic activity. Under optimal conditions, the total removal rate of four thiophene compounds was 91.52 %, and after ten cycles, the efficiency could still reach 86.24 %. This is attributed to the sufficient cavity size of UiO-67, which provides assurance for the loading of PMoV 2 and the large window size, making it possible for the smooth reaction between sulfides and PMoV 2 .

Advanced fiber coating materials are pivotal for achieving good performance in solid-phase microextraction (SPME). To enhance the adsorption capacity of metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon materials, we developed a novel two-dimensional/three-dimensional (2D/3D) MOF co-growth strategy. This approach synthesizes a core-shell structured 2D ZIF-L@ZIF-67 hybrid framework through controlled crystallization of 3D ZIF-67 (Co) on 2D ZIF-L (Zn) substrates. Subsequent pyrolysis converts this material into nitrogen-doped carbon-graphite carbon/carbon nanotube heterostructures (NC@GC/CNTs) with hierarchical porosity. The NC@GC/CNTs were utilized as fiber coating material of SPME to enrich trace polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in jasmine tea, barrel drinking water, and green tea beverages. The adsorption performance of the fiber toward PCBs were significantly improved, which can be attributed to cation-π interaction, π-π interaction, and strong hydrophobic effect between fiber coating and analytes. Using NC@GC/CNTs as fiber coating material, a headspace SPME (HS-SPME) coupling with gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) was developed to quantitative analysis of PCBs. Under the optimal conditions, the HS-SPME-GC-FID method exhibited a wide linear range (0.005–30 ng·mL −1 ) with a good linear correlation coefficient (R 2 ≥ 0.9947), low limits of detection (0.001–0.003 ng·mL −1 ), and high enrichment factors (11077–14,447). The recoveries of method to PCBs were obtained in the range of 83.2–119.6 % in real samples.

Nanofiller/polymer composite electrolytes have been regarded as promising candidates for all-solid-state lithium-metal batteries. However, well-dispersion of nanofillers in polymer composite electrolytes is still a great challenge. Herein, we report an in-situ solvent-free processable method to the MOF/polymer composite electrolyte with highly dispersed and defected MOF nanoparticles. The high MOF dispersion without aggregation not only suggests the uniform composite structure with high utilization of MOF nanofillers but also induces the formation of continuous and uniform Li + transport paths. The defected MOF structure is favorable to adsorb anions and promote Li + transportation. As a result, Such MOF/polymer electrolyte demonstrates enhanced electrochemical performance and the assembled LiFePO 4 /Li full cells also exhibit both the excellent rate capability and cycling stability. This study proposes a simplified and efficient methodology for the highly dispersed MOF/polymer composite electrolytes for high performance solid-state batteries.

The abuse of antibiotics makes bacterial infection an increasingly serious global health threat. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are the ideal alternative antibacterial approach for quick and effective sterilization. Although various antibacterial strategies based on ROS have been developed, many of them are still limited by insufficient antibacterial efficiency. Here, we have developed an acid-enhanced dual-modal antibacterial strategy based on zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 (ZIF8) -derived nanozyme. ZIF8, which can release Zn 2+ , is chosen as the carrier to integrate glucose oxidase (GOx) and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) which can produce ROS via a cascade catalytic reaction. Thus, the bactericidal capability of ROS and Zn 2+ have been integrated. More importantly, gluconic acid, a “by-product” of the catalytic reaction, can generate an acidic environment to promote both the ROS-producing and Zn 2+ -releasing, enhancing the overall antibacterial performance further. This triple-synergistic strategy exhibits extraordinary bactericidal ability at a low dosage of 4 μg/mL (for S. aureus ) and 8 μg/mL (for E. coli ), which shows a great potential of MOF-derived nanozyme for efficient bacterial eradication and diverse biomedical applications.

Owing to their high surface area and porosity, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been gradually employed for a myriad of applications ranging from sensing, pollutant adsorption, and drug delivery to environmental remediation and catalysis. Magnetic nanoparticles-metal-organic frameworks (MMOFs) hybrid materials can facilitate facile removal of MOFs from solutions. In this report, we report the synthesis of Fe3O4@UiO-66 by encapsulation and simulated the drug loading and release by studying the adsorption and release of AO7. Thus, we loaded these MMOFs with AO7 and found that they were able to trigger and control its release by simply applying an external magnetic field. The magnetic field heats the magnets in the MOF, which causes the load to burst from the framework. Keywords:magnetic MOFs;triggered release;targeted delivery;AO7
