High-performance electrochemical power generation humidity sensor based on NaCl/sodium alginate humidity sensing electrolyte and Cu/Zn electrodes for visual humidity indication and respiratory patterns detection

Zaihua Duan,Boyu Zhang,Mingxiang Zhang,Zhen Yuan,Yadong Jiang,Huiling Tai

Electrochemical power generation humidity sensors have received great attention recently, but it is challenging for achieving good humidity sensing and power generation performances simultaneously. Herein, we construct a high-performance power generation humidity sensor based on NaCl/sodium alginate (SA) humidity sensing electrolyte and Cu/Zn electrodes. Benefiting from the reasonable selection of humidity sensing electrolyte and electrode materials and the design of sensor structure, the optimized NaCl/SA humidity sensor exhibits wide humidity sensing detection range (10.9−91.5% relative humidity (RH)), short response time (5.6 s), and good repeatability (20 cycles) at 25°C. Importantly, the humidity sensor has high response voltage (∼0.7 V), large short circuit current (∼24 μA) and loading power (∼2.63 μW) at 91.5% RH. The NaCl/SA humidity sensor can be used for passive visual humidity indication by connecting it to a pointer microammeter. In addition, we designed signal processing circuit and software program to recognize respiratory patterns using NaCl/SA humidity sensor. This work not only achieves a high-performance electrochemical humidity sensor, but also provides a useful reference for its applications in passive visual humidity and respiratory patterns detections.

Novel synthesized cationic surfactants based on natural piper nigrum as sustainable-green inhibitors for steel pipeline corrosion in CO2-3.5%NaCl: DFT, Monte Carlo simulations and experimental approaches

Ahmed H. Tantawy,Kamal A. Soliman,Hany M. Abd El-Lateef

CO 2 -Corrosion is a widespread issue in oil and gas production, and various storage media have different impacts on the corrosion performance of steel used for tubes. In this paper, three novel cationic surfactants based on natural piper nigrum for inhibiting CO 2 -corrosion have been synthesized. The structure configurations of the prepared surfactants were confirmed by various spectral and physico-chemical tools viz. FTIR , 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR and surface activity measurements. The measurement of contact angles was used to evaluate the wettability of all synthesized surfactants. The inhibition capacities of the titled surfactants, for steel pipelines (C1018-steel) corrosion in CO 2 -3.5%NaCl were studied by electrochemical (open-circuit potential vs. time, Tafel and EIS) measurements, surface morphology (FE-SEM/EDX) examinations, DFT , and Monte Carlo simulations. The empirical findings indicated that the prepared natural surfactants had superior inhibition action, and their maximum inhibition capacities were ranged from 96.7 to 98.9%. Tafel data displays the features of these surfactants are considered as inhibitors of the mixed-type; and their adsorption mode on the C1018-steel/medium interface is consistent with the Langmuir isotherm model. The formation of a protective layer on the C1018-steel interface was investigated using FE-SEM/EDX. DFT calculations were carried out to correlate theoretical parameters with experimental outcomes. The Monte Carlo simulations affirm the adsorption capability of the synthesized surfactants on the iron (110) crystal. The present report provides extremely significative findings in preparing and designing novel sustainable-green inhibitors with high inhibition power.

Sustainable recovery of pure aluminum from scrap aluminum alloy via soluble anode electrolysis: Cathodic deposition behavior of Al and Mg ions in MgCl2–KCl–NaCl molten salt system

Buju Guo,Yaowu Wang,Ruoyu Li,Yifei Li,Boxiong Zhang,Jianping Peng,Yuezhong Di,Ke Wang,Chang Wang

Scrap aluminum (Al) alloy recycling is critical for energy conservation and decreasing carbon emissions. Conventional remelting process does not remove alloying elements, severely limiting the value and applications of recycled Al. To overcome this limitation, this study develops an efficient process for recovering pure Al from scrap Al alloys via soluble anode electrolysis in a designed MgCl 2 -KCl-NaCl (MKN) molten salt system. Real-time monitoring of the electrolysis process, time-dependent characterization of cathodic deposits, and electrochemical analyses reveal a three-stage cathodic deposition mechanism in the MKN molten salt system: initial underpotential deposition of Mg 2+ transitions to co-deposition of Mg 2+ and Al 3+ , and ultimately to exclusive reduction of Al 3+ , which is driven by progressive Al 3+ accumulation. The introduction of AlCl 3 proves pivotal, simultaneously enhancing Al 3+ deposition efficiency while effectively suppressing Mg 2+ co-reduction. Systematic optimization identifies 12.5 wt% AlCl 3 addition, 500 °C, and 0.15 A/cm 2 as the ideal operational parameters, achieving recycled Al with 99.84 wt% purity. The soluble anode electrolysis process in the MKN molten salt system represents an efficient and scalable alternative to conventional remelting. The developed process is capable of producing recycled Al with purity comparable to that of primary Al while addressing critical sustainability challenges in the Al industry.

Insight into the oxidation mechanism of low-salt Sichuan-style sausages treated with inclusion complexes of tea-polyphenol/β-cyclodextrin/NaCl and electron beam irradiation using machine learning algorithms

Ya Liu,Jiuhong Du,Wenyi Ran,Lihui Huang,Wenyue Yu,Huan Guo,Yue Xiao,Yanping Wu,Kai Zhong,Yina Huang,Hong Gao

Low-salt sausages are gaining popularity due to health risks from high salt intake. In this study, the effects of electron beam irradiation (EBI) at various doses (0, 3, 6 kGy) combined with inclusion complexes (ICs) of tea-polyphenol/β-cyclodextrin/NaCl on the quality of low-salt Sichuan-style sausages during ambient storage (25 °C) were investigated. Additionally, machine learning algorithms were employed, and the accuracy and R 2 of both SVM and Extra Tree models exceeded 99.9%, highlighting the key oxidation biomarkers to establish the oxidation mechanism. ICs demonstrated enhanced antioxidant properties that effectively suppressed excessive oxidation in sausages accelerated by 3 kGy EBI, thereby reducing the oxidative products contributing off flavors while preserving desirable flavor compounds derived from spices, pepper oil and microbial metabolism. These findings offer novel insights into utilizing ICs and 3 kGy EBI for preserving low-salt Sichuan-style sausages while providing valuable information regarding potential volatile biomarker for detecting sausage oxidation levels.

Species discrimination of β-phenylethylamine, NaCl and NaOH based on Ultraviolet spectroscopy and principal component analysis combined with improved clustering by fast search and find of density peaks algorithm

Angxin Tong,Jinyang Zhu,Qiang Zhang,Shuai Tian,Xiaojun Tang,Hong Chen,Feng Zhang

This paper aimed at putting forward an approach integrating the improved clustering by fast search and find of density peaks ( I-CFSFDP) algorithm with Ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy for identifying the species of NaCl, NaOH, β-phenylethylamine(PEA) and their mixtures. For solving the issue that the clustering precision of the CFSFDP algorithm relies on the density forecast of the dataset and the manually selection of the truncated distance d c . The idea of kernel density forecast was adopted to the I-CFSFDP algorithm. The I-CFSFDP algorithm can observe the clusters of arbitrary shapes and use an adaptive method to evaluate the truncated distance d c , thereby generating more accurate clusters and identifying the core points in the clusters effectively. The dimensions of the UV spectra was reduced with principal component analysis (PCA), and the results of PCA were invoked as the input of the I-CFSFDP algorithm. Meanwhile, the effect of PCA-I-CFSFDP was evaluated by recall, accuracy, F-Score and precision. Besides, the DBSCAN and PCA-CFSFDP algorithms were used to compare with the PCA-I-CFSFDP algorithm. All of the classification outcomes displayed that the PCA-I-CFSFDP algorithm has better performance than the DBSCAN and PCA-CFSFDP algorithms. Therefore, the PCA-I-CFSFDP algorithm integrated with UV spectroscopy is a simple, quick and credible identification approach for detecting PEA, NaCl, NaOH and the mixtures.

Effects of pH and Salinity on the Hydrothermal Transport of Tungsten: Insights from In Situ Raman Spectroscopic Characterization of K2WO4-NaCl-HCl-CO2 Solutions at Temperatures up to 400°C

Xiaolin Wang,Ye Qiu,I-Ming Chou,Rongqing Zhang,Guanglai Li,Richen Zhong

In situ Raman spectra of aqueous K2WO4-HCl, K2WO4-HCl-NaCl, and K2WO4-CO2-NaCl solutions were collected at elevated temperature (, 100–400°C) and constant pressure () of 30 MPa. The stretching vibration band of the W=O bond () was analyzed to reveal the species of tungsten (W) responsible for the hydrothermal transport of W during mineralization. Results showed that monomeric tungstates with (W=O) bands at ~930 and 950 cm-1 are the dominant W species in weakly alkaline (room temperature, ) to near-neutral (room temperature, ) solutions under the investigated conditions. Overall, the stability of polymeric tungstate species with (W=O) bands at ~965–995 cm-1 decreases with rising temperature and was not detected at ≥300°C in moderately acidic solution (room temperature, ). However, increased fluid acidity and salinity obviously enlarged the temperature stability field of polymeric tungstate species. In highly acidic solution (room temperature, ), polymeric tungstates are the only stable W species even at 400°C. In the presence of 1.9 mol/kg NaCl, polymeric tungstate(s) can persist to at least 350°C in moderately acidic solution. Considering that 300–350°C is the major W-mineralizing range and W-mineralizing fluid is generally characterized by a moderately acidic nature, we propose that, in addition to monomeric tungstates, polymeric tungstates can also be important W species in some natural geological fluids that are responsible for the mineralization of W. Future studies of the W mineralization mechanism should take this issue into account.

Semi-aromatic polyamide membrane incorporated with yolk-shell mesoporous hybrid nanospheres for ultrahigh permeability and improving comprehensive property

Qiang Li,Afang Zhao,Na Zhang,Xinmin Li,Xiaotai Zhang,Yi Wang,Li Zhao,Li Zong,Wanling Cui,Huining Deng,Xianghua Dou,Naif Mohammed Al-Hada

In this report, yolk-shell (YS) organic-inorganic hybrid nanospheres (YSHNs) with radially ordered mesopores were synthesized by a co-assembly strategy using 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane and tetraethoxysilane as precursors, and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as a soft template. Then, Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were uniformly embedded in the hollow cavities of the YSHNs. The semi-aromatic polyamide (SAP) based nanocomposite membrane was fabricated using 1,3,5-cyclohexane tricarbonyl chloride as an organic phase, meta -phenylene diamine as an aqueous phase, and the mesoporous YS hybrid nanospheres as nanoadditives by an interfacial polymerization approach. The results show that the YS nanospheres were successfully incorporated into the polyamide (PA) separation layer, and the membrane becomes very hydrophilic. The membrane incorporated with the aminated YS mesoporous nanospheres exhibits ultrahigh pure water permeability (PWP, 9.34 L m −2  h −1 bar −1 ) and comparable NaCl rejection (96.1%), which is dramatically higher than the membrane with common mesoporous nanospheres. It is because that the hollow cavity of the YS nanosphere further decreases the membrane resistance, and the aminated spherical surface improves the interfacial compatibility between the PA matrix and the YS nanospheres. Furthermore, the flexible YS hybrid structure and the mesoporous core could play an important buffering for avoiding the shell fracture under a high operation pressure. The chlorine resistance of the YS-nanosphere incorporated membrane is significantly improved compared to the pristine SAP membrane in a strong chlorination strength (5500 ppm h, pH = 5). The confined AgNPs in the YS mesostructure endow the membrane with a sustainable antibiofouling property. Moreover, the polylysine modification improves the membrane fouling resistance and performance stability.

Liquid Metal Mediated Heterostructure Fluoride Solid Electrolytes of High Conductivity and Air Stability for Sustainable Na Metal Batteries

Qijie Yu,Jiulin Hu,Xianhui Nie,Yuhan Zeng,Chilin Li

Fluoride-based solid electrolytes (SEs) have emerged as a promising component for high-energy-density rechargeable solid-state batteries (SSBs) in view of their wide electrochemical window, high air stability, and interface compatibility, but they still face the challenge of low ion conductivity and the lack of a desired structure for sodium metal SSBs. Here, we report a sodium-rich heterostructure fluoride SE, Na3GaF6–Ga2O3–NaCl (NGFOC-G), synthesized via in situ oxidation of liquid metal gallium and in situ chlorination using low-melting GaCl3. The distinctive features of NGFOC-G include single-crystal Na3GaF6 domains within an open-framework structure, composite interface decoration of Ga2O3 and NaCl with a concentration gradient, exceptional air stability, and high electrochemical oxidation stability. By leveraging the penetration of gallium at NaF grain boundaries and the in situ self-oxidation to form Ga2O3 nanodomains, the solid-phase reaction kinetics of NaF and GaF3 is activated for facilitating the synthesis of main component Na3GaF6. The introduction of a small amount of a chlorine source during synthesis further softens and modifies the boundaries of Na3GaF6 along with Ga2O3. Benefiting from the enhanced interface ion transport, the optimized NGFOC-G exhibits an ionic conductivity up to 10–4 S/cm at 40 °C, which is the highest level reported among fluoride-based sodium-ion SEs. This SE demonstrates a “self-protection” mechanism, where the formation of a high Young’s modulus transition layer rich in NaF and Na2O under electrochemical driving prevents the dendrite growth of sodium metal. The corresponding Na/Na symmetric cells show minimal voltage hysteresis and stable cycling performance for at least 1000 h. The Na/NGFOC-G/Na3V2(PO4)3 cell demonstrates stable capacity release around 100 mAh/g at room temperature. The Na/NGFOC-G/FeF3 cell delivers a high capacity of 461 mAh/g with an excellent stability of conversion reaction cycling.

Subcellular distribution, chemical forms and physiological responses involved in cadmium tolerance and detoxification in Agrocybe Aegerita

Xuedan Li,Hang Ma,LingLing Li,Yufeng Gao,Yunzhen Li,Heng Xu

A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the detoxification mechanism of Agrocybe aegerita ( A. aegerita ). The physiological responses , subcellular distribution and chemical forms of cadmium (Cd) in A. aegerita grown in Cd stress were analyzed. The results showed that the biomass was decreased under Cd stress, while the production of malonaldehyde, thiols, and low-molecular-weight organic acids (LWMOAs) as well as the antioxidant enzymes in A. aegerita was increased compared with control group. The HPLC results showed that nine LWMOAs were found in A. aegerita with critic acid as the dominant and they played important role in the detoxification and accumulation of Cd in A. aegerita . More Cd was accumulated in pileus than in stipe. Differential centrifugation technique showed that the majority of Cd was compartmentalized in the soluble fraction (53–75%) and bound to the cell wall (19–42%). The proportion of Cd in the cell wall increased with the increase of the accumulation of Cd in the fruiting body, but in the soluble fraction showed an opposite trend. Furthermore, most of the Cd in A. aegerita was mainly in the forms of NaCl- (29–49%) and ethanol-extractable Cd (20–40%). The ethanol- and water-extractable Cd in stipe (60–66%) was higher than in pileus (43–49%). Thus intracellular detoxification mechanisms of Cd in A. aegerita is related to subcellular partitioning and chemical forms of Cd and well-coordinated physiological responses.
