The SiCN/Fe/Ni ceramics codoped with iron acetylacetonate (FA) and nickle acetylacetonate (NA) was synthesized by polymer-derived ceramics (PDCs) method in this study. The microstructure, phase composition and electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption properties of the samples were analyzed. The polarization loss and conduction loss of materials were analyzed by the direct current (DC) multimeter and the contribution rate of polarization loss was more than 94% in the whole frequency band. The results showed that C, SiC, Fe 2 Si, Ni 3 Si, γ- (Fe, Ni) and CNTs were formed after pyrolysis which provided lots of heterogeneous interface and enhanced the interfacial polarization. Meanwhile, Ni could enter the lattice of Fe and formed a unique electronic configuration, which reinforced the conductivity and stability of Fe. In addition, the in-situ generated Fe 2 Si and Ni 3 Si provided magnetic loss and conduction loss. The RL min value of SiCN/Fe/Ni-3 ceramic was −52.06 dB at 1.54 mm and the effective absorption band (EAB, RL ≤ −10 dB) reached 4.21 GHz (13.79–18 GHz, 1.43 mm).

SO x released from the combustion of sulfur-containing compounds in fuels pollute the environment and have a serious impact on human health. Adsorption desulfurization is an effective and environmentally friendly technique for removing sulfur-containing compounds from fuels. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have high specific surface areas and can be easily modified and functionalized, making them excellent candidates for adsorption desulfurization in fuels. In this work, the precursor MIL-100(Fe)-SA was prepared using the hydrothermal method , and the adsorbent Ni@MIL-100(Fe)-SA was obtained by doping Ni 2+ into the resulting MIL-100(Fe)-SA using the impregnation method. FT-IR, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms were used to analyze the samples. The results indicated that Ni 2+ was successfully loaded onto MIL-100(Fe)-SA, and the MOF's structure remained stable. The adsorption performance of benzothiophene and thiophene was evaluated through batch adsorption experiments. The adsorption capacities of Ni@MIL-100(Fe)-SA for thiophene and benzothiophene were 23.68 mg S/g and 49.58 mg S/g, respectively. These observations could be ascribed to the π-complexation interactions between Ni 2+ of the framework and thiophenic compounds. The regeneration experiments demonstrated that the spent 11Ni@MIL-100(Fe)-SA-1.5 reach 86% of the adsorption capacity of fresh adsorbent after four cycles. Additionally, the regenerated adsorbent maintained good crystallinity after recycling.

Electrocatalytic water splitting to produce hydrogen is a promising route to provide green hydrogen on a large scale. To explore non-noble metal electrocatalysts with high performance is still a challenge. Herein, a one-step electrodeposition way is developed to construct the heterostructural (NiO-La 2 O 3 )/(Ni-La)/NiO/Ni electrocatalysts on Ni foam. The dark Ni-La coating was prepared by co-electrodeposition from an aqueous solution containing LaCl 3 and NiCl 2 with a molar concentration ratio of 1:5. Among these heterostructural Ni-based electrocatalysts, an excellent HER activity is achieved: an overpotential of 22 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH solution. It is demonstrated that the introduction of La significantly reduces the overpotential for HER. The higher the La content in the Ni-La coating of these electrocatalysts, the better the electrocatalytic HER performance was exhibited. This work provides a facile and inexpensive route to prepare Ni-La coating on electrodes in an aqueous solution.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) show promise and potential in energy storage but have limited applications due to their poor conductivity. In this work, a flexible fabric electrode is constructed with a sphere-flake-sphere structure formed by a nick-metal-framework (Ni-MOF) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO). The sphere-flake-sphere structure improves the conductivity and enhances the electrochemical performance of flexible RGO/Ni-MOF/metallic fabric electrodes (RNMEs). The areal capacitance of the RNME samples can reach 260 mF/cm 2 at a current density of 4 mA/cm 2 . The areal capacitance of RNME samples shows a good cycle stability after undergoing 2000 charging/discharging cycles. The all-solid-state asymmetric fabric supercapacitor (AAFSC) based on this hybrid and PPy fabric electrode shows excellent electrochemical energy-storage performance, with an areal capacitance of 95 mF/cm 2 , a power density of 3.07 mW/cm 2 , and an energy density of 7.72 μWh/cm 2 . The areal capacitance of AAFSC can keep over 70% of original areal capacitance after 1500 charging/discharging cycles. This flexible AAFSC shows a promise and potential for wearable textile electronics.

Transition metal sulfides are considered potential electrode materials for supercapacitors because of their low electronegativity, high electrochemical activity, and rich oxidation–reduction properties , but they also have the disadvantages of poor cycle stability and low magnification performance. In-situ growth sulfides on the current collector can strengthen the structural stability of the electrode to a certain extent, but this method only obtains a weak binding of the sulfide and current collector. With the progress of cycling, repeated structural evolution will inevitably lead to metal dissolution and sulfide shedding. In this study, nickel-poor reactants were cleverly adopted to synthesize one in-situ sulfide on nickel foam (NF) by activating the nickel element in NF to participate in the formation of sulfide, so as to obtain the in-situ electrode material with flower shape and gradient Ni content, named as Ni (2-x) CoS 4 /Ni 2 CoS 4 /Ni electrode. By further compounding polyaniline (PANI) on the surface of Ni (2-x) CoS 4 /Ni 2 CoS 4 /Ni electrode, the in-situ gradient Ni (2-x) CoS 4 /Ni 2 CoS 4 /Ni-PANI composite electrode (ISG-NCS-PANI) was obtained. This in-situ bimetallic sulfide has not only high stability, but also high reactivity. The flower shape with a large specific surface area is also beneficial to enhance the rate performance. As a result, the specific capacitance of the composite electrode is up to 2909.4 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 . After 5000 cycles, the capacity remains 83.8 %. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) composed of activated carbon (AC) negative electrode has a specific capacitance of 211.11 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 . The power density of 749.99 W kg −1 shows the maximum energy density of 65.97 Wh kg −1 . The above results prove that ISG-NCS-PANI electrode holds significant potential for application prospect in the domain of energy storage and conversion.

β-Ni(OH) 2 with good crystallinity is grown on the surface of the flower-like α-Ni(OH) 2 to form a 3D α@β-Ni(OH) 2 material by a two-step hydrothermal method . The synthesized β-Ni(OH) 2 is nanometer size and strong alkali stability, while the α-Ni(OH) 2 has a large specific surface, high specific capacity and good electrical conductivity , so there are multiple synergistic effects between the β-Ni(OH) 2 coating and the α-Ni(OH) 2 core. Coupled with a 3D flower-like structure, the obtained α@β-Ni(OH) 2 electrode shows a high capacity of 431 mAh g −1 at a current density of 1 A g −1 . Furthermore, we use the α@β-Ni(OH) 2 electrode and the activated carbon (AC) electrode to assemble an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device. This ASC shows the excellent energy density of 53 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 875 W kg −1 and capacity retention rate of 78% after 5000 cycles. Finally, metal hydride (MH) is used to replace the AC negative electrode, and a cell with a high energy density of 100.17 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 424.75 W kg −1 is obtained. The results show that α@β-Ni(OH) 2 electrode has better electrochemical performance than commercial electrodes and has application prospects in energy storage.

The development of composite materials is a key area of research for enhancing the electrochemical performance of electrode materials. In this study, NiCo–S nanostructured hybrid electrode materials were prepared on nickel foam (NF) by using binary metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as the sacrificial template through a two-step hydrothermal method. Ni–MOF was then deposited on the surface of NiCo–S/NF through the hydrothermal method and subsequently converted into Ni(OH) 2 through a subsequent alkalization treatment. The duration of the Ni–MOF hydrothermal process was varied as a parameter. NiCo–S@Ni–MOF/NF was prepared through hydrothermal reaction for 6 h, 9 h and 12 h, followed by heating in a 6 M KOH solution at 75 ∘ C for 6 h in a water bath. The electrode materials with the best morphology and electrochemical properties were obtained when the hydrothermal reaction time was 6 h. The optimized electrode had a specific capacity of 2533.2 F ⋅ g − 1 at 1 A ⋅ g − 1 and a capacity retention rate of 60.8% at 10 A ⋅ g − 1 , which indicated good rate performance. Additionally, the electrode material demonstrated excellent cycling stability, with a capacity retention rate of 95.3% after 5000 cycles at 50 mV ⋅ s − 1 . The energy density of the hybrid supercapacitor device assembled from this electrode material was 33.5 Wh ⋅ kg − 1 when the power density was 849.89 W ⋅ kg − 1 at a current density of 1 A ⋅ g − 1 .

The electrocatalytic co-reduction of nitrate (NO 3 − ) and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) into urea represents a potential avenue for achieving efficient urea production. However, this process involves intricate C–N coupling reactions and faces a severe kinetic mismatch between the reduction pathways. This disparity typically leads to a disproportionate coverage of key C- and N-containing intermediates on the catalyst surface, resulting in dominant competitive side reactions. Herein, we report the design of a heterogeneous FeNi@AC catalyst that integrates isolated Fe single atoms and Fe–Ni dual-atom sites at the atomic scale, enabling the efficient conversion of NO 3 − and CO 2 into urea. Combined experimental and theoretical investigations reveal that the isolated Fe single-atom sites retain high nitrate reduction capability. Crucially, the introduction of Ni induces an electronic reconfiguration of the Fe center, which significantly lowers the energy barrier for CO 2 activation (from 0.7 eV to 0.1 eV). This activation effectively bridges the kinetic gap between C- and N-species. Consequently, the FeNi@AC catalyst achieves a urea yield rate of 13.6 mmol g –1 h –1 and a Faradaic efficiency of 51.7% at –0.8 V (vs RHE). This work not only presents an active catalyst for urea synthesis but also provides a site-specific regulation strategy for designing multifunctional atomic-site catalysts tailored for complex tandem reactions.

To improve the DRM reaction performance of the catalysts, a series of Co–Ni/WC-AC catalysts are prepared by impregnation using WC-AC as the support. The structural features of the fresh and spent catalysts are characterized by BET, XRD , H 2 -TPR, XPS and TG . The results show that the introduction of Ni in the 20Co/WC-AC catalyst promotes the conversion of W species to WC. Further, WC enhances the interaction between the active metal and the support. Thus, the activity and sintering resistance of Co–Ni/WC-AC catalysts are improved. It is also found that the introduction of different ratios of Ni has a significant effect on the chemical environment (oxygen environment) on the catalyst surface.10Co–10Ni/WC-AC catalysts showed high surface O α and O β contents of 26% and 53%, respectively. The catalyst shows excellent catalytic performance. The conversion of CH 4 and CO 2 is stable at about 84% and 85% at 800 °C.

This study examined the toxicities of Fe/Ni and starch-stabilized Fe/Ni (S-Fe/Ni) nanoparticles (NPs) toward Escherichia coli . The inactivation of E. coli by Fe/Ni NPs was concentration- and time-dependent. Fe/Ni NPs exhibited a stronger toxicity than the bare Fe 0 NPs (i.e., Ni = 0 wt%), revealing that the loading of Ni increased the toxicity of Fe 0 NPs. However, there was no positive correlation between Ni content and the toxicity of Fe/Ni NPs when Ni content increased from 1 wt% to 5 wt%. The starch coating could alleviate the toxicity of Fe/Ni NPs, depending on starch concentration. Transmission Electron Microscopy analysis demonstrates that membrane disruption and cellular internalization of NPs occurred for E. coli after exposure to the Fe/Ni NPs. The NPs might have reacted with the carboxyl, ester and amine groups on the cell surface, as indicated by the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis. However, the S-Fe/Ni NPs did not cause obvious membrane disruption of the cells due to the effect of starch coating, which inhibited the close contact of NPs with cells by providing electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance. Besides, the addition of N-Acetyl-L-cysteine, as a potent scavenger for reactive oxygen species (ROS), remarkably reduced the toxicities of both Fe/Ni and S-Fe/Ni NPs, which indicated that the ROS-induced oxidative stress should be the primary mechanism for the inactivation of E. coli . The aging experiments evidenced that both Fe/Ni and S-Fe/Ni NPs would lose their toxic potential over time, posing less threat to the environment in the long term.

Ni(OH) 2 /CNTs/Ni(OH) 2 lamellar-crossing-nanostructure with a single lamellar spacing of ∼5 nm was effectively constructed through two-phase-interface reaction process followed by the CNTs crossed among the lamellar-nanostructured Ni(OH) 2 . The resultant nanocomposite can offer large active surface areas and short diffusion paths for electrons and ions, and is investigated as a potential pseudocapacitor electrode material for electrochemical energy storage applications. Electrochemical data demonstrate that the as-prepared nanocomposite exhibits a high specific capacitance of ∼1600 F g −1 at the scan rate of 1 mV s −1 in 6 M KOH solution at normal pressure and temperature, which is great higher than Ni(OH) 2 (∼1200 F g −1 ). Furthermore, Ni(OH) 2 /CNTs/Ni(OH) 2 nanocomposite shows a higher energy density (∼125 Wh kg −1 , 2 A g −1 ) and has a slightly decrease of 5% in specific capacitance after 1000 continuous charge/discharge cycles.

The production of cleaner gasoline requires reducing sulfur and olefin content in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) gasoline. Herein, Ni/ZSM-5@Ni/ZnO catalysts were synthesized by uniformly coating Ni/ZnO on the surface of Ni/ZSM-5 by electrostatic induced crystallization strategy for FCC gasoline desulfurization-aromatization tandem reactions. The desulfurization activity of Ni/ZSM-5@Ni/ZnO has superior desulfurization activity due to the smaller size of ZnO, higher O vacancy content, and more uniform dispersion of Ni and ZnO relative to the physically mixed Ni/ZSM-5-Ni/ZnO. In addition, coating Ni/ZnO on the surface of Ni/ZSM-5 can reduce the Brønsted acid content of Ni/ZSM-5, increase the Lewis/Brønsted acid value of the catalyst, which inhibits the excessive cracking of FCC gasoline, and improves the liquid yield and aromatics selectivity. After 8 h of reaction, the desulfurization rate, aromatics generation rate and olefin conversion rate of Ni/ZSM-5@Ni/ZnO were 85.58 %, 25.22 % and 49.08 % respectively, which were higher than those of physically mixed Ni/ZSM-5-Ni/ZnO catalysts by 25.34 %, 15.95, and 12.98 %, respectively. Meanwhile, the unique structure of Ni/ZSM-5@Ni/ZnO reduces carbon deposition and delays catalyst deactivation. Density functional theory calculations show that Ni/ZSM-5@Ni/ZnO was more favorable for thiophene desulfurization and has a better ability to adsorb and activate H 2 . This study provides a new idea for the development of catalysts for clean gasoline production.
