Abstract In this work, nickel/T-Nb 2 O 5 nanoparticles encapsulated in mesoporous carbon nanofibers (denoted as Ni/T-Nb 2 O 5 @CNFs) are successfully prepared through a simple electrospinning route and succedent heating treatment. The presence of Ni in carbon nanofibers is beneficial for enhancing the electronic conductivity and the initial Coulombic efficiency. Ni/T-Nb 2 O 5 nanoparticles are homogeneously incorporated in carbon nanofibers to form a nanocomposite system, which provides effective buffering during the lithiation/delithiation process for cycling stability. The Ni/T-Nb 2 O 5 @CNFs show high surface area (26.321 m 2 ·g −1 ) and mesoporous microstructure, resulting in higher capacity and excellent rate performance. The Ni/T-Nb 2 O 5 @CNFs exhibit a remarkable capacity of 437 mAh·g −1 at a current density of 0.5 A·g −1 after 230 cycles and a capacity of 173 mAh·g −1 at a current density up to 10.0 A·g −1 after 1400 cycles. This work indicates that nickel/T-Nb 2 O 5 nanoparticles encapsulated in carbon nanofibers can be a promising candidate for anode material in high-power LIBs. Graphic abstract

T-2 and HT-2 widely found in food products can seriously affect human and animal health. In this study, sterilized corn was inoculated with F. poae and incubated to allow fungal growth before being examined via liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) to determine the concentrations of T-2/HT-2. Broilers were then fed with a mix of moldy corn and normal feed at different ratios to obtain different toxin doses. After 35 days, the contaminated feed was replaced with mycotoxin-free feed and the distribution and concentration of residual toxins in the tissues and organs of the chickens were examined at different time points. The results showed that at the time of feed replacement (0 h), T-2 residue was present at significantly higher concentrations in the lungs and small intestines than in other tissues ( P < 0.05). In addition, T-2 concentrations increased in a dose-dependent manner in the tissues of chickens in the low-, medium-, and high-dose groups; however, the differences in concentration between the groups were not statistically significant. The HT-2 content (0 h) in the livers and small intestines was significantly higher than that in other tissues ( P < 0.05). At 48 h post-feed replacement, the concentration of T-2 dropped below detectable levels in all tissues while HT-2 could still be detected at 192 h post-feed replacement. Thus, this study reveals the distribution and persistence of residual T-2/HT-2 from moldy feed in broilers, providing a reference for the detection of these toxins in animal-derived food products and a theoretical basis for formulating food-safety and quality standards.

High performance and cost-effective electrocatalysts are crucial to the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in water splitting. Herein, we use density functional theory (DFT) calculation to systematically explore the catalytic activities of single-metallic organic frameworks (s-MOFs, such as Fe 36 C 108 O 156 ), dual-metallic organic frameworks (d-MOFs, such as Fe 26 Co 10 C 108 O 156 , Fe 30 Ni 6 C 108 O 156 ), and tri-metallic organic frameworks (t-MOFs, such as Fe 26 Ni 2 Co 8 C 108 O 156 ) for electrocatalytic OER. The DFT calculation and experimental results suggest that the OER performance could be promoted with reduced activation energy barrier and accelerated kinetics by introducing Co and Ni into the unit cell of Material of Institute Lavioisier (MIL). The optimized t-MOFs exhibited an ultra-low overpotential of only 200 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm −2 and a small Tafel slope of 34 mV dec −1 . This work proposes that the t-MOFs induced multi-metallic active sites and synergetic effect are promising strategies in designing highly efficient and robust OER electrocatalysts.

The solid–liquid equilibrium data of o-toluenesulfonamide in 16 pure organic solvents, including methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, isobutanol, n-pentanol, isopentanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, acetonitrile, cyclohexanone, cyclopentanone, methyl acetate, ethyl formate, and dichloromethane, were measured by a static gravimetric method with the temperature ranging from 273.15 to 323.85 K under atmospheric pressure. The results showed that the solubility of o-toluenesulfonamide increased with the increasing temperature in all the solvents studied. The experimental solubility data were correlated by the modified Apelblat equation, λh equation, nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) equation, and Wilson equation. All the models could be well employed, and the NRTL model gave the best fitting results.

Although adoptive T-cell therapy has been successful in hematological malignancy treatment, its application in solid tumors remains a great challenge. Here, using a pH-sensitive benzoic–imine bond and inverse electron-demand Diels–Alder cycloaddition, we prepared magnetic nanoclusters (NCs) armed with responsive PD-1 antibody (aP), which could then bind onto effector T cells due to their PD-1 expression. After adoptive transfer, the magnetization and superparamagnetism of NCs enabled us to magnetically recruit effector T cells and aP simultaneously to tumor sites with MRI guidance. Owing to the acidic intratumoral microenvironment, the benzoic–imine bond then hydrolyzed, leading to the release of aP. The therapeutic effects of adoptive T cells and free aP could thus be spatiotemporally coupled. As a result, we achieved inhibition of tumor growth with few side effects, demonstrating the great promise of such a chemical approach for safe and high-performance adoptive T-cell therapy against solid tumors.

The timely warning of the germination of bacterial spores and their prevention are highly important to minimize their potential detrimental effects and for disease control. Thus, a sensitive and selective assay of biomarkers is most desirable. In this work, a nanoprobe is constructed by conjugating lanthanide upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) and eriochrome black T (EBT). The nanoprobe, UCNPs−TPP/EBT, serves as a platform for the detection of the anthrax biomarker, dipicolinic acid (DPA). In principle, DPA displaces EBT from the UCNPs−TPP/EBT nanoconjugate, resulting in a color change from magenta to blue because of the release of free EBT into the aqueous solution. The binding sites on UCNPs are partly preblocked with TPP as the placeholder molecule, leaving a desired number of binding sites for EBT conjugation. On the basis of this dye displacement reaction, a novel colorimetric assay protocol for DPA is developed, deriving a linear calibration range from 2 to 200 μM with a detection limit of 0.9 μM, which is well below the infectious dose of the spores (60 μM). The assay platform exhibits excellent anti-interference capability when treating a real biological sample matrix. The present method is validated by the analysis of DPA in human serum, and its practical application is further demonstrated by monitoring the DPA release upon spore germination.

Photocatalysts suffer from a lack of separation of photogenerated excitons due to the fast recombination of charge carriers, so a strong synergistic effect exhibited by photocatalysts is promising for effective photocatalysis. Herein, we have synthesized efficient visible light functionalized graphene oxide nanosheet (FGS)/ZnO nanocomposite photocatalysts via a simple and economical approach with large scale production for practical applications. A series of nanocomposites (FGS/ZnO NCs) with different amounts by weight of graphene oxide (GO) have been synthesized via a facile solution route followed by calcination under environmental conditions. The phase, purity and morphological studies of the synthesized FGS/ZnO NCs were carried out using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The optical properties were studied using UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). XRD results confirm the formation of a pure phase of ZnO in the FGS/ZnO NCs and TEM results show strongly adhered ZnO NPs on the surface of the FGS. DRS results confirm the extension of light absorption in the visible region while PL results confirm the effective separation of charge carriers in 0.09 wt% FGS/ZnO NCs. The synthesized photocatalyst efficiently degrades carcinogenic safranin-T dye under visible light illumination which is reported for the first time using FGS/ZnO nanocomposites. Photocatalytic studies confirm the higher photocatalytic activity of 0.09 wt% FGS/ZnO NCs (about 94.5%) towards the photodegradation of safranin-T dye in aqueous solution under visible light. The improved photocatalytic activity of 0.09 wt% FGS/ZnO NCs can be ascribed to the integrative synergistic effects of the enhanced adsorption capacity of safranin-T dye, effective separation of photogenerated excitons and effective interfacial hybridization of FGS and ZnO NCs. The generation of reactive oxygen species was confirmed using terephthalic acid as a probe molecule and a scavenger test was conducted in presence of histidine.

Based on specific homo-A/T DNA binding properties, a strategy for coralyne and mercury ions detection was realised by exonuclease-aided signal amplification . Coralyne could specifically bind homo-A DNA and protect it from the hydrolysis of exonuclease I. The coralyne-protected DNA was subsequently used as a trigger strand to hydrolyze DNA2 in exonuclease-aided signal amplification process. Thiazole orange was used to quantify the remainder DNA2. Under the optimal condition, the fluorescence intensity was linearly proportional to the concentration of coralyne in the range of 0.2–100 nM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.31 nM, which presented the lowest LOD for coralyne among all reported. With homo-T and Hg 2+ taking the place of homo-A DNA and coralyne, respectively, the system could also be used for Hg 2+ detection. The experiments in real samples also showed good results. This method was label-free, low-cost, easy-operating and highly repeatable for the detection of coralyne and mercury ions. It could also be extended to detect various analytes, such as other metal ions, proteins and small molecules by using appropriate aptamers.

The solubility of 2-methylnaphthalene in different organic solvents was experimentally studied by the equilibrium method at temperatures from (278.15 to 303.15) K under atmospheric pressure. The solubility of 2-methylnaphthalene in all solvents increased with the increasing temperature. The solubility data were correlated with four thermodynamic models including the van’t Hoff equation, modified Apelblat equation, λh equation, and Wilson model. It was found that the calculated solubility with modified Apelblat equation provided a good agreement with the experimental values for the solubility behavior of 2-methylnaphthalene. The thermodynamic properties of the standard dissolution enthalpy, standard entropy, and the standard mole Gibbs free energy were evaluated based on the van’t Hoff analysis. The values of enthalpy of dissolution are positive, which indicate that the dissolution process of 2-methylnaphthalene in different organic solvents is endothermic.

Densities and viscosities of glycine, l-alanine, l-valine, l-threonine, and l-arginine in aqueous solutions of (0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0) mol·kg–1 mannitol have been measured in the temperature range of (293.15 to 323.15) K under atmospheric pressure; then the measured densities and viscosities of experimental systems were correlated. These data were further used to calculate the apparent molar volumes (Vφ), the limiting partial molar volumes (Vφ0), the limiting partial molar volumes of transfer (ΔtrVφ0), the viscosity B-coefficients, and the free energies of activation per mole of solvent (Δμ10≠) and solute (Δμ20≠). The results were interpreted through solute–solute interaction and solute–solvent interaction on the basis of the cosphere overlap model and transition state theory.

A maltose, L-rhamnose sensor based on porous Cu foam and electrochemical techniques was investigated in this paper. Cu foam material was prepared and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The electro-oxidation reaction process of sweeteners occurred on Cu foam electrode was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) scanning. At an applied potential of 0.5 V, the linear range for maltose is 0.18–3.47 mM with sensitivity of 1.0492 mA cm −2 mM −1 . The limit of detection (LOD) was 15.86 μM (S/N = 3). The linear range for maltose is 0.18–3.47 mM with sensitivity of 0.6881 mA cm −2 mM −1 . The LOD was 24.18 μM (S/N = 3). Compared with Cu sheet electrode, Cu foam electrode showed higher current response towards maltose and L-rhamnose, leading to enhanced electrocatalytic activity, higher sensitivity, and lower LOD. Sweetener qualitative discrimination was carried out by stochastic resonance (SR) signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) spectrum eigen peak located noise intensities.

The aqueous hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of renewable biomass is an effective method to produce alternative fuels and high-value-added chemicals. Nonetheless, metal leaching and support collapse are the main obstacles in aqueous HDO. Herein, a series of Ni/T-Nb2O5@C catalysts were successfully prepared for selective HDO of vanillin (a typical lignin-derived model compound). Characterization results revealed that the superior catalytic performance of Ni/T-Nb2O5@C catalysts was due to the efficient adsorption of the reactant preferentially via oxygen vacancies and the excellent selection of deoxygenated products via acid sites on the catalyst surface. Meanwhile, water can interact with vanillyl alcohol (VA) through hydrogen bonding to form a more stable transition state, further reducing the activation energy of the VA hydrogenolysis process and promoting the conversion of VA to 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol (MMP). Ni/T-Nb2O5@C2-2 catalyst exhibited excellent performance for vanillin HDO, achieving 99.9% conversion, 96.6% MMP selectivity, and 87.7% mass yield at 150 °C for 1 h, 1 MPa H2, and a water:ethanol ratio of 8:12, which greatly improved the MMP selectivity (79.2%) of unmodified Ni/T-Nb2O5 catalyst. Moreover, the catalyst had good catalytic capability after eight cycles of less than 25% conversion, and the retention of the initial active substance during the reaction was analyzed. This work may provide insights into the rational design of composite-supported catalysts for biomass-derived compounds HDO in the aqueous phase.
