A novel nanoassembly was constructed through encapsulating upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) into a metal–organic framework structure (ZIF-8), in which doxorubicin (DOX) was absorbed into pores of ZIF-8. The blue emission of UCNPs was quenched by DOX through the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) strategy. When the nanoprobe was exposed to food samples with different pH values, ZIF-8 collapsed to release DOX molecules, resulting in upconversion recovery. The porous structure of ZIF-8 provides abundant space for DOX absorption, which significantly improves the detection capacities and accuracy. It is shown that the probe has a good linear relationship when pH values vary from 2.5 to 7.4, and can distinguish pH variations as low as 0.5 in real samples. This strategy has been successfully used to determine food spoilage by determination of pH variations. Graphical abstract

The efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has surpassed all other thin-film solar cells. It is well known that the mismatch between the perovskite film and electron transport layer is an important factor to damage the stability of PSCs. Herein, an effective modification strategy to improve stability by using FAI@ZIF-8 is demonstrated. It is found that the FAI@ZIF-8 modification reduces the trap-state density of the perovskite by slowly releasing FAI from the ZIF-8 pore. Besides, FAI@ZIF-8 improves energy-level alignment at TiO 2 /perovskite interface, which facilitates electron extraction at the interface. As a consequence, an optimal power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.52% is achieved for the FAI@ZIF-8-treated PSCs. After storing under 20–30% relative humidity and room temperature for 2000 h, the FAI@ZIF-8-treated device sustains 96% of its initial PCE; nevertheless, the control device maintains only 73% of its initial PCE under the same conditions. This strategy is helpful to guide the development of high-performance PSCs and promotes commercialization of perovskite materials.

Herein, based on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and zeolite-like imidazole skeleton material (ZIF-8), a spatio-temporal controllable photothermal/ chemical dynamic/ chemotherapy three modal synergistic anti-tumor nano-carrier (HAZD) was developed. HAZD has a size of 128.75 ± 11.86 nm, a drug loading ratio of 21.5 ± 2.2% and an encapsulation efficiency of 71.8 ± 1.7%. Stability, acid responsive release character, outstanding catalytic ability to generate ROS, relatively high thermal conversion efficiency up to 62.38% and spatio-temporal controllable abilities are also found within this nano-carrier. Furthermore, HAZD performed good antitumor ability in vivo with the comprehensive effects of photothermal/ chemical dynamic/ chemotherapy. The tumor growth inhibition value is 97.1% within 12 days, indicating its great potential in multi-modal synergistic cancer therapy. Statement of Significance : Cancer remains one of the major culprits that seriously harm human health currently. With the development of materials and nanotechnology, great improvements have been made in multimodal anti-tumor strategies. However, temporal- and spatial-controllable multi-modal synergistic nanocarriers are urgently awaited for efficient and low-toxicity tumor therapy. This article proposes a spatio-temporally controllable three-modal anti-tumor strategy and designs an anti-tumor drug delivery system based on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and zeolite-like imidazole skeleton material (ZIF-8), which shows acid-responsive release characteristics, catalytic ability to generate ROS, relatively high thermal conversion efficiency up to 62.38%, as well as spatio-temporal controllable abilities. Moreover, it demonstrates outstanding anti-tumor ability, with a tumor growth inhibition value of 97.1% within 12 days, revealing its significant potential for future personalized and precise anti-tumor treatments.

In order to better disperse zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) in aqueous solution for thin film nanocomposite (TFN) membrane fabrication, hydrophilic ZIF-8 was prepared by polydopamine modification. After the interfacial polymerization (IP) reaction, PDA-ZIF-8 nanoparticles were evenly entrapped in the polyamide (PA) matrix. The as-obtained PA layer demonstrated better hydrophilicity, higher surface roughness, and less cross-linking degree. Therefore, the water permeability increased by 66 % compared to the thin film composite (TFC) membrane without nanofillers. Moreover, due to the improved compatibility of PDA-ZIF-8 as well as the stronger negatively charged membrane surface, the retention of SO 4 2− was slightly enhanced, and the retention of rhodamine B was well maintained. The hydrophilic modification of ZIF-8 by PDA was a facile method to improve its compatibility with the PA polymer, and the resultant TFN membrane demonstrated elevated water permeability without compromising its selectivity.

ZIF-8@GO-X (X = 0, 2.48%, 4.07%, 7.83%, and 20.03%) composites were prepared using GO and ZIF-8. The composites were used to absorb Cu(Ⅱ) from aqueous solutions. With increasing GO content, the adsorption of the ZIF-8@GO-X composites first increased and then decreased. The Cu(Ⅱ) adsorption of ZIF-8@GO-7.83% reaches a maximum among ZIF-8@GO-X composites (X = 0, 2.48%, 4.07%, 7.83%, and 20.03%). The adsorption kinetics , adsorption isotherm , adsorption thermodynamics, and adsorption mechanism of Cu (II) by ZIF-8@GO-7.83% were studied in this paper. The results showed that the adsorption reached equilibrium at 120 min, and ZIF-8@GO-7.83% approached equilibrium relatively quickly. When the temperature was 45 °C and the Cu(Ⅱ) concentration was 40 mg/L, the maximum adsorption capacity of ZIF-8@GO-7.83% for Cu(Ⅱ) reached 482.29 mg/g. The equilibrium data and kinetics were well described by Langmuir and pseudo-first-order models, respectively. Final experiments with real factory wastewater (initial Cu(Ⅱ) concentration of 670 mg/L) revealed that 0.37 g/L ZIF-8@GO-7.83% can efficiently reduce the Cu(Ⅱ) concentration to below 2 mg/L.

Considering the photocatalytic performance of CDs, ZnO, and the unique porous nanostructure and stability of ZIF-8, we prepared ZnCDs/ZnO@ZIF-8 zeolite composites. The resultant material represented an enhanced ability for the photodegradation of TC compared with that of ZnCDs and ZnO. The photocatalytic degradation efficiency reached over 85%. The catalytic activity of the composites was maintained after four cycles. The experimental result indicated that ⋅O2radical was the active species in the reaction. Keywords:carbon dots;zeolite composites;photocatalytic;tetracycline

The most important thing to do with hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) removal in wastewater through adsorption-reduction method is to find an adsorbent that has both strong adsorbability and reducibility. Herein, an eco-friendly material ZIF-8-EGCG, which was a combination of epicatechin gallate (EGCG) and ZIF-8, was synthesized to treat Cr(VI)-containing wastewater. At room temperature, the maximum adsorption amount of Cr(VI) reached 136.96 mg·g −1 , and the Cr(VI) reduction rate (96%) was much better than that of the original ZIF-8 (37%). Such outcome was among the best in the existing studies using MOFs to treat Cr(VI). In addition, the characterization results showed that the surface of ZIF-8-EGCG was electronegative. The material was irregular sphere with pore size of 7.12 nm and BET surface area of 113.02 m 2 ·g −1 . The well-fitted Langmuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo first/second-order kinetics model suggested that the adsorption of Cr(VI) on ZIF-8-EGCG was governed by both physical and chemical processes. Stability results revealed that the overall stability of ZIF-8-EGCG due to the etched structure was slightly inferior to ZIF-8, especially at higher temperatures (>35 °C). Simultaneously, the reaction between ZIF-8-EGCG and Cr(VI) was a spontaneous, exothermic, entropic decrease process.

A HDBB@ZIF-8 fluorescent probe has been developed by encapsulating the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) molecule 4,4’-(hydrazine-1,2-diylidenebis(methanylylidene)) bis(3-hydroxybenzoic acid) (HDBB) into the nanochannels of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) for distinguishing small alcohol solvent molecules. The crystal structure and morphology of ZIF-8 are well maintained after the encapsulation of HDBB molecules. Encapsulation of HDBB into the confined nanospace of ZIF-8 not only triggered new green fluorescent emission but also endowed them with unique carbon chain length-dependent fluorescence intensity for alcohols, which has not been observed in pure HDBB and ZIF-8. This property could be attributed to the alcohol–water sorption selectivity of host ZIF-8. Moreover, a linear relationship is obtained between the fluorescent intensity of these composites and the concentrations of ethanol with a wide linear range, which could be employed as a chemosensor to detect the content of ethanol in the real wine sample.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are capable in capture and storage of iodine ions with high efficiency, and polymer/MOF nanocomposite membrane has the potential to be used for efficient removal of iodine from radioactive wastewater. In this work, we have reported a PVDF/ZIF-8 nanocomposite adsorption membrane prepared by contra-diffusion method. The combination of surface graft of poly(4-vinylpyridien) brushes and optimal addition of sodium formate into ligand contributes to the formation of a well-intergrown and continuous ZIF-8 layer on the metal ions side surface of PVDF- g -P4VP membrane. In the batch adsorption, the PVDF/ZIF-8 nanocomposite membrane exhibits high affinity for iodine following a pseudo-second-order kinetics and fitting the Freundlich isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 73.33 mg/g. In the dynamic adsorption, the PVDF/ZIF-8 nanocomposite membrane exhibits a high flux of 66.19 L/(m 2 ⋅h⋅MPa) and an iodine removal efficiency of 73% until 180 min. Initial iodine concentration has a little influence on the iodine removal efficiency, but solution pH shows a significant effect. The iodine removal efficiency can be maintained around 92% in a weakly alkaline medium of pH = 8. The PVDF/ZIF-8 nanocomposite membrane possesses an excellent reusability with an iodine removal efficiency of 73.4% after five cycles.

Zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) with tunable pore sizes and high surface areas have recently emerged as a promising support for immobilizing enzymes. However, the instability in the aqueous acidic environment and difficulty of recovery has limited their practical applications in some cases. In this study, catalase/ZIF-8 composites with a protective nanocoating were prepared by the controlled self-assembly of silanes or coordination complexes (tannic acid (TA) and Fe3+). The properties of the catalase (CAT)/ZIF-8 composites with a protective nanocoating were also determined. The recovered activity of CAT/ZIF-8 and CAT/ZIF-8 with protective nanocoating was 70% and 65%, respectively. Compared with the conventional CAT/ZIF-8 composites, CAT/ZIF-8 with protective nanocoating exhibited excellent acid resistance. For example, after treatment for 60 min in phosphate buffer solution (pH 3.0), CAT/ZIF-8 composites only maintained 20% of their initial activity (about 12 U/mg). However, CAT/ZIF-8 with a protective nanocoating could still retain about 50% of its initial activity (about 10 U/mg). Meanwhile, the thermostability and storage stability of the CAT/ZIF-8 composites was enhanced significantly due to the presence of nanocoating compared with conventional CAT/ZIF-8. More importantly, the CAT/ZIF-8 with a protective nanocoating retained 40% of its initial activity after 7 cycles, whereas CAT/ZIF-8 only retained 8% of the initial activity. The approach in this study could be an efficient strategy to prepare enzyme/ZIF-8 composites with both high acid resistance and excellent recyclability.Keywords:enzyme/ZIF-8 nanocomposites;nanocoating;stability;acid resistance

Well dispersed Fe 3 O 4 embedded ZIF-8 nanocrystals were synthesized through a facile co-precipitation approach. Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) and magnetic hysteresis loop analysis revealed that the hybrid nanoparticles with large surface areas exhibited good magnetic properties. The magnetic Fe 3 O 4 /ZIF-8 nanocomposites were used to remove hydroquinone (HQ) from aqueous solution. HQ adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order, and the equilibrations were established between 100 and 200 min. The adsorption isotherms of the nanocomposites could be described very well by the Langmuir equation with ultra-high maximum adsorption capacity of 2527 mg g −1 . Besides, the used Fe 3 O 4 /ZIF-8 could be conveniently regenerated by washing with methanol, and the regeneration efficiency could remain 90% after 3 cycles of regeneration. Along with the magnetic separation ability, the as-prepared Fe 3 O 4 /ZIF-8 nanocomposites might be promising candidate for efficient wastewater purification.

A porous carbon (ZC) was prepared at 900 °C using zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) as a solid template for CO 2 adsorption. The ZC was further treated by ammonia functionalization to improve CO 2 uptake. The textural and surface characteristics of ZC samples were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N 2 adsorption, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was revealed that ammonia treatment at 600 °C considerably enhanced the specific surface area and N-content of ZC. However, the pyrrolic-N group was decreased, yet the pyridinic-N group was increased with an increased temperature. The pyrrolic-N significantly enhanced CO 2 adsorption. The ammonia treatment, on the one hand, increases the alkalinity of ZC sample and the base–acid interaction between N-containing functional groups with CO 2 . On the other hand, the ammonia treatment increased pyrrolic-N group (NH) into carbon surface facilitating the hydrogen-bonding interactions between proton of pyrrolic-N and CO 2 molecules.
