Antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains have become an ever-increasing public concern due to their significant threats to health safety. Nanomaterial-based photothermal treatment has shown potential in antibacterial applications, but many nanomaterials exhibited limited photothermal activity that may compromise their antibacterial efficacies. Herein, we report a novel strategy based on efficient photothermal ablation and physical contact over a supported nanostructure by loading Au nanoparticles (NPs) on few-layered Ti3C2Tx nanosheets (NSs) for antibacterial treatment. Ti3C2Tx NSs are delaminated via etching and sonication, and act as a reductant for the in situ reduction of HAuCl4·xH2O, producing “naked” Au NPs without any stabilizers. Meanwhile, by adjusting the Au/Ti ratio, the size and loading of the Au NPs are finely regulated, thereby providing an ideal model of a surface-clean Au@Ti3C2Tx heterostructure for probing the composition–performance relationship. Upon irradiation with visible light, it exhibits synergistically enhanced photothermal conversion efficiency and stability, owing to the localized surface plasmonic resonance effect of Au NP and Au–NS interactions. Moreover, under visible light irradiation for 10 min, the Au@ Ti3C2Tx heterostructure exhibits excellent antibacterial activity for Gram-positive S. aureus and Gram-negative E. coli, and kills over 99% bacteria with a low dose of the nanomedicine suspension (50 μg mL−1). The work demonstrates that the incorporation of transition metal carbides with plasmonic metal nanostructures is an effective strategy to enhance the photothermal antibacterial efficacy.

In this work, an ultrasensitive and selective electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor with Au-tetrahedral aptamer nanostructure (Au-TAN) for acetamiprid detection was developed, which employed luminescence property of luminol and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) as a co-reactant to apply the prepared Au-TAN to the luminescence systems. Au-TAN was prepared to modify an electrode surface via an Au-S bond to form a stable tetrahedral nanostructure. Fixed on the surface of the working electrode, Au-TAN could not only enhance the function of the aptamer but also boost the sensing performance. At the same time, Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) of the Au-TAN could also catalyze H 2 O 2 , thereby enhancing the luminescence performance of this aptasensor. The pH of the buffer solution, the concentration of H 2 O 2 and the concentration of Au-TAN were optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the aptasensor had a detection limit of 0.0576 pM (S/N = 3), which was lower than those of other aptasensors for acetamiprid detection. Moreover, the weak alkaline environment explored in the experiment could expand its application range. Above all, the proposed method presented a high accuracy and sensitivity.

Eggshell membrane (ESM) has a unique three-dimensional (3D) interwoven fibrous structure and can provide a unique supporting platform for functional nanoparticles . This work reports a novel strategy for fabricating photothermal conversion hybrid membranes by loading boron nitride (BN) and noble metal nanoparticles (Au or Ag) on the 3D network structured eggshell membrane. This hybrid bio-membrane combines the localized surface plasmonization resonance (LSPR) effects of Au (Ag) and the high thermal conductivity of BN, which led to the hybrid bio-membrane responsive to simulated sunlight irradiation and substantially enhanced photothermal conversion effect. The optimal hybrid bio-membrane achieved a high temperature of 88.3 ℃ after irradiation for 100 s under simulated sunlight. This work provides a strategy for designing advanced photothermal conversion materials for drug release and photothermal therapy applications.

The optoelectronic performance of CsPbBr 3 nanocrystal (NC) has been dramatically limited by the severe charge carrier recombination and its narrow light absorption range, which are anticipated to be resolved via coupling with plasmonic Au nanoparticle (NP). In view of this, CsPbBr 3 –Au nanocomposite is fabricated and further employed as a concept model to study the electronic interaction between perovskite NC and Au NP for the first time. It has been found that the excitation-wavelength dependent carrier transfer behavior exists in CsPbBr 3 –Au nanocomposite. Upon illumination with visible light ( λ >420 nm), photo-generated electrons in CsPbBr 3 can inject into Au with an electron injection rate and efficiency of 2.84 × 10 9 s −1 and 78%, respectively. The boosted charge separation is further translated into a 3.2-fold enhancement in CO 2 photocatalytic reduction activity compared with pristine CsPbBr 3 . On the other hand, when solely exciting Au NP with longer wavelength light ( λ >580 nm), the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) induced hot electrons in Au NPs can transfer to CsPbBr 3 NC and further participate in photocatalytic reaction towards CO 2 reduction. The present study provides new insights into preparing plasmonic nanostructure to enhance the performance of perovskite based optoelectronic devices.

Ultrasmall precious metal clusters have attracted extensive attention for providing a very specific surface and promoting electron transfer. In this work, ultrasmall Au clusters based on defective TiO2 nanosheets (Au/D-TiO2) were prepared and introduced into photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. Different defects of TiO2 nanosheets (D-TiO2) were constructed using a heating process and then loaded with Au clusters. Compared with bare TiO2, Au clusters established on defective TiO2 nanosheets with a narrower band gap showed higher light absorption performances, resulting in obviously enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production performances. The Au/D-TiO2 displayed the greatly enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity of 3,142.33 μmol h−1 g−1, which was over 45 times than the pure TiO2. The results showed that the catalysts had good prospects in the field of photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Pepsin is an active digestive enzyme present in the acidic environment of animal stomachs, and has been widely used to prepare bioactive peptides in the food industry. In this work, a simple fluorescence sensor for scissor-based detection of pepsin activity was developed by using lysozyme-stabilized gold nanoclusters (AuNCs@Lyz) in aqueous media. Under acidic conditions (pH 3.0), enzymatic digestion of AuNCs@Lyz with pepsin results in a significant decrease of fluorescence intensity. Notably, its acidic environment not only helps maintain the maximum fluorescence of gold nanoclusters, but also ensures the highest enzymatic activity of pepsin. In addition to offering high selectivity because of the unique proteolytic action of pepsin under acidic conditions, this facile method provides high sensitivity. With the sensing system, the linear range for pepsin detection is found to be 1 μg mL−1 to 100 μg mL−1, with a detection limit of 0.256 μg mL−1 at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3. Furthermore, the AuNCs@Lyz based fluorescent sensing system could find applications in highly sensitive and selective detection of pepsin in food and biological samples.

Due to the harm of metal mercury to the environment and the human body, there is an urgent need for exploring novel, simple, and reliable methods for the detection of Hg 2+ . Herein, a colorimetric method is proposed for the determination of Hg 2+ based on the analyte inducing the aggregation of Glutathione-modified gold nanoflowers (GSH-Au NFs) with activated peroxidase-mimicking activity. Briefly, highly dispersed GSH-Au NFs show negligible enzyme-like activity in water. When Hg 2+ is added, GSH-Au NFs would aggregate rapidly for the interaction of Hg 2+ with the carboxyl and amine groups of GSH. And the aggregates exhibit high peroxidase-mimicking catalytic activity and can catalyze the color reaction of 3, 3′, 5, 5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of H 2 O 2 . Based on these phenomena, an ultrasensitive colorimetric detection method of Hg 2+ has been developed. The linear range of this method is 10–300 nM and the detection limit is down to 3.9 nM, which is much lower than the standard value specified by the US EPA. The accuracy of the method has been verified in water samples, which reveals its great potential in environmental monitoring.

Transition metal oxide (TMO)-decorated TiO 2 catalysts excel at low-temperature Hg 0 oxidation. However, TMOs are typically found in large nanoparticles (NPs), resulting in a lower atom utilization efficiency. The current paper presents the design of an Au single atom (SA)-doped Ti 4+ defected TiO 2 (Au SAC-Ti 1-x O 2 ) and investigations concerning the influence of an O-Au-O coordination environment on Hg 0 oxidation. Au SAC-Ti 1-x O 2 was designed using an O-Au-O coordination environment and the O-Au-O orbital interaction was elucidated using density functional theory (DFT). The enhanced oxidative capability of lattice oxygen atoms and the interaction between Hg 0 and oxygen atoms were investigated. The O-Au-O coordination environment containing Au SAC Ti 1-x O 2 was then synthesized and characterized using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), etc. Finally, Hg 0 oxidation catalytic activity was determined. Due to the increasing population of Au-O antibonding orbital interactions in the valence band, the bond order of O-Au-O in Au SAC Ti 1-x O 2 decreased significantly, thereby enhancing the oxidation ability of its adjacent oxygen atoms. Au SA and ultra-small Au clusters coexisted on a Ti 1-x O 2 catalyst, and the Hg 0 -oxidation efficiency at 150–200 °C was 14 times and 1.5 times greater than those of TiO 2 and 0.1 % Au/TiO 2 , respectively. Furthermore, Au SAC Ti 1-x O 2 was more resistant to the inhibition of SO 2 and NO. It provides an efficient method for developing highly active SA catalysts for Hg 0 oxidation.

The green cyanide-free gold deposition is an important development direction in electroless gold plating. However, the commonly Au(I) based cyanide-free gold plating bath always suffers from severe corrosion to the Ni–P layer and unsatisfactory service life of the bath. In this work, a green and environmentally friendly cyanide-free gold plating bath was developed with hypophosphite added as a reducing agent into the Au(III)–DMH (5,5-dimethylhydantoin) based plating bath to retard the corrosion of the Ni–P layer. SEM micrographs combined with XRD and XPS analysis indicated that the electroless deposited gold was pure and compact. And XRD also revealed that the oriented deposition of gold was growing preferentially on Au (111). Corrosion tests, including salt spray tests, potentiodynamic polarization tests, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests, indicated that the obtained Cu/Ni–P/Au coatings had significantly improved corrosion resistance performance with the loading of hypophosphite as the reducing agent. The baths remained transparent and no turbidity or precipitates were detected for 210 days, reflecting good stability. The detection for the Ni2+ concentration in the bath showed that adding hypophosphite could retard the replacement reaction between Au3+ and the Ni–P layer in part and this is important for decreasing the severe corrosion of the Ni–P layer. Moreover, Au was inactive for catalyzing the oxidation of hypophosphite during the deposition process which was confirmed furthermore via quantum chemical calculations. Therefore, our developed green cyanide-free electroless gold deposition process can beneficially provide research value and application prospects in microelectronic industry.

The practical adoption of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology is often hampered by the high cost, complex fabrication, and poor reproducibility of conventional substrates, which typically rely on noble metals or inefficient semiconductors. Herein, we address key challenges in the practical commercialization of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology by reporting a facile, scalable, and environmentally benign strategy for fabricating a hybrid SERS substrate. This approach integrates Au nanoparticles (NPs) with hydrothermally synthesized WO3nanowires through a green photoreduction process, which is rapid, organic-solvent-free, and amenable to large-scale production. The design of the Au/WO3nanocomposite capitalizes on the synergistic effect between electromagnetic (EM) enhancement from Au NPs and chemical mechanism (CM) enhancement via charge transfer involving the WO3semiconductor. This synergy empowers the substrate with exceptional SERS activity, enabling the sensitive detection of Rhodamine 6G (R6G) down to 10−11M and yielding an enhancement factor (EF) of 4.09 × 106. More importantly, this EM-CM synergy proves critical for detecting molecules with weak affinity, such as the nerve agent simulant dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP), achieving a significant signal enhancement of 102–103times, which is notably challenging for conventional plasmonic substrates. Beyond sensitivity, the substrate exhibits excellent reproducibility and operational stability, which are paramount for real-world applications. This work presents a nanohybrid strategy that successfully balances scalability, stability, and sensitivity, offering a reliable and cost-effective pathway for advancing SERS technologies toward practical implementation.

The photoluminescence (PL) quenching of thioglycolic acid (TGA)-capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs) by glutathione (GSH)-capped Au nanocrystals (NCs) were investigated via PL degradated measurement. It was found that the PL of the QDs with several sizes can be effectively quenched by GSH-Au
NCs. The size and PL peak wavelengths of QDs have no significant impact on the quenching processing. Through the characterizations of UV-visble absorption spectrum, Zeta potential and steady-state, and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, it was proved that the PL quenching of the QDs
by GSH-Au NCs was attributed to static quenching caused by the formation of a QDs- Au complex. The binding parameters calculated from modified Stern–Volmer equation showed that the binding affinities between the GSH-Au NCs and CdTe QDs was in the order of 105 L ·mol−1,
which indicated that the binding force was larger and the effective quenching occurred. The thermodynamic parameters studies revealed that the binding was characterized by positive enthalpy and positive entropy changes and hydrophobic force played a major role for QDs-Au association. In addition,
all the quenching experiments were conducted in the phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) buffer solution at pH 7.4 and the investigation is expected to be applied in the biology.

Herein a split-type photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor based on in situ grown gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) on the surface of ZnO microrods (ZnO MRs) was devised for the detection of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) by employing dopamine (DA)-loaded liposomes as the signal amplification strategy. Specifically, as the level of AFP rises, a proportional number of sandwich-type immunocomplexes form in the well of the microplate, which can introduce a corresponding amount of DA-encapsulated liposomes at the same time. Encapsulated DA molecules will be released with the stimulation of Triton X-100, thereby resulting in the marked enhancement of the PEC signal. Under optimized conditions, the proposed PEC immunosensing platform displays specific photocurrent responses toward AFP in a broad dynamic working range of 0.05 −50 ng mL −1 , achieving an impressively low limit of detection (LOD) of 18.7 pg mL −1 . Furthermore, this methodology not only displays high specificity, and satisfactory storage stability but also ensures acceptable accuracy and practicality for the analytical applications of human serum samples.
