Bidentate oxalate ion enhancing water-resistant stability and exciton recombination behavior of blue CsPb(Br/Cl)3 quantum dots

Le Ma,Xiansheng Li,Xuehan Chen,Jingyu Li,Pengfei Liu,Changting Wei,Qingshan Ma,Leimeng Xu,Wenhua Zhang,Jizhong Song

Mixed halide CsPb(Br/Cl) 3 quantum dots (QDs) exhibit fine tunable blue light and narrow photoluminescence (PL) full-width at half-maximum (FWHM), which has attracted significant attention as a promising candidate to realize a new generation of blue light technology. However, the introduction of Cl − makes it very easy to be eroded by water in the environment, which will lead to deep-level defects and degrade the luminescence and stability of QDs. Here, we propose to introduce tetra- n -octylammonium oxalate (TOAOxa) to improve the water-resistance stability and exciton recombination of CsPb(Br/Cl) 3 QDs and QD-based light-emitting diodes (QLEDs). The oxalate ion (Oxa 2− ) of TOAOxa could form strong interaction with undercoordinated Pb 2+ on CsPb(Br/Cl) 3 QD surface, which was confirmed by FTIR and XPS analysis. Oxa 2− passivated QDs (Oxa-QDs) exhibited improved photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and enhanced water-resistance stability compared to pristine QDs. For example, after soaking in water–acetone co-solvent for 1 h, Oxa-QDs can maintain the initial cubic morphology and 43.9% of initial PL intensity, while the morphology and luminescence of pristine QDs are almost damaged. Based on the above concept, the Oxa-QD-based QLED presented a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 4.0%, and operational lifetime (T 50 ) of 84 s, which was a 5-fold enhancement in EQE, and 7-fold enhancement in stability compared to pristine QLED, respectively. Besides, the Oxa-QD-based QLED exhibits better stability in high-humidity air. To sum up, the Oxa 2− passivation strategy has significantly improved the efficiency and water-resistant stability of QDs and devices and would rapidly promote the development of blue-emitting QDs.

Band Gap Engineering in Quadruple-Layered Sillén–Aurivillius Perovskite Oxychlorides Bi7Fe2Ti2O17X (X = Cl, Br, I) for Enhanced Photocatalytic Performance

Jikun Chen,Yan Gu,Shishi Xu,Yunxiang Zhang,Zhe Zhang,Lin Shi,Zhichao Mu,Chenliang Zhou,Jiali Zhang,Qinfang Zhang

Developing efficient photocatalyst for the photoreduction of CO2and degradation of organic pollutants is an effective alternative to address increasingly serious energy problems and environmental pollution. Herein, the isostructural Sillén–Aurivillius oxyhalides, Bi7Fe2Ti2O17X (X = Cl, Br, and I; BFTOX), are fabricated for CO2reduction and degradation of organic pollutants for the first time. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that the valence band maximum (VBM) of BFTOC and BFTOB is contributed by the dispersive 2porbitals of O-atoms, providing the narrow band gap (Eg) and possibly the stability against self-decomposition deactivation. The photocatalytic activities of BFTOX are strongly affected by the halogens (Cl, Br, and I), namely, the BFTOCl sample displays outstanding activity improvement (3.74 μmol·g−1·h−1) for photocatalytic performance. This is mainly attributed to the high separation of charge carriers, small optical band gap, and extended optical absorption. This work focuses on affording a reference to develop efficient and stable photocatalysts from Sillén-Aurivillius layered oxyhalide materials.Keywords:Sillén–Aurivillius;Bi7Fe2Ti2O17X;photocatalyst;degradation;CO2reduction

Stable CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) Nanocrystal-in-Glass Composite (NGC) for Solid-State Laser-Driven White Light Generation

Guozhen Li,Qiwen Pan,Zhihao Zhou,Ranran Gu,Hao Zhang,Xiongjian Huang,Guoping Dong,Xiudi Xiao

Perovskite CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals with advantages of high quantum yield, narrow emission peaks, and tunable fluorescence are considered as the next generation of light-emitting sources. However, fluorescence degradation due to the poor stability of perovskite nanocrystals in moisture, high temperature, and illumination remains one of the greatest challenges in their further development. In this work, a fully dense coating strategy is proposed to improve the overall stability of perovskite nanocrystals, especially under high-density laser irradiation. A mesoporous silica SiO 2 layer is introduced to construct a stable coating for isolating the perovskite from external environment. To eliminate the pores of the CsPbX 3 @SiO 2 , an inorganic glass is also employed via solution-combustion technique to generate a fully compact encapsulation for further stability promotion. The as-prepared nanocrystal-in-glass composite exhibits efficient and stable fluorescence performance in luminous efficiency, chromaticity, and long-term reliability in the conditions of thermal shock, humidity, and blue laser irradiation. With the integration of red/green/blue emitting nanocrystals, the color gamut of the white laser lighting source covers 134% of the National Television Standards Committee standard, providing exciting opportunity for high performance laser-driven white light generation.

Tunable dual emission in Mn2+-doped CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br) quantum dots for high efficiency white light-emitting diodes

Weiwei Chen,Xiaosheng Tang,Zhigang Zang,Yue Shi,Zhaoqi Yang,Juan Du

Doping of Mn2+ into semiconductor nanocrystals has been demonstrated to endow them with novel electronic, optical and magnetic functionalities. In this paper, Mn-doped CsPbX3 (X = Br, Cl) quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized at room temperature via a facile strategy by introducing dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)-MnBr2/PbX2 composite as a precursor. The excitonic emission spectra of the as-obtained Mn-doped CsPbX3 QDs can be tuned from 517 nm to 418 nm by adjusting the ratio of PbBr2/PbCl2 precisely, and the luminescence mechanism of the doped QDs is discussed in detail. Moreover, the highest photoluminescence quantum yield of the Mn2+ emission achieves 36.7%, which is comparable with QDs prepared by the conventional hot-injection method. Depending on the ratios of PbPb2/PbCl2, the energy transfer rate from the band-edge to Mn2+ excited state is in the range of 0.006–20.42 × 107 s−1. Furthermore, white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were successfully fabricated by combining the as-prepared Mn-doped CsPbX3 QDs with commercial UV GaN chips, and the high luminous efficiency of the as-prepared white LEDs was developed to 55.9 lm W−1. This work strongly supports the fact that Mn-doped CsPbX3 QDs are promising materials for application in lighting and displaying fields.

Fabrication of Na, Cl co-doped graphitic carbon nitride with enhanced photocatalytic activity for degradation of dyes and antibiotics

Wang Kai-Li,Li Yan,Sun Tao,Mao Fang,Wu Ji-Kui,Xue Bin

Co-doping is a promising approach to change the electronic structure and increase the photocatalytic ability of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ). Here, we reported a facile and green fabrication of Na, Cl co-doped g-C 3 N 4 photocatalysts. In the fabrication, sodium and chlorine were incorporated into g-C 3 N 4 synchronously. The bandgap of Na, Cl co-doped g-C 3 N 4 decreased compared with pure g-C 3 N 4 and the position of the valence band moved in the direction of enhanced oxidizing power. The co-doped photocatalysts exhibited the improved visible-light absorption and the reduced recombination rate of photogenerated electrons and holes. As a result, photocatalytic activity of Na, Cl co-doped g-C 3 N 4 was remarkably improved for the photodegradation of rhodamine B and tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light irradiation. The photocatalysis mechanism of Na, Cl co-doped g-C 3 N 4 was also discussed according to the results of active species trapping experiments.

Concise Strategies to Enhance the High-Rate Performance of Li3VO4 Anodes: Cl Doping, Carbon Coating, and Spherical Architecture Design

Zhang Zongping,Xu Jie,Zhang Dongmei,Ma Huijuan,Li Tao,Xiao Ting,Pei Cunyuan,Ni Shibing

The safe operating voltage and low volume variation of Li 3 VO 4 (LVO) make it an ideal anode material for lithium (Li)-ion batteries. However, the insufficient understanding of the inner storage mechanism hinders the design of LVO-based electrodes. Herein, we investigate, for the first time, the Li-ion storage activity in LVO via Cl doping. Moreover, N-doped C coating was simultaneously achieved in the Cl doping process, resulting in synergistically improved reaction kinetics. As a result, the as-prepared Cl-doped Li 3 VO 4 coated with N-doped C (Cl-LVO@NC) electrodes deliver a discharge capacity of 884.1 mAh/g after 200 cycles at 0.2 A/g, which is the highest among all of the LVO-based electrodes. The Cl-LVO@NC electrodes also exhibit high-capacity retention of 331.1 mAh/g at 8.0 A/g and full capacity recovery after 5 periods of rate testing over 400 cycles. After 5000 cycles at 4.0 A/g, the discharge capacity can be maintained at 423.2 mAh/g, which is superior to most LVO-based electrodes. The Li-ion storage activity in LVO via Cl doping and significant improvement in the high-rate Li-ion storage reported in this work can be used as references for the design of advanced LVO-based electrodes for high-power applications.

Highly luminescent and stable bright-blue CH3NH3Pb(Cl/Br)3 perovskite quantum dots with in-situ formed silica shell

Mu Yang,Qilin Dai,Aiwei Tang,Feng Teng,Hong-shang Peng

Current chloride-bromine mixed perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) suffered from low luminescence efficiency and instability due to migration-nature of ionic species and high defect density. To tackle these challenges, herein a novel type of CH 3 NH 3 Pb(Cl/Br) 3 PQDs (Cl/Br-PQDs) were synthesized via a two-step method. Briefly, pristine silane-capped Br-PQDs were prepared, followed by anion exchange using oleylammonium chloride (OAm-Cl) and in-situ formation of silica shell. The optimal feeding ratio of Cl/Br was determined to be 1:1, which yielded colloidal Cl/Br-PQDs possessing a strong 464-nm emission, a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 94.6% and ultrahigh stability. The high quantum yield was attributed to efficient defects passivation by doped Cl − ions and silica-shell-locked OAm + ligands, whilst the high stability was to silica-shell-restricted migration of halogen ions. Such a combinational strategy of anion exchange and in-situ growth of silica shell may provide an effective solution for synthesis of mixed PQDs with high quality.

One-step coprecipitation synthesis of Cl− intercalated Fe3O4@SiO2 @MgAl LDH nanocomposites with excellent adsorption performance toward three dyes

Fang Chengqian,Dai Yimin,Chen Ling,Wang Zhiheng,Lu Qi,Li Yaqi,Cai Ling,Liu Bo,Zhang Yue-Fei,Li Yan,Wan Li

A magnetic Cl − -intercalated Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MgAl-Cl − LDH nanocomposite has been successfully synthesized by modified one-step salt-assisted coprecipitation process. The Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MgAl-Cl − LDH nanocomposite was characterized by FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM, HRTEM, BET and VSM. The results showed that the Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MgAl-Cl − LDH particles possessed core (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 ) shell (Cl − -LDH) structures and magnetic properties, and Cl − anions were successfully introduced into LDH interlayers. The unique intercalated structure with week interlayer interaction of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MgAl-Cl − LDH provide efficient adsorption of methyl orange (MO), Congo red (CR) and methyl blue (MB), leading to its superior performance with much higher uptake capability with the maximum adsorption capacity of MO, CR and MB reaching 733 mg·g −1 , 910 mg·g −1 and 385 mg·g −1 , respectively. The adsorption process could be well described by pseudo-second-order model for MO, CR and MB. The experimental data of MO and CR could be fitted better with Freundlich model, while that of MB were fitted better with Langmuir model. The adsorption process was spontaneous and exothermic for MO and MB, while spontaneous and endothermic for CR. Moreover, the adsorbent exhibits excellent stability and reusability in the regeneration cycle, and a process called ‘‘post-processing step” is proposed to effectively improve the dye removal ability of the adsorbent in reuse. This study puts forward a new thought for the development of high-performance LDH adsorbents with mesoporous and Cl − intercalation structure for the efficient and rapid removal of dyes.

Scalable synthesis of efficiently luminescent and color-tunable CsPbX3 (X=Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals by regulating the reaction parameters

Xiaobo Hu,Yanqiao Xu,Jiancheng Wang,Jiaxin Ma,Lianjun Wang,Wan Jiang

All-inorganic CsPbX 3 (X=Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit attractive optoelectronic properties for lighting and displays application but suffer from the lack of profound insights into their reaction kinetics. Herein, a modified ligand-assisted reprecipitation (LARP) method was developed to synthesize high-quality CsPbBr 3 NCs by utilizing oleic acid (OA) and n-octylamine (OTAm) as surface ligands, and the effect of Cs/Pb ratio, precursors and ligands concentration on the structure, morphology and fluorescence properties was systematically investigated. The monodisperse CsPbBr 3 NCs with cubic shape and average particle size of 13.7 nm are obtained by optimizing the reaction parameters. Appropriately increasing the Cs/Pb ratio and precursors concentration to 0.5 and 1.0 mM are favorable for forming a more complete crystal structure with lower defect states density, which can significantly enhance the PL intensity. Notably, the surface defect states of CsPbBr 3 NCs are effectively passivated by the coordinated OA and OTAm ligands, and the maximum photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) can reach to 85.2%. Importantly, the effective synthesis of high-quality CsPbBr 3 NCs can be amplified up to 50 times of reaction volume after finely optimizing the reaction parameters. Based on a facile anion exchange process, the CsPbX 3 NCs with variable halogen composition exhibit tunable emission of 443.3∼649.1 nm and a wide color gamut of 117% NTSC standard. This work provides profound sights on the reaction kinetics of perovskite NCs, and further promotes its practical application in optoelectronic field.

Heterometallic PdII–Cl–CuI Catalyst for Efficient Hydrolysis of β-1,4-Glycosidic Bonds in 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium Chloride

Yiwen Yang,Haifeng Qi,Huixiang Li,Zhanwei Xu,Xiumei Liu,Shuyin Yu,Zongchao Conrad Zhang

Efficient hydrolysis of β-1,4-glycosidic bonds of cellulose is a pivotal step in biorefineries of cellulosic biomass. In this work, we discovered that paired PdCl2–CuCl exhibited excellent synergetic catalytic activity over the single PdCl2 or CuCl in the hydrolysis of β-1,4-glycosidic bonds in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([BMim]Cl) and further investigated the catalytic species in this system. The catalytic activity increased and reached a plateau at a CuCl/PdCl2 ratio of 1 with increasing molar ratio of CuCl/PdCl2 while keeping the Pd concentration constant. A combination of experimental evidence based on in situ far-infrared absorption, X-ray absorption, X-ray photoelectron, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies and DFT calculations demonstrate the coupling reaction between [PdIICl4]2– and [CuICl3]2– via the Cl bridge to form the heterometallic complex anion [Cl2PdII–Cl–CuICl2]2–. The heterometallic species is stable during the reaction and maintains its catalytic performance in the presence of various oxygenate additives. Using paired PdCl2–CuCl as a catalyst, the activation energy of hydrolytic cleavage of β-1,4-glycosidic bonds of cellobiose is determined as low as 95.8 kJ/mol. PdCl2–CuCl/[BMim]Cl combined with CrCl3 can be reused five times in cellobiose conversion to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) without an apparent decrease of catalytic activity. The performance of this catalytic system is further verified for efficient cellulose conversion. More than 60% product yield is obtained at 100 °C from the cellulose, affording monosaccharides for efficient production of high value-added chemicals, such as 5-HMF, when CrCl3 is present to catalyze the conversion of glucose to 5-HMF.

Effect of a Magnetic Field on the Electrode Process of Al Electrodeposition in a [Emim]Cl-AlCl3 Ionic Liquid

Jinxia Wang,Xiangyue Liu,Hongwei Xie,Huayi Yin,Qiushi Song,Zhiqiang Ning

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) effect was usually used to improve the mass transport during electrodeposition in a solution electrolyte. Herein, we reported the effect of a magnetic field on the electrode process of Al electrodeposition in a [Emim]Cl-AlCl3 ionic liquid composed of pure ions. Under a uniform and perpendicular magnetic field to the Cu electrode plane, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of the circuit, the cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves, and the different capacitances at the potential of zero charge (PZC) were measured, and the electrodeposition of aluminum was carried out at a constant current density. The results indicated that a vertical magnetic field significantly reduced the resistance (activation energy) for charge transfer of electrochemical reduction of Al2Cl7–; meanwhile, the capacitance of an electric double layer (EDL) and the density of the electrodeposited aluminum layer were increased.

Synthesis of Polyetheramine Based Bonding Agents and Their Effect on Mechanical Properties of an AP/CL-20/GAP Formulation

Shuang Xu,Ai-Min Pang,Zhuo Wu,Hai-Tao Li,Wei Li,Jie Kong

Two types of bonding agents were synthesized based on polyetheramines (PEAs), which aim to increase the strain of AP/CL-20/GAP formulation. The PEAs, terminated with cyano (CTPEA) and Schiff base (SBPEA) groups, were applied in the AP/CL-20/GAP formulation, respectively. The results showed that the bonding agents TCN-403 (CTPEA) and TBA-403 (SBPEA), which were prepared from trifunctional PEA named as T-403, could significantly increase the maximum elongation ratio of the formulation. The differences between the TCN-403 and TBA-403 were analyzed by DMA of the formulations, SEM of the coated fillers, and in-situ tensile test, indicating that the Schiff base bonding agents can effectively inhibit the dewetting of the binder from the solid particles in the formulations.
