The all-inorganic halide perovskite CsPbBr3 exhibited extraordinary photoelectric properties as well as great potential for various optic-electronic devices. The introduction of a Cl/I dopant is an effective method to optimize their properties. However, it is still a challenge to grow doped CsPbBr3 single crystals from solution. In this work, we report on the crystal growth of Cl/I-doped CsPbBr3 crystals using the modified inverse temperature crystallization (ITC) method. The components of raw materials and solvent in precursors were precisely tailored. The resulting doping ratio between the actual content and the nominal content are 0.99 and 0.046 for Cl and I, respectively. It indicates that I ion doped crystals exhibit more severe stoichiometric deviation due to the lower decomposition energy. The crystal structure, morphology, and optical properties of doped crystals were also investigated systematically. The {101} and {010} facets of as-grown crystals were influenced by the doping process. PL and UV transmittance spectra exhibited changes in the band gap in Cl/I-doped crystals. Finally, the phase diagram of basic photoelectric properties was determined for CsPb(Br1–nCln)3 crystals and it reveals conductive type changes from the P type to N type with an increase in the doping content of the Cl element. The optimum component of CsPb(Br0.93Cl0.07)3 demonstrates the highest resistivity of 4.3 × 109 Ω cm, an on/off ratio of ∼40, and a mobility of 414 cm2 V–1 s–1 as well as the lowest carrier concentration of 3.57 × 107 cm–3. Our work provides a strategy to grow doped halide perovskite crystals and tailor their optical and electrical properties.

Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) have led to a growing number of studies focusing on electrochemiluminescence (ECL) due to their excellent optical characteristics, making them promising candidates as ECL emitters for high performance. However, because of their ionic salt nature, PNCs even protected by ligands will be dissolved rapidly in polar solvents as electrolytes. Meanwhile, the contact of interfaces among PNCs, the electrode, and the electrolyte (three-phase interface) is required to guarantee effective carrier transfer and sufficient excited-state species, leading to stable ECL signals and ultrasensitivity. Herein, a fast and convenient preparation method is first proposed for fabricating abundant three-phase interfaces by anchoring CsPbBr3 PNCs to graphene oxide (GO) functionalized with amino groups, which stabilizes the PNC structure and provides carrier transfer pathways. Consequently, the GO-assisted CsPbBr3 PNC three-phase interfaces exhibit brilliant ECL intensity in acetonitrile containing 10 mM tripropylamine (TPrA) and remain stable after more than 1 h continuous cyclic potential scans with an RSD of 6%. Finally, the method has been applied to detect cupric oleate with the detection limit down to the attomolar (10–18 M) level. This work further validates the vital role of interface state in PNCs’ ECL response and has potential in ultrasensitive analysis.

Converting CO 2 into valuable fossil fuels through artificial photosynthesis is regarded as an appealing approach to address the problems of global warming and energy crisis, which primarily depends on the development of robust and effective photocatalysts . Herein, we illustrate the construction and fabrication of a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/CsPbBr 3 perovskite quantum dots (QDs) nanocomposite with efficient CO 2 photoreduction activity. In this photocatalytic system, the highly conductive MWCNT acts as an electron acceptor to inhibit the carrier recombination in the CsPbBr 3 QDs. When the content of MWCNT was 4.0 wt%, the resultant CsPbBr 3 /MWCNT exhibited the optimum photocatalytic performance, with the yields of CO and CH 4 3.14 and 2.13 times that of pristine CsPbBr 3 QDs, respectively. The rapid electron extraction and transfer from CsPbBr 3 QDs to MWCNT, as well as the enhanced visible light harvesting ability accounted for the remarkable photocatalytic performance. This work is anticipated to provide new pathway for designing efficient perovskite-based photocatalyst in energy conversion applications.

Controllable anisotropic growth of perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) is challenging since it is difficult to separate the nucleation and growth processes. Here, a two-step nucleation strategy is proposed to control the binding interaction between surface ligands and NCs, resulting in facet-induced coordination competition. Oleic acid as surface activated ligand leads to the formation of defective lead bromine octahedron, and the binding interaction between 4-dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid and lead atoms promotes the formation of two kinds of binding interactions. Based on this strategy, the anisotropic growth of CsPbBr 3 nanoplatelet (NPLs) with adjusted length from 11.4 to 24 nm, and the evolution of NPLs from stacked to tongue-shaped have been realized. Elemental line scan reveals the sulfur atoms mainly distribute at the edge of NPLs. Furthermore, binding energy calculation and experimental results illustrate the coordination competition of different binding interaction on specific facets induces the anisotropic growth of NPLs. Importantly, strong emission anisotropy of highly ordered NPLs with polarization ratio up to 0.58 is illustrated. This work not only deepens our understanding of the controllable synthesis of perovskite NCs, but also provides a reference for the regulation of light emitting diode and soler cells.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in tobacco tar are regarded as a significant threat to human health. PAHs are formed due to the incomplete combustion of organics in tobacco and cigarette paper. Herein, for the first time, we extended the application of CsPbBr3quantum dots (CsPbBr3) to the photocatalytic degradation of tobacco tar, which was collected from used cigarette filters. To optimize the photoactivity, CsPbBr3was coupled with Bi2WO6for the construction of a type-II photocatalyst. The photocatalytic performance of the CsPbBr3/Bi2WO6composite was evaluated by the degradation rate of PAHs from tobacco tar under simulated solar irradiation. The results revealed that CsPbBr3/Bi2WO6possesses a large specific surface area, outstanding absorption ability, good light absorption and rapid charge separation. As a result, in addition to good stability, the composite photocatalyst performed remarkably well in degrading PAHs (over 96% were removed in 50 mins of irradiation by AM 1.5 G). This study sheds light on promising novel applications of halide perovskite. Keywords:nanocomposites;photocatalytic degradation;perovskite;tobacco tar

Achieving good stability while maintaining excellent properties is one of the main challenges for enhancing the competitiveness of luminescent perovskite CsPbX 3 (X=Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs). Here, we propose a facile strategy to synthesize ceramic-like stable and highly luminescent CsPbBr 3 NCs by encapsulating them into silica derived from molecular sieve templates at high temperature (600–900 o C). The obtained CsPbBr 3 -SiO 2 powders not only show high photoluminescence quantum yield (~71%), but also show an exceptional stability comparable to the ceramic Sr 2 SiO 4 :Eu 2+ green phosphor. They can maintain 100% of their photoluminescence value under illumination on blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) chips (20 mA, 2.7 V) for 1000 h, and can also survive in a harsh hydrochloric acid aqueous solution (1 M) for 50 days. We believe that the above robust stabilities will significantly enhance the potential of perovskite CsPbX 3 NCs to be practically applied in LEDs and backlight displays.

Lead halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are promising electrochemiluminescence (ECL) nanoemitters due to their fascinating photophysical properties. However, due to their poor structural stability against the external environment, the trade-off between their colloidal stability and carrier injection/transport efficiency is a major challenge in the advancement of perovskite-based ECL technology. In this work, intense and stable ECL from CsPbBr 3 (CPB) QDs is achieved by simultaneously encapsulating CPB QDs and coreactant (CoR) into in situ generated SiO 2 matrix via hydrolysis of tetramethyl orthosilicate. The well-designed architecture of the as-obtained CPB-CoR@SiO 2 nanocomposites (NCs) guarantees not only greatly improved stability thanks to the peripheral SiO 2 protecting matrix, but also efficient self-enhanced ECL between CPB and the intra-coreactants. Consequently, by elaborately selecting the CoR molecules with different tertiary/secondary amines and functional groups, multifold higher (up to 10.2 times) ECL efficiencies are obtained for the CPB-CoR@SiO 2 NCs alone in reference to the standard Ru(bpy) 3 2+ /tri- n -propylamine system. This work provides an efficient design strategy for obtaining stable and highly efficient ECL from perovskite QDs, and offers a new perspective for the development and application of perovskite-based ECL system.

Novel CsPbBr3/CdS core/shell structure quantum dots (QDs) were successfully synthesized using a facile hot-injection method. The corresponding CsPbBr3/CdS QDs based light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) were further prepared, which demonstrated the maximum luminance of 354 cd/m2 and an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 0.4% with the current efficiency (CE) of 0.3 cd/A. Moreover, the optoelectronic performance of the CsPbBr3/CdS QDs based QLEDs exhibited a comparable enhancement in contrast to the pure CsPbBr3 QDs based QLEDs. Hypothetically, the novel CsPbBr3/CdS structure QDs introduced one new route for advanced light emission applications of perovskite materials.

Under illumination of light-emitting diode (LED) or sunlight, the green color of all-inorganic CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (CPB-NCs) often quickly changes to yellow, followed by large photoluminescence (PL) loss. To figure out what is happening on CPB-NCs during the color change process, the morphology, structure, and PL evolutions are systematically investigated by varying the influence factors of illumination, moisture, oxygen, and temperature. We find that the yellow color is mainly originated from the large CPB crystals formed in the illumination process. With maximized isolation of oxygen for the sandwiched film or the uncovered film stored in nitrogen, the color change can be dramatically slowed down whether there is water vapor or not. Under dark condition, the PL emissions are not significantly influenced by the varied relative humidity (RH) levels and temperatures up to 60 °C. Under the precondition of oxygen or air, color change and PL loss become more obvious when increasing the illumination power or RH level, and the large-sized cubic CPB crystals are further evolved into the oval-shaped crystals. We confirm that oxygen is the crucial factor to drive the color change, which has the strong synergistic effect with the illumination and moisture for the degradation of the CPB film. Meanwhile, the surface decomposition and the increased charge trap states occurred in the formed large CPB crystals play important roles for the PL loss.

This study investigates the application of trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) and triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO) as an additive to enhance the performance of all-inorganic CsPbBr3 perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The addition of TOPO and TPPO passivates surface defects, increases grain size, and reduces surface trap states, leading to better light absorption and accelerated carrier transport. These modifications lead to an optimized energy level distribution, resulting in a significant increase in power conversion efficiency from 5.14 to 9.21% with TOPO and from 5.14% to 7.28% with TPPO. Furthermore, the long alkyl chains in TOPO provide effective isolation from air and water, significantly enhancing device stability for over 2400 h without packaging. The findings demonstrate that oxygen phosphine additives with long alkane chains are more effective in improving PSCs than those with aromatic hydrocarbons, offering new insights for the use of passivators in perovskite solar cells.

The low stability and high toxicity of CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) greatly limit their application in the biological field. Here, six different CsPbBr3 PNCs were prepared by ligand-assisted reprecipitation (LARP) and hot injection using oleic acid (OA), oleamine (OAm), (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) modification and SiO2 coating, respectively. Different ligands, shells, and synthesis methods give CsPbBr3 PNCs diverse optical properties, stability, and biocompatibility. Among them, OA-OAm-APTES-CsPbBr3@SiO2 has the highest photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) (80.74%) and higher stability (fluorescence intensity remains 70% after 15 days in an atmospheric environment). OA-OAm-APTES-CsPbBr3@SiO2 (30 μg/mL) was cocultured with liver cancer cells for 12 h, and the survival rate was 80%, indicating high biocompatibility. Under the observation of the microplate reader, bright green fluorescence appeared in the cytoplasm, indicating that OA-OAm-APTES-CsPbBr3@SiO2 has great application potential in the field of bioimaging.

Two-dimensional (2D) CsPbBr 3 nanoplatelets (NPLs) have attracted great attention as one of promising semiconductor nanomaterials due to their large exciton binding energy and narrow emission spectra. However, the labile ionic and weakly bound surfaces of deep-blue emitting CsPbBr 3 NPLs with wide bandgap result in their colloidal instability, thus degrading their optical properties. It is challenging to obtain deep-blue emitting CsPbBr 3 NPLs with excellent optical properties. In this study, high-quality blue-emitting CsPbBr 3 NPLs with tunable thickness were prepared adopting the DBSA-mediated confinement effect based on the hot-injection method. Thanks to the coordination interaction of − SO 3 − of DBSA ligand and the Pb 2+ on the surface of the CsPbBr 3 NPLs, as well as the effective passivation of Br vacancy defects on the surface of NPLs by OAm-Br, the obtained pure-blue CsPbBr 3 NPLs and deep-blue CsPbBr 3 NPLs show high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 92 % and 81.2 %, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest PLQY recorded for deep-blue emitting CsPbBr 3 NPLs with two monolayers [PbBr 6 ] 4− octahedra. Furthermore, the agglomeration of CsPbBr 3 NPLs due to ligand loss induced by moisture, oxygen, and irradiation was also suppressed by the dual passivation effect of DBSA and OAm-Br. Our work provided a new approach to developing high-performance and stable deep-blue emitting CsPbBr 3 perovskite nanoplatelets.
