Two-dimensional (2D) layered MXene (e.g., Ti 3 C 2 T x ) is a research focus for zinc-ion capacitors (ZICs) electrodes due to its large specific surface area and high conductivity. However, its practical use is constrained by two critical bottlenecks: low theoretical capacitance and severe interlayer stacking, which directly reduce Zn 2+ transport efficiency and electroactive site accessibility. Constructing hierarchical structures addresses this by providing efficient Zn 2+ diffusion pathways, abundant electroactive sites, and excellent structural stability. This work prepared a 1D/2D hierarchical CoN-CNTs@PANI/Ti 3 C 2 T x composite via in-situ polymerization and electrostatic self-assembly. First, 1D CoN-CNTs provide polyaniline (PANI) polymerization sites to suppress its volume expansion and to form conductive channels, while spiky PANI shells offer extra faradaic sites. Second, 1D CoN- CNTs@PANI nanotubes prevent the restacking of 2D Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets, and the conductive framework of 2D Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets further suppresses PANI volume change to enhance rate capability and cycling lifespan. Third, the 1D/2D structure leverages synergies to accelerate interfacial charge/ion transport and reaction kinetics, critical for high-power ZICs. As a result, the three-electrode tests showed the electrode delivered 861.7 F g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 and retained 91 % capacitance after 5000 cycles at 10 A g −1 . The assembled CoN-CNTs@PANI/Ti 3 C 2 T x //Zn ZIC achieved 91.2 Wh kg −1 at 1600 W kg −1 , with 86 % capacity retention after 5000 cycles at 2 A g −1 . This work establishes an advanced MXene-based hierarchical design strategy for high-performance ZIC electrodes.

A glucose biosensor was developed by immobilizing glucose oxidase (GOD) into the micro network of polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-polyaniline (Pani)-graphene (GRA) hybrid nanocomposite fabricated through phase inversion process. PAN with molecular weight of M w around 2.93×10 4 was synthesized by single rare-earth catalyst-Y(OAr) 3 and GRA with few-layers was prepared by electrochemical expansion of graphite in propylene carbonate electrolyte, respectively. The morphologies of nanocomposites and the fabricated process of biosensor were performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The cyclic voltammetry (CV) was employed to evaluate electrochemical performance of the as-prepared biosensor. The apparent activation energy (Ea) of enzyme-catalyzed reaction based on Arrhenius equation was estimated to be 16.21 kJ mol -1 . The constructed glucose biosensor exhibited a short response time within 5 s, and a superior storage stability of preserving 96.28% of the original response over a period of 2 weeks and 91.95% of that even after a month. The linear range, sensitivity, detection limit, anti-interference, and practical application were also investigated. The micro network of PAN-Pani-GRA hybrid nanocomposite provides a hopeful candidate for construction of biosensors.

A series of gas sensors based on compound conductive polymers and metal oxides with p–n heterojunctions have received a lot of interest. Also, the gas response is significantly enhanced using three-dimensional (3D) porous structured aerogels as carriers. Here, we report a sustainable and highly sensitive gas sensor based on self-formed grapefruit peel aerogel (GPA) loaded with polyaniline (PANI)-ZnO nanohybrids (PANI-ZnO@GPA). ZnO nanorods are produced in situ on the GPA surface (with a porosity of 93.8%) skeleton, adsorbing PANI nanoparticles (NPs) evenly to construct PANI-ZnO nanohybrids. PANI-ZnO@GPA demonstrates excellent gas sensing behaviors for ethanol, acetic acid, ammonia, and formaldehyde gases and high structural stability with 10% linear compression rebound and steady sensing properties even at 50% compression. It is shown that composite aerogel can successfully detect formaldehyde at the 10–1000 ppm level and with a sensitivity of 0.134% ppm–1. Furthermore, it is capable of restoring the initial sensing performance after only 3 min of sunlight exposure. This work is expected to provide new ways to expand the sustainable sensors in the rapid and sustainable detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Seven typical adsorbents were adopted to remove phosphorus and dissolved organic matter (DOM), including humic acid (HA), protein and polysaccharides from simulated wastewater (SW) and secondary effluent (SE). The corresponding adsorption behavior and mechanism were explored in this work. Results showed that the ideal optimal dosage and reaction time of seven adsorbents were 2 g/L and 300 min respectively. Three adsorbents (PANI/TiO 2 , IRA4200Cl, and IRA900Cl) were selected for the subsequent wastewater treatment because of their excellent adsorption and regeneration performance. After 10 cycles of adsorption-desorption process, the removal rates of TP and DOM could reach more than 80% for both SW and SE. The adsorption behavior on synthetic wastewater was well described by the pseudo-second-order model and Freundlich model, which meant that the adsorption of pollutants by these three adsorbents was ascribed to chemical and homogeneous adsorption. Moreover, it was found that the three selected adsorbents could selectively adsorb pollutants from wastewater through chemical adsorption , π-π stacking, hydrogen bonding and ion selectivity . All these findings revealed that the potential application of PANI/TiO 2 , IRA4200Cl, and IRA900Cl in the removal of phosphorus and DOM from SE due to their excellent thermal stability, excellent adsorption performance, and regeneration capability, among which PANI/TiO 2 exhibited the most outstanding performance among them, especially in terms of regeneration capacity.

Tough, self-adhesive and conductive hydrogels have recently attracted considerable interest due to their promising applications in electronic skins, wearable devices and flexible sensors. In this work, we designed a mussel-inspired nanocomposite hydrogel derived from water-soluble tannic acid/polyaniline coated cellulose nanocrystals (TA/PANI@CNCs) and various functional acrylic monomers . The incorporated TA/PANI@CNCs not only endowed the nanocomposite hydrogels with enhanced electrical conductive network and mechanical performance, but also played an important role in repeatable and durable adhesiveness to human skin without additional fixation. By taking the advantage of double networks based on various supramolecular interactions and dynamic borate ester bonds , the hydrogels exhibited a dramatic breaking strain of 974%, fracture stress of 759 kPa and rapid self-healing ability at room temperature without external stimuli. In addition, the as-prepared nanocomposite hydrogels had great strain sensitivity and excellent electrical conductivity , which can be employed as flexible strain sensors for tracking human body motion with a broad range of strain or directly assembled on other materials surfaces as electrical circuits. Compared with previous conductive hydrogels, this work will provide a novel pathway to fabricate nanocomposite hydrogels with self-healing, self-adhesive, strain sensitive and robust mechanical properties for potential applications in wearable strain sensors, flexible electrical interconnection and human motion monitoring.

Oil spill events are major factor of marine ecological system pollution, which cause serious harms to the environment and humanity. Fabrication of an efficient material for oil/water separation is a feasible solution to these thorny problems. In this work, stainless steel meshes were modified with polyaniline (PANI) and TiO 2 nanoclusters through a facile dip-coating method to endow mesh surface with superhydrophobic property with static water contact angle above 150°. Oil/water separation performance was comprehensively evaluated, and the results demonstrated that PANI/TiO 2 modified meshes could efficiently and effectively separate a series of oil/water mixtures including hexane, decane, toluene and diesel oil with high fluxes ranging from 46 k L·m −2 ·h −1 to 176 k L·m −2 ·h −1 , and the oil purity in permeate remaining above 99.8% even after 100 cycles separation. Moreover, the as-prepared PANI/TiO 2 modified meshes were capable to degrade oil or organic contaminants on the mesh surfaces under visible light. Furthermore, PANI/TiO 2 modified meshes designed in this work exhibited dramatic performance in self-cleaning, abrasive resistance and anti-corrosion, and therefore showing great potential and prospect in industrial practical application.

A three-phase heterostructure composite CF/Co0.2Fe2.8O4/PANI with a layer by layer (LBL) structure was designed and synthesized for achieving improvement in electromagnetic (EM) wave attenuation of carbon fiber (CF). The structure and morphology analyses demonstrated the LBL structure of the absorber. The electromagnetic parameters of the absorber and wax composite were measured at 2–18 GHz to evaluate its EM wave attenuation performance. The three-phase heterostructures absorber CF/Co0.2Fe2.8O4/PANI demonstrated the highest attenuation effectiveness value of −38.2 dB (>99.9% attenuation) at 12.7 GHz with a thickness of 4.1 mm. Moreover, for CF/Co0.2Fe2.8O4/PANI, with an absorber thickness of 3.1–4.1 mm, the minimum RL values are all lower than −20 dB in Ku band. The excellent EM wave absorbency in the Ku band for CF/Co0.2Fe2.8O4/PANI results from the combined effect of magnetic loss and dielectric loss by introducing more phase onto CF. Considering the EM wave absorption performance and the effortless fabrication process, it is believable that by introducing more specially designed phases, the EM wave attenuation performance of CF can be significantly improved.

An electrochemical method for simultaneous determination of ascorbic acid(AA), dopamine(DA) and uric acid(UA) was developed based on RGO-Ag/PANI modified glassy carbon electrode(RGO-Ag/PANI/GCE, RGO= reduced graphene oxide, PANI=polyaniline). Owing to the synergetic effect among RGO, Ag and PANI, the RGO-Ag/PANI based sensor not only improved the electrochemically catalytic oxidation of AA, DA and UA, but also resolved the overlapping anodic peaks. Under the optimized conditions, the calibration curves were obtained in the concentration ranges of 50—1000, 5—200 and 20—350 μmol/L, and the detection limits(S/N=3) of 0.5, 0.2 and 0.2 μmol/L were obtained for AA, DA, and UA, respectively, in neutral phosphate buffer solutions(PBS). The RGO-Ag/PANI/GCE sensor was successfully applied to the determination of AA, DA, and UA in bovine serum samples and showed high selectivity, sensitivity, and reproducibility.

Photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC) provides a new method to degrade organic pollutants and recover their energy simultaneously. In this work, a novel flower-like hierarchical photoanode (PANI/Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 /BiOBr/Ti) was synthesized by solvothermal method and assembled with Cu cathode to form a PFC for rhodamine B (RhB) degradation and simultaneous power generation. The crystal structure, chemical composition, and morphology of the photoanode was characterized by a variety of analysis techniques. The photocatalytic activity of the ternary hierarchical composite photoanode was superior to that of single and binary composite photoanodes. Its maximum photocurrent density, maximum power density, degradation rate and FF were 0.241 mA·cm −2 , 21.52μW·cm −2 , 92.97 % (90 min) and 0.18, respectively. In addition, it still maintains high photocatalytic activity after five consecutive uses. Based on the analysis results of transient photocurrent (i-t), EIS, DRS spectrum, M-S curve and free radical capture experiments, the improvement of photocatalytic performance of PANI/Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 /BiOBr/Ti photoanode is attributed to the formation of dual Z-scheme heterojunction between PANI and BiOBr and between Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 and BiOBr, which realizes the rapid separation and transfer of electron-hole pairs, and retains the strong oxidation of holes in VB of BiOBr and the strong reduction of electrons in LUMO of PANI and CB of Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 . This study provides a new research idea for the design and construction of high efficiency photoanode in PFC system.

To push the upper limit of capacitive materials, the integration of multi-modal capacitive materials has emerged as a potential solution. In this regard, we reported the novel binary composite of self-suspended polyaniline (S-PANI) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). Compared with conventional polyaniline, S-PANI offers higher porosity and fibrillar polymeric network, which was achieved by doping long-chain protonic acid during in situ polymerization. S-PANI was loaded on oxidized carbon nanotubes (OCNTs) and sulfonated carbon nanotubes (SCNTs) to prepare S-PANI/OCNT and S-PANI/SCNT composite electrodes, respectively. The conductive and exclusive fibrillar S-PANI provide unobstructed channels for charge transport and electrolyte infiltration. Preliminary electrochemical studies revealed that the capacitance of the composite electrode reached 316.8 F g −1 and 345.4 F g −1 , and established exceptional capacitance retention rates of 92.8% and 93.7% after 5000 cycles for S-PANI/OCNT and S-PANI/SCNT composite, respectively, making it a potential candidate for imminent energy storage devices.

The construction of a polymer interlayer between the substrate and polyamide (PA) layer demonstrates effectiveness in enhancing membrane separation performance through structural and chemical property regulation. Poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK) exhibits superior solvent resistance and durability that enables itself to be a suitable substrate in organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN). However, the inherent hydrophobicity and limited processability of PEEK restrict its application in thin-film composite (TFC) membrane fabrication. In this work, a single-step in-situ polymerization approach was used to grow polyaniline (PANI) on PEEK substrates, resulting in a PANI/PEEK TFC membrane. The introduction of PANI significantly improved the hydrophilicity of PEEK substrates while simultaneously enhancing their amine monomer adsorption capacity. These conditions promote the formation of a thin PA layer and enhance the OSN performance. The optimized PANI/PEEK TFC membranes demonstrated exceptional methanol permeance (10.0 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 ) coupled with a low molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of 371 Da. Moreover, PANI/PEEK TFC membranes maintain operational stability at 6 bar for 72 h while demonstrating selective separation efficiency in mixed dye solutions. This facile fabrication strategy for interlayered TFC membranes provides a novel paradigm for developing high-performance OSN membranes.

High-performance renewable natural biopolymer electroactive artificial muscles have attracted enormous attentions in recent years. Here, a renewable biocompatible nanocomposite soft actuator is reported based on three-dimensional porous electrodes by highly conductive polyaniline doped with reduced graphene oxide/carbon nano-sheets and natural biopolymer cellulose-based electrolyte dissolved in ionic liquid ([Bmim]Cl), thereby realizing large deformation , excellent flexibility, well air working, and highly durable muscular properties. By changing different content and dissolving PH value for polyaniline , this proposed device can achieve a large deformation displacement (up to 13.53 mm) and bending force (up to 12 mN) at the 5 V DC voltage, and deliver a remarkable specific capacitance (from 0.8 to 1.01 mF/cm 2 ) at a sweep rate of 5 mV s −1 , quick response speeds (approximately 10 s), small impedance (2.941 Ω), and excellent energy density (198.33–521.82 Wh/kg) at the current density of 5 A g −1 , outperforming than many natural biopolymer gel-based actuators reported before. These findings suggest that the explored excellent conductivity, flexibility, and porous properties of nanocomposite electrode holds great promise in the further study of high-performance renewable biocompatible soft actuators.
