A new chiral capillary electrophoresis (CE) analytical method for the determination of six pairs of amino acid enantiomer-derivatized precapillary with 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl chloride (FMOC) was developed. CE separation parameters such as the pH of background electrolyte, the boric acid concentration, the addition of D-fructose and isopropanol, and the effect of new binary chiral selectors on the electropherograms were investigated. Precapillary and in-capillary derivatization was compared as well. The results showed that enantiomeric separations were obtained with enantio-resolution (Rs) ranged from 2.61 to 9.99 for the FMOC-derivatized amino acid enantiomers except alanine with Rs 1.06. Precapillary derivatization method provides overall better Rs for nearly all the targets except FMOC-aspartate with efficiency up to 1.309 × 106 plates and limit of detection (LOD) down to 2.5 μM. This method was successfully applied to analyze the concentration of the D/L-glutamic acid and D/L-aspartate in seven rice wine samples.

The aim of the present study was to examine whether adiponectin could inhibit cardiomyocyte senescence induced by D‑galactose (D‑gal), and whether it functioned via the adiponectin receptor 1 (AdipoR1)/adaptor protein phosphotyrosine interacting with PH domain and leucine zipper 1 (APPL1) signaling pathway. For this purpose, the expression levels of adiponectin, AdipoR1 and APPL1 in mouse plasma and myocardial tissues were detected via reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR (RT‑qPCR) and western blotting. An adiponectin‑overexpression plasmid was transfected into D‑gal‑treated H9c2 cells prior to the detection of AdipoR1 and APPL1 expression by RT‑qPCR. Senescence‑associated β‑galactose staining was then performed to observe cellular senescence following the transfection of small interfering RNAs (si) targeting AdipoR1 and APPL1 into D‑gal‑treated H9c2 cells overexpressing adiponectin. Commercial kits were used to detect reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the different groups. The expression levels of heme oxygenase (HO)‑1 and high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) were examined by western blot analysis. The results revealed that the expression levels of adiponectin, AdipoR1 and APPL1 were downregulated in aged mouse plasma, myocardial tissues and D‑gal‑treated cardiomyocytes. It was also observed that AdipoR1 and APPL1 expression levels were significantly upregulated following the overexpression of adiponectin into D‑gal‑treated cardiomyocytes. Moreover, adiponectin overexpression reduced cellular senescence induced by D‑gal and the expression of p16 and p21; these effects were reversed following transfection with si‑AdipoR1 and si‑APPL1. Adiponectin also downregulated the levels of ROS and MDA in D‑gal‑treated H9c2 cells via AdipoR1/APPL1. Additionally, the release of HO‑11/HMGB1 was affected by adiponectin via AdipoR1/APPL1, and adiponectin/AdipoR1/APPL1 suppressed ROS production via HO‑1/HMGB1. On the whole, the present study demonstrated that adiponectin played an inhibitory role in cardiomyocyte senescence via the AdioR1/APPL1 signaling pathway and inhibited the levels of oxidative stress in senescent cardiomyocytes via the HO‑1/HMGB1 signaling pathway.

Ion channels can selectively recognize and transport biological species via an exquisite protein conformational switch. Classically, glucose-specific ion channels strictly transport the disomer over the lisomer. Inspired by this, we report a biomimetic d-glucose-responsive ion gate. We designed and synthesized a functional receptor, a chiral biphenylboronic acid (cBBA) derivative, which was used as a responsive element in an artificial nanopore. Due to its high binding affinity for d-glucose molecules, the biomimetic ion gate exhibits a sensitive and specific gating effect in response to d-glucose stimulation, thereby modulating the ionic current rectification (ICR) behavior. Remarkably, an extremely low concentration (e.g., 10 pM) of d-glucose stimulus could generate a remarkable ionic current change. After binding of physiological concentration of d-glucose (e.g., 5 mM), the ionic current modulation drastically decreased, with the switch ratio reaching up to 1530, showing a powerful gating capacity. Particularly, other saccharide analogues or the l-glucose isomer failed to activate the ion gate. Moreover, this gating effect was pH-dependent and demonstrated reversible ON-OFF ability when altering the medium acidity. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations unraveled that the designed artificial receptor can preferentially bind d-glucose over the l-glucose enantiomer, and finite element simulations revealed the ion gating mechanism in the d-glucose sensing event. The nanopore sensor was successfully applied to the electrochemical assay of glucose in biofluids.

The hydrogen spillover effect embodies a sophisticated and multifaceted phenomenon for H atom equivalents. Despite substantial efforts to identify potential candidates, including d -block metals like Ru and Pd, fundamental aspects of dynamic interplay of activation and spillover processes are still inadequately understood, hindering efficient hydrogenation reactions and high-capacity chemical hydrogen storage. Here, we quantify a comprehensive platform of thermodynamic‒kinetic descriptors to systematically elucidate the full scope of the hydrogen spillover pathway and transcend the limitations of conventional approaches that focus solely on the surface concentration of spilled-over hydrogen, shielding the signal heterogeneity inherent in zones of differential hydrogen availability. Taking a well-defined d -block M/TiO 2− x (M = Ru, Mn, Fe, Co, or Ni) as a representative case by combining spectroscopic quantification and computational investigation, the nonlinear spillover capability and rate of d -block metal originates from the synergistic overlap of its unoccupied d - s orbitals, and the σ and σ* orbitals of the H atom equivalents interact to form a weak antibonding state, reducing the dissociation of the H–H bond and M–H bond. This methodology provides a refined lens for dissecting spillover mechanisms, facilitating a profound mechanistic and spatial understanding of rational metal dilution.

2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic (2,4-D) acid and 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (4-CPA), as widely utilized organochlorine pesticides , are normally detected in wastewater and atmosphere. Their harmfulness to the ecosystem cannot be ignored. UV/H 2 O 2 is one of the most conventional advanced oxidation processes, which has remarkable advantages for the removal of refractory organic pollutants in wastewater. However, the reaction mechanisms and pathways of pollutants with reactive radicals are still unclear. In this study, the degradation efficacy and mechanisms during the photodegradation of 2,4-D and 4-CPA in UV/H 2 O 2 processes were investigated by experiments and density functional theory calculations. The results showed that 2,4-D was more likely to be degraded by UV/H 2 O 2 treatment than UV photolysis alone. In contrast, 4-CPA can be degraded effectively and rapidly under UV irradiation alone. By LC-MS analysis, the degradation products of 2,4-D and 4-CPA in the UV/H 2 O 2 processes were identified and they were produced by hydroxylation and photolysis. Therefore, we speculated a competition mechanism presented between direct photolysis and indirect photolysis in the UV/H 2 O 2 degradation of 2,4-D and 4-CPA. The OH-initiated reaction mechanisms of 2,4-D and 4-CPA in aqueous environments were investigated using quantum chemical methods SMD/M06–2X/6–311++G (3df, 2p)//SMD/M06–2X/6-311 + G (d,p). The pH dependence of the reaction mechanisms and rate constants in their degradation process induced by ·OH was also investigated. The calculation results showed that the ionic forms (2,4-D - and 4-CPA - ) were more prone to react with ·OH in comparison to the corresponding molecular forms (2,4-D and 4-CPA). The total rate constants of 2,4-D and 4-CPA with OH increased with the pH from 1 to 10, and decreased with continued pH increase. The toxicities of 2,4-D, 4-CPA and their products were assessed by the QSAR-based toxicity evaluation software. The results showed that several products were more toxic than their parent compounds, such as 2,4-dichlorophenol, 3,5-dichlorocatechol, 4-chlorophenol and hydroquinone . This work can contribute to clarifying the environmental risks of 2,4-D and 4-CPA and offer a complete understanding for the photodegradation behavior of 2,4-D and 4-CPA in aqueous ecosystems.

Enantioselective catalytic oxidation of d -glucose has been extensively applied in food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. In this work, a nitrogen-rich graphitic carbon nitride ( g- C 3 N 5 ) was synthesized through the pyrolysis of 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole. This material exhibited a reduced band gap, enhanced electrical conductivity, and superior photocatalytic performance compared to graphitic C 3 N 4 ( g- C 3 N 4 ), facilitating more efficient photocatalytic oxidation of glucose with higher yield. The surface of g- C 3 N 5 was subsequently capped with a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) layer by employing d -glucose as the template molecule, and 4-vinylphenylboronic acid as the functional monomer. The resulting g- C 3 N 5 -MIPs demonstrated the ability to selectively photocatalyze the oxidation of d -glucose, producing d -glu acid and H 2 O 2 . Notably, the relative selectivity coefficient for d -glucose over l -glucose increased by a factor of 8.79 compared to the non-imprinted g- C 3 N 5 . This work presents an effective approach for synthesizing advanced g-C 3 N 5 -MIP-based photocatalysts, and highlights their potential for highly enantioselective aerobic oxidation of d -glucose. Birefringent materials, which can modulate the polarization of light, are almost exclusively limited to oxides. Peroxides have long been overlooked as birefringent materials, because they are usually not stable in air. Now, the first peroxide birefringent material Rb 2 VO(O 2 ) 2 F is reported, the single crystals of which keep transparency after being exposed in the air for two weeks. Interestingly, Rb 2 VO(O 2 ) 2 F does not feature an optimal anisotropic structure, but its birefringence (Δn=0.189 at 546 nm) exceeds those of the majority of oxides. According to the first-principles calculations, this exceptional birefringence should be attributed to the strong electronic interactions between localized π orbital of O 2 2− anions and V 5+ 3d orbitals, which may be also favorable to the stability in the air for Rb 2 VO(O 2 ) 2 F. These findings distinguish peroxides as a brand-new class of birefringent materials that may possess birefringence superior to the traditional oxides. Two-dimensional aluminophosphate is an important precursor of phosphate-based zeolites; a new Sun Yat-sen University No. 6 (SYSU-6) with |Hada|2[Al2(HPO4)(PO4)2] has been synthesized in the hydrothermal synthesis with organic structure-directing agent (OSDA) ofN,N,3,5-tetramethyladamantan-1-amine. In this paper, SYSU-6 is characterized by single-crystal/powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, transmission electron microscopy, infrared and UV Raman spectroscopy, solid-state27Al,31P and13C magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectra, and elemental analysis. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction structure indicates that SYSU-6 crystallized in the space groupP21/n, with a = 8.4119(3), b = 36.9876(12), c = 12.5674(3), α = 90°, β = 108.6770(10)°, γ = 90°, V = 3704.3(2) Å3, Z = 4, R = 5.12%, for 8515 observed data (I > 2σ(I)). The structure has a new 4,12-ring layer framework topology linked by alternating AlO4and PO4tetrahedra. The organic molecules reside between the layers and are hydrogen-bonded to the inorganic framework. The new type of layer provides a greater opportunity to construct zeolite with novel topology.Keywords:aluminophosphate;2-D zeolite;SYSU-6

The hypoglycemic effects and underlying molecular mechanisms of combining two dietary compounds, quercetin (Que) and d-chiro-inositol (DCI) on hepatic insulin resistance in C57BL/6J mice that were fed a high fat diet and saturated palmitic acid (PA)-treated hepatocytes were studied. Catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) are important antioxidant enzymes . Insufficient secretion of these enzymes will inhibit the normal phosphorylation of insulin receptors in the liver, thereby limiting the transmission of insulin signals and producing insulin resistance. The results showed that QD (both Que and DCI) led to the recovery of the activity of CAT, SOD, GPx, suggesting that QD was helpful in preventing mice hepatic insulin resistance. In PA-induced human hepatoma cells (HepG2), QD improved the antioxidant level in cells. The fluoro-immunoassay showed that QD effectively reduced the translocation of protein kinase Cε to cell membranes in the HepG2. Western blotting results suggested that QD increased the signal transduction in the IRS-2/PI3K/Akt/FoxO1 pathway. Overall, these results showed that the combination of 5 μmol Que and 5 μmol DCI ameliorated high fat diet-induced hepatic insulin resistance.

In this study, Ti 3 C 2 was delaminated into 2D single or few monolayers-thick nanomaterials (d-Ti 3 C 2 ) by DMSO intercalation and sonication method. Then, d-Ti 3 C 2 /polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) films were prepared by solution casting process. The structures, thermal stabilities, thermal behaviors, and surface properties of the resulting materials were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Furthermore, the experimental results showed improvements in mechanical and thermal characteristics of d-Ti 3 C 2 /PVA films, as compared to those of pure PVA. The addition of d-Ti 3 C 2 had beneficial effects on the tensile strength , elongation at break, modulus of elasticity , thermal stability, and crystallinity of PVA matrix. With 0.5 wt% of d-Ti 3 C 2 , d-Ti 3 C 2 /PVA composite exhibited the best comprehensive properties.

Multi-drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections necessitate novel antibiotic development. D-3263, a transient receptor potential melastatin member 8 (TRPM8) agonist, has potential antineoplastic properties. Here, we reported the antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of D-3263. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) against S. aureus , Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium were ≤ 50 µM. D-3263 exhibited bactericidal effects against clinical methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and E. faecalis strains at 4× MIC. Subinhibitory D-3263 concentrations effectively inhibited S. aureus and E. faecalis biofilms, with higher concentrations also clearing mature biofilms. Proteomic analysis revealed differential expression of 29 proteins under 1/2 × MIC D-3263, influencing amino acid biosynthesis and carbohydrate metabolism. Additionally, D-3263 enhanced membrane permeability of S. aureus and E. faecalis . Bacterial membrane phospholipids phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), and cardiolipin (CL) dose-dependently increased D-3263 MICs. Overall, our data suggested that D-3263 exhibited potent antibacterial and antibiofilm activities against S. aureus by targeting the cell membrane.

While high-entropy alloys, high-entropy oxides, and high-entropy hydroxides, are advanced as a novel frontier in electrocatalytic oxygen evolution, their inherent activity deficiency poses a major challenge. To achieve the unlimited goal to tailor the structure–activity relationship in multicomponent systems, entropy-driven composition engineering presents substantial potential, by fabricating high-entropy anion-regulated transition metal compounds as sophisticated oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalysts. Herein, a versatile 2D high-entropy metal phosphorus trisulfide is developed as a promising and adjustable platform. Leveraging the multiple electron couplings and d–p orbital hybridizations induced by the cocktail effect, the exceptional oxygen evolution catalytic activity is disclosed upon van der Waals material (MnFeCoNiZn)PS 3 , exhibiting an impressively low overpotential of 240 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 , a minimal Tafel slope of 32 mV dec −1 , and negligible degradation under varying current densities for over 96 h. Density functional theory calculations further offer insights into the correlation between orbital hybridization and catalytic performance within high-entropy systems, underscoring the contribution of active phosphorus centers on the substrate to performance enhancements. Moreover, by achieving electron redistribution to optimize the electron coordination environment, this work presents an effective strategy for advanced catalysts in energy-related applications.
