Synergistic coupling of P-doped Pd4S nanoparticles with P/S-co-doped reduced graphene oxide for enhanced alkaline oxygen reduction

Mei Zhang,You Xu,Hugang Zhang,Zhongyao Duan,Tianlun Ren,Ziqiang Wang,Xiaonian Li,Liang Wang,Hongjing Wang

Pd-based materials are promising alternatives to Pt for oxygen reduction reactions (ORR), which is the critical electrode reaction for many oxygen-electrocatalysis-based energy storage and conversion devices. Modification of electronic structure and support effect are powerful tools for boosting ORR performance of Pd-based catalysts. Herein, phosphorus (P) doped-palladium sulfide (Pd 4 S) nanoparticles decorated on P/sulfur (S) co-doped reduced graphene oxide (P-Pd 4 S/PSG) is prepared via a one-step solvothermal method using triphenylphosphine sulfide as both P and S sources. The incorporation of P effectively tailors the electronic structure and coordination environment of Pd 4 S, while P-Pd 4 S decorated on PSG generates strong metal-support interaction, which synergistically promotes electrocatalytic performance towards ORR. The proposed synthetic method offers a feasible route for the rational construction of heteroatoms-doped carbon − metal composites with high-performance for ORR and other potential energy applications.

Relationship between p-cofilin and cisplatin resistance in patients with ovarian cancer and the role of p-cofilin in prognosis

Qin Yujing,Li Wenxue,Long Yingli,Zhan Zhijia

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine the correlation between p-cofilin expression and cisplatin resistance in patients with ovarian cancer, and also to investigate the role of p-cofilin in prognosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The ovarian cancer cell line A2780/DDP resistant to cisplatin was prepared. The cell resistance to cisplatin was measured via MTT assay. The cell invasion capacity was identified via Transwell assay. The mRNA expression and protein level was evaluated via semi-quantitative PCR and Western blot, respectively. The tumor tissues of patients with cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer were collected. The relationship between prognosis and p-cofilin expression was analyzed. RESULTS: The growth rate of A2780 was similar to that of A2780/DDP. The sensitivity of A2780 to cisplatin was significantly higher than that of A2780/DDP (p< 0.01). The migration capacity of A2780/DDP was significantly increased compared to that of A2780 (p< 0.01), indicating that the cisplatin-resistant cell lines were successfully constructed. Both CFL1 mRNA level and p-cofilin level in A2780/DDP was significantly higher than that in A2780 (p< 0.01). The p-cofilin level in cancer tissues in patients with cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer was significantly higher than that in patients with cisplatin-sensitive ovarian cancer (p< 0.01). The cisplatin resistance was positively correlated with the p-cofilin expression level (r= 0.802, p= 0.023). The survival time of patients with normal or low level of p-cofilin was significantly longer than that of patients with high expression. CONCLUSION: The cisplatin resistance of ovarian cancer is closely related to the expression level of p-cofilin, which affects the prognosis of patients with ovarian cancer.

Electrochemical determination of eugenol using a three-dimensional molecularly imprinted poly (p-aminothiophenol-co-p-aminobenzoic acids) film modified electrode

Lite Yang,Faqiong Zhao,Baizhao Zeng

A novel electrochemical sensor for eugenol determination was presented, which was composed of molecularly imprinted poly ( p -aminobenzenethiol-co- p -aminobenzoic acid) and ionic liquid (IL, i.e. 1-aminopropyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide) functionalized graphene-carbon nanotubes composite (GN-CNTs-IL). The porous molecularly imprinted copolymer film was prepared on the GN-CNTs-IL by cyclic voltammetry. The template molecule was eugenol, the supporting electrolyte was 25   mM tetrabutylammonium perchlorate ethanol solution, and the concentration ratio of p -aminothiophenol and p -aminobenzoic acid was 1:3. The 3D porous GN-CNTs-IL composite was synthesized through a simple one-step hydrothermal method. After optimizing the preparation and measurement conditions, the obtained sensor showed a linear response to eugenol in the concentration range of 5.0   ×   10 −7 to 2.0   ×   10 −5   M, and the limit of detection was 1.0   ×   10 −7   M (S/N   =   3). The sensor had good selectivity, 100-fold glucose, lactose and sucrose did not affect the detection of 5.0   ×   10 −6   M eugenol, while 10-fold analogues (i. e. vanillin, methyl eugenol, paeonol and methyl isoeugenol) had no interference. In addition, it also displayed good reproducibility and practicability, and was successfully applied to detect eugenol in real samples.

Regulating pore size of Co-P and Fe-Co-P mesoporous nanosheet array for coupling hydrogen evolution with Fenton reaction

Shuai Li,Yimei Zhang

Enhancing the energy efficiency of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) represents a significant yet challenging goal. One promising approach to achieve this is developing catalysts with high activity and robust stability to couple HER with Fenton reaction. Herein, mesoporous nanosheet arrays (MNA) with featuring a mean pore size of 25 nm, was fabricated via a hydroxide precursor annealing strategy. The produced Co-P MNA 25 and Fe-Co-P MNA 25 are applied in HER and Fenton reaction, respectively. Compared to the MNA 12 synthesized by traditional method of self-growth and solid-phase phosphorization, the MNA 25 exhibited remarkable enhancement in performance, including a 49 % reduction in HER overpotential at 10 mA cm −2 , a 41 % increase in pseudo-first-order degradation kinetics of methylene blue in Fenton reaction, along with superior stability. In addition, the MNA 25 based flow reactor, which couples the two reaction and features a fastener-free design, demands just a minimal voltage of 1.61 V to drive, demonstrating impressive energy efficiency (81.56 % for HER and 2.77 g kWh −1 for Fenton) and application potential. More importantly, numerical simulations reveals that the larger pore size in MNA not only facilitated faster electrolyte diffusion, but also enhanced its impact buffer performance, thereby improving its catalytic activity and stability. Our work unveils the mechanism of mesopore size on the electrochemical performance of catalysts at the theoretical level, which offers a promising avenue for enhancing the energy efficiency of HER.

Structure-activity relationship and mechanism of flavonoids on the inhibitory activity of P-glycoprotein (P-gp)-mediated transport of rhodamine123 and daunorubicin in P-gp overexpressed human mouth epidermal carcinoma (KB/MDR) cells

Yajing Fang,Fuqiang Liang,Mengmeng Xia,Weiwei Cao,Siyi Pan,Ting Wu,Xiaoyun Xu

This study was aimed to investigate the inhibitory activity of flavonoids on P-glycoprotein (P-gp). Effects of 39 flavonoids on the cellular uptake (CU) of rhodamine123 (Rho) and daunomycin (DNR) were investigated in both parental KB and P-gp overexpressed KB/MDR cells. The inhibition mechanism of selected flavonoids was further investigated by measuring the ATPase activity and expression level of P-gp. Twelve flavonoids improved the uptake of Rho (↑Rho F ) and nineteen flavonoids increased the uptake of DNR (↑DNR F ) in KB/MDR cells with nine flavonoids overlapped. Structure-activity relationship (SAR) indicated that 8-OCH 3 , and 2′-OH have a negative effect on Rho and DNR transport. Whereas 5-OH, 5-OCH 3 , 6-OH, 7-OCH 3 , 3′-OH, and 4′-OH, are essential for inhibition of flavonoids on P-gp and reversing the resistance of Rho and DNR. Eleven selected flavonoids significantly induced the basal P-gp-ATPase activity but much lower than that induced by verapamil . Tangeretin , galangin , kaempferol , quercetin , and morin significantly reversed the ATPase activity stimulated by verapamil. Six of eleven flavonoids significantly decreased P-gp expression, whereas three flavonoids slightly increased P-gp expression. These results provide valuable information that flavonoids can effectively reverse multidrug resistance of P-gp-mediated transport of nutraceutical and drugs by co-administration.

Antidepressant effects of total alkaloids of Fibraurea recisa on improving corticosterone-induced apoptosis of HT-22 cells and chronic unpredictable mild stress-induced depressive-like behaviour in mice

Zhongmei He,He Yu,Hong Wu,Lili Su,Kun Shi,Yan Zhao,Ying Zong,Weijia Chen,Rui Du

Context Fibraurea recisa Pierre. (Menispermaceae) (FR) is a traditional Chinese medicine known as “Huangteng.” The total alkaloids of FR (AFR) are the main active ingredients. However, the pharmacological effects of AFR in the treatment of depression have not been reported. Objectives This study investigates the antidepressant effects of AFR by network pharmacology and verification experiments.Materials and methods Compound-Target-Pathway (C-P-T) network of FR and depression was constructed through network pharmacology. In vitro, HT-22 cells were treated with corticosterone (CORT) solution (0.35 mg/mL), then AFR (0.05 mg/mL) solution and inhibitor AZD6244 (14 μM/mL) or BAY11-7082 (10 μM/mL) were added, respectively. The cell viability was detected by CCK-8. In vivo, C57BL/6 mice were divided into 5 groups, namely the normal group, the CUMS group, the AFR (400 mg/kg) group, and the 2 groups that were simultaneously administered the inhibitory group AZD6244 (8 mg/kg) and BAY11-7082 (5 mg/kg). Western blotting was used to assess the expression level of the proteins. Results AFR could protect HT-22 cells from CORT-induced damage and increase the cell viability from 49.12 ± 3.4% to 87.26 ± 1.5%. Moreover, AFR significantly increased the levels of BDNF (1.3, 1.4-fold), p-ERK (1.4, 1.2-fold) and p-CERB (1.6, 1.3-fold), and decreased the levels of NLRP3 (11.3%, 31.6%), ASC (19.2%, 34.2%) and caspase-1 (18.0%, 27.6%) in HT-22 cells and the hippocampus, respectively.Discussion and conclusions AFR can improve depressive-like behaviours and can develop drugs for depression treatment. Further studies are needed to validate its potential in clinical medicine.

Interface Engineering Triggered Electron Transfer Channels and Enhanced p–p Orbital Coupling: Boosting CO2 Electroreduction to Formate Over Heterostructured CuS@SnO2

Jiaqi Li,Hainan Wu,Tinghui An,Yuhao Wang,Dong Xiang,Nan Wang,Kedi Cai

Tin dioxide (SnO 2 ) has been demonstrated to convert CO 2 to formate in an electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction reaction (eCO 2 RR). However, suboptimal CO 2 activation and insufficient electrical conductivity pose formidable challenges to achieving desirable eCO 2 RR activity. Herein, a heterostructured CuS@SnO 2 catalyst was designed to realize efficient formate production in eCO 2 RR, which delivers a Faraday efficiency (FE) of 94.9% and partial current density of 243.5 mA cm −2 at −1.1 V versus RHE in alkaline conditions, coupled with excellent electrochemical stability. Systematic investigations reveal that CuS acts as an electron reservoir, and the directional electron transfer channels induce interfacial electron deficiency in SnO 2 , stabilizing Sn active sites during long-term eCO 2 RR operation. Furthermore, it confers dual effects for promoting formate conversion at the molecular level, which integrates optimized interface electronic structure and enhanced p–p orbital coupling between the key * OCHO intermediate and SnO 2 interface, rendering the enhanced * OCHO adsorption, decreased CO 2 hydrogenation energy barrier, and improved intrinsic formate activity. Beyond catalytic performance, CuS@SnO 2 was further utilized in a Li-CO 2 battery to enable integrated CO 2 conversion and energy storage functionality. This study provides a strategy to effectively regulate the formate selectivity of eCO 2 RR by heterointerface engineering, and meanwhile bridges rational catalyst design with practical CO 2 conversion technologies.

Strong d-p covalent interaction of Mo-P bonds within phosphorus lattice-doped MoS2 boosts visible-light photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline

Zhongjian Wang,Guojun Lv,Jingbo Wang,Zhuoran Zhang,Yuhan Jiang,Yangbin Shen

The strong d-p covalent interaction of Mo-P bonds was obtained. • Lattice doping of P into MoS 2 formed Mo-P bonds in 0.2P-MoS 2. • 0.2P-MoS 2 achieved 91.7% tetracycline degradation under LED irradiation. Antibiotic pollution in water calls for sustainable remediation approaches such as photocatalysis. Despite its promising structure and visible-light response, MoS 2 is hindered by rapid carrier recombination, which severely restrict its photocatalytic efficiency. Herein, we reported a strategy of lattice phosphorus doping into MoS 2 to modulate the electronic structure, broaden visible-light absorption, and facilitate charge separation and migration. The optimized 0.2P-MoS 2 achieved 91.7% degradation of tetracycline (30 mg/L) within 80 min under low-power LED irradiation, with a reaction rate constant 5.5-fold higher than pristine MoS 2 . The superior photocatalytic degradation activity for 0.2P-MoS 2 arises from the narrowest band gap (1.21 eV) and accelerated charge carrier migration originated from the strong d-p covalent interactions in the generated Mo-P bonds. Radical scavenging experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance characterizations identified superoxide radicals (•O 2 − ) and holes (h⁺) as the dominant reactive species. Furthermore, possible photocatalytic degradation pathways of tetracycline were proposed over the 0.2P-MoS 2 catalyst. Moreover, the 0.2P-MoS 2 catalyst maintained high activity after five consecutive cycles, demonstrating its excellent stability. This work offers an electronic structure engineering perspective for rational design of MoS 2 -based photocatalysts and provides a viable approach for antibiotic degradation under low-power light sources, holding substantial promise for environmental remediation. Zhichuang Qi,Jingshan Chen,Zhangmi Huang,Chunyan Hu,Baojiang Liu

PurposeThis paper aims to prepare Poly(Styrene-Butyl acrylate-Methacrylic acid) @Poly Gallic acid-Fe3+photonic crystal composite inks [P(St-BA-MAA)@PGA-Fe3+PCCI, @ means the PGA-Fe3+is loaded on the microspheres] and construct noniridescent structural colors on fabric substrates, with the goal of improving the visibility of structural colors.Design/methodology/approachP(St-BA-MAA)@PGA-Fe3+PCCI were prepared by coating P(St-BA-MAA) microspheres with a metal-polyphenol network formed by gallic acid (GA, C7H6O5) and Fe3+. The assembly effects of the inks were explored under different conditions, including pH, temperature, concentration and surface tension. The optimal self-assembly conditions of the inks were determined using the controlled variable method.FindingsThe results demonstrated the successful preparation of P(St-BA-MAA)@PGA-Fe3+PCCI. The metal polyphenol network film composed of GA and Fe3+was successfully coated on the surface of P(St-BA-MAA) seed microspheres. The assembly mechanism of the inks was investigated, indicating that at a diethylene glycol (DEG, C4H10O3) concentration of 0.3 wt% and pH of 7, bright noniridescent structural colors could be formed on fabric surfaces after self-assembly by PCCI at 60 °C for 10 min. Furthermore, the mechanical fastness of the structural colors was enhanced due to the adherence of the soft shell composed of P(St-BA-MAA) and GA.Originality/valueUtilizing a cost-effective approach and a diverse array of readily available raw materials, we have successfully prepared P(St-BA-MAA)@PGA-Fe3+PCCI, which boasts superior performance and offers fabrics a range of unique coloring styles. This innovation paves the way for potential applications of structural colors in practical production, thereby broadening their realm of utility.

Jin Feng,Qiang Wang,Dongliang Fan,Lirong Ma,Deli Jiang,Jimin Xie,Jianjun Zhu

In order to investigate the roles of three-dimensional network structure and calcium on Ni catalysts, the Ni, Ni-Al 2 O 3 , Ni-Ca-Al 2 O 3 xerogel catalysts were successfully synthesized via the fast sol-gel process and chemical reduction method. The crystal structure of three different catalysts was observed with X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption were employed to investigate the role of network structure of xerogel catalysts and the size distribution of Ni nanoparticles. The catalyst composition was determined by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) measurement and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) experiments were carried out to investigate the reducibility of nickel species and the interaction between nickel species and alumina. The catalytic hydrogenation of p -nitrophenol to p -aminophenol was investigated over the prepared nickel-based xerogel catalysts. The conversion of p -nitrophenol was monitored by UV spectrophotometry and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results show that the catalysts are highly selective for the conversion of p -nitrophenol to p -aminophenol and the order of catalytic activities of the catalysts is Ni   <   Ni-Al 2 O 3   <   Ni-Ca-Al 2 O 3 . The catalysts were recycled and were used to evaluate the reutilization.

Low loading of P modified Rh nanoparticles encapsulated in N, P-doped carbon for boosted and pH-universal hydrogen evolution reaction

Junlu Bi,Xuejun Zhai,Guishan Liu,Jing-Qi Chi,Xuanyi Wang,Shaojin Chen,Zhenyu Xiao,Lei Wang

Searching for highly efficient and Pt-free electrocatalysts with comparable hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activities to the benchmark Pt/C catalyst is highly demanded for developing renewable water electrolysis system but still remains challenging. In the current work, low loading of P modified ultrafine Rh nanoparticles encapsulated in N, P dual-doped carbon layers (Rh–P@NPC) have been prepared through a facile polymerization-impregnation followed by high-temperature pyrolysis process . Benefiting from the unique core-shell structural advantages and synergistic effect of Rh–P and NPC components, the resulting Rh–P@NPC catalyst not only exhibits remarkable electrocatalytic activity for HER in the whole pH range with a low overpotential of 31 mV, 65 mV, and 130 mV to drive a current density of 10 mA cm −2 in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 , 1.0 M KOH, and 1.0 M PBS , respectively, but also demonstrates high durability. It is worth to note that all these HER performances are on a par with commercial Pt/C catalysts for HER. This synthetic strategy provides possibility for the fabrication of carbon-based heterostructures with high catalytic activity and durability in harsh environments.

Fractionation of herbaceous biomass using a recyclable hydrotropic p–toluenesulfonic acid (p–TsOH)/choline chloride (ChCl) solvent system at low temperatures

Wangxia Wang,Feng Gu,J.Y. Zhu,Kaiyong Sun,Zhaosheng Cai,Shufeng Yao,Wenjuan Wu,Yongcan Jin

Lignin valorization is significantly influenced by the degrees of lignin condensation measured by the amount of cleaved β O 4 ether linkages and interunit C C linkages formed during biomass fractionation. To minimize the cleavage of aryl ether and formation of C C linkages, a p–toluenesulfonic acid (p–TsOH)/choline chloride (ChCl) solvent system with hydrotropic properties was evaluated. The ChCl was chosen to control the H + concentration of the p–TsOH/ChCl solvent system. Compared with p–TsOH/H 2 O, the degradation of β O 4 was kept in a similar rate during p–TsOH/ChCl fractionation; however, the formation of C C linkage was slower. Under 75/25 p–TsOH/ChCl mass ratio at 80 °C for 20 min, 76.6 % of miscanthus lignin, with β O 4 content of 30.9 %, and 88.9 % of wheat straw lignin, with β O 4 content of 33.6 %, can be dissolved. In addition, the low polar and layered structure of hydrotropic p–TsOH/ChCl system has a strong ability to dissolve lignin, which resulted in lignin with larger particle size and lower surface charge. The results also indicated that lignin from p–TsOH/ChCl solvent system has great potential for lignin depolymerization to aromatics for valorization.
