A hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) coating of micron thickness is deposited directly on 316L stainless steel (SS316L) cathode through efficient, adjustable electrophoretic deposition (EPD) in a suspension system containing surfactant and ethanol. It is based on the mixing of h-BN with polyethyleneimine (PEI) resulting in positively charged ceramic powder making cathodic electrophoretic deposition possible. The thickness of the resulting h-BN coatings deposited on SS316L could be controlled by varying the time and the voltage of electrophoretic deposition. The deposition kinetics and mechanism have been discussed. After soaking in Al(H2PO4)3solution and high-temperature annealing, the h-BN coatings exhibited good adhesive strength. Furthermore, a novel method has been used for the evaluation of the adhesive strength to explore the appropriate experimental conditions. X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were employed to characterize the h-BN coatings. The h-BN coatings are applied for the DC breakdown performance test and exhibit remarkable breakdown voltage and breakdown strength. Keywords:electrophoretic deposition;hexagonal boron nitride;coating;aluminum dihydrogen phosphate;electrical insulation

Polymer composites have been widely employed as electronic packaging materials, due to their low cost, flexibility, chemical stability, and high malleability, etc. However, the thermal conductivity of polymer composites becomes increasingly requirement, with the rapid growth of electronics toward miniaturization and high-power density. Conventional method to enhance the thermal conductivity of polymer is addition of high-content thermally conductive fillers, but it will deteriorate other significant properties of polymers, such as optical, electrical, and mechanical performance. Herein, we report an ice-templated assembly strategy to construct three-dimensional thermally conductive networks of BN nanosheets (BNNS) and silver nanowires (AgNWs) in epoxy resin composites. The thermal-conduction pathway can be easily built by the synergistic effects between two-dimensional BNNS and one-dimensional AgNW. Furthermore, the welding of the adjacent AgNWs through low-temperature sintering process enlarges the total contact area per unit filler volume. The resulted polymer composite thus exhibits a through-plane thermal conductivity of 1.10 Wm −1 K −1 at only about 5.0 vol% fillers content, which is six times higher than that of the pure epoxy resin. This work shows great potential in advanced packaging materials, such as substrate materials and printed circuit board materials.

Graphical A 2D/2D hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and nitride doped molybdenum disulfide (N−MoS 2 ) heterostructure (h-BN/N−MoS 2 ) catalyst was prepared by sonication using a solvothermal method. The catalyst breaks down H 2 O 2 to produce hydroxyl radical and further oxidizes the colorless TMB to produce blue oxTMB. Recently, nanozymes have attracted extensive attention because of their advantages of combining nanomaterials with enzymes. Herein, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and nitride-doped molybdenum disulfide (N−MoS 2 ) nano-composites (h-BN/N−MoS 2 ) were synthesized by facile and cost-effective liquid exfoliation with a solvothermal method in nontoxic ethanol solution. The results show that h-BN, as a co-catalyst, can not only dope into the lattice of MoS 2 but also form a heterogeneous structure with MoS 2 NSs. It expanded the layer spacing and specific surface area of MoS 2 NSs, which was beneficial to the contact between the catalyst and the substrate, and resulted in a synergistic enhancement of the catalytic activity of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) with MoS 2 . A colorimetric determination platform of h-BN/N−MoS 2 -TMB-H 2 O 2 was constructed. It exhibited a wide linear range of 1–1000 μM with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.4 μM under optimal conditions, high sensitivity and stability, as well as good reliability (99.4–110.0%) in practice, making the measurement system more widely applicable.1. Polymer composites, with both high thermal conductivity and high electrical insulation strength, are desirable for power equipment and electronic devices, to sustain increasingly high power density and heat flux. However, conventional methods to synthesize polymer composites with high thermal conductivity often degrade their insulation strength, or cause a significant increase in dielectric properties. In this work, we demonstrate epoxy nanocomposites embedded with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and modified boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs), which have high thermal conductivity, high insulation strength, low permittivity, and low dielectric loss. Compared with neat epoxy, the composite with 25 vol% of binary nanofillers has a significant enhancement (~10x) in thermal conductivity, which is twice of that filled with BNNSs only (~5x), owing to the continuous heat transfer path among BNNSs enabled by AgNPs. An increase in the breakdown voltage is observed, which is attributed to BNNSs-restricted formation of AgNPs conducting channels that result in a lengthening of the breakdown path. Moreover, the effects of nanofillers on dielectric properties, and thermal simulated current of nanocomposites, are discussed. Keywords:polymer nanocomposites;thermal conductivity;electrical properties;silver nanoparticles/boron nitride nanosheets;PACS:

Surface functionalized BN particles with grafted hyperbranched polyarylamide (BN-HBP) were prepared and used to improve the thermal conductivity and low dielectric constant of BN-filled cyanate ester resin (BN-HBP/CE) composites. The thermal stability, dielectric properties, thermal conductivity and dynamic mechanical properties of the BN-HBP/CE composites were investigated. The results illustrate that BN-HBP/CE composites with a load of 32 wt% exhibit a high glass transition temperature of 283 °C, low dielectric constant of 3.29 at 1 MHz, and a desirable thermal conductivity of 0.97 W/(m·K). Additionally, these novel materials exhibit a high decomposition temperature of 5% weight loss at 407 °C and low curing shrinkage of −0.64%. When the loading is 38 wt%, the thermal conductivity of BN-HBP/CE composites is 1.27 W/(m·K). These findings have significant implications for the preparation of high-performance substrates that meet the requirements for application as printed circuit board substrates.

A novel nanofiller-reinforced SLIPS is developed on AZ31 Mg alloys. • CeO 2 @PDA/h-BN nanofillers enhance the corrosion resistance and self-healing properties of coatings. • Self-healing ability is due to rapid lubricant redistribution and passive film formation. • The coating shows better long-term corrosion protection than conventional SLIPSs. Conventional slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) have emerged as an effective strategy to protect Mg alloys from corrosion. However, their anti-corrosion and self-healing performances remain insufficient for long-term service. Therefore, multifunctional CeO 2 @PDA/h-BN nanofillers were incorporated into liquid lubricant to fabricate nanofiller-reinforced SLIPSs (CeO 2 @PDA/h-BN-SLIPSs). In particular, this study systematically investigated influences of nanofiller concentrations on surface morphology, hydrophobicity, and electrochemical behavior. CeO 2 @PDA/h-BN-SLIPS-8, prepared at a concentration of 8 mg/mL, displayed the lowest corrosion current density (8.22 × 10 -11 A/cm 2 ) and the highest impedance modulus (9.06 × 10 8 Ω cm 2 at 0.01 Hz). This was ascribed to the synergistic effects of high surface hydrophobicity provided by a lubricant layer, tortuous diffusion pathways provided by h-BN nanosheets, ion-exchange property of MgAl-LDH, and active corrosion inhibition of CeO 2 . In addition, scanning vibration electrode technique (SVET) analysis confirmed good self-healing behavior of CeO 2 @PDA/h-BN-SLIPS-8, arising from both rapid lubricant redistribution and formation of protective cerium-based passive films. Overall, this study provides an effective strategy for fabrication of robust anti-corrosive and self-healing SLIPSs, offering enhanced corrosion protection for Mg alloys in industry.

To improve h-BN dispersion and the local interfacial environment in WC-based cemented carbides, an h-BN@Al₂O₃ composite powder was prepared by heterogeneous nucleation and calcination, with h-BN as the designed core phase and Al₂O₃ as the designed outer-layer component. The composite powder was incorporated into WC-based cemented carbides consolidated by spark plasma sintering (SPS), and the effects of powder content and sintering temperature on phase composition, microstructure, mechanical properties, and densification characteristics were examined. The h-BN@Al₂O₃ content was closely related to WC grain size, microstructural uniformity, and porosity. At 1300 °C, the specimen containing 5 vol% h-BN@Al₂O₃ had a fine, relatively homogeneous microstructure with few visible pores; higher additions increased porosity and local particle agglomeration. For the 5 vol% composition, raising the sintering temperature from 1100 to 1400 °C increased the relative density and reduced visible porosity. At 1500 °C, local WC grain coarsening, microstructural inhomogeneity, and residual porosity increased, accompanied by lower mechanical properties. The best overall performance was obtained with 5 vol% h-BN@Al₂O₃ at 1400 °C: a relative density of 99.1 ± 0.4%, flexural strength of 871.3 ± 26 MPa, Vickers hardness of 1912.1 ± 38 HV, and fracture toughness of 9.86 ± 0.2 MPa·m 1/2 .

Traditional water treatment membranes always face the problem of membrane contamination in the practical application. Those contaminants deposited on the membrane surface and inside the membrane pores make the filtration process more difficult. Herein, the temperature and photo sensitive nanocomposite membranes with superior wasterwater separation and light-cleaning capabilities were prepared by a non-solvent induced phase separation method, which combined the thermo-responsive property of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) grafted polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and the high photothermal conversion character of core–shell structured BN@PDA-Ag nanosheets. The membranes can be heated to high temperature within a short period of light exposure due to the fast photothermal conversion capability of Ag and the excellent thermal conductivity of boron nitride (BN). The increase in temperature led to the contraction of PNIPAAm chains and bigger pore size. The microstructure, filtration, and cleaning performance of the nanocomposite membranes can be controlled by illumination, which allowed PVDF-g-PNIPAAm/BN@PDA-Ag membranes to achieve the effect of first interception and then cleaning. The membranes showed retention rates of 82, 99 and 95 % for BSA, oil–water emulsions and various dyes with flux recovery rates of > 90 % after light cleaning. This work provides a simpler, more efficient membrane cleaning strategy with superior potential for dealing with membrane contamination.

Li-rich Mn-based oxide cathodes are one of the most promising cathode candidates for high energy density over 400 Wh kg −1 , deriving from oxygen redox of Li-O-Li configuration. However, the deep oxygen oxidation would lead to the formation of peroxides and superoxides (O 2 n − , 0 < n ≤ 2) and even oxygen (O 2 ), accompanied by crystal phase transformation and structure collapse. Herein, an integrative strategy of simultaneously regulating the right amount of oxygen vacancies (OVs) and B-atom doping is proposed to achieve differentially modification of both R-3 m and C2/m phases. Firstly, Rietveld refinement, HRTEM and in situ XRD results reveal that the linear increase of OVs content is achieved by regulating the amount of BN and the selective introduction of OVs inside the C2/m phase makes the oxygen partial pressure lower in the weak O-Li-O bonds of TM-layer and inhibits oxygen release at over 4.5 V. Meanwhile, kinetics test shows oxygen defects would accelerate the Li + diffusion and reduce the electronic impedance driven by uneven local charge distribution. Secondly, lattice analysis shows the strong covalent B-O bonds located at the tetrahedral site not only prevent the overoxidation of the oxygen atoms at high voltage, but also hinder the migration of Mn atoms through tetrahedral sites, which effectively avoids the damage of the crystal structure. As a result, the modified cathode exhibits the excellent discharge specific capacity of 272 mA h g −1 at 0.1C, higher rate performance of 145 mA h g −1 at 5C, an outstanding capacity retention rate of 93% at 1C and lower voltage decay value of 0.43 V after 200 cycles. This promising strategy could simultaneously achieve both high energy density and superior cycling stability and help to advance industrial application of Li-rich Mn-based Cathodes.

Driven by the rapid development of autonomous vehicles, ultrasensitive photodetectors with high signal-to-noise ratio and ultraweak light detection capability are urgently needed. Due to its intriguing attributes, the emerging van der Waals material, indium selenide (In2Se3), has attracted extensive attention as an ultrasensitive photoactive material. However, the lack of an effective photoconductive gain mechanism in individual In2Se3 inhibits its further application. Herein, we propose a heterostructure photodetector consisting of an In2Se3 photoactive channel, a hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) passivation layer, and a CsPb(Br/I)3 quantum dot gain layer. This device manifests a signal-to-noise ratio of 2 × 106 with responsivity of 2994 A/W and detectivity of 4.3 × 1014 Jones. Especially, it enables the detection of weak light as low as 0.03 μW/cm2. These performance characteristics are ascribed to the interfacial engineering. In2Se3 and CsPb(Br/I)3 with type-II band alignment promote the separation of photocarriers, while h-BN passivates the impurities on CsPb(Br/I)3 and promises a high-quality carrier transport interface. Furthermore, this device is successfully integrated into an automatic obstacle avoidance system, demonstrating promising application prospects in autonomous vehicles.

Strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) is a crucial factor that determines the structure and performance of a supported metal catalyst. Herein, the SMSI effect of Rh nanoparticle catalyst supported on h-BN is investigated in the dry reforming of methane (DRM) reactions with different CO 2 /CH 4 ratios. The catalyst characterization results demonstrate that the SMSI effect allows the Rh nanoparticles to be encapsulated by BO x overlayers under DRM reaction conditions (CO 2 /CH 4 = 1/1), which prevents the interaction between the reactants and metal centers for causing rapid deactivation. By increasing the partial pressure of CO 2 (CO 2 /CH 4 = 3/1), Rh/BN exhibits significantly enhanced activity and long-term stability in the DRM reaction. CO 2 or H 2 O in the reactive atmosphere can effectively etch the BO x overlayers for steadily exposing the active Rh-BN interface sites, as evidenced by the characterization. This observation extends the understanding of the SMSI effect at the interfaces between metal and non-oxide support.

As an excellent two-dimensional insulating material with high thermal conductivity , high temperature stability and high hardness, hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) is widely applied in semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, metallurgical manufacturing and other cutting-edge fields. However, the unique surface structure of h-BN leads to poor lubricity and easy agglomeration, which limits the application of h-BN especially in the field of electronic packaging. To address key issues boosted above, this study designed and prepared the BN@Fe 3 O 4 magnetic insulating particles and doped it into the reduced viscosity epoxy resin to prepare the composites. By selecting appropriate external magnetic field strength and BN@Fe 3 O 4 particles’ content, a novel 3D structure of fillers like dominoes in epoxy resin composite was successfully constructed. The microstructure of the BN@Fe 3 O 4 particles and composites were analyzed, the thermal conductivity, the mechanical and the electrical properties of composites were simultaneously tested. Results manifested that the core-shell structures with BN as core and Fe 3 O 4 as shell was successfully prepared, linking through the PDA middle layer between the BN core and Fe 3 O 4 shell. Under the influence of magnetic orientation, the BN@Fe 3 O 4 magnetic particles were preferred an out-of-plane oriented in the epoxy resin composites, resulted an enormously enhanced on thermal conductivity of composites. At a magnetic field strength of 60 mT and 25 vol% BN@Fe 3 O 4 content, the thermal conductivity of BN@Fe 3 O 4 /EP composites is as lofty as 1.832 W/(m K), which is 1023.46% higher than that of pure epoxy resin. Meanwhile, the thermal stability has also been slightly improved, the elastic modulus and insulation performances remain at the same level.
