Because of the increased incidence and prevalence, ulcerative colitis (UC) has become a global health issue in the world. Current therapies for UC are not totally effective which result in persistent and recurrent symptom of many patients. Lactobacillus with anti-inflammatory effects might be beneficial to the prevention or treatment for UC. Here, we examined the ameliorative effects of the metabolites of Lactobacillus fermentum F-B9-1 (MLF) in Caco-2 cells and dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced UC model mice. MLF displayed intestinal barrier-protective activities in Caco-2 cells by increasing the expression of Occludin and ZO-1. They also showed anti-inflammatory potential in interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6. In order to further examine the in vivo anti-inflammatory effect of MLF, the MLF was gavaged in the DSS-induced UC model mice. The intragastric administration of MLF effectively alleviated colitis symptoms of weight loss, diarrhea, colon shortening, and histopathological scores, protected intestinal barrier function by increasing Occludin and ZO-1, and attenuated colonic and systemic inflammation by suppressing production of IL-1β and IL-6. Finally, the use of MLF remodeled the diversity of the gut microbiota and increased the number of beneficial microorganisms. Overall, the results demonstrated that MLF relieved DSS-induced UC in mice. And MLF might be an effective therapy method to UC in the clinic in the future.

To achieve high-energy composites with both high energy density and enhanced safety, TiH 2 /HMX/F energetic microspheres were fabricated using a coaxial flow-focusing microdroplet technique. The effects of varying TiH 2 contents on the chemical structure, thermal decomposition, mechanical sensitivity, combustion characteristics, and combustion products were systematically examined. The results show that the microspheres exhibit a dense structure, narrow particle-size distribution, and uniform component dispersion, while retaining the crystalline form and chemical structure of the raw HMX and TiH 2 . With increasing TiH 2 content (5, 10, 15, and 20 wt%), the apparent activation energy rises by 21.58, 66.35, 98.33, and 146.09 kJ mol −1 , respectively, compared with the H/F sample, indicating reduced reactivity but significantly improved thermal stability. At 10 wt% TiH 2 , the critical impact energy and friction force increase by 4.0 J and 164.0 N, respectively, demonstrating enhanced mechanical safety. Combustion tests reveal that TiH 2 not only strengthens combustion intensity but also prolongs the reaction duration. When the TiH 2 content exceeds 5 wt%, oxidation becomes more complete, with TiO 2 and TiN identified as the main products. In addition, the combustion mechanism was clarified, highlighting the role of TiH 2 in promoting high-temperature oxidation and improving combustion completeness. These findings provide both theoretical insights and process guidance for optimizing the performance and safety of high-energy composite materials.

A sustainable, reliable and self-powered anti-corrosion method for metallic structures is key to improving the operation stability and service life of equipment. In this work, a series of durable superhydrophobic fluorinated silica (F-SiO2)/epoxy resin (FE) coatings with good corrosion resistance were prepared via a simple spraying method, which were further used to fabricate a FE based triboelectric nanogenerator (FE-TENG). A synergistic anti-corrosion system for self-powered cathodic protection constructed using the superhydrophobic FE coating and a water wave-driven FE-TENG was then proposed. In a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, the corrosion potential (Ecorr) of an aluminum (Al) sheet protected by the FE-TENG self-powered cathodic protection was slightly decreased by 80 mV. However, when the Al sheet was coated with a FE superhydrophobic coating, the Ecorr was significantly reduced by 460 mV under FE-TENG protection. Notably, the Ecorr of 304 stainless steel protected by the synergistic anti-corrosion system was dramatically decreased by ∼745 mV. Furthermore, an application in marine corrosion protection was demonstrated by using a float-like spherical FE-TENG. This work demonstrates a cost-effective and large-scale strategy for preparing a superhydrophobic FE coating, using which a self-powered synergistic anti-corrosion system is built for effectively protecting metals from corrosion.

The practical application of lithium metal batteries is considered to be one of the most promising successors for lithium-ion batteries due to their ability to meet the high-energy storage demands of modern society. However, their application is still hindered by the unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and uncontrollable dendrite growth. In this study, we propose a robust composite SEI (C-SEI) that consists of a fluorine doped boron nitride (F-BN) inner layer and an organic polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) outer layer. Both theoretical calculations and experimental results demonstrate that the F-BN inner layer induces the formation of favourable components (LiF and Li 3 N) at the interface, promoting rapid ionic transport and inhibiting electrolyte decomposition. The PVA outer layer acts as a flexible buffer in the C-SEI, ensuring the structural integrity of the inorganic inner layer during lithium plating and stripping. The C-SEI modified lithium anode shows a dendrite-free performance and stable cycle over 1200 h, with an ultralow overpotential (15 mV) at 1 mA cm −2 in this study. This novel approach also enhances the stability of capacity retention rate by 62.3% after 100 cycles even in anode-free full cells (C-SEI@Cu||LFP). Our findings suggest a feasible strategy for addressing the instability inherent in SEI, showing great prospects for the practical application of lithium metal batteries.

Solid-state fluoride ion batteries (SSFIBs) are anion-shuttle-driven and alkali-metal-free emerging energy storage systems, and have the advantages of low cost, high safety, and energy density. However, the current major challenges of SSFIBs or quasi-SSFIBs are the lack of high-conductivity fluoride electrolytes and the difficulty of mild-temperature operation of full cells. Here, a 2D fluoride conductor (KSn 2 F 5 ) synthesized by mechanochemical method is employed as the compatible solid electrolyte with a high F-ion conductivity of 10 −4 S cm −1 at 60 °C. The high concentration and frequent hopping of charge carriers in F-vacancy-rich KSn 2 F 5 contribute to the higher ionic conductivity compared to most reported fluoride structures. Integrating this layered electrolyte with high-voltage CuF 2 cathode and Sn/SnF 2 anode, a highly reversible cycling of conversion-type quasi-SSFIBs with a discharge capacity of 150 mAh g −1 for at least 70 cycles at 60 °C is achieved. The interface engineering aided by tetra- n -butylammonium fluoride salt facilitates the F-ion transfer between cathode and electrolyte and fluorination/defluorination conversion mechanism of CuF 2 cathode with optimized multiphase and nanodomain distributions.

Fusarium graminearum ( F. graminearum ) is a vital pathogen of Fusarium head blight (FHB). Hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S), which can be induced by stress in plants as a fungal inhibitor, affects the germination of spores through the detection of environmental factors such as temperature and pH. Based on mathematical models, F. graminearum was treated with different temperatures, pH, and H 2 S concentration to investigate spore germination events. This paper considered the synergistic effects of temperature and pH on spores in order to determine the optimal germination environment. Under these circumstances, the inhibition of spore germination with different concentrations of H 2 S was quantified. The results suggested that the germination time negatively correlates with the germinating rate. An increase in temperature altered the weak alkali preference of F. graminearum spores. At 28 °C, spores were more sensitive to the changes in pH. H 2 S gas could delay the germinating process significantly, however the required H 2 S concentration varied with environmental changes. This paper provides a perspective on the synergistic effect of temperature and pH on spore germination and contributes to determining the concentration of H 2 S as a management of FHB.

Flexible perovskite solar cells (f-PSCs) show great promise in portable-power applications (e.g., chargers, drones) and low-cost, scalable productions (e.g., roll-to-roll). However, in conventional n–i–p architecture f-PSCs, the low-temperature processed metal oxide electron transport layers (ETLs) usually suffer from high resistance and severe defects that limit the power conversion efficiency (PCE) improvement of f-PSCs. Besides the enhancement in the mobility of metal oxide and passivation for perovskite/ETL interfacial defects reported in previous literature, herein, the electron transport loss between the metal oxide nanocrystallines within the ETL is studied by introducing an amorphous F-doped TiO x (F-TiO x ) caulked crystalline SnO 2 composite ETL. The F-TiO x in this novel composite ETL acts as an interstitial medium between adjacent SnO 2 nanocrystallines, which can provide more electron transport channels, effectively passivate oxygen vacancies, and optimize the energy level arrangement, thus significantly enhancing the electron mobility of ETL and reducing the charge transport losses. The composite ETL-based f-PSCs achieve a high PCE of 22.70% and good operational stability. Furthermore, a moderate roughness of the composite ETL endows f-PSCs with superior mechanical reliability by virtue of a strong coupling at the ETL/perovskite interface, by which the f-PSCs can maintain 82.11% of their initial PCE after 4000 bending cycles.

In this study, dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma and F/FeO catalyst were utilized to degrade chloramphenicol (CAP) in water. The operation conditions, catalyst properties and catalytic mechanisms were systematically studied, and the anti-bonding activation effect was highlighted as the key for the catalytic effect. The results show that CAP was 100% degraded by DBD and F/FeO after 8 min treatment under optimal operating conditions, and F/FeO catalyst increased the degradation efficiency of CAP by 34.1%. FeO transferred electrons into the π* anti-bonding orbital of O 3 and the σ* anti-bonding orbitals of H 2 O 2 and O 2 , leading to an anti-bonding activation effect and weakening their bonding. Additionally, F facilitated the electron transfer of FeO and changed the stable adsorption of O 3 and H 2 O 2 on FeO to dissociated adsorption on F/FeO. The –OH groups generated by the H 2 O 2 dissociation could induce a non-Fenton catalytic pathway. The intensive electron transfer of F/FeO converted O 2 into ·O 2 − . The ant-bonding activation of O 3 , H 2 O 2 and O 2 on F/FeO facilitated the production of ·OH. A degradation pathway for CAP was proposed based on the findings of experiments and simulation. The developmental toxicity of CAP was weakened after F/FeO/DBD treatment. This study proposes an efficient plasma catalyst for purifying antibiotic wastewater, and provides a new insight into the mechanism of the plasma/catalysis process.

BiOCl 0.5 X 0.5 (X = F, Br, and I) heterojunctions were prepared via the solvothermal approach to achieve the solar-light induced photodegradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). The photocatalytic activity of BiOCl coupling with BiOI is greatly affected by the molar ratio of Cl/I. The best photocatalytic efficiency of 97.9 % within 120 min is obtained by flower-like BiOCl 0.5 I 0.5 microspheres with a Cl/I molar ratio of 1:1, and the removal efficiency of TCH over BiOCl 0.5 I 0.5 declines to 93.2 % after five cycles. Compared with BiOCl 0.5 Br 0.5 and BiOCl 0.5 F 0.5 , BiOCl 0.5 I 0.5 presents the better photocatalytic activity . Z-scheme junction between BiOCl and BiOI is favorable for the efficient separation and migration of photo-generated charge carriers, and the narrow band-gap structure of BiOCl 0.5 I 0.5 microspheres favors the visible-light harvesting.·O 2 - plays a vital role in BiOCl 0.5 I 0.5 -assisted photocatalytic reaction. However, the change in valance states induced by photo-corrosion is responsible for the solar-light deactivation of BiOCl 0.5 I 0.5 .

Generally, phosphates are employed to design ultraviolet nonlinear optical crystals. However, phosphates always suffer from too small birefringence to effectively achieve phase matching. Herein, the Sn2+ cation with a stereochemically active lone pair was introduced into a phosphate as a birefringence-active unit, and two tin phosphate halides Sn2PO4X (X = F, Cl) were successfully synthesized. Interestingly, the different coordination environments of the Sn-polyhedron caused by the partial substitution of halide ions (F−/Cl−) with different ionic radii for the oxygen ligands lead to structural transformation from centrosymmetric (CS) Sn2PO4F to noncentrosymmetric (NCS) Sn2PO4Cl. Thus, Sn2PO4X (X = F, Cl) were characterized by enlarged birefringence, and Sn2PO4Cl is type I phase-matchable with a moderate SHG response, and is a potential ultraviolet nonlinear optical material. Furthermore, both phosphates show wide band gaps. Theoretical analysis confirmed that their excellent optical properties result from the synergistic effect of the [SnOX] (X = F, Cl) polyhedra with stereochemically active lone pairs and the [PO4]3− tetrahedron.

The coexistence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and heavy metals have been found in soils. However, the interaction between the combined pollutants in soils remains unclear. In this study, the adsorption processes of single and combined Cr(VI) and chlorinated polyfluoroalkyl ether potassium sulfonate (F–53 B) in red, yellow and black soils were simulated. When compared with the single F–53 B and Cr(VI), the adsorption amount of the combined F–53 B and Cr(VI) on soils changed with the types of soils. The interactions between F–53 B and Cr(VI) in soils affected their adsorption behavior. The adsorption of the combined F–53 B and Cr(VI) best fit second-order kinetics and the Freundlich equation. Moreover, aluminum and iron oxides are highly correlated with adsorption of F–53 B and Cr(VI). Both F–53 B and Cr(VI) can form complexes with aluminum and iron oxides through electrostatic interactions, but PFOS could be bridged with iron oxides to form an inner sphere complex and with aluminum oxides to form an outer sphere complex. The coexistence of F–53 B and Cr(VI) could change the fluorescent group of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in soils due to the complexation between F–53 B and DOM. In addition, F–53 B increased the acid-soluble portion of Cr and decreased its residual form, which promoted the environmental risk of Cr in soils.

A new alkaline-earth and rare-earth borate fluoride, Ba10LuB18O32F13, the first example of borate in the Lu–B–O–F system, has been successfully synthesized in a high-temperature vacuum system. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, with the Fmm2 space group and the parameters a = 16.5749(6) Å, b = 16.7644(9) Å, c = 13.6222(6) Å, and Z = 4. It represents a new fundamental building block (FBB), [B9O22], with the notation 9:[2(4:2Δ + 2T) + T], in which two [BO3] triangles and two [BO4] tetrahedra are enclosed into a [B4O10] ring and every two [B4O10] rings are bridged by a [BO4] tetrahedron. The [B9O22] FBBs are further condensed into a 3D network with two types of channels that accommodate Ba2+ and Lu2+ cations. The UV cut-off edge is below 190 nm, indicating the application potential of Ba10LuB18O32F13 in the DUV region. Additionally, to further explore the structural novelty of Ba10LuB18O32F13, a comparison with all anhydrous borates with 18 boron atoms in their chemical formula was carried out. The fascinating results indicate that [B9O22] has been discovered for the first time, enriching borate fluoride structure chemistry.
