Ni-MOF derived NiO nanosheets growing on rGO have been successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method following by a series of calcination procedures (300 °C, 400 °C, and 450 °C). The influence of the introduction of rGO and the calcination temperature on electrochemical performance of Ni - MOF derived NiO nanosheets as the electrode material were highlighted in detail. For the three-electrode test system, Ni-MOF derived NiO/rGO composites subjected to calcination at 300 °C demonstrated the highest specific capacitance (435.25 F·g −1 at 1 A·g −1 ), and maintained 68.00% of its initial value at 8 A·g −1 . Its specific capacitance was increased by 49.34% when compared with the initial value after 25,000 cycles at 50 mV·s −1 . With the increase in calcination temperature, the specific capacitance presented the downward tendency (400 °C: 171.50 F·g −1 at 1 A·g −1 , 450 °C: 116.00 F·g −1 at 1 A·g −1 ) due to the reduction in specific surface area originating from the agglomeration of NiO nanosheets. The introduction of rGO greatly enhanced the electrochemical performance of the composites treated at 300 °C (increased by 40.40% at 1 A·g −1 and 47.30% in specific capacitance at 8 A·g −1 ). The assembled hybrid supercapacitors (HSC) with Ni-MOF derived NiO/rGO composites (300 °C) and active carbon as the cathode and anode also displayed the outstanding electrochemical performance. The value of energy density reached to 76.96 Wh·kg −1 at the power density of 400 W·kg −1 . All these results confirm that the MOF-derived NiO/ rGO composite should be a potential electrode material for supercapacitors .

In this study, we report a facile in situ synthesis of hierarchical NiO/NiFe 2 O 4 sub-microcubes by annealing Ni 3 [Fe(CN) 6 ] 2 sub-microcubes fabricated via a one-step solution-precipitation method. The temperature-dependent magnetization curves show that there exists a collective freezing of the moments of interface spin clusters at T B ≈ 296 K , which further indicates the appearance a coupling interaction between the ferrimagnetic NiFe 2 O 4 and antiferromagnetic NiO nanoparticles . Furthermore, hysteresis loops measurements reveal the existence of an exchange bias effect in the NiO/NiFe 2 O 4 composite system . Interestingly, no training effect of exchange bias is observed, which indicates that the magnetic pinning interaction between NiFe 2 O 4 and NiO is stable and robust. Exchange bias field shows an exponential dependence on temperature and vanishes at about 150 K, which reveals the strong coupling interaction does not improve effectively the thermal stability of exchange bias effect in the current system.

Electrochromic devices (ECDs) with different liquid electrolytes were fabricated using NiO film as counter electrode, WO 3 film as working electrode. The effect of liquid electrolytes containing different lithium salts (LiClO 4 , LiPF 6 , LiTFSI) on films and ECDs was investigated, such as transmittance change, charge density, memory effect and cyclic stability. Films or ECDs using LiPF 6 electrolyte have excellent electrochromic properties but low cyclic stability, compared with LiClO 4 and LiTFSI electrolytes. In order to deeply understand the effect of electrolyte on films and devices, the voltage distribution of films based on an analog cell and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were measured and analyzed in different lithium salts electrolytes. Results show that voltage distribution and EIS characteristics of films have obvious difference in liquid LiClO 4 , LiPF 6 and LiTFSI electrolytes. Voltage distribution on NiO and WO 3 films is unbalanced and the impedance of films in bleached and colored states is different in the same electrolyte.

As high-capacity anode materials, spinel NiFe2O4aroused extensive attention due to its natural abundance and safe working voltage. For widespread commercialization, some drawbacks, such as rapid capacity fading and poor reversibility due to large volume variation and inferior conductivity, urgently require amelioration. In this work, NiFe2O4/NiO composites with a dual-network structure were fabricated by a simple dealloying method. Benefiting from the dual-network structure and composed of nanosheet networks and ligament-pore networks, this material provides sufficient space for volume expansion and is able to boost the rapid transfer of electrons and Li ions. As a result, the material exhibits excellent electrochemical performance, retaining 756.9 mAh g−1at 200 mA g−1after cycling for 100 cycles and retaining 641.1 mAh g−1after 1000 cycles at 500 mA g−1. This work provides a facile way to prepare a novel dual-network structured spinel oxide material, which can promote the development of oxide anodes and also dealloying techniques in broad fields.Keywords:NiFe2O4;dealloying;porous;lithium-ion batteries

1-octen-3-ol is reported as a representative biomarker among volatile organic compounds (VOCs) associated with wheat mildew, and the corresponding chemiresistive sensors reported to date are still under development due to their limited sensitivity. To achieve excellent 1-octen-3-ol sensing performance, a two-/three-dimension (2D/3D) hierarchical core-shell structure NiO/NiFe 2 O 4 with abundant interior heterojunction interfaces was synthesized. This simple strategy achieves a triple effect: (i) the pre-concentration effect arising from the core-shell structure, (ii) charge transfer and interfacial modulation between the core and shell, and (iii) the interfacial interaction of the NiO/NiFe 2 O 4 heterojunction formed within the 2D nanosheets of the shell. The optimal NiO/NiFe 2 O 4 sensor demonstrated superior overall performance at 275 °C, whose response value to 100 ppm 1-octen-3-ol reached 1109 ± 79, with excellent selectivity (S 1-octen-3-ol /the max of S other VOCs = 4.0), significantly outperforming previously reported sensors. A significant enhancement in response to complex VOCs generated during wheat storage was achieved, demonstrating the practical feasibility of NiO/NiFe 2 O 4 . This work may serve as a guideline for developing high-performance hierarchical core-shell gas sensing materials.

Non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose sensors (NEGS) offer advantages over enzymatic counterparts, but conventional supporting scaffolds suffer from poor conductivity, limited surface area, and binder dependence. Herein, we present a strategy to fabricate high-performance, binder-free NEGS based on a hierarchical laser-induced graphene/carbon fiber framework (LW-CFF-B) functionalized with NiO nanoparticles. The 3D porous LW-CFF scaffold is engineered by in-situ carbon fiber felt (CFF) enhanced LIG using 1,4-phenylenediboronic acid (PA) modified liquid benzoxazine (PGE-a) as the precursor. PA serves a dual role in enhancing carbon yield and improving electrical conductivity (sheet resistance reduced from 2.54 to 1.23 Ω/sq). Moreover, PA promotes the formation of a hierarchical porous carbon architecture, which is beneficial for facilitating electrochemical performances of the obtained carbon product. Subsequent laser assisted deposition of NiO nano-layer on LW-CFF-B scaffold yields the LW-CFF-B-Ni electrode. This optimized architecture combines mechanical integrity with exceptional electrocatalytic properties, leading to outstanding glucose sensing performance: ultrafast response (1.2 s), ultrahigh sensitivity (5758 μA mM⁻¹ cm⁻²), a low detection limit (0.16 μM), and excellent selectivity against common interferents. The developed sensor demonstrates appreciable recoveries (91.1% to 107.3%) regarding glucose concentration in beverages. These outstanding analytical results demonstrate significant potential for this sensor in precise glucose monitoring.

Nickel oxide and nickel phosphide supported by nitrogen-doped multi-walled carbon nanotubes (NiO-Ni 12 P 5 /NCNTs) nanocomposites were reported as non-noble metal hybrid electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). First, an amorphous nickel phosphorous coating was facilely formed on the surface of pristine CNTs (aNi-P/CNTs) through a simplified electroless deposition without the pretreatment steps of purification, sensitization and activation. Then, aNi-P/CNTs were heated with melamine at 600 °C for 1 h under an Ar atmosphere to prepare NiO-Ni 12 P 5 /NCNTs. The as-fabricated NiO-Ni 12 P 5 /NCNTs electrocatalysts showed high HER electrocatalytic activity of -0.17 V at 10 mA cm −2 , a Tafel slope of 75 mV dec -1 and a high exchange current density of 0.049 mA cm -2 . Moreover, the NiO-Ni 12 P 5 /NCNTs electrocatalysts showed a much higher durability than Pt/C after the accelerated durability tests in 0.1 M KOH. The NiO-Ni 12 P 5 /NCNTs electrocatalysts displayed good activity and stability for HER, which may originate from the synergistic effect between the Ni compound and NCNTs.

The water oxidation reaction involves a four electron–proton coupled process that is kinetically sluggish and has hindered the widespread application of water-splitting technology. Metal-MOF-coupled heterostructures serve as good OER electrocatalysts due to their endowed MOF frameworks and numerous transition metal active sites at the interface. In this study, a simple ultrasonic impregnation strategy was used to prepare CoOx/UiO-66-300 and NiO/UiO-66-300 heterostructures via the impregnation of Co and Ni ions into UiO-66 followed by roasting in air at 300 °C to obtain heterostructures with UiO-66-retained frameworks as revealed by SEM. The electrochemical results show that the respective impregnation successfully modulated the electronic charge at the interface of the heterostructures, leading to rapid electron transfer that enhanced the OER activity. CoOx/UiO-66-300 and NiO/UiO-66-300 heterostructures showed good oxygen evolution reaction activities of 283 mV and 291.6 mV, respectively, due to the retained UiO-66 framework, while CoOx/UiO-66-550 and NiO/UiO-66-550 heterostructures calcined at 550 °C showed a decrease in OER activities of 332.6 mV and 346.6 mV, respectively, due to the collapsed UiO-66 framework. This work gives insight into the development of heterostructures of MOF-retained frameworks for energy applications.

Graphical A novel interlaced mesoporous NiO NSs@CF electrochemical catalyst was prepared using a direct in situ vertical growth method, in which NiO formed mesoporous nanosheets with a pore size of 15 nm and a thickness of ∼30 nm. This binder-free electrode exhibited a superior NH 3 yield of 71.3 μg h −1 mg −1 cat. and a FE of 17.9 % at −0.5 V vs. RHE. Metal oxide nanomaterials directly grown on conductive substrates are optimal electrode materials because their structures allow for rapid ion and electron transport and thereby reduce internal resistance in the electrode. The development of such binder-free, self-supporting electrodes is of great significance for applications in electrocatalysis. In this work, a simple hydrothermal in situ self-assembly reaction and annealing process was developed to prepare three kinds of nickel oxide @ carbon felt (NiO@CF) nanocomposites with different morphologies. The influence of different precipitators (strong or weak bases) on the morphology of the resulting nano-sized nickel oxide nanocomposites was investigated. The microstructures of the NiO@CF samples were characterized with field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). When ammonia was used as the precipitator, NiO grew vertically on the surface of the carbon felt and formed a mesoporous nanosheet-like structure (NiO NSs@CF). As an electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction ( e -NRR) electrode, the NiO NSs@CF sample showed an excellent NH 3 yield (71.3 μg h −1 mg −1 cat. ) and Faradaic efficiency (17.9 % at −0.5 V vs. RHE) in 0.1 M Na 2 SO 4 . The good performance was attributed to the vertical interleaved mesoporous sheet-like structure (with the pore size of 15 nm and the thickness of ∼30 nm) and the relatively high concentration of oxygen vacancies. First-principles calculations with strong on-site Coulomb interactions demonstrated that the presence of oxygen vacancy on NiO sample leads to a significantly stronger N binding over the surface, benefiting for the nitrogen gas adsorption and reduction. The e -NRR performance of this binder-free, flexible electrode material is superior to that of other reported nickel-based nanomaterials. This study highlights the potential of such binder-free carbon felt electrodes for use in e -NRR that could meet the needs of industrial production.

Nowadays, given the booming demand of blood sugar control from the soaring number of diabetes patients and the insufficient stability of costly enzyme-based glucose sensors in clinic, the development of enzyme-free sensors has been drawing tremendous attraction. Herein, we fabricated a unique structure of Ni/NiO hybrid nanoparticles with mixed-valence states encapsulated in and cross-linked by nitrogen-doped graphene via a facile Ni-MOF-annealing approach and developed its notable feature in efficiently non-enzymatic glucose sensing. The microstructure and valence states, proved vital to the electrochemical activity and sensing performance, were simultaneously regulated by the annealing temperature. The optimized sample obtained at 400 °C displays the superior activation behavior and best glucose sensing performance, offering a high sensitivity of 3.2518 mA mM −1 cm −2 , a wide linear range (0.001–3.568 mM), a low detection limit (0.032 μM, S/N = 3) as well as excellent selectivity, good reproducibility, long-term stability, and satisfactory applicability in real sample. By further investigation of the electrochemical kinetics mechanism, the synergistic effect of multivalent system and well-organized microstructure was proved beneficial for charge transfer, activation of reaction sites, and elimination of electrode polarization as well, thus providing a promising strategy in designing non-enzymatic biosensor platform for glucose detection in actual diagnosis.

The fabrication of micro/nano metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) heterostructures, employing bimetallic metal–organic frameworks (Bi-MOFs) as self-sacrificing templates, can significantly enhance the sensitivity of the resulting nanocomposite materials. Herein, ZnO/NiO heterostructures derived from Ni/Zn Bi-MOFs were fabricated, which achieved outstanding UV-assisted NO 2 -sensing performance at room temperature. Our experiments reveal a sensitive dependence of the sensing performance of ZnO/NiO heterostructures sensor on calcination temperature. The ZnO/NiO-600 sensor, which was calcined at 600 °C, demonstrated the best sensing performance, achieving 3-fold sensitivity enhancement over pure ZnO. Under UV irradiation, the response value to 1 ppm NO 2 reaches 6.78, with corresponding response and recovery times of 15 s and 40 s, respectively. Furthermore, the ZnO/NiO-600 sensor exhibits an exceptional detection limit as low as 20 ppb and a strong linear response within the range of 20 ppb–1 ppm (R 2 = 0.994). The excellent sensing performance can be attributed to the synergistic effect of several factors, including the mesoporous structure of MOF-derived MOS materials, the formation of ZnO/NiO heterostructures, and UV irradiation. This work provides a promising strategy for the development of a novel Bi-MOF-derived MOS heterosturcture that can be applied to photoelectric gas sensor.

en This link goes to a English section zh This link goes to a Chinese section The development of high-performance photodetectors critically relies on innovative interfacial band engineering, a strategy that enables the synergistic enhancement of photocurrent and drastic suppression of dark current. Herein, a self-powered ultraviolet (UV) photodetector is demonstrated based on a NiO/La-doped SrSnO 3 (LSSO)/Nb-doped SrTiO 3 (NSTO) dual heterojunction. Benefiting from the reinforced interfacial potential barriers and multiple built-in electric fields at both the NiO/LSSO and LSSO/NSTO interfaces, the device achieves highly efficient charge separation while effectively inhibiting carrier leakage in the dark. Consequently, the photodetector exhibits an ultra-low dark current of 0.18 pA at zero bias. Under 254 nm UV illumination, the device delivers a high responsivity of 41.81 mA W −1 , a specific detectivity of 7.87 × 10 12 Jones, a photocurrent-to-dark-current ratio as high as 4.4 × 10 4 , and rapid response times (rise/fall) of 2.89/13.93 ms.
