A series of ZIF-67-derived materials have been prepared by stirring and roasting ZIF-67 at different temperatures and used to activate persulfate for oxidation of tetracycline. Compared with Co 3 O 4 and common MOFs (MiL-100-Fe, UiO-66, and ZIF-67), ZIF-67-derived materials exhibit excellent catalytic activity. A 95.06 % removal has been achieved for 20 mg/L tetracycline at a catalyst dosage of 0.6 g/L, PMS dosage of 0.2 g/L. The N 2 adsorption/desorption experiment and the SEM analysis show that the large specific surface area favors the full contact between the active sites and the pollutants, and the regular pore structure is conducive to the diffusion and mass transfer of the pollutants. Moreover, XRD, Raman, and XPS studies demonstrate that a suitable calcination temperature can promote the formation of oxygen vacancies and active Co 2+ , essential for the formation of active oxygen species. The free radical scavenging experiment reveals that ·O 2 – is the main active species, followed by 1 O 2 . The effects of catalyst dosage, PMS dosage, initial pH, and coexisting ions on tetracycline oxidation are also investigated. Thus, this study provides the theoretical basis and practical evidence for activating PMS as a high-performance catalytic material for the degradation of antibiotics in water.

Efficient and robust oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts are essential for the development of high-performance anion-exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFC). To enhance the electrochemical performance of metal–organic frameworks of cobalt-based zeolite imidazolium skeleton (ZIF-67), this study reported a novel ZIF-67-4@CNT by in situ growing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the surface of ZIF-67 via a mild two-step pyrolysis/oxidation treatment. The electrochemical results showed that the as-prepared ZIF-67-4@CNT after CTAB modification exhibited excellent catalytic activity with good stability, with Eonset, E1/2, and Ilimit, respectively were 0.98 V (versus RHE), 0.87 V (versus RHE) and 6.04 mA cm−2@1600 rpm, and a current retention rate of about 94.21% after polarized at 0.80 V for 10 000 s, which were all superior to that of the commercial 20 wt% Pt/C. The excellent ORR catalytic performance was mainly attributed to the large amount of the in situ growing CNTs on the surface, encapsulated with a wide range of valence states of metallic cobalt.

The bi-transition-metal interstitial compounds (BTMICs) are promising for water electrolysis. The previous BTMICs are usually composed of irregular particles. Here, this work shows the synthesis of novel 1D Co 6 Mo 6 C-based heterojunction nanowires (1D Co/Co 6 Mo 6 C) with diameters about 50 nm and a length-to-diameter ratio about 20 for efficient water electrolysis. An interesting growth process based on pyrolytically “squeezing” PMo 12 (Phosphomolybdic acid)/ZIF-67 (Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-67) cube precursor is demonstrated. The “squeezing” growth is related to the role of Mo species for isolating Co species. A series of tests and theoretical calculation show the mutual regulation of Co and Mo to optimize the electronic structure, accelerating H 2 O dissociation and the reduction kinetics of H + . Additionally, the nanowires provide pathways for electron transfer and the transmission of reactants. Consequently, the 1D Co/Co 6 Mo 6 C exhibits high activity for hydrogen evolution reaction ( η 10 of 31 mV) and oxygen evolution reaction ( η 10 of 210 mV) in 1 m KOH. The electrolytic cell based on 1D Co/Co 6 Mo 6 C requires a low voltage of 1.43 V to drive 10 mA cm −2 . The catalyst also exhibits good HER performance in 1 m phosphate-buffered saline solution, exceeding Pt/C at a current density >42 mA cm −2 .

In this study, we develop a filter paper-supported Ag nanowire (AgNWs) substrate coated with a tunable layer of zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) metal-organic framework (MOF) for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) applications. The thickness of the ZIF-67 layer is precisely controlled by adjusting the soaking time, allowing us to investigate the influence of MOF thickness on SERS performance using probes with different sizes. Sensitivity for large, impenetrable molecules such as thiram and rhodamine 6G (R6G) are primarily governed by localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), while smaller, penetrable molecules like 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA) exhibit enhanced sensitivity driven by charge transfer (CT) effects due to their ability to penetrate the MOF layer. A finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation reveals that the porous structure of ZIF-67 facilitates electric field propagation to the probe, maintaining significant LSPR effects even beyond 200 nm from the AgNWs. Practical applicability is demonstrated using a wiping mode to detect thiram spiked on apple surfaces, with reliable linear detection achieved across a wide range of concentrations. This study underscores the potential of MOF-based hybrid SERS substrates for real-world applications, leveraging the complementary roles of CT and electromagnetic (EM) mechanisms to enhance sensitivity.

Heavy metals are highly toxic and nonbiodegradable, posing a serious threat to the water environment and human beings. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a highly efficient adsorbent that is easy to recover and separate for the removal of heavy metals. In this paper, nitrogen-doped magnetic carbon (NC-67) was prepared by carbonization and hydrochloric acid treatment using cobalt-containing MOF (ZIF-67) as precursor. Then, polyaniline (PANI) was grown directly on NC-67 with high specific surface area by in situ polymerization to prepare polyaniline-coated nitrogen-doped magnetic carbon (NC-67@PANI), which was characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and VSM, etc. and used for the removal of Cr(VI)from wastewater. The experimental results showed that the adsorption process of Cr(VI) by NC-67@PANI was spontaneous and endothermic, which conformed to the pseudo-second-order model and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model. Due to the synergistic effect of adsorption and reduction, the experimental adsorption capacity of NC-67@PANI for Cr(VI) was 410.2 mg/g. NC-67@PANI maintained a removal efficiency of 65.8% for Cr(VI) after five cycles. In addition, NC-67@PANI had good magnetism and was easy to separate under external magnetic field. The excellent adsorption capacity and easy separation characteristics of NC-67@PANI indicate that it is a promising adsorbent for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater. Graphical Abstract

H 2 gas sensors with facile preparation, high sensitivity and low detection limits are crucial for hydrogen energy safety. Given the high surface area, abundant porosity and high stability, zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) provide a potential development path for hydrogen sensors. In this work, ZIF-67@ZIF-8 modified with palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) was synthesized by room-temperature solution synthesis and NaBH 4 reduction method. The xPd@ZIF-67@ZIF-8 (x=10, 20, 30, 40) samples exhibit a rough mesoporous surface due to etching of NaBH 4 and feature a uniform distribution of Pd NPs. The modification of Pd NPs broadens the hole accumulation layer (HAL) of ZIF-67@ZIF-8 and decreases the resistance (from ~500 to 1 MΩ), thereby reducing the operating temperature. It is noteworthy that the operating temperature zone of 20 Pd@ZIF-67@ZIF-8 is 85-115 ℃ with higher hydrogen sensitivity than the other sensors at optimum operating temperature (≥ 100 ℃). Meanwhile, the 20 Pd@ZIF-67@ZIF-8 sensor demonstrates a rapid response speed to low concentration H 2 (response to 50 ppm H 2 within 8 s) on account of the spillover and catalytic effects of Pd NPs. Furthermore, the 20 Pd@ZIF-67@ZIF-8 sensor possesses a relatively low theoretical detection limit (16.5 ppb), and exhibits excellent moisture resistance, cycle and long-term stability. This sensitive material provides a prospective avenue for hydrogen energy safety monitoring.

The rational design of low-cost, efficient, and durable bifunctional electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is critical for advancing next-generation energy storage systems. Here, a dodecahedral zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) is employed as a structural template to direct the formation of cobalt-tipped nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube arrays (Co@NC@NCNT). This hierarchical architecture integrates high electrical conductivity with abundant accessible active sites. By optimizing the calcination temperature and melamine content, the resulting Co@NC@NCNT-750-10 catalyst achieves a high ORR half-wave potential of 0.821 V and a low OER overpotential of 370 mV. When applied in rechargeable Zn-air batteries (RZABs), it delivers a peak power density of 136.4 mW cm −2 and a specific capacity of 722.9 mAh g⁻¹, outperforming commercial Pt/C and RuO 2 benchmarks. The assembled RZAB exhibits excellent cycling stability and energy efficiency, underscoring the promise of this catalyst system for practical implementation in high-performance, metal-air energy storage technologies.

Oiled wastewater generated from industrial processes inflicts significant harm on the environment, posting a pressing need for affordable materials that provide prospect for effective oil-water separation and the recovery of valuable oil resources from such wastewater. The incorporation of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) onto the commercial cotton fabric, due to its porous structure and adjustable properties, offers a promising solution to this challenge. In this work, a cotton fabric with multifunctionalities was designed by in situ growing ZIF-67 onto cotton (ZIF-67@Cotton). The robust superhydrophobic surface was successfully created on ZIF-67@Cotton by combining a self-roughness structure with the modification using a low surface energy agent. This modification imparts versatility, enabling self-cleaning, high-efficiency oil-water separation, and mechanical stability. The resulting ZIF-67@Cotton exhibits a desirable water contact angle (WCA) superhydrophobic characteristic (over 156°), and exceptional resistance to mechanical abrasion during laundering. Notably, this superhydrophobic ZIF-67@Cotton not only efficiently extracts oil from oil/water mixtures with a efficiency over 99.5 % and water-in-oil emulsion (99.3 %) after repeating 20 times but also exhibits superior UV resistance which introduces an innovative approach to develop next-generation multifunctional flexible fabrics featuring superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic surfaces.

Catalytic performance decline is a general issue when shaping fine powder into macroscale catalysts (e.g., beads, fiber, pellets). To address this challenge, a phenolic resin-assisted strategy was proposed to prepare porous Co/N carbon beads (ZACBs) at millimeter scale via the phase inversion method followed by confined pyrolysis. Specially, p-aminophenol–formaldehyde (AF) resin-coated zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) nanoparticles were introduced to polyacrylonitrile (PAN) solution before pyrolysis. The thermosetting of the coated AF improved the interface compatibility between the ZIF-67 and PAN matrix, inhibiting the shrinkage of ZIF-67 particles, thus significantly improving the void structure of ZIF-67 and the dispersion of active species. The obtained ZACBs exhibited a 99.9% removal rate of tetracycline (TC) within 120 min, with a rate constant of 0.069 min−1(2.3 times of ZIF-67/PAN carbon beads). The quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) tests showed that radicals dominated the reaction. This work provides new insight into the fabrication of high-performance MOF catalysts with outstanding recycling properties, which may promote the use of MOF powder in more practical applications.

The rapid development of hydrogen storage-related technologies has promoted the commercialization of the hydrogen energy industry. Ammonia borane (AB) has the advantages of good reaction controllability, high hydrogen purity, good hydrogen storage capacity and environmentally friendly by-products. It is one of the most studied hydrogen storage materials at present. In this study, [Pd 3 Cl(PPh 2 ) 2 (PPh 3 ) 3 ] + (Pd 3 ) nanoclusters stabilized by triphenylphosphine were successfully deposited into ZIF-67 via an in-situ synthesis approach. A series of Pd₃@ZIF-67 derivatives with low palladium loading were subsequently prepared through heat treatment at varying temperatures (Pd₃@ZIF-67–100, Pd₃@ZIF-67–200, Pd₃@ZIF-67–300, Pd₃@ZIF-67–400, Pd₃@ZIF-67–500, and Pd₃@ZIF-67–600). The influence of varying heat treatment temperatures on the hydrolytic activity of AB catalyzed by the Pd₃@ZIF-67-derived nanocatalyst was systematically investigated. The results show that the Pd 3 @ZIF-67 derived catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic activity due to the presence of a synergistic effect of palladium and Co 3 O 4 . Specifically, the turnover frequency (TOF) based on the active palladium content for the hydrolysis of AB at 298 K were determined as follows: 4431.88 mol H2 ·min −1 ·mol Pd −1 (Pd 3 @ZIF-67–200), 4880.65 mol H2 ·min −1 ·mol Pd −1 (Pd 3 @ZIF-67–300), 2586.81 mol H2 ·min −1 ·mol Pd −1 (Pd 3 @ZIF-67–400), 4160.14 mol H2 ·min −1 ·mol Pd −1 (Pd 3 @ZIF-67–500), 3449.82 mol H2 ·min −1 ·mol Pd −1 (Pd 3 @ZIF-67–600). As the calcination temperature rises, the structure of the Pd 3 @ZIF-67 derived catalyst undergoes a gradual transformation from a complete framework to partial collapse and finally reconstruction. Structural changes led to a distinct "inverse volcano" tendency in the catalytic activity of Pd 3 @ZIF-67 derived catalysts. This hybrid catalyst design strategy optimizes the utilization of noble metal elements and provides a universal platform for the development of efficient metal matrix composite nanocatalysts.

ZIF-67-derived Co–N–C catalysts exhibit efficient water-splitting performance and thus have attracted intense research interest. However, the serious Co agglomeration and loss of most N atoms due to high-temperature pyrolysis limit the further improvement of their electrocatalytic performance. Herein, we report a ZIF-67-derived 2D porous N-doped carbon nanosheet decorated with a Co nanoflake catalyst (Co@NC/CC-500) for OER and HER by a facile pyrolysis method at a low temperature of 500 °C. Benefiting from the ultrahigh N doping (12 atom %) and uniformly dispersed Co nanoflakes on 2D porous carbon nanosheets, which lead to a high content of Co–N active sites, the Co@NC/CC-500 catalyst exhibits outstanding performance toward the HER and OER with overpotentials of 95 and 183 mV at 10 mA cm–2 in 1 M KOH, respectively. Furthermore, the alkaline water electrolyzer using Co@NC/CC-500 as the cathode and anode catalysts can achieve a current density of 10 mA cm–2 at a cell voltage of 1.52 V. This special low-temperature production method may be extensively utilized to create precisely defined monometal or bimetal nanoflakes decorated on 2D porous N-doped carbon nanosheets for diverse electrochemical energy applications.

Rational surface engineering of nanocatalysts offers new solutions against antibiotic-resistant infections. We designed and fabricated hierarchical MnO₂@Au@ZIF-67 nanoparticles (NPs) with triple interfacial functionalities for synergistic antibacterial therapy. The acid-responsive ZIF-67 surface degrades in infected wounds, releasing Co²⁺ to catalyze •OH generation via Fenton-like reactions at the material-bacteria interface. Simultaneously, ultrasmall Au surfaces deplete glucose through oxidase-mimetic catalysis, producing gluconic acid that accelerates ZIF-67 dissolution. The MnO₂ core surface decomposes H₂O₂ to supply O₂, enhancing Au catalysis and alleviating hypoxia. Comprehensive surface characterization (TEM, SEM, XPS, XRD) confirmed structural integrity and reactive sites. In vitro , the NPs achieved > 99 % bacterial killing (S. aureus/E. coli ) through ROS-mediated membrane disruption (validated by SEM/CLSM). In vivo , they enabled 98.45 % bacterial clearance and accelerated wound healing via collagen reorganization (H&E/Masson staining). This surface-engineered platform demonstrates how interfacial catalytic cascades can be harnessed for effective non-antibiotic antimicrobial applications.
