In this work, a simple room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) method was first proposed to detect adriamycin, by using a functional material of Mn doped ZnS quantum dots (Mn–ZnS QDs) composited with poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA). After PDDA was associated to the
Mn–ZnS QDs, the RTP intensity was significantly enhanced. As a result, Mn–ZnS QDs/PDDA nanoassemblies greatly improve the adriamycin detection ability of QDs and provide an important method for developing more effective and sensitive adriamycin detection sensor. The method based
upon RTP has a linear range from 0.5 to 64.0 μM with a detection limit (3σ/s) for adriamycin of 0.45 μM. The developed method was further successfully applied to detect adriamycin in human serum samples (diluted 50 times) with satisfactory results, and
the recovery ranged from 98.3 to 101.3.

In this work, a facile strategy was developed for tunable synthesis and assembly of ZnS nanoparticles at ionic liquid (IL)–H2O interfaces. The assembled ZnS films at different IL–H2O interfaces were characterized and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, selected area electron diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that by using ILs with different anions and/or different alkyl chain lengths of the imidazolium cations, the properties of IL–H2O interfaces could be modulated, which in turn directed the formation of flexible ZnS films with various morphologies and different crystal phases. On the basis of the controlled experiments, a possible growth mechanism was suggested for the ZnS films at IL–H2O interfaces. Furthermore, water contact angle measurements showed that the as-prepared ZnS films demonstrated adjustable wetting properties from superhydrophobicity to hydrophilicity.

ZnSe:Mn and core–shell ZnSe:Mn/ZnS doped quantum dots (d-dots) have been synthesized by using the alkylamine–H2Se complex and thiourea as new phosphine-free Se and S precursors, respectively. Absorption spectroscopy, steady-state (solution and solid-state) and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy were used to characterize the resulting d-dots. Results showed that Mn2+ was successfully doped and mainly distributed in the middle layer of the actual ZnSe/ZnSe:Mn/ZnSe d-dots and ZnSe/ZnSeS:Mn/ZnS d-dots which were simply referred to as ZnSe:Mn and core–shell ZnSe:Mn/ZnS d-dots with ZnSe and ZnS outmost shells, respectively. The increase in the intensity of phosphorescence from the dopant Mn2+ was obtained by the corresponding injection of Zn precursor or Zn/S precursors for ZnSe or ZnS shell growth. As compared to the ZnSe shell, the ZnS shell was grown more significantly on the surface of the ZnSe:Mn core, which led to larger d-dots due to a thicker ZnS shell and thus deeper doping of Mn2+ in the larger host. Outstanding improvement has been achieved in both phosphorescence intensity and stability after growth of the ZnS shell relative to the ZnSe shell. The corresponding phosphorescence efficiency of the resulting d-dot cyclohexane solution was enhanced from about 8% for the ZnSe:Mn d-dots to 35% for the ZnSe:Mn/ZnS d-dots.

Polymerizable ZnS nanoparticles (NPs) were fabricated in N,N′-dimethylacrylamide via a novel facile and effective strategy, and a series of transparent bulk nanocomposites were also prepared based on such polymerizable ZnS NPs. The structure, surface chemistry and distribution of the polymerizable ZnS NPs were studied by powder XRD, FTIR, 1H NMR and TEM. The results indicated that we have successfully synthesized the polymerizable ZnS NPs with an average size of 4–5 nm by the innovatory method and the surface of these NPs were terminated with phenyl and vinyl groups which made sure of the good dispersion in the monomers. The polymerizable ZnS NPs could be easily polymerized with the monomers and fabricated a series of bulk nanocomposites. The obtained bulk nanocomposites (3 mm) exhibit good transmittance in the visible range and its refractive index are in the range from 1.527 to 1.598 in 632.8 nm by changing the content of the polymerizable ZnS NPs from 0 to 11.1 wt%. This novel strategy opens a new gate to produce transparent bulk nanocomposites with tunable refractive indices for potential optical device applications.

We show that Mn(II)-doped ZnS quantum dots coated with an acrylamide-based molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP-coated QDs) can act as a fluorescent probe for the selective and sensitive detection of the insecticide chlorpyrifos (CPF). The fluorescence of the coated QDs is quenched on loading the MIP with CPF, and the effect is much stronger for the MIP than for the non-imprinted polymer. The MIP-coated QDs were characterized by fluorescence spectrophotometry, X-ray powder diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. Under optimal conditions, the relative fluorescence intensity of the MIP-coated QDs decreases linearly with the increasing concentration of CPF in the 0.3–60 μmol L −1 concentration range, and the detection limit is 17 nmol L −1 . The method has been used for the determination of CPF in spiked water samples and gave recoveries in the range from 87.1 to 94.5 % with relative standard deviations in the 2.9 to 6.5 % range. The method is simple, safe and inexpensive.

N-type macroporous silicon microcavity structures were prepared using electrochemical etching in an HF solution in the absence of light and oxidants. The CdSe/ZnS water-soluble quantum dot-labeled DNA target molecules were detected by monitoring the microcavity reflectance spectrum, which was characterized by the reflectance spectrum defect state position shift resulting from changes to the structures’ refractive index. Quantum dots with a high refractive index and DNA coupling can improve the detection sensitivity by amplifying the optical response signals of the target DNA. The experimental results show that DNA combined with a quantum dot can improve the sensitivity of DNA detection by more than five times.Keywords:N-type porous silicon;quantum dot labeling;QD-DNA;reflectance spectrum

A cathodic “signal-on” method was developed for the photoelectrochemical detection of Hg 2+ ions. Here, ZnS quantum dots (QDs) capped with mercaptoacetic acid was assembled on the surface of an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode through electrostatic interaction between poly dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (PDDA) and the ZnS QDs. HgS was formed on the ZnS surface by ion-exchange in the presence of Hg 2+ ions in solution. The cathodic photocurrent increased under visible light irradiation with a light-emitting diode lamp. This novel strategy exhibits high sensitivity and good selectivity owing to the low background signal and the benefits of ion-exchange technology. The cathodic photocurrent increases linearly with Hg 2+ concentration in the range 1 × 10 −11 –1 × 10 −6 M, providing a detection limit of 2 pM (S/N = 3). This sensor provides a promising new strategy for the detection of trace heavy metal ions.

With the advancement of economic development and the increasing complexity of commodity distribution, efficient and precise anti-counterfeiting measures have garnered significant attention in recent decades. This challenge necessitates the development of flexible films exhibiting both superior mechanical and optical properties to accommodate various anti-counterfeiting applications. This study introduces a composite film comprised of waterborne polyurethane (WPU), gelatin quantum dots (QDs), and glycerol. Glycerol, employed as a plasticizer, enhances the film's plasticity by disrupting hydrogen bonds within the matrix. The tensile strength decreased from 7.7 MPa to 1.73 MPa, while the elongation at break increased from 410 % to 656 %, compared to the samples without glycerol. The resulting films exhibit advantageous properties, including facile preparation, high transmittance, excellent optical properties, and excellent mechanical performance. Additionally, the photoluminescence intensity decreased by only 15 % after being placed in air for 30 days. They demonstrate commendable stability under ambient temperature and environmental conditions, making them suitable for diverse and intricate anti-counterfeiting applications. The emission wavelength of the composite films was tuned by adjusting the cation ratio of the QDs, and the mechanical properties can be adjusted by varying the QD and glycerol contents. This work offers valuable insights for the development of advanced flexible materials for anti-counterfeiting purposes.

In the realm of photodetector (PD) technology, photoelectrochemical (PEC) PDs have garnered attention owing to their inherent advantages. Advances in this field depend on functional nanostructured materials, which are pivotal in improving the separation and transport of photogenerated electron–hole pairs to improve device efficiency. Herein, a highly photosensitive PEC UV PD is built using integrated self-supporting SiC/ZnS heterojunction nanowire array photoelectrodes through anodization and chemical deposition. Compared with the original SiC nanoarrays, the optimized SiC/ZnS-25 nanoarrays exhibit high photocurrent density ( D ph , 809.2 µA cm −2 ), rapid rise/decay times ( τ r / τ d , 4/21 ms), high responsivity ( R λ , 1.226 A W −1 ), remarkable detectivity ( D * , 2.517 × 10 11 Jones), and large external quantum efficiency ( EQE , 40.57%) under 375 nm UV light with a bias voltage of 0.6 V. Furthermore, SiC/ZnS-25 delivers excellent self-powered performance, with R λ , D * , and EQE reaching 0.91 A W −1 , 1.69 × 10 11 Jones, and 30.24%, respectively. In addition, the device exhibits excellent long-term operation and aging stability under a bias voltage of 0.6 V and under self-powered conditions. The excellent photodetection behaviors of the SiC/ZnS PEC PD are mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect of the novel well-aligned nanowire geometry, heterojunction with ZnS nanofilms of optimal thickness, and integrated self-supporting configuration of the photoelectrode.

Chiral perovskite materials are being extensively studied as one of the most promising candidates for circularly polarized luminescence (CPL)-related applications. Balancing chirality and photoluminescence (PL) properties is of great importance for enhancing the value of the dissymmetry factor ( g lum ), and a higher g lum value indicates better CPL. Chiral perovskite/quantum dot (QD) composites emerge as an effective strategy for overcoming the dilemma that achieving strong chirality and PL in chiral perovskite while at the same time achieving high g lum in this composite is very crucial. Here, we choose diphenyl sulfoxide (DPSO) as an additive in the precursor solution of chiral perovskite to regulate the lattice distortion. How structural variation affects the chiral optoelectronic properties of the chiral perovskite has been further investigated. We find that chiral perovskite/CdSe–ZnS QD composites with strong CPL have been achieved, and the calculated maximum | g lum | of the composites increased over one order of magnitude after solvent-additive modulation (1.55 × 10 −3 for R-DMF/QDs, 1.58 × 10 −2 for R-NMP-DPSO/QDs, −2.63 × 10 −3 for S-DMF/QDs, and −2.65 × 10 −2 for S-NMP-DPSO/QDs), even at room temperature. Our findings suggest that solvent-additive modulation can effectively regulate the lattice distortion of chiral perovskite, enhancing the value of g lum for chiral perovskite/CdSe–ZnS QD composites.

A ratiometric fluorescence sensor based on Mn doped ZnS QDs was designed to detect ascorbic acid with highly selectivity . The synthesized Mn doped ZnS QDs showed a new luminescence performance due to new electron hole recombination center formed in the nanocrystals . The dopant-related luminescence of Mn 2+ appeared at 590 nm, and the best dopant-related luminescence effect can be obtained by changing the doping amount of Mn 2+ during the synthesis process. Ascorbic acid (AA) is known to be oxidized by Fe 3+ to generate dehydroascorbic acid (DHAA). If DHAA combined with o-phenylenediamine (OPD), a fluorescent product quinoxaline DFQ was obtained. Mixing DFQ with Mn doped ZnS QDs , two fluorescence emission appeared at 434 nm and 590 nm. After optimizing the concentration of Fe 3+ and OPD, solution pH and reaction time, the results showed a good linear relationship between AA and the ratio of F 434 /F 590 . The linear range of this ratiometric fluorescence sensor for detection of ascorbic acid were 0.5–40 μmol·L −1 and 40–80 μmol·L −1 , and the detection limit was low to 0.21 μmol·L −1 . Compared with the single fluorescence analysis method for AA detection, this work has stronger anti-interference and greatly improved sensitivity and selectivity by ratiometric fluorescence.

Diabetic wound healing is often hampered by persistent oxidative stress, poor angiogenesis, and bacterial infections. Herein, ZnS/keratin nanoclusters(ZnS@Ker) were first synthesized using the ion diffusion method based on chelation between keratin and metal ions, achieving the controlled release of hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) and Zn 2+ ions. These nanoclusters were then co -electrospun with polyurethane (PU) to afford PU/ZnS@Ker mats. These mats demonstrated acidic responsive release of Zn 2+ and H 2 S under an infected wound microenvironment, fostering cell adhesion, migration, and angiogenesis while effectively combating bacterial infection and scavenging reactive oxygen species. Notably, in vivo wound healing studies in diabetic rats revealed that PU/ZnS@Ker mats promoted collagen deposition and tissue regeneration, thereby accelerating wound healing. Taken together, PU/ZnS@Ker biocomposite mats emerge as an up-and-coming solution for managing diabetic wound healing.
