An integrated self-charging power system incorporating flexible fiber-shaped coaxial asymmetric supercapacitors (FASCs) with flexible triboelectric nanogenerators (FTENGs) has the potential to harvest and store energy simultaneously for achieving self-charged power pack. In this study, we develops a new strategy for fabricating a metal-organic framework (MOF) for the template-directed growth of hierarchically well-oriented nanowire arrays based on carbon nanotube fibers (CNTFs) for electrochemical supercapacitors . Uniform CNTFs@ZnCo 2 O 4 @Zn-Co-S hybrid arrays (HAs) derived from a zinc/cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (Zn/Co-ZIF) are first fabricated via a facile annealing and sulfuration process and a CNTFs@H-Co 3 O 4 @CoNC HA derived from a Co-based MOF is synthesized via oxidation and carbonization processes ; the products act as positive and negative electrodes respectively in the assembled FASCs. The as-prepared CNTFs@ZnCo 2 O 4 @Zn-Co-S HAs and CNTFs@H-Co 3 O 4 @CoNC HAs are endowed with rich reaction sites, a facile ion diffusion path , and improved conductivity because of their unique hierarchical structure and good synergistic effect , which improves the electrochemical properties of the MOF derivatives. In addition, the assembled FASCs device exhibits a remarkable electrochemical performance with excellent rate capability. This study provides a strategy for the rational design of hierarchically structured, well-oriented MOFs and derivative arrays with high electrochemical performance and mechanical flexibility. Moreover, the flexible fiber-shaped MOF–derivative HA asymmetric supercapacitor is charged by a flexible triboelectric nanogenerator, demonstrating the promise of an self-charging power pack that has considerable potential for developing flexible multifunctional electronic devices.

Fiber-type solid-contact ion-selective electrodes (SC-ISE) show unique superiorities for flexible and wearable sweat sensors with excellent wearing experiences. However, it is still challenging to construct high-quality fiber-type SC-ISE with robust sensing properties and facile fabrication methods . Here, we propose a new fiber-type flexible potentiometric sensor platform based on the conductive metal-organic framework (MOF) composite carbon nanotubes fiber (CNTF). The vertically aligned Nickel triphenylene-fused metal catecholate (NiCAT) nanowires arrays are in situ grown on CNTF through a bottom-up one-step hydrothermal synthetic approach. Nafion coating is designed to improve the surface hydrophobicity for avoiding the aqueous layer formation at the solid-contact=ion-selective-membrane interface. The well-defined solid-contact transducer of Nafion/NiCAT@CNTF exhibits the greatly enlarged double-layer capacitance (34.39 mF/cm 2 ) attributed to its ordered porous architecture and low contact impedance. Consequently, the as-prepared Na + -ISE displays a sensitive near-Nernstian response of 58.69 ± 0.77 mV/dec, an excellent long-term potential stability with an ultralow drift of 8.1 ± 4.1 μV/h, and a good electrode-to-electrode reproducibility E 0 of 308.0 ± 3.1 mV. An integrated wearable band-based sweat sensor device was developed for on-body sweat sodium monitoring during exercise. This platform provides an efficient and facile approach to construct reliable fiber-type potentiometric sensors for wearable applications.

Carbon nanotube fiber (CNTF) has promising applications in the fields of electronic devices, sensors, smart fabrics, electrochemical electrodes, electromagnetic shielding, electric heating elements, and composite materials due to its excellent thermal and electrical properties. In this research, the CNTF was continually prepared through floating catalyst chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using a systematic high-temperature shaft furnace equipment. As for applications, an electrochemical electrode based on the CNTF wrapping showed stronger current responding signal due to its high specific surface. Then, a CNTF-based electrothermal element could heat 25 ml water up to 40 °C within 0.5 h. After that, a unidirectional electrically conductive tape based on the CNTF showed different electromagnetic shielding with changing wave vibration direction. Following with that, a CNTF tubular composite was also successfully fabricated showed more light-weight property. Finally, the electrical variation under different forces was studied for the exploration of the CNTF in implantable biosensing electrode. Graphical abstract

Silver–zinc (Ag–Zn) batteries are regarded as a promising power source for flexible and wearable electronics due to their high safety, high energy density, and steady output voltage. However, the weak flexibility and poor cycle performance significantly limit the practical use of Ag–Zn batteries. In this work, we propose a novel flexible fibrous quasi-solid-state mild Ag–Zn battery with superb cycling performance by using a mild electrolyte and highly flexible binder-free electrodes. Carbon nanotube fibers serve as the current collector to improve the flexibility of flexible Ag–Zn cells. The mild electrolyte containing ZnCl2 and Na2SO4 not only prevents the dissolution of the Ag cathode but also impedes the heterogeneous growth of Zn dendrites. With 1500 cycles at 1 A g−1, the fibrous quasi-solid-state mild Ag–Zn battery achieves a remarkable capacity retention of 93.1%. Moreover, this novel flexible quasi-solid-state mild Ag–Zn battery can deliver a high capacity of 103.51 mA h g−1 at 0.1 A g−1. The fibrous quasi-solid-state mild Ag–Zn battery demonstrates remarkable flexibility and excellent bending ability (after 600 bending cycles with capacity retention of 89%). This pioneering work sheds light on the establishment of high-performance quasi-solid-state mild Ag–Zn batteries for burgeoning wearable electronics.

Assembling thermoelectric modules into fabric to harvest energy from body heat could one day power multitudinous wearable electronics. However, the invalid 2D architecture of fabric limits the application in thermoelectrics. Here, we make the valid thermoelectric fabric woven out of thermoelectric fibers producing an unobtrusive working thermoelectric module. Alternately doped carbon nanotube fibers wrapped with acrylic fibers are woven into π-type thermoelectric modules. Utilizing elasticity originating from interlocked thermoelectric modules, stretchable 3D thermoelectric generators without substrate can be made to enable sufficient alignment with the heat flow direction. The textile generator shows a peak power density of 70 mWm −2 for a temperature difference of 44 K and excellent stretchability (~80% strain) with no output degradation. The compatibility between body movement and sustained power supply is further displayed. The generators described here are true textiles, proving active thermoelectrics can be woven into various fabric architectures for sensing, energy harvesting, or thermal management.

Wearable electrochemical sensors have shown potential for personal health monitoring due to their ability to detect biofluids non-invasively at the molecular level. Smart fibers with high flexibility and comfort are currently ideal for fabricating electrochemical sensors, but little research has focused on fluid transport at the human-machine interface, which is of great significance for continuous and stable monitoring and skin comfort. Here, we report an electrochemical sensing fiber with a special core-sheath structure, whose outer layer is wound by nanofibers with a hierarchical Fermat helix structure which has excellent moisture conductivity, and the inner layer is based on CNT fibers covered by three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide folds which have good sensing properties after modification of active materials such as enzymes and selective membranes. This kind of fiber enables efficient sweat capture thus only 0.1 μL of sweat is required to activate the device, and it responses very fast (1.5 s). The fibers were further integrated into the garment to build a wireless sweat detection system, enabling stable monitoring of six physiological markers in sweat (glucose, lactate, Na+, K+, Ca2+, pH). This work provides a feasible proposal for future personalized medicine and the construction of "smart sensing garments".
