Traditional mica-based composites are limited to the application in high-voltage electric insulation by their underdeveloped breakdown strength and mechanical robustness. Herein, a novel double-network mica-based composite film was fabricated by introducing aramid nanofiber (ANF) and nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC), which cooperatively enhanced interfacial adhesion and reinforcing effect. The ANF-NFC/mica@PDA composite film exhibited high mechanical strength (~ 28.76 MPa), excellent dielectric breakdown strength (~ 33.45 kV/mm) and positive mechanical flexibility. Moreover, the composite represented stable dielectric property at high temperature, which meant the ANF-NFC/mica@PDA composite film could be applied in more complex environments. This work provides a new route toward manufacturing superior performance mica-based composites for the electrical insulation field.

To design ultralight nanocomposite aerogels with good compatibility of different components, excellent thermostability, flame retardancy and strength is an urgent issue to be addressed. In this work, we fabricated a lightweight, compressible aramid nanofiber/silicon dioxide (ANF/SiO 2 ) composite aerogel by sol-gel method. The homogeneous SiO 2 knots were formed in-situ among the nanofibers resulting a semi-interpenetrating network structure. Due to the supporting effect of the ANF on the overall skeleton and the inhibiting effect of SiO 2 the compression properties of the ANF/SiO 2 aerogels were significantly improved. In addition, the aerogel shows low thermal conductivity, excellent thermal stability and flame retardancy meanwhile advanced self-extinguishing properties even after two minutes combustion. The design does not rely on any toxic or corrosive substances and provides a new insight into the preparation of composite aerogels with green, compressibility, thermal insulation and excellent flame retardancy.

With the miniaturization of electronic devices, the creation of efficient and lightweight electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials is of imminent significance. In this context, we reported an electromagnetic shielding membrane with hydrophobic, antioxidative, and high temperature stability. The chemically cross-linked Aramid nanofibers (ANF)/MXene@Ga/Gd 2 O 3 (CAMG) nanocomposite membranes exhibit a considerable tensile strength and possess exceptional flexibility. The CAMG shielding membranes demonstrate multiple heterogeneous interfaces and a magnetic-dielectric synergistic system, thereby effectively enhancing the absorption shielding efficiency, with the specific shielding effectiveness per unit volume (SSE/t) reaching 6788 dB cm 2 g −1 . Furthermore, the composite membranes demonstrate remarkable electrothermal capabilities, acting as pliable heaters with notable, swiftly replicable, and consistent electrothermal effects at reduced voltages. Additionally, they possess superior heat dissipation efficiency and ensure a uniform heat dispersion. The exceptional electromagnetic shielding performance and multifunctionality of the C-ANF/MXene@Ga/Gd 2 O 3 shielding membranes imply their instructive relevance in next-generation fields such as flexible electronics and aerospace.

Multi-functional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials are crucial for advanced electronic devices, requiring low thickness, exceptional shielding performance, and stability, especially in extreme conditions. In this study, the hollow sandwich MXene/h-AgNWs/ANF (AMAgMA) composite films were fabricated via template sacrificing method and layer-by-layer vacuum assisted filtration. Specifically, the hollow MXene was created using PMMA as the template, together with AgNWs for the conductive layer, while ANF provided stability and high temperature resistance as the protective layer. The optimized EMI shielding efficiency (SE) reached 88.2 dB for a film thickness of 93 μm, with an SSE/t value of 18160 dB cm 2 ·g −1 , which was attributed to the hollow structure and continuous double conductive network design. Remarkably, EMI SE of the films maintained even after 70 days of exposure to oxidation, acid, alkali, salt, and ultrasonic treatment thanks to the sandwich design. Additionally, the composite films displayed excellent heat transfer and thermal stability (530 °C), alongside notable flame retardancy and self-extinguishing properties. The superior EMI shielding performance and stability in extreme environments suggest a promising application potential in advanced electronics.

Developing a multifunctional protection material compatible with infrared (IR) stealth and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is urgently required but challenging to ensure special human safety and maintain the smooth operation of electronic equipment. Herein, it is designed and fabricated a double-layered ANF/MXene film containing a thermally insulated aramid nanofiber (ANF) aerogel and low emissivity MXene coating with integrated long-term thermal camouflage at elevated temperatures and highly efficient EMI shielding capability. In this system, the lower aerogel film can act as a barrier to insulate heat transfer through its novel skin–core structure under ultralow directional thermal conduction, while the upper Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene coating can provide a very low emissivity surface and highly conductive network. Owing to its unique double-layer structure, the ANF/MXene film demonstrates a significant EMI shielding effectiveness of 43.6 dB and a remarkably low emissivity of 0.24, delivering excellent IR stealth performance across various ambient temperatures. This research lays the foundation for the creation of versatile protective materials that have great potential for use in both military and civilian contexts.

Robust ANF/CNT/PPy bilayer aerogels feature vertical porous channels. • Amide groups lower vaporization enthalpy via H-bonds for fast evaporation. • Vertical pores induce self-desalting to prevent salt crystallization. • Unlike disposable devices, the robust aerogel is intrinsically recyclable. Solar-driven interfacial evaporation (SDIE) has emerged as a promising strategy to alleviate global freshwater scarcity by harnessing renewable solar energy. However, its large-scale implementation remains impeded by critical bottlenecks, primarily salt accumulation-induced performance decay, low energy utilization, and suboptimal evaporation rates. To bridge these gaps, we engineered a vertically aligned, hierarchical porous bilayer aerogel based on aramid nanofibers (ANF), designed to synergize robust salt resistance with localized thermal confinement. Strategically, the upper photothermal conversion layer integrates carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and polypyrrole (PPy) to maximize broad-spectrum light absorption and heat generation. Conversely, the underlying ANF layer serves a dual function: its vertically aligned channels ensure rapid water replenishment to prevent salt crystallization, while its intrinsically low thermal conductivity minimizes downward heat loss, thereby optimizing energy utilization. Consequently, this superhydrophilic architecture yields a remarkable evaporation rate of 3.35 kg m −2 h −1 and a superior energy conversion efficiency of 94.68% under 1 sun illumination. Beyond high efficiency, the evaporator exhibits exceptional operational stability, maintaining performance during continuous 10-h seawater desalination. Additionally, the bilayer aerogel exhibits outstanding salt tolerance and recyclability. Meanwhile, its superior corrosion resistance and wastewater purification capabilities enable SDIE technology to operate stably and continuously in real-world applications, showcasing remarkable application potential. Flexible and highly conductive fiber has attracted considerable attention with its massive potential in functional fabric, stretchable circuits, and wearable electronic devices. Herein, we prepared a novel secondary structure composite fiber based on aramid nanofibers (ANF)-reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fiber accompanied by carbon nanotube (CNT)-coated on its surface. The composite fibers' dispersibility, micromorphology, and application were systematically investigated. The TPU/ANF-0.5 wt% sample showed a robust reinforcing effect, as Young's modulus and tensile strength reached 17.2 and 20.2 MPa, respectively. Meanwhile, the conductive coating layer in the outer frame was formed via a TPU solution with 10 wt% CNT content, which gives the fiber excellent flexible electrical conductivity. Such a unique structural design enables the fiber to be closely attached to human skin and monitor human movement. In addition, this TPU/ANF@CNT composite fiber can also be used for light and electric heating. The photothermal equilibrium temperature can reach 120°C in 50 s, and the electrothermal equilibrium temperature increases to 62°C under 30 V. In summary, this secondary structure composite fiber with excellent electrical and mechanical properties might have great practical application potential in wearable electronic devices.

Due to the rapid growth in the miniaturization, portability, and flexibility of electronic devices, the demand for polymer composites with high thermal conductivity and electromagnetic shielding properties has increased significantly. Herein, we present a multifunctional thin film with a Janus-like structure that simultaneously enhances conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness. Owing to the unique Janus-like structure, heating performance tests show that the composite film has a high Joule heating temperature of 129.4 °C at a low supply voltage of 3.0 V, a fast response time of less than 12 seconds, and excellent sensitivity, heating stability and reliability. In addition, the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of AgNWs-Fe3O4/ANF can reach 80.0 dB at 8.5 GHz. This excellent performance of this multifunctional bilayer composite film demonstrates its potential for advanced electronic applications such as wearable devices, artificial intelligence and high-performance heating devices.

To solve the poor interface between aramid fiber and rubber, this paper studies a method of constructing nanostructures on the fiber surface. First, functional groups such as hydroxyl and amino groups were introduced onto aramid fiber through the Michael addition of tannic acid and polyethyleneimine . Then, the modified aramid fiber was impregnated in the aramid nanofiber/carbon nanotube aqueous dispersion to prepare a surface-coated fiber. The fibers and surface nanostructures were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, Raman spectroscopy , X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermalgravimetric analysis, and H pull-out tests in detail. The results show that the H pull-out force of the coated fiber is increased by 126.4% compared with the original aramid fiber, which is due to the good mechanical interlocking at the interface of the composites. In addition, carbon nanotubes could form a conductive path through mutual entanglement and overlap on the surface of aramid fiber, which also gives the function of real-time monitoring of deformation of the composites.

Flexible and wearable gas sensors are drawing more attention in monitoring air quality and human health. Concurrently, high response, low operation-temperature, and long-term stability are highly required for the gas sensors. Herein, an aramid nanofiber (ANF)-based ammonia (NH 3 ) flexible gas sensor with high response, room temperature stability and low detection limit was prepared. The competitive performances of the gas sensor were achieved by well-constructed MXene@ZnO heterojunctions on ANF aerogel. The obtained ANF/MXene@ZnO flexible gas sensor contributed to a response value of 1 ppm NH 3 as high as 150.7% at room temperature. Furthermore, the sensor also exhibited good long-term stability for 50 days. The excellent NH 3 sensing performances of the flexible ANF/MXene@ZnO sensor is attributed to its high surface area, abundant reaction sites, and the formation of MXene@ZnO heterojunction. The metal-like properties of MXene can provide a variety of electron transport channels, speeding up the electron transport rate. In addition, adsorption of more NH 3 molecules can also enhance the sensitivity of sensitive materials. According to our density functional theory calculations, the adsorption of NH 3 by MXene@ZnO in the materials we studied can reach −1.54 V. This indicates that MXene@ZnO has a strong affinity for NH 3 and can effectively capture NH 3 molecules and increase the response value. This work is expected to afford an effective strategy for designing high-performance flexible gas sensors at room temperature.

Aerogel fibers have exhibited crucial application prospects in wearable heat-insulated fabrics. However, developing aerogel fibers with robust mechanical performance and high flexibility remains challenging due to their inherent fragility caused by high porosity. Herein, aramid nanofibers (ANF) reinforced polyimide (PI) aerogel fibers (ANF/PIAFs) are presented with tunable in situ core-sheath structure for super-flexible and super-toughness wearable heat-insulated fabrics by a novel two-step (2Step) phase separation strategy. The results demonstrate that the formation of sheath thickness and pore morphology of aerogel fibers can be tuned by the phase separation steps. Attributed to the core-sheath structure and the entanglement of chains with the introduction of ANF nanofibers, the tough and flexible ANF/PIAFs demonstrate improved tensile modulus (748.53 MPa), tensile strength (51.94 MPa) and fracture energy (18.28 MJ/m 3 ) by 2.5 times, 11.5 times, and 288.2 times compared with the unprocessed PI aerogel fibers. Moreover, the addition of ANF effectively inhibits the shrinkage of aerogel fibers, which maintains the high thermal insulation ability (0.034 W/(m·K)). The strategy outlined in this study introduces a novel and universal method for fabricating aerogel fibers with a core-sheath structure using the improved phase separation technique, demonstrating the promising potential for applications in flexible thermal-insulated fabrics.

Two-dimensional (2D) boron nitride nanosheet (BNNS) is promising in polymer-based thermal management materials (TMMs) by pre-constructing three-dimensional (3D) thermally conductive skeleton, but it yet suffers from the challenges of high-effective exfoliation and affinitive compatibility with matrix. In this work, we developed a one-step exfoliation and deprotonation approach by the high-effective ball milling technique to prepare aramid nanofiber (ANF)/BNNS suspension. Under the strong collision/shear effect of ball-milling, micron-level hBN sheets were exfoliated into smaller and thinner BNNS with edge functional groups, meanwhile, poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide (PPTA) fibers were split into ANF by dissociating the intermolecular hydrogen bonds. More importantly, both the exfoliation and deprotonation could be accelerated by each other to achieve a 100% yield of ANF/BNNS suspension with strong hydrogen/covalent bonding interactions between them. Subsequently, the prepared ANF/BNNS suspension was used to construct 3D vertically aligned ANF/BNNS skeleton by the unidirectional freezing method. The obtained epoxy-based composite (EP/ANF/BNNS) revealed excellent thermal conductivity of 2.41 Wm −1 K −1 at 14.9 vol% BNNS loading due to the vertically oriented heat conduction paths and low interfacial thermal resistance in the skeleton. Moreover, EP/ANF/BNNS composite showed high thermal stability and extraordinary fire retardancy with dramatically decreased heat release rate (265 W g −1 ) and total heat release (20.6 kJ g −1 ). Therefore, this work demonstrates a high-efficient one-step ball-milling exfoliation and deprotonation technique for preparing ANF/BNNS suspension, which reveals an enormous potential in preparing advanced TMMs by constructing 3D thermally conductive skeletons.
