BiOCl and its derivatives show considerable promise for supercapacitor applications because of their high theoretical specific capacity and rich redox activity. However, their practical performance is often limited by poor electrical conductivity and structural instability. To address these issues, we constructed a BiOCl/Bi₂₄O₃₁Cl₁₀ heterojunction to improve both charge transport and structural stability. A flake-like BiOCl precursor was first synthesized and then electrochemically treated at a constant current of 0.02 A over a wide pH range (1−13) to generate a BiOCl/Bi₂₄O₃₁Cl₁₀ heterojunction, denoted as BiOCl-1/24-X. By tuning the pH of the reaction system, pH-dependent formation of a reconstructed Bi₂₄O₃₁Cl₁₀ phase on the BiOCl surface was achieved, thereby strengthening the interfacial interaction between the two phases. This interfacial reconstruction process modulated the extent of heterointerface formation and the concentration of oxygen-vacancy-related defects, thereby promoting ion transport and charge-transfer kinetics. The results indicate that the sample treated at pH = 9 exhibits battery-type energy-storage behavior dominated by diffusion-controlled processes. Accordingly, it delivered a specific capacity of 411C·g −1 at 1·A g −1 , far exceeding that of pristine BiOCl (80C·g −1 ). Moreover, it retained 79.3% of its initial capacity after 10,000 cycles. It also achieved an energy density of 35.67 Wh·kg −1 at a power density of 923.83 W·kg −1 . In a practical demonstration, the BiOCl-1/24//AC device powered a 3.2 V LED for 900 s, highlighting its application potential. This work proposes a facile electrochemical interfacial reconstruction strategy for developing high-performance electrode materials, offering a simpler and more effective alternative to conventional chemical methods.

Electrochemical reduction of CO 2 into high-value chemicals, such as formic acid (HCOOH), is an important way to resource CO 2 . Interfacial effects through catalyst design are important to improve the ECO 2 RR performance of Bi-based catalysts. A Bi/ATO heterojunction catalyst was constructed. The current density and FE HCOOH of Bi/ATO were 20 mA cm −2 and 95%, respectively, at a potential of -0.97 V, respectively, compared with the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE). In-situ cyclic voltammetry curves and Raman spectra showed that electron density change occurred between ATO and Bi during the ECO 2 RR process. This Interfacial electron effects increased the conversion of adsorbed CO 2 molecules to HCOOH by reducing the Interfacial resistance. Interfacial electron transfers also prevented the complete reduction of Bi by transferring electrons to ATO during the ECO 2 RR, which stabilized Bi-O structures. Bi-O improved the selectivity for HCOOH, probably by accelerating the formation of an *OCHO intermediate.

The widespread application of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) is hindered by anode dendrite formation and side reactions, reducing cycling life and performance. This study introduces Bi-Bi₂O₃-loaded carbon nanofibers (Bi-Bi₂O₃@CNF) with hierarchical hollow structures and surface grooves fabricated via electrospinning, thermal treatment, and in situ growth. Experimental characterization and density functional theory reveal that the high surface area and fibrous network of Bi-Bi₂O₃@CNF enhance electron transport and electrolyte distribution, effectively reducing ohmic resistance and concentration polarization. This “Spatial Effect” provides ample space for uniform Zn deposition. Additionally, the in situ-grown Bi-Bi₂O₃, pyridinic nitrogen, pyrrolic nitrogen, and C─O─Bi bonds induce strong zinc affinity and electronegativity, generating an “Electrostatic Confinement Effect” that amplifies the “spatial effect” into a “Dual-Confinement Effect.” This synergy ensures uniform Zn deposition, suppresses dendrites and side reactions, and mitigates polarization. Compared to pure Zn anodes, Bi-Bi₂O₃@CNF reduces polarization overpotential by 17.6%, increases hydrogen evolution overpotential by 11.52%, and maintains a Coulombic efficiency of 98.8% for over 200 h. In full cells, Zn@Bi-Bi₂O₃@CNF//MnO₂ achieves 73.0% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 1000 mA g⁻¹. This work provides a promising strategy for high-efficiency, durable, and safe AZIBs and offers valuable insights into the design of advanced aqueous energy storage materials.

The high interfacial charge transfer barrier has been a primary thermodynamic obstacle in enhancing the catalytic performance of heterojunction materials. Optimizing the interfacial environment is a promising strategy to attain superior catalytic efficiency. Hence, a Bi/Bi2MoO6/Bi24O31Br10 (Bi/BMO/BOB) composite photocatalyst was constructed by introducing a Bi–O–Mo bridge bond between the BMO and BOB interfaces and modifying metal active sites on the surface of the complex. Bi/BMO/BOB has a good capacity for CO2 photoreduction to CO. The CO yield of the Bi/BMO/BOB photocatalyst is 68.29 μmol g−1 h−1, which is obviously higher than those of the pristine BMO and BOB. As proved by density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental characterization, the Bi–O–Mo interface bridge bond adjusts the electronic structure of the contact interface and enhances the interface charge separation and transport rate. Moreover, the metal Bi nanoparticles synthesized through in situ reduction not only realize electron transfer and storage as electron collectors, but also strengthen the adsorption of CO2 molecules. The synergistic action of the two can allow the effective transfer of photogenerated electrons from BMO to BOB, which then accumulate on Bi. Such stepwise transfer of electrons increases the speed of photocatalytic reduction processes that involve multiple electrons, and effectively reduces the reaction energy barrier in the process of CO2 reduction. This mode of interatomic electron transfer bridges combined with the metal active sites not only solves the stability issues in bismuth-based semiconductors, but also aids in the development of more efficient photocatalytic systems for reduction of CO2.
