A novel visible-light-driven type II p-n heterojunction CAU-17/MoS 2 photocatalytic antifouling biocide was prepared and indicated significant inhibition against the most pharmaceutically recognized harmful microorganisms: gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ), gram-negative Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and the drug-resistant bacterium methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The antimicrobial mechanism is attributed to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as •OH, 1 O 2 due to the photocatalytic properties of CAU-17/MoS 2 heterojunction. The electron-hole complexation efficiency of the nanocomposites was analyzed using photoluminescence spectroscopy and characterized using electron microscope. It was found that the heterojunction structure of the nanocomposites provided multiple charge transfer channels to significantly improve the transporting and separating efficiency for the photo-induced electron-hole pairs, which consequently facilitated the production of ROS. Given the promising antimicrobial effects, further investigation on the broader application of CAU-17/MoS 2 biocides is needed to test the cytotoxicity, as well as the post-bacteriostatic wound healing effect upon animal models.

Given the global warming caused by excess CO2 accumulation in the atmosphere, it is essential to reduce CO2 by capturing and converting it to chemical feedstock using solar energy. Herein, a novel Cs3Bi2Br9/bismuth-based metal–organic framework (Bi-MOF) composite was prepared via an in situ growth strategy of Cs3Bi2Br9 quantum dots (QDs) on the surface of Bi-MOF nanosheets through coshared bismuth atoms. The prepared Cs3Bi2Br9/Bi-MOF exhibits bifunctional merits for both the high capture and effective conversion of CO2, among which the optimized 3Cs3Bi2Br9/Bi-MOF sample shows a CO2–CO conversion yield as high as 572.24 μmol g–1 h–1 under the irradiation of a 300 W Xe lamp. In addition, the composite shows good stability after five recycles in humid air, and the CO2 photoreduction efficiency does not decrease significantly. The mechanistic investigation uncovers that the intimate atomic-level contact between Cs3Bi2Br9 and Bi-MOF via the coshared atoms not only improves the dispersion of Cs3Bi2Br9 QDs over Bi-MOF nanosheets but also accelerates interfacial charge transfer by forming a strong bonding linkage, which endows it with the best performance of CO2 photoreduction. Our new finding of bismuth-based metal–organic framework/lead-free halide perovskite by cosharing atoms opens a new avenue for a novel preparation strategy of the heterojunction with atomic-level contact and potential applications in capture and photocatalytic conversion of CO2.

The development of nanohybrid with high electrocatalytic activity is of great significance for electrochemical sensing applications. In this work, we develop a novel and facile method to prepare a high-performance flexible nanohybrid paper electrode, based on nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) wrapped Bi nanoparticles (Bi-NPs) assembly derived from Bi-MOF, which are decorated on a flexible and freestanding graphene paper (GP) electrode. The as-obtained Bi-NPs encapsulated by an NC layer are uniform, and the active sites are increased by introducing a nitrogen source while preparing Bi-MOF. Owing to the synergistic effect between the high conductivity of GP electrode and the highly efficient electrocatalytic activity of Bi-NPs, the NC wrapped Bi-NPs (Bi-NPs@NC) modified GP (Bi-NPs@NC/GP) electrode possesses high electrochemically active area, rapid electron-transfer capability, and good electrochemical stability. To demonstrate its outstanding functionality, the Bi-NPs@NC/GP electrode has been integrated into a handheld electrochemical sensor for detecting heavy metal ions. The result shows that Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+can be detected with extremely low detection limits, wide linear range, high sensitivity, as well as good selectivity. Furthermore, it demonstrates outstanding electrochemical sensing performance in the simultaneous detection of Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+. Finally, the proposed electrochemical sensor has achieved excellent repeatability, reproducibility, stability, and reliability in measuring real water samples, which will have great potential in advanced applications in environmental systems. Keywords:Bi nanoparticles;nitrogen-doped carbon;flexible and freestanding graphene paper electrode;electrochemical catalysis and sensing;heavy metal ions detection

Metal oxides are promising alkaline battery electrodes with high theoretical capacity, but the low energy density and poor stability make them far away from actual application. Herein, single Bi-MOF derived ultrastable Bi2O3@C and BiOCl@C anodes are architected via a two-for-one manner. Specifically, optimal Bi2O3@C anode with hierarchical and porous structure delivers high specific capacity (278.3 mAh g–1 at 1 A g–1) owing to the exposed electrochemical active sites, fast charge transfer, and efficient ion diffusion. More importantly, ultrahigh stability (110%, 5000 cycles) is achieved due to the in situ morphological self-optimization and oxygen vacancy creation. Similarly, BiOCl@C anode also displays remarkable capacity and ultralong cycling stability (94%, 15000 cycles) due to the conductive and protective carbon layer, abundant reactive centers, and ion transport channels. Moreover, the in situ phase transition of BiOCl to Bi2O2CO3 also contributes to the outstanding stability. Our work provides rational guidance for architecting high capacitive and ultrastable anodes for aqueous rechargeable alkaline battery.

Efficient and selective cleavage of C–C bonds in lignin remains a critical hurdle for its sustainable valorization into aromatic chemicals. Herein, we rationally construct a Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst by integrating phosphorus-doped graphitic carbon nitride (P-CN) with rod-like Bi 2 O 3 derived from a bismuth metal–organic framework (Bi-MOF). Phosphorus doping effectively modulates the band structure of g-C 3 N 4 , broadening visible-light absorption and enhancing its reduction capacity. Notably, Bi-MOF serves a dual function: it acts as the precursor for rod-like Bi 2 O 3 while simultaneously functioning as a pore-generating agent. Its decomposition during thermal treatment imparts substantial mesoporosity to the overlying g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets, dramatically increasing the specific surface area of the heterojunction. This mesoporous architecture and high surface area facilitate lignin diffusion and oxygen capture, thereby promoting the generation of carbon-centered radical intermediates and singlet oxygen—the key reactive species driving lignin C α –C β bond cleavage. Consequently, the optimized P-CN/Bi 2 O 3 catalyst achieves 97.5% conversion of the lignin model compound, 2-phenoxy-1-phenylethanol, and 94.3% benzaldehyde yield under 405 nm light irradiation, drastically outperforming pristine Bi 2 O 3 (31.4% conversion, 30.5% yield) and P-CN (55.8% conversion, 50.9% yield). This work highlights the untapped potential of MOF-derived materials in morphological engineering, offering new design principles for high-performance photocatalytic systems toward sustainable lignin valorization.

In this study, Ag/Bi 2 O 3 /Bi 5 O 7 I with s-scheme heterostructures were successfully synthesized in situ by nano-silver modification of CUA-17 and halogenated hydrolysis. The growth rate of Bi 2 O 3 crystals was effectively controlled by adjusting the doping amount of Ag, resulting in the formation of a facet-coupling heterojunctions . Through the investigation of the microstructure and compositional of catalysts, it has been confirmed that an intimate facet coupling between the Bi 2 O 3 (120) facet and the Bi 5 O 7 I (312) facet, which provides robust support for charge transfer. Under visible light irradiation, the AgBOI.3 heterojunction photocatalyst exhibited an outstanding degradation rate of 98.2% for Bisphenol A (BPA) with excellent stability. Further characterization using optical, electrochemical, impedance spectroscopy, and electron spin resonance techniques revealed significantly enhanced efficiency in photogenerated charge separation and transfer, and confirming the s-scheme structure of the photocatalyst. Density functional theory calculations was employed to elucidate the mechanism of BPA degradation and the degradation pathway of BPA was investigated by LC-MS. Finally, the toxicity of the degradation intermediates was evaluated using T.E.S.T software.

Catalytic hydrogenation reduction based on sodium borohydride (NaBH4) has gained attention as an appealing “one-stone-two-birds” approach for the simultaneous elimination of nitroaromatic pollutants and the production of high-value aminoaromatics under mild conditions. However, the slow kinetics of NaBH4 dissociation on the surface of catalysts restrict the catalytic hydrogenation reduction efficiency. Herein, we report an intelligent localized sulfidation strategy for an in situ implantation of Bi2S3 nanorods within quasi-Bi-MOF architectures (Bi2S3@quasi-Bi-MOF) by fine-tuning the pyrolysis temperature. In this novel Bi2S3@quasi-Bi-MOF, the porous quasi-Bi-MOF enables efficient adsorption of BH4– and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), while Bi2S3 facilitates the BH4– dissociation to form Hads* species adsorbed on the catalyst surface. Benefiting from the synergistic structure, Bi2S3@quasi-Bi-MOF exhibits excellent performance for the catalytic reduction of 4-NP, delivering a high turnover frequency (TOF) of 1.67 × 10–4 mmol mg–1 min–1 and an extremely high normalized rate constant (knor) of 435298 s–1 g–1. The kinetic analysis and electrochemical tests indicate that this catalytic hydrogenation reduction follows the Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanism. This study enriches the synthetic strategy of MOF-based derivatives and offers a new catalytic platform for hydrogenation reduction reactions.
