Herein, a series of the Pt-based bimetallic catalysts (PtM x /SBA-15) are gained by using ultrasonic incipient wetness impregnation method (M = Co, Cu, Ni or Zn). The experimental results show that the catalytic performance (including catalytic activity (turnover frequency-TOF), selectivity to crotyl alcohol) of PtCo x /SBA-15 for catalyzing crotonaldehyde selective hydrogenation is the best among PtM x /SBA-15. Additionally, the ratio of Pt/Co in the PtCo x /SBA-15 catalysts is changed to successfully synthesize PtCo/SBA-15, PtCo 2 /SBA-15, PtCo 5 /SBA-15. It demonstrates that the selectivity of the PtCo x /SBA-15 catalysts for crotonaldehyde selective hydrogenation to crotyl alcohol is significantly improved with the increase of the Co content. The PtCo 5 /SBA-15 catalyst provides 83.8% conversion of crotonaldehyde, 94.3% selectivity to crotyl alcohol and TOF of 910.5 h −1 under mild reaction conditions (3.0 MPa H 2 , 80 °C and 2.0 h). And PtCo 5 /SBA-15 has much better catalytic performance (higher catalytic activity and selectivity to crotyl alcohol) than PtCu 5 /SBA-15, PtNi 5 /SBA-15 and PtZn 5 /SBA-15. The reasons are as follows: (1) PtCo alloy forms, which is conducive to crotonaldehyde adsorption and activation; (2) there is an appropriate synergy effect between Pt and Co, greatly improving the capacity of the catalyst activating hydrogen under mild conditions; (3) the electron transfers from Co to Pt, resulting in the increase of Pt electron density and decrease of Co electron density, then the Co sites are advantageous to C O group adsorption and activation and Pt sites for H 2 adsorbing and activating; (4) with the increase of the Co proportion in PtCo x /SBA-15, the synergy effect between Pt and Co in PtCo alloy strengthens and thus increases the selectivity of C O group hydrogenation.

Cu-Ni oxide nanocomposite was synthesized via solvothermal method with nickel (II) nitrate and copper nitrate as Ni and Cu resource respectively. AuNPs/oxide nanocomposite was obtained by dispersing the oxide into the pre-synthesized Au colloid. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) shows that the synthesized oxides are nanoplate morphology. Interplanar distance from the high resolution TEM (HRTEM) image shows that the Ni and Cu in the oxide are multivalent state. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterization further proves that the Ni and Cu are multivalent state, and the Au is Au 0 form in the nanocomposte. EDS-mapping images confirm large numbers of AuNPs are uniformly absorbed onto the ultra-thin multivalent Cu-Ni oxide nanoplate. The electrochemical properties of multivalent oxide (m-v oxide) with or without AuNPs decoration are investigated in 0.1 M potassium chloride electrolyte with 2.0 mM Ferri/Ferro-Cyanide. When employed for the electrochemical catalysis in methanol oxidation reaction (MOR), the AuNPs/m-v oxide exhibits better electrochemistry performance than m-v oxide. The current density of AuNPs/m-v oxide (21.1 mA/cm 2 ) is 3.4 times bigger than that of m-v oxide/GCE (6.2 mA/cm 2 ). What’s more, it shows good electrochemical stability and lower slope of the Tafel plot (41.87 mV/dec).

2,5-Bis(furan-2-ylmethyl)cyclopentan-1-one (FCFDH), a C15 precursor for renewable jet fuel range cycloalkane and high-value electronic photolithography material, was selectively synthesized via a cascade aldol condensation/hydrogenation reaction of furfural and cyclopentanone under solvent-free conditions. Non-noble metal Cu and Ni modified MgAl-hydrotalcite (Cu-Ni/MgAl-HT) was found to be an effective and stable catalyst for this reaction. Under the optimized conditions (423 K, 4 MPa H₂, 10 h), 97.0% cyclopentanone conversion and 82.0% carbon yield of FCFDH were achieved. Based on the characterization results, the presence of Ni and Cu species increased the acidity of MgAl-HT and formed Ni-Cu alloy particles with an average size of 2.33 nm during the preparation of catalyst. Both effects facilitate the aldol condensation of furfural and cyclopentanone and the formation of FCFDH by the selective hydrogenation of C=C bond.

Herein, a Cr-doped Ni-Cu/(NiOH) 2 coating supported on nickel foam (Ni-Cu-Cr/NF) was fabricated via a facile one-step electrodeposition strategy and employed as an efficient electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline media. In 1 M NaOH, Ni–Cu–Cr/NF requires an overpotential of 30 mV to reach a current density of − 10 mA cm⁻ 2 and exhibits a Tafel slope of 55 mV dec⁻ 1 . These electrochemical results are associated with the combined effects of the multicomponent composition and an increased electrochemically active surface area (ECSA). The ECSA of Ni–Cu–Cr/NF is approximately 23.6 times that of Ni–Cu/NF. In addition, the catalyst maintains stable operation for 60 h during continuous electrolysis. This work presents a simple preparation method for the novel Ni-Cu-Cr/NF catalyst and systematically investigates the impact of Cr doping on enhancing catalytic performance, providing an effective strategy for the development of nickel-based alloy electrocatalysts. MCo 2 O 4 (M = Co, Cu, Ni or Zn) spinel catalysts have been prepared using a chemical co-precipitation method and applied in toluene combustion. The physicochemical properties of the MCo 2 O 4 catalysts was discussed to explore the impact of substitution on the tetrahedral A-site ions. The results of the activity evaluation show that the catalytic performances of Co 3 O 4 , CuCo 2 O 4 and NiCo 2 O 4 with urchin-like morphology are far superior than ZnCo 2 O 4 nanoparticles. The CuCo 2 O 4 catalyst exhibited the most superior performance for toluene combustion, and the toluene conversion rate reached 90% at 230 °C. When compared to the other catalysts, the optimal activity of CuCo 2 O 4 was attributed to the presence of more reactive oxygen species, a higher concentration of Co 3+ ions on catalyst surface and better reducibility at relative lower temperature. Moreover, the catalytic activity of the CuCo 2 O 4 catalyst did not decrease significantly in the long-term test, demonstrating its excellent stability.

Efficient conversion of CO2 to value-added fuels or chemicals using electricity from renewable sources is an appealing approach to realize carbon neutrality. Under this background, it is crucial to design efficient and low-cost catalysts for CO2 electroreduction. Herein, we fabricated an electrocatalyst with the structure of Cu–Ni alloy nanoparticles grown on nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (CuxNi/NCNT, x = 2.4, 1, and 0.36) for electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) via a hydrothermal method followed by pyrolysis. The optimized CuNi/NCNT demonstrates a favorable CO2RR performance with a CO Faradaic efficiency (FECO) of 94.8% and a current density of 26.6 mA cm–2 at −0.9 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (vs RHE) in the H-cell, far superior to those of single metal counterparts. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations unravel that the Cu–Ni alloys possess much lower free energy changes for the formation of the key COOH* intermediate than those of the Cu metal, thereby facilitating CO2 reduction into CO. Additionally, the CO2RR performance of CuNi/NCNT was further evaluated in the gas diffusion electrode (GDE) involved in the flow cell to examine the practical application of the prepared catalyst, which can deliver a current density of 124.6 mA cm–2 with a FECO of 92.8% at −1.1 V vs RHE. This work enriches electrocatalysts for highly efficient CO2 electroreduction to CO.

In this study, magnetic Cu and Ni bimetallic particles embedded carbon sheets, namely as C@Cu–Ni, was derived via calcining a mixture of Cu-MOFs and Ni-MOFs (mass ratio = 4:6) under N 2 protection and served as a catalyst for the degradation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) by peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The results showed that more than 98.5% of 2,4,6-TCP (10 mg L −1 ) was rapidly decomposed at initial pH = 5, PMS = 1 mM and catalyst dosage = 0.1 g L −1 within 30 min, accompanied by 42.47% removal of total organic carbon (TOC). This fully confirmed that C@Cu–Ni possessed excellent catalytic performance for PMS activation . The radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) investigation testified that the reactive oxygen species (ROS) included SO 4 •− , • OH, O 2 •− radicals and singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ), which were responsible for the rapid degradation of 2,4,6-TCP. Among them, O 2 •− and 1 O 2 played a decisive role. Cyclic voltammograms (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) revealed that C@Cu–Ni material possessed superior electrical conductivity and electron transfer , improving its catalytic activity . What is more, C@Cu–Ni displayed excellent stability and could be consecutively used for five times without any decline of catalytic performance. The main intermediates of the 2,4,6-TCP degradation were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) and possible pathways of 2,4,6-TCP degradation were further proposed. The extraordinary stability and superior catalytic activity of C@Cu–Ni coupled with its easy separation from wastewater due to magnetism suggest that the newly synthesized material may offer a promising alternative approach to efficiently degrade organic pollutants by PMS.

In order to improve the heavy metal removal ability of traditional single washing agents and explore the removal mechanism of heavy metals. Then, the washing reagents that mixed by low-molecular weight organic acids (citric acid, oxalic acid, and tartaric acid) and artificial chelating compound ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium (EDTA) were selected. Furthermore, the effect of soil washing parameters, the variation of leaching toxicity, mobility, stability and speciation of heavy metals were also considered. The results of soil washing experiments showed that mixing an equal volume of 0.05 M EDTA and 0.2 M organic acids (citric acid, oxalic acid, and tartaric acid) could remove more than about 80% heavy metals from soil under the optimal conditions. In addition, the soil leaching toxicity was decreased and the stability of remaining heavy metals was increased, indicating that EDTA-organic acid washing reagents could effectively reduce the ecological risk of contaminated soil. EDTA had a stronger chelating ability with heavy metals than the organic acids, and the organic acids could not only chelate heavy metals but also decrease the pH of the mixture for promoting the desorption of heavy metals. Thus, mixing EDTA and organic acids was advisable method to improve soil washing technology.

Traditional chemical precipitation generates a large volume of sludge required by further hazardous waste disposal. For reducing this drawback, four oligo-ethyleneamine dithiocarbamates (OEDTC), including ethylenediamine-dithiocarbamate (E 1 -DTC), diethylenetriamine-dithiocarbamate (E 2 -DTC), triethylenetetramine-dithiocarbamate (E 3 -DTC) and tetraethylenepentamine-dithiocarbamate (E 4 -DTC) were synthesized to remove Cu, Ni and Zn directly from acidic wastewater. Based on S dose, which was an essential element for metal removal, the treatment effectiveness order of the four OEDTC for Cu and Ni was E 1 -DTC > E 2 -DTC > E 4 -DTC > E 3 -DTC. The theoretical molar ratios of S toward Cu, Ni and Zn for the completed metal removal from single component were 1.5:1, 2:1, 2.2:1 for E 1 -DTC; 2:1, 2.6:1, 2.9:1 for E 2 -DTC; 2:2, 3:1, 3.9:1 for E 3 -DTC; and 2:1, 2.7:1, 2.8 for E 4 -DTC, respectively. The four OEDTC had marked preference for Cu over Ni and Zn from multiple components of simulated wastewater. They showed high removal efficiency for the complex-formed Ni and Zn from actual electroplating wastewater, yielding the effluent residual 0.003–0.008 and 0.021–0.046 mg/L, respectively. When the four OEDTC were precipitated with the three metals, FT-IR suggested the coordination of metals with S and SEM indicated densely packed particle formation. The yielded OEDTC-metals sludge enriched with heavy metals exhibited potential to be recycled.

Many attentions have been attracted to prepare superhydrophobic coatings on the metal surfaces for their prominent properties, especially the self-cleaning and anti-corrosion properties. In this work, a facile electrodeposition method was applied to fabricate hierarchical Cu-Ni coating on the 316 L stainless steel , and the followed myristic acid modification was used to lower the surface energy. The water droplet would remain spherical on this coating, and measured water contact angle and sliding angle were 161.27° and 7.8°, respectively. The contaminants on the coating surface could be easily carried away by the closed water droplets. In addition, the coating could effectively hinder the deposition of salt solution. Besides, the coating could endure long-term acid solution immersion and natural placement. Moreover, it was verified that this superhydrophobic Cu-Ni coating formed a robust barrier to block the transmission of chlorine ions , thus corrosion damage to steel surface could be effectively relieved. This superhydrophobic Cu-Ni coating provides a novel strategy and promising applications for preventing various metal surfaces from being contaminated and corroded.

Alloyed Cu−Ni encapsulated in carbon was prepared by loading Ni and Cu onto biochar (BC) through an initial wetness impregnation method under mild conditions. The bimetallic catalysts were exploited to perform selective hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF). 2,5-Dimethylfurfural (DMF), a promising liquid fuel/fuel additive, could be obtained from HMF with the highest yield of 93.5% under the optimized conditions. During HMF HDO, two key intermediates, 5-methylfurfural (MFF) and 2,5-dihydroxymethylfuran (DHMF), dominating two distinct conversion pathways were systematically investigated by Arrhenius kinetics analysis. In addition, the turnover frequencies (TOFs) of HDO reaction over Cu−Ni/BC corresponding with Cu amount were thoroughly discussed, finding that the electron transfer from Cu to Ni in the alloy structure was beneficial to the HDO reaction and the conversion pathways can be regulated by reaction temperature variation. Importantly, the synergy of HDO of HMF by alloyed Cu−Ni metal and Lewis acid sites from oxide NiOx were hence clarified by systematic catalyst characterizations. The Cu−Ni/BC catalyst is stable for at least five consecutive runs to obtain the stabilized 81.9% of DMF since the third run.

Three bimetallic Cu–Ni nanoparticle-supported catalysts were synthesized by co-immobilization followed by H2reduction. A chromium(III) terephthalate metal organic framework (MIL-101), titanium dioxide (TiO2), and carbon (C) with different properties (acidity and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area) were selected as supports for studying the effect of the support nature on the catalytic activity and selectivity in the oxidation of benzyl alcohol. The physicochemical properties of the Cu–Ni-supported catalysts were characterized by XRD, NH3-TPD, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, TEM, EDS, XPS, and ICP-OES. Bimetallic Cu–Ni nanoparticles were highly dispersed on the support. The catalytic activities of CuNi/MIL-101, CuNi/TiO2, and CuNi/C were tested in the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde in the presence of molecular oxygen under mild reaction conditions. The highest benzaldehyde yields were achieved with CuNi/TiO2, CuNi/MIL-101, and CuNi/C catalysts at 100 °C within 4 h under 5, 3, and 3 bar of O2, respectively. The bimetallic Cu–Ni-supported catalysts possessed two types of catalytic active sites: acid sites and bimetallic Cu–Ni nanoparticles. The CuNi/MIL-101 catalyst possessed a high number of acid sites and exhibited high yield during selective benzyl alcohol oxidation to benzaldehyde. Importantly, the catalysts exhibited a high functional group (electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups) tolerance. Cu–Ni-supported catalysts with an Cu:Ni mole ratio of 1:1 exhibited the highest yield of 47% for the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde. Reusability and leaching experiment results exhibited that CuNi/MIL-101 showed better stability than CuNi/TiO2and CuNi/C catalysts due to the large porous cavities of MIL-101 support; these cavities can be used to trap bimetallic Cu–Ni nanoparticles and inhibit nanoparticle leaching. Keywords:Cu–Ni nanoparticles;MIL-101;TiO2;carbon;benzyl alcohol oxidation
