Carbon-coated Cu-TiO 2 nanocomposite (Cu-TiO 2 @C) was constructed using one-step method of thermal reduction. Their photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production from methanol aqueous solution was investigated. Under UV–vis light irradiation, the hydrogen yield of the 10 mg optimal Cu-TiO 2 @C reached 269.1 μmol h −1 , which was very close to that of Pt@TiO 2 (290.8 μmol h −1 ). The Cu-TiO 2 @C also displayed much higher photocatalytic stability in comparison with Cu-TiO 2 without coated carbon layer. The nano-Cu as photocatalytic active site improve the efficiency of photoinduced carrier separation. The carbon layer with the ability to transfer photogenerated electrons faster and to adsorb hydroxyl radicals more easily, leading to a very significant increase the reaction rate. In addition, the carbon layer can also provide a chemical protection to the Cu nanoparticles and increase the stability of the photocatalysts. The Cu-TiO 2 @C photocatalyst with the low cost, enhanced photostability and photocatalytic activity is expected to be an excellent nanocomposite t in reforming of biomass or bio-derivatives field.

In this study, hierarchical ternary nanocomposites, i.e., Cu–TiO2-mesoporous silica microspheres (Cu–TiO2-MSM), were synthesized as ternary photocatalyst system to improve the visible light photocatalytic degradation of the environmental pollutant model
dye methylene blue (MB). The innovation of this method is in situ depositing TiO2 and Cu2O nanoparticles sequentially onto the surface of mesoporous silica microspheres to form highly active heterostructure. The improved activity for the degradation of MB is attributed
to: (1) the high adsorption capacity of the porous and interconnected-channel-structure MSM to MB; (2) the valence band electrons of TiO2 released from the conduction band generating abundant highly active free radicals, which directly reacted with adsorbed MB. The photocatalytic
degradation efficiency to MB was found to be 98% in 5 min, and almost 100% in 20 min. This study paves a way for the development of a ternary-doped catalyst for visible light photocatalytic degradation and may exhibit widely application in industry.

This study synthesized photocatalysts Cu/TiO 2 with various Cu loadings via a simple impregnation method and systematically characterized their structural, morphological, and optical properties. The photocatalytic hydrogen production performance was assessed under both laboratory xenon lamp irradiation and outdoor solar irradiation. The results show that the 3 wt%Cu/TiO 2 catalyst exhibits a reduced band gap of 3.11 eV (compared with 3.34 eV for pure TiO 2 ) and the lowest photogenerated electron-hole recombination rate, thus delivering the optimal catalytic performance. Under xenon lamp irradiation (light intensity of 450 mW cm −2 ) without external temperature control, the Cu/TiO 2 achieved a hydrogen production rate of 23.84 mmol g −1 h −1 . And the 3 wt%Cu/TiO 2 retained 87.13% of the hydrogen production rate after four consecutive 20 h cycles, indicating outstanding stability. However, when the light intensity was reduced to 350 mW cm −2 and the reaction temperature was maintained at 20 °C, the hydrogen production rate of 3 wt%Cu/TiO 2 decreased to 1.01 mmol g −1 h −1 , yet it remained 109 times higher than that of TiO 2 (0.01 mmol g −1 h −1 ). It is evident that increasing the light intensity can significantly enhance the hydrogen production rate of 3 wt%Cu/TiO 2 , whereas decreasing the temperature leads to a sharp decline in the hydrogen production rate. Furthermore, under outdoor solar irradiation (76.9 mW cm −2 ), the 3 wt%Cu/TiO 2 achieved a hydrogen production rate of 1.60 mmol g −1 h −1 . Under concentrated solar irradiation (202 mW cm −2 ), the rate further increased to 5.00 mmol g −1 h −1 .

Herein, a facile in situ sulfation strategy was employed for modifying Cu/TiO2 catalysts using CuSO4 as the precursor to enhance the performance of dichloromethane (DCM) catalytic combustion. The experimental results revealed that the modified samples exhibited superior DCM conversion and COx yield compared to the pristine Cu/TiO2 catalyst. Among these, the 1CuSO4/TiO2 sample showed the best activity with near 90% conversion during 50 h of reaction at 275 °C. Characterization results showed that the in situ sulfation modification could considerably improve the catalyst acidity, benefiting the dissociative adsorption of DCM with C–Cl rupture. Notably, the surface sulfate groups provided abundant Brønsted acidic sites that release surface Cl species in the form of HCl at relatively low temperatures, preventing the surface Cu species from chloride poisoning. With excess CuSO4 addition, the intermediates derived from DCM dechlorination could not be decomposed in time due to the decreased reducibility, leading to their deactivation due to coke deposition. The superior performance of 1CuSO4/TiO2 is attributed to the balance achieved between acidity and redox capacity for DCM catalytic decomposition. Moreover, it was found that CuSO4/TiO2 could partially replace noble-metal Ru/TiO2 catalysts and achieve comparable performances. The findings of this study will aid the development of CVOCs catalytic combustion catalysts with good activity and stability.

Due to the outbreaks of infectious diseases caused by different pathogenic bacteria and development of antibiotic resistance, researchers are actively searching for new antibacterial agents. Synergistic antibacterial effects provide a new way to prepare antibacterial systems to fight resistant bacteria. In this study, novel copper (Cu)/titanium dioxide (TiO2)/chitosan (CS) (CTC) three-component nanoparticles were facilely prepared via photocatalytic reduction on the basis of the synergistic antibacterial principle. The structure, antibacterial activity and antibacterial mechanism of CTC were investigated systematically. The results showed that this hybrid material exhibits excellent antibacterial ability against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus due to the synergistic antibacterial effect of the Cu, TiO2 and CS components in the nanoparticles. The minimal inhibition concentrations (MIC) of CTC against E. coli and S. aureus are only 5.22 μg mL−1 and 2.61 μg mL−1, respectively, much lower than the two-component systems. Thus, the encouraging results presented in this study demonstrate great potential applications of CTC as an alternative candidate for an antibacterial agent with high antibacterial activity.

Incorporation of nanoparticles is becoming a new strategy for improving antibacterial activity . In this paper, Copper (Cu)/titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) (CTD) nanocomposite was easily prepared by photocatalytic reduction, and its structure as well as antibacterial activity in the absence of light was investigated in detail. The results show that the CTD nanocomposite exhibits good antibacterial activity even in the absence of light. The minimal inhibition concentration against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus is 21.4 μg/mL and 14.3 μg/mL, respectively, which are much lower than that of pure silver, Cu and TiO 2 nanoparticles . In addition, the enhanced antibacterial effect of the CTD nanocomposite may be explained by synergistic antibacterial effect.

Photocatalytic CO2reduction into CH4is a promising route for solar fuel production, but its efficiency is still limited by poor charge separation, insufficient CO2activation, and sluggish multi-electron transfer kinetics. Herein, Cu-modified TiO2(Cu/TiO2) was prepared by calcining a Cu-modified defective MIL-125(Ti) precursor, denoted as Cu-MIL-125, through a temperature-controlled calcination strategy. The effects of calcination temperature on the structural evolution, surface chemical states, interfacial charge transport, and CO2photoreduction performance were examined. These results indicated that the Cu/TiO2was successfully prepared, while the crystallinity, porous structure, and interfacial electronic properties of Cu/TiO2were strongly dependent on the calcination temperature. Among the obtained samples, the Cu/TiO2sample obtained by calcining Cu-MIL-125 at 450 °C (450 Cu/TiO2) exhibited the highest CH4formation rate, reaching 15.90 μmol g−1h−1, corresponding to an approximately 9.8-fold enhancement over TiO2calcined from defective MIL-125(Ti) at 450 °C, together with a high CH4selectivity of 93.05%. Control experiments and13CO2isotope-labeling tests confirmed that the detected carbon-containing products were generated from CO2under photocatalytic conditions. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy measurements further revealed the formation of carbonate, bicarbonate and hydrogenated carbon-containing intermediates during the reaction. This work offers a practical route for constructing metal–organic framework-derived Cu/TiO2photocatalysts for selective CH4production from CO2.

A series of Cu-based TiO2-supported catalysts were synthesized via facile ammonia evaporation for the selective hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate (DMO) to ethylene glycol (EG). A 100% conversion of DMO, 99% selectivity for EG, and super stability were achieved over the 20% Cu/P25 TiO2 catalyst. The effect of the crystal phase of the titania support and the interaction between Cu and P25 were investigated. The active copper species located at the interface between the anatase and rutile phases play important roles in the selective hydrogenation. The excellent catalytic performance was mainly attributed to better copper dispersion and an appropriate ratio of Cu0/Cu+, which stems from the intimate interaction between Cu and the P25 support.

Ammonia synthesis via photocatalytic nitrogen fixation is regarded as a green and sustainable alternative to the conventional Haber-Bosch process. Nevertheless, its practical application is greatly hindered by the chemically inert N N triple bonds and slow reaction kinetics. In this work, a Cu-doped TiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 composite with a well-defined type-II heterojunction was synthesized through a facile wet-chemical method integrating low-temperature crystallization and in-situ molecular assembly. Characterizations confirm that Cu-TiO 2 nanoparticles are evenly immobilized on g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets, which effectively suppresses nanoparticle aggregation. On the one hand, Cu doping tunes the band structure of TiO 2 and introduces abundant oxygen vacancies, greatly promoting the adsorption and activation of N 2 molecules. On the other hand, the formed type-II heterojunction establishes an internal electric field, which broadens light response and accelerates the separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of Cu doping, oxygen vacancies and type-II heterojunction, the optimal Cu-TiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 (CuTCN-2) achieves an outstanding NH 3 evolution rate of 91.14 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 with a quantum yield of 1.75% at 420 nm under simulated solar illumination. The activity is 7.6-, 3.4- and 34.1-fold higher than that of bare TiO 2 , single Cu-TiO 2 and pristine g-C 3 N 4 , respectively. This work reveals that the co-regulation of heteroatom doping, defect engineering and heterojunction construction can remarkably boost photocatalytic kinetics. It also provides a feasible design principle for high-performance photocatalysts toward solar-driven nitrogen fixation.

While semiconductor-based photocatalysis presents a promising avenue for CO 2 reduction, the application of conventional TiO 2 is restricted by its limited light absorption, short photogenerated charge carrier lifetime, and poor CO 2 adsorption capability. To overcome these constraints, we constructed multifunctional Ag/Cu-TiO 2 /graphitic-phase polyacrylonitrile (g-PAN) composites. In this system, g-PAN functions as a robust support for Ag/Cu nanoparticle-loaded TiO 2 fibers synthesized via electrospinning and heat treatment. UV–Vis NIR DRS analysis reveals synergistic light harvesting where the localized surface plasmon resonance of Ag/Cu nanoparticles extends absorption into the near-infrared and g-PAN doubles the intensity by trapping photons within nanocavities. Beyond these optical benefits, g-PAN enhances CO 2 adsorption and accelerates charge transfer. Consequently, the Ag/Cu-TiO 2 /g-PAN composite achieves a CO evolution rate of 11.82 mmol/g/h under simulated solar irradiation, representing a twice increase compared to the Ag/Cu-TiO 2 counterpart. As evidenced by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and instantaneous photocurrent response, g-PAN acts as an electronic bridge that significantly reduces the resistance to photogenerated charge migration. This study provides novel insights into designing highly efficient composite photocatalysts for sustainable CO 2 conversion, contributing to the advancement of cleaner production and green technologies.

Pd–Cu bimetallic catalysts were successfully synthesized for the dehydrogenation of Bisphenol Z (BPZ) by an impregnation-reduction method. The obtained catalyst was studied by XRD, HRTEM, XPS, BET, and NH3-TPD techniques and effectively applied in the highly selective cleavage dehydrogenation of BPZ to give PPP > 99% yield at 270 °C and atmospheric pressure in the solvent-free condition. It was demonstrated that the “synergistic effect” of the bimetallic catalysts could effectively promote the cleavage dehydrogenation reaction. Pd species served as the primary active sites for the adsorption and dissociation of H* and the activation of C–H bonds, while the introduced Cu species accelerated the breaking process of the C–H bond. This catalyst demonstrated remarkable stability and could be reused over ten cycles without obvious decrease both in yield and selectivity. The likely reaction pathway was outlined to elucidate the cleavage dehydrogenation mechanism according to experimental results.

It is of prime importance to harness the transfer and flow of photogenerated electrons and holes to elongate the lifetimes of charge carriers and enhance the activity of semiconductor photocatalyst , which can be achieved by hybridizing the photocatalyst with appropriate cocatalysts with right electronic properties and placement. Herein, MXenes, a young family of two-dimensional transition metal carbides , are exploited as a hole mediator to enhance the photocatalytic activity of TiO 2 . We grow TiO 2 sheets exposing (001) surfaces on layered Ti 3 C 2 T x , and then photodeposited Cu 2 O nanodots on TiO 2 . We experimentally prove that the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene from the wet HF etching method behaves as a low work function material ( ϕ = 3.4 eV). Thanks to this unique electronic property, the photogenerated electrons on TiO 2 hybridized with Ti 3 C 2 T x accumulate and tunnel to Cu 2 O to reduce it to elemental Cu as a reduction cocatalyst. The resulting Cu/TiO 2 @Ti 3 C 2 T x photocatalyst efficiently split water to produce hydrogen at 860 μmol g −1 h −1 . The results presented here demonstrate the promise of MXene materials in photocatalytic solar energy utilization. The insight into the electronic property of MXene sheds light on the new approach to the rational design of high-efficiency photocatalysts composed of MXenes.
