Developing efficient and economical photocatalysts was considered as an efficient and economical strategy for pollution remediation. Herein, magnetically separable ZnFe 2 O 4 /CuWO 4 composites (ZW) had been developed via combining ZnFe 2 O 4 with CuWO 4 . The composite with a mass ratio of 40% CuWO 4 (ZW-40) performed best, and the tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) removal by adsorption-photocatalysis of ZW-40 reached 86.5%. The photocatalytic degradation rated constant of it was 9.44 × 10 −3 min −1 , which was approximately 5.04 and 3.28 times compared to the ZnFe 2 O 4 and CuWO 4 samples, respectively. Pseudo-second-order kinetic models could describe well the TC adsorption process , in which chemisorption was the major driving factor, with the maximum adsorption at 23.56 mg g −1 . The improved photo-catalytic capability owed to the formation of Z-scheme heterojunctions with ZnFe 2 O 4 and CuWO 4 , which improved the intensity of visible light absorption and enhanced the separation electron-hole pairs as well as the redox capability of the composite. ZW-40 was high stability as its removal ability of TC in different water conditions slightly dropped about 15% after 5 cycles. ZW-40 could effectively remove TC in different water matrix, its removal ability for 40 mg/L was as follows: super-pure water> municipal wastewater> swine farm wastewater. Hence, the complexation of ZnFe 2 O 4 with CuWO 4 provides a valuable strategy to improve the photocatalytic potential for ZnFe 2 O 4 -based catalysts as well as providing a promising pathway for water clarification.

The spatiotemporal sequential treatment strategy of promoting rapid separation of charge carriers, amplifying oxidative stress, increasing the low content of intracellular Cu, enhancing cuproptosis, and cascading activation of immunotherapy is considered one of the most effective techniques for improving the comprehensive therapy of tumors. Herein, copper tungstate (CuWO₄, CWO) nanoparticles with ultrasmall bandgap (1.71 eV) is developed as both piezoelectric-catalysis agents and copper nanocarriers for synergistic sono-enhanced cuproptosis. Owing to the unique bandgap microstructure, exposure to ultrasound (US) significantly increase the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the release of Cu 2+ from CWO. Additionally, ≈60% of glutathione (GSH) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) are consumed in situ, leading to oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and cuproptosis in cancer cells. This cascading approach induces substantial mitochondrial dysfunction and the release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), which promotes immunogenic cell death (ICD) and augments antitumor immunity. Both in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that this sono-enhanced cuproptosis-based therapy could effectively suppress tumor growth. Overall, this study investigates a novel Structure-Function therapeutic approach that combines piezoelectric catalysis, ferroptosis, cuproptosis, and cascade activation of immune regulation, opening up new possibilities for addressing the challenges associated with conventional cuproptosis therapy.

Polyethylene terephthalate is a major source of plastic pollution, posing significant environmental risks and requiring effective degradation methods. In the present work, the CuWO 4-x /Cobalt Phthalocyanine (CoPc) step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction was used as a photothermal-assisted photocatalyst to facilitate the degradation of polyethylene terephthalate via peroxymonosulfate activation in a cooperative photocatalytic system. The CuWO 4-x /CoPc sample exhibited optimal polyethylene terephthalate removal efficiency under the illumination conditions, reaching 83 % after the addition of 3 mM peroxymonosulfate. The influence of peroxymonosulfate dosage, aquatic environment, pH, and coexisting anions on polyethylene terephthalate degradation was thoroughly investigated. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and radical quenching experiment findings implied that the CuWO 4-x /CoPc composite followed the S-scheme heterojunction charge transfer process. Owing to the formation of the S-scheme heterojunction, the electron and hole transport and separation efficiency in the CuWO 4-x /CoPc photocatalyst was significantly enhanced. Infrared thermography images further revealed that the temperature rise of the solution during the catalytic process resulted from the photothermal property of CoPc, thus enhancing the degradation efficiency of polyethylene terephthalate plastics. Additionally, CuWO 4-x /CoPc demonstrated remarkable reusability and consistency in cycling experiments. This research presents an effective strategy by developing a photothermal-assisted S-scheme heterojunction system for the degradation of waste microplastics in aqueous environments.

The recombination of photogenerated carriers and sluggish surface oxidation kinetics severely inhibited the development of copper tungstate (CuWO 4 ) photoanode photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation. Herein, the Zn 1-x Mg x O-modified CuWO 4 photoanode ameliorated the vital matter of easy recombination of electron-hole pairs, where the transformation of the heterojunction type (type I to type II) between Zn 1-x Mg x O and CuWO 4 played a crucial role in the extraction of carriers. Further, the effective charge separation was obtained utilizing the local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of plasma metal (Ag), which facilitated the PEC water oxidation reaction. Besides, the surface states trapped/stored holes and reduced charge transfer resistance, thus facilitating charge transfer. The overlap of the fillable surface states with filled redox coupled states ensured the enhancement of the water oxidation kinetics, which further promoted the charge transfer. As a result, the optimized CuWO 4 /Zn 0.7 Mg 0.3 O/Ag photoanode showed significant advancement in photocurrent density (1.71 mA/cm 2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE), electrochemical impedance and stability. This work emphasized the interfacial structure modulation of two strategies that potentially provide more ideas and options for the design of other efficient photoanodes.

A novel Z -scheme CuWO 4 /Cu/Cu 2 O ternary heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully synthesized via a solvothermal approach, featuring the low-cost metallic copper (Cu) as an efficient electron mediator. This unique structure was designed to enhance Cu 2 O visible light capture capability and accelerate photogenerated charge separation, thereby efficiently degrading the recalcitrant antibiotic Rifampicin (RFP). Comprehensive characterizations (XRD, XPS, SEM, EDS) confirmed the successful construction of the heterojunction, where CuWO 4 and Cu particles are integrated onto the surface of the Cu 2 O. Compared to individual components and binary composites, the optimized CuWO 4 /Cu/Cu 2 O sample demonstrated significantly superior photocatalytic activity, achieving an impressive 88.0% RFP degradation rate within 80 min under visible light. The enhanced performance is primarily ascribed to the successful formation of a Z -scheme charge transfer pathway, where the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of the metallic Cu mediator promotes carrier migration, thereby improving both carrier separation efficiency and redox capacity. Kinetic analysis confirmed a degradation rate constant ( k ) of 0.02743 min −1 , approximately 2.8 times higher than that of pure Cu 2 O. Furthermore, the composite exhibited excellent stability, maintaining a degradation rate above 80% after five recycling runs and demonstrating robust performance across a broad pH range (3.0–7.0). Based on active species trapping and band structure analysis, a Z -scheme mechanism was proposed, highlighting O 2 − as the dominant active species. This study provides a facile and low-cost strategy for constructing highly efficient LSPR-enhanced Z -scheme photocatalysts for environmental remediation.

Background Metal foam has been demonstrated numerous advantages in fine chemistry when used as catalyst support. In this research, a novel strategy for the fabrication of copper tungstate (CuWO 4 ) foam as heterogeneous catalysis to conduct dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) oxidation reaction in a scale-up microreactor was proposed. Methods A series of three-dimensional skeleton CuWO 4 foams were prepared by a continuous sintering approach. The obtained CuWO 4 catalysis inherited the porous structure from the copper foam and had a high loading density of CuWO 4 crystal particles. Afterwards, DMSO oxidation was employed as a probe reaction to explore the catalytic performance of CuWO 4 foam. Significant findings CuWO 4 foam showed prefect catalytic activity in a scale-up microreactor. The average crystallite size of CuWO 4 were increased from 52.8 to 57.7 nm with extension of sintering time. Under the optimum condition (residence time was 40 min, CuWO 4 catalyst was CuWO 4 F-5 and reaction temperature was 80 o C), a high dimethyl sulfone yield of 65.4% was obtained. The yield of MSM reached nearly 65.3% in the run time of 1 h and showed a value of 50.4% even in the run time of 4 h. Higher reaction contact surface and larger crystal particles of CuWO 4 foam are conducive to enhancing the catalytic performance of CuWO 4 foam. This research indicates the potential opportunity to apply CuWO 4 foam in a scale-up microreactor.

S-scheme heterojunctions can offer an effective strategy for spatially separating photogenerated charge carriers, thereby sig F nificantly enhancing photocatalytic performance. In this study, cadmium sulfide (CdS)/copper tungstate (C F uWO 4 ) (CdS/CW) S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts with adjustable components were fabricated by decorating CdS nanorods with CuWO 4 nanoparticles. The optimal hydrogen evolution rate (2725.91 μmol g –1 h –1 ) of CdS/CW-10% with excellent cycling stability under visible light is 10.1-fold higher than pure CdS. Density functional theory calculations and photoelectrochemical analyses confirmed that the S-scheme charge-transfer mechanism from CdS to CuWO 4 is responsible for the enhanced photocatalytic performance by promoting charge separation. Additionally, the photothermal effect of CuWO 4 increased the local temperature of the photocatalyst, further accelerating the reaction kinetics. This study highlights a dual-enhancement approach based on interfacial charge modulation by constructing an S-scheme heterojunction and photothermal activation, providing valuable insights into the design of high-efficiency S-scheme photocatalysts for solar-driven hydrogen production.

The key to obtain effective photocatalysts is to increase the efficiency of light energy conversion, and thus the design and implementation of full-spectrum photocatalysts is a potential approach to solve this problem especially by extending the absorption range to near-infrared (NIR) light. Herein, the improved full-spectrum responsive CuWO 4 /BiOBr:Yb 3+ ,Er 3+ (CW/BYE) direct Z-scheme heterojunction was prepared. The CW/BYE with CW mass ratio of 5% had the best degradation performance, and the removal rate of tetracycline reached 93.9% in 60 min and 69.4% in 12 h under visible (Vis) and NIR light, respectively, which were 5.2 and 3.3 times of BYE. According to the outcome of experimental, the reasonable mechanism of improved photoactivity was put forward on the basis of (i) the up-conversion (UC) effect of Er 3+ ion to convert NIR photon to ultraviolet or visible light, which can be used by CW and BYE, (ii) the photothermal effect of CW to absorb the NIR light, increasing the local temperature of photocatalyst particle to accelerate the photoreaction, and (iii) the formed direct Z-scheme heterojunction between BYE and CW to boost the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Additionally, the excellent photostability of the photocatalyst was verified by cycle degradation experiments. This work opens up a promising technique for designing and synthesizing full-spectrum photocatalysts by utilizing synergetic effects of UC, photothermal effect and direct Z-scheme heterojunction.
