Lithium dendrite growth is one of the most challenging problems affecting the safety performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). It causes low Coulombic efficiency as well as safety hazards for LIBs. Understanding the evolution process of Li-dendrite growth at the nanoscale is critical for solving this problem. Herein, an in situ electrochemical atomic force microscopy (EC-AFM) investigation of the initial Li deposition in ethylene carbonate (EC)-based and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC)-based electrolytes on graphite anodes is reported. These results show that the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formed from the FEC-based electrolyte can suppress Li-dendrite growth. The FEC-based electrolyte induces formation of LiF-rich SEI films, which are harder and denser than those formed in an EC-based electrolyte. Due to its better mechanical properties and larger resistance, the SEI layer formed from the FEC-based electrolyte is sufficient to prevent reduction of Li + ions and deposition of Li + ions on the anode surface. These results demonstrate that EC-AFM is a powerful in situ technique for the study of lithium-dendrite growth.

A rigid-flexible interlocked interpenetrating network structure is constructed. • PHMS-AGE/EC blend membranes are fabricated in isopropanol. • The permeability, selectivity, and toughness of EC-based membranes are simultaneously improved. • PHMS-AGE/EC-7:3 shows 588% higher permeability, 14% higher selectivity, and 1046% higher toughness vs. EC. To address the challenge of synergistically enhancing permeability and selectivity in gas separation membranes, a novel green membrane fabrication strategy is proposed. The strategy relies on the synergistic bridging effect of covalent bonds and intermolecular hydrogen bonds between poly(methylhydrosiloxane) (PHMS) and ethyl cellulose (EC). Flexible PHMS is incorporated into the rigid EC network to construct a rigid-flexible interlocked interpenetrating network structure, which reveals a dual-effect regulation mechanism for both separation performance and mechanical properties. The structure forms a synergistic mass-transfer channel that combines the rigid confined sieving property of EC and the flexible high-flux permeation property of PHMS. The results show that the CO 2 permeability, CO 2 /N 2 selectivity, and mechanical ductility of the membrane are simultaneously enhanced. The CO 2 permeability of the PHMS-AGE-1/EC-7:3 membrane reaches 724.3 Barrer, with a CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 25.5 and an elongation at break of 51.47%. Compared with the EC membrane, the values are increased by 588.14%, 14.40%, and 1046.33%, respectively. Through the design of a rigid-flexible interlocked molecular structure, this work demonstrates excellent separation and mechanical properties, providing innovative insights and theoretical support for low-cost biomass-derived separation membranes applied to industrial flue gas CO 2 capture. To address the challenge of synergistically enhancing permeability and selectivity in polymeric gas separation membranes, a novel green membrane fabrication strategy is proposed. An interlocked network is formed by bridging flexible PHMS with rigid EC via AGE. The CO 2 permeability of the PHMS-AGE/EC-7:3 membrane reaches 724.3 Barrer, with a CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 25.5 and an elongation at break of 51.47%. Compared with the EC membrane, these values are increased by 588.14%, 14.40%, and 1046.33%, respectively. Different from most EC modification routes requiring costly additives and harmful organic solvents, this preparation method uses fully commercialized raw materials and low-pollution isopropanol, featuring simple operating steps and low comprehensive production cost. This work offers a practical path for developing biomass-based CO 2 separation membranes suitable for industrial application. To more fully understand the mechanism by which persimmon tannin (PT) inhibited phospholipase A 2 (PLA 2 ) and the structural requirements of PT for the inhibition, the interactions between PLA 2 and seven characteristic structural elements of PT including epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), myricetin, epicatechin-3-gallate (ECG), epicatechin-3-gallate-(4β → 8, 2β → O → 7)-epicatechin-3-gallate (A-type ECG dimer), epigallocatechin-3-gallate-(4β → 8, 2β → O → 7)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (A-type EGCG dimer), epicatechin-(4β → 8, 2β → O → 7)-epicatechin (A-type EC dimer) and epicatechin-(4β → 8)-epicatechin (B-type EC dimer) were studied by enzymatic and spectroscopic methods. Molecular docking was also used to explore the possible residues involved in the interactions. The results revealed that A-type EGCG dimer and A-type ECG dimer showed higher inhibitory effects on the catalytic activity of PLA 2 than monomers and B-type dimer. They induced greater conformational changes in PLA 2 than other structural elements. In addition, molecular docking studies revealed that expect for lysine residues, other residues such as Trp18, Try27, Gly29, His47 and Tyr63 were involved in the interactions. We propose that A-type EGCG and ECG dimer units may be structural requirements for the interaction between PT and PLA 2 . Our data provide an additional structural basis for anti-PLA 2 activity of persimmon tannin.

A portable three-electrode spray sheet EC-MS system for in-situ reaction monitoring • Decouples spray high voltage from precise electrochemical control via floating ground • Seamlessly couples with HRMS to resolve complex electrochemical reaction networks • Integration with miniMS enables operando monitoring of synthesis in fume hoods • Offers guidance for the complex multi-parameter optimization of green EC engineering Electrochemistry (EC) is a core technology for elucidating charge transfer mechanisms and enabling catalytic innovation and material synthesis. However, characterizing reaction intermediates during EC process remains challenging owing to their high diversity, short lifetimes, and low concentrations. Recently, mass spectrometry (MS) has become a key tool for such studies due to its precise qualitative and quantitative capabilities. Although various in-situ MS techniques based on electrospray ionization (ESI) have been developed to detect short-lived intermediates, existing in-situ EC-MS devices are usually hindered by the voltage incompatibility between EC control and ESI high voltage, along with complex designs and cumbersome operations. Herein, we developed a portable EC-MS system featuring a three-electrode spray sheet. This sheet is fabricated by screen-printing electrodes onto a polyethylene terephthalate substrate with a sharp 90° tip, which is hydrophilically modified with 0.01% gelatin to function as both an electrochemical reactor and a spray emitter. Driven by a homemade floating-potential controller, the system enables precise three-electrode electrochemical control and direct ionization monitoring of intermediates. Characterization via scanning electron microscopy and dopamine experiments confirmed its stability and precise controllability, while DMA oxidation tests demonstrated its capability for analysis of microsecond level intermediates. The modular design allowed coupling with a high-resolution mass spectrometer to elucidate the oxidation pathway of sulfadiazine, clarifying the relevant metabolic pathways. Furthermore, integration with a miniature mass spectrometer enabled rapid on-site monitoring of sulfadiazine-catechol synthesis in a fume hood, demonstrating its convenience and scalability. This work provides a rapid and precise tool for monitoring liquid-phase electrochemical reactions. Download: Download high-res image (146KB) Download: Download full-size image

Oily dyeing wastewater poses significant environmental hazards and therefore requires effective treatment. Although electrospun fiber membranes (EFMs) have been employed for oily dyeing wastewater treatment, conventional approaches typically involve a two-step process. This study presents a novel single-step modification method for EFMs, enabling efficient treatment of oily dyeing wastewater through a simplified single-membrane separation process. Experimental results demonstrated that spontaneous self-assembly occurs between ethyl cellulose (EC) colloids and hydrophilic SiO₂ nanoparticles in mixed solutions. Furthermore, these self-assembled colloids can undergo liquid-phase-induced self-organization on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) electrospun fiber membranes (EFMs), leading to a "welding" effect that firmly immobilizes both EC and hydrophilic SiO₂ nanoparticles onto the PAN fibers. The self-assembly process effectively prevented the agglomeration of SiO₂ nanoparticles, resulting in their uniform and stable fixation on the PAN fibers. Compared to the pristine PAN EFM, the PAN-EC-SiO₂ EFM exhibited significantly enhanced tensile strength, pH tolerance, surface roughness, hydrophilicity, hydration capacity, and methylene blue adsorption performance. Consequently, this modified membrane demonstrated dual functionality, effectively separating both oil-water emulsions and oily dyeing wastewater. During oily dyeing wastewater treatment, the PAN-EC-SiO₂ EFM achieved a methylene blue rejection rate of 92 %, an oil separation efficiency of 97.2 %, and a high flux of 153 L/m²·h.

Ni 3 (HITP) 2 (HITP: 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaiminotriphenylene) is a very typical 2D electrically conductive metal–organic framework (EC-MOF) material with great promising as active materials in electronic devices. Gas–liquid interface self-assembly is a common method of processing free-standing thin films for this EC-MOF. Owing to the different contact environment during growth process, Ni 3 (HITP) 2 film prepared by gas–liquid interface method has different morphology for up-side surface exposed to air and down-side surface infiltrated in solution. However, the asymmetrical morphology of Ni 3 (HITP) 2 film and its influence on sensing performance have never been implemented. In this work, gas–liquid interface self-assembly method is used to obtain an asymmetrical Ni 3 (HITP) 2 nanofilm in surface morphology with a flat up-side surface and an island-like down-side surface. The surface morphology of as-prepared film has a remarkable influence on the glucose sensing property. The island-like structure for down-side surface film exhibits more excellent glucose sensing performance because of its abundant crystal defect which play an important role in enhancing glucose catalytic oxidation capacity. The potential use of n-type small organic molecules in electrodes has attracted significant attention in organic electronics owing to the easy, high-yield purification processes of organic compounds. However, only few studies have reported high-efficiency supercapacitors based on n-type organic materials. Nevertheless, most n-type organic compounds possess low capacitance and poor cycling efficiency. Therefore, it is crucial to develop n-type organic compounds that demonstrate good electrochemical properties for use in electrodes. Herein, both the (E)-N-(4-(diphenylamino)benzylidene)-6,6,10,10-tetramethyl-4-phenyl-6,7,8,9,10,10a-hexahydro-5H-6a,9-methanobenzo[H]quinazolin-2-amine (TPAB) and (E)-N-(4-(diphenylamino)benzylidene)-4-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)-6,6,10,10-tetramethyl-6,7,8,9,10,10a-hexahydro-5H-6a,9-methanobenzo [h]quinazolin-2-amine (TPANB) compounds containing electrochromic (EC) and aggregation-induced emission (AIE) groups were synthesized from triphenylamine (TPA) and quinazoline derivatives, and their structure and properties were investigated. These novel electrode materials demonstrate high EC and fluorescence performance just as a typical n-type semiconductor. The coloring time of a TPANB film is 4.00 s, whereas the bleaching time is 3.00 s. Compared with TPANB, TPAB electrode material demonstrate a high area-specific capacitance (2.38 mF cm −2 at 0.05 mA cm −2 ), outstanding the charge and discharge rate performance (93% with the current density of 0.05–0.25 mA cm −2 ), and excellent cycling performance (78.51%) after 300 cycles. Above all, the multifunctional materials hold good potential for intelligent display energy storage. Graphical Abstract

Aggregation and sharp reactivity decrease are the key problems of using nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) as a potential reaction medium for a permeable reactive barrier (PRB). In this study, nZVI particles encapsulated within an acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) matrix (nZVI/(ABS + EC)) was fabricated, which for the first time successfully simultaneously solved the above problems via accurately regulating the distribution of nZVI particles in the ABS matrix and regulating the contact between nZVI particles and the contaminated aqueous environment. In addition, the size and number of the pores throughout the ABS matrix were first regulated by ethyl cellulose (EC) for the purpose of controlling the contact between nZVI particles and the nitrate contaminant, affording apparent rate constants (kobs) for denitrification performance in the range of 0.0423 to 0.0820 min−1. The remediation of simulated nitrate-contaminated solution by nZVI/(ABS + EC) was suitably described by the first-order kinetics model, withkobsranging from 0.0423 to 0.2036 min−1, and functional relationship models ofkobswith the dosages of EC (dEC) and nZVI (dFe) during encapsulation were developed for the quantitative regulation of a sustainable denitrification performance. Results revealed that encapsulation prevents the aggregation of nZVI, rendering a sustainable denitrification performance of the material; the denitrification performance was demonstrated to be affected and quantitatively regulated by the encapsulation and application conditions. Using nZVI/(ABS + EC) as the reaction medium for PRB, the pore blocking of PRB can be avoided, and the sustainable remediation performance can be quantitatively regulated and predicted.

Esophageal carcinoma (EC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world. ECRG4 has been recently discovered to be downregulated in EC. However, the mechanism leading to reduced expression of ECRG4 in esophageal cancer remains obscure. Here, we found that ECRG4 expression was significantly downregulated in EC tissues and cell lines. ECRG4 overexpression led to a significant decrease in proliferation in vitro and in vivo . Mechanistically, ECRG4 can activate IRF3/IFN-γ pathway. IFN-γ can promote the expression of miR-29b. MiR-29b reduces the expression of DNMT1. DNMT1 may affect the expression of ECRG4 by affecting the methylation of ECRG4 promoter. These results reveal ECRG4/IRF3/IFN-γ/miR-29b/DNMT1 positive feedback loop in esophageal carcinoma cells, which may become a potential therapeutic target for esophageal carcinoma.

Local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is a novel catalytic technique that has emerged in recent years, especially in the catalysis of aromatic amine compounds. However, the response process and mechanism are still unclear in current study. In the current field of study, the response process and mechanism are still unclear. In this work, the gas–liquid-solid three-phase interface (GLSTI) was innovatively utilized in this study to validate the reaction mechanism by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. P-Aminothiophenol (PATP) and P-Phenylenediamine (PDA) underwent a surface plasmon-catalyzed reaction by using a silver nano-dendrites substrate with strong SERS activity. The GLSTI significantly facilitates the occurrence of surface plasmon catalytic reactions, which can supply enough oxygen by providing three-phase points. In situ SERS and EC-SERS technologies were combined in this study for the explorations. Therefore, this work is dedicated to deepening the exploration and expanding into new directions in plasmon-induced catalytic reactions.

A new strategy was proposed that simultaneously improves the pervaporation (PV) performance and solvent resistance via the construction of a movable crosslinked structure in ethyl cellulose/polyvinylidene fluoride (EC/PVDF) composite membrane for the purpose of benzene/cyclohexane separation. Based on the molecular design of the macrocyclic compound cyclodextrin, polyrotaxane crosslinking agent (PR=) with a special sliding/rotating property and cavity structure was successfully synthesized. Furthermore, for convenient comparative study, cyclodextrin crosslinking agent (CD=) with cavity structure bereft of a sliding/rotating property and pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA) without sliding/rotating property and cavity structure were prepared. The composite membranes were fabricated with crosslinking modified EC as active layer, together with PVDF support layer. The molecular structure and microstructure were confirmed. The pervaporation and swelling performance of the fabricated membranes for benzene/cyclohexane were investigated. PR= modified membranes showed good solvent resistance and exhibited a flux of 4332 g·m −2 ·h −1 and separation factor of 6.26, which was higher than CD= and PETA modified membranes. The results were attributed to the facilitated transport behavior, which was markedly related with the sliding/rotating property and cavity structure of polyrotaxane (PR). The related research provides interesting suggestions for PV membrane design for the separation of organic mixtures.

A highly sensitive and selective molecularly imprinted polymer-based electrochemical-surface plasmon resonance (MIP-based EC-SPR) sensor was developed for the determination of modafinil in saliva samples. The optimal MIPpy film was synthesized using a modafinil concentration of 1 mM and a constant potential electropolymerization method. The fabricated sensor exhibited a wide linear range (0.1 μM to 10 μM), low detection limits (LOD: 50 nM, LOQ: 170 nM), and high selectivity towards modafinil, with selectivity coefficients of 8.5, 6.2, and 12.7 for adrafinil, armodafinil, and caffeine, respectively. The sensor also demonstrated excellent reproducibility (RSD: 4.2 %) and long-term stability (92 % response after one month). Furthermore, the applicability of the sensor in real samples was validated using spiked saliva samples, with recovery values ranging from 94.7 % to 103.5 %. These results highlight the potential of the MIP-based EC-SPR sensor as a powerful tool for the rapid, sensitive, and selective detection of modafinil in complex biological matrices.
