Tin oxide (SnO 2 ) based on chemical bath deposition method (CBD-SnO 2 ) is considered as an ideal electron transporting layer for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), however, the research on precise regulation toward CBD-SnO 2 layer is lacking. Here, the study introduces a multifunctional molecule, potassium 2-(N-morpholino)ethanesulfonate (MES-K), on the surface of CBD-SnO 2 layer to synergistically modify the buried interface between the SnO 2 and perovskite. It is found that MES-K introduction can passivate interfacial defects, favor the perovskite crystal growth, and improve carrier transportation. 25.14% efficiency of small-size perovskite solar cells has been achieved with 24.45% efficiency of 1 cm 2 perovskite devices, with negligible hysteresis. Besides, unencapsulated devices based on CBD-SnO 2 can maintain > 95% of its initial efficiency after 2000 h storage at ambient environment, and > 90% after 1000 h LED illumination.

Large area, dense, and uniform SnO 2 films with fewer defects are essential for high-quality perovskite films and efficient n-i-p typed perovskite modules. In this respect, based on the self-synthesized SnO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) 4,4′-bipyridine is introduced as a multifunctional interface modifier at the SnO 2 /perovskite interface. Both experimental and DFT calculation results reveal that, the incorporation of 4,4′-bipyridine can simultaneously passivate interfacial defects from the SnO 2 surface and perovskite bottom surface. Moreover, it can also facilitate charge carrier transportation. Based on blade-coating technique for large area perovskite modules, this strategy significantly enhances the interfacial quality of large-area SnO 2 films and crystal quality of large-area perovskite layers. As a result, the champion small-area cell (0.076 cm 2 ) presents the efficiency of 25.75% while the minimodule (22.9 cm 2 aperture area) exhibits the efficiency of 23.50% with a certified efficiency of 22.70%. Both small-area devices and modules exhibited excellent operation and thermal stabilities, demonstrating that this interface treatment is a promising approach for large-scale production of high-efficiency perovskite modules.

The performance of formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) perovskite solar cells is limited by insufficient bulk crystallinity and defect-rich grain boundaries, which drive nonradiative recombination and poor operational stability. Herein, we establish a comparative thiocyanate additive model to reveal how cation volatility governs additive functionality in FAPbI3 perovskites. Two representative additives are investigated: fully volatile NH4SCN and PEASCN, which contain a retainable, interface-active PEA+ component. In both systems, SCN− transiently coordinates with Pb2+, restructures precursor chemistry, and promotes phase-pure crystallization with enlarged grains and improved film quality. Their cationic components, however, follow distinct pathways during annealing. NH4+ is completely removed and therefore mainly enhances bulk crystallization, whereas PEA+ remains preferentially at grain boundaries and surfaces, where it introduces additional interfacial passivation and hydrophobic protection. As a result, NH4SCN- and PEASCN-based devices achieve champion efficiencies of 23.3 and 22.9%, respectively, together with markedly improved stability. This work identifies cation volatility as a key descriptor of thiocyanate additive function and provides a volatility-informed design principle for high-efficiency and durable perovskite solar cells.

Hybrid metal halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are emerging as highly competitive next-generation photovoltaics due to their excellent performance and low production cost. However, the construction of high-efficiency PSCs typically requires an inert nitrogen environment within a glove box, inadvertently increasing manufacturing costs and hindering the transition from lab-scale to industrial-scale production. In this work, an air ambient fabrication of pure α-phase FAPbI 3 PSCs with high-efficiency and stability, utilizing a dual-functional engineering strategy assisted by 3-Guanidinopropionicacid (3-GuA) is reported. 3-GuA assists in managing excess PbI 2 and promotes the formation of high-quality FAPbI 3 films via intermolecular exchange. Simultaneously, the existence of 3-GuA minimizes the defects and stabilizes the resulting perovskite films. As a result, the ambient-air fabricated PSCs achieve a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 24.2% with negligible hysteresis and excellent stability. Additionally, these devices demonstrate superior reproducibility, offering valuable guidance for future advancements in this technology.

Strong quantum confinement can fundamentally reshape excitonic processes and radiative recombination in perovskite quantum dots (QDs), yet accessing this regime remains challenging in organic-inorganic hybrid FAPbI 3 nanocrystals because of their low crystallization barrier and rapid growth. Here, we report a coordination-mediated cold quenching strategy for synthesizing strongly quantum-confined FAPbI 3 QDs with tunable emission from 696 to 759 nm. The key step involves the injection of a precooled ethyl methacrylate (EMA, –70 °C), which rapidly lowers the reaction temperature while simultaneously retarding precursor conversion and suppressing QD regrowth. Such a strategy enables small QDs with an average size of 6.4 nm and a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield. Representative light-emitting diodes based on these QDs deliver electroluminescence at 715 nm with a peak external quantum efficiency of 16.3%. This work provides a viable strategy for accessing ultrasmall hybrid perovskite QDs and advances the rational control of quantum confinement in soft ionic semiconductors.

Formamidinium lead triiodide (FAPbI 3 ) perovskite materials exhibit tremendous potential for next-generation solar cell applications. However, the fabrication of FAPbI 3 thin films usually requires a quenching treatment with a narrow processing window to achieve the desired morphology. Meanwhile, the use of methylammonium (MA)-containing additives assists the crystallization of FAPbI 3 but raises concerns on the device stability due to the residual MA cation. Here, we present a highly reproducible approach for quenching-free deposition of FAPbI 3 films without using any MA-containing additives. The bifunctional surfactant of benzalkonium chloride is found simultaneously contributing to a more compact multicrystalline films with reduced pinhole density, as well as a dramatically improved moisture stability of the quenching-free FAPbI 3 film. The corresponding FAPbI 3 perovskite solar cell exhibits a decent tolerance to minor pinholes and achieved a power conversion efficiency up to 23.5% under 1 sun illumination, and also presents improved storage and operational stability.

Conventional ligand exchange strategies for FAPbI3 quantum dots (QDs) rely on polar solvents, which compromise colloidal stability and device performance. Herein, a ligand-mediated defect passivation strategy is proposed, in which 4-(trifluoromethyl)aniline (4-ATFB) is incorporated into the toluene-based solvent system during the purification of FAPbI3 QDs. The amino group of 4-ATFB coordinates with undercoordinated Pb2+ sites to passivate defects and optimize FA+ charge distribution, while outward-oriented trifluoromethyl group forms a barrier against moisture. The dual functionality stabilizes the lattice and suppresses defects during the purification process. Moreover, the carrier dynamics are significantly improved with 4-ATFB treatment, attributed to reduced defect density and suppressed trap-mediated losses, leading to enhanced radiative recombination. Consequently, the fabricated FAPbI3 QDs solar cells with 4-ATFB treatment exhibit a champion power conversion efficiency of 16.33%, representing a significant improvement over the control device (14.99%), together with exceptional operational stability that retains over 80% of the initial efficiency after 25 days of storage in an ambient atmosphere without encapsulation.

Perovskite photodetectors have attracted considerable attention due to their excellent optoelectronic properties and low-cost solution processability. However, the practical application of formamidinium lead iodide (CH(NH 2 ) 2 PbI 3 , FAPbI 3 ) based devices is severely hindered by high defect densities, phase instability, and non-radiative recombination losses. Herein, we demonstrate a simple and effective strategy to simultaneously address these challenges by incorporating polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a multifunctional additive into the FAPbI 3 precursor solution. Systematic optimization reveals that an optimal PEG concentration (2 mg/mL) significantly improves film crystallinity, enlarges grain size and reduces trap density, as evidenced by XRD, SEM, and SCLC analyses. The synergistic interaction mechanism was investigated by combining XPS and FTIR spectroscopy. Consequently, the optimized PEG-2 photodetector exhibits a ∼30% reduction in dark current, a ∼750% enhancement in photocurrent, and a ∼13-fold increase in on/off ratio compared to the pristine device. Both responsivity and detectivity are substantially improved across the visible spectrum, achieving a responsivity of 3.8 mA/W and a specific detectivity of 9.76 × 10 10 Jones. This work establishes PEG as a low-cost, multifunctional additive for defect passivation and morphology control in FAPbI 3 perovskites, offering a simple strategy toward high-performance, stable photodetectors and molecular guidance for rational polymer design.

The feature of metastable α -phase for FAPbI 3 at room temperature results in a relatively high growth temperature required for a pure α -phase FAPbI 3 single crystal. Here, we demonstrate a general strategy to selectively control the α - and δ -phase formation of FAPbI 3 single crystals over a wide temperature range (from 70 to 110 ℃) via inverse temperature crystallization. Phase selection is governed by solution saturation and seed type, while the introduction of formic acid can further lower the crystallization temperature without affecting this seed-mediated control. For improved stability during characterization, most structural and optoelectronic measurements were performed on FA 0.93 Cs 0.07 PbI 3 single crystals, while control experiments on undoped FAPbI 3 showed the same overall phase-selection trend. The resulting α -phase crystals exhibit good crystallinity (XRC FWHM = 0.041°) and long average carrier lifetimes (∼10 μs), demonstrating that the proposed strategy enables stable phase-selective growth and low-temperature single-crystal growth in the present system.

Formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI 3 ) perovskite is a leading candidate for high-efficiency solar cells, but its application is hindered by the kinetic instability of its α-phase crystallization. Here, a highly effective strategy for directing the ordered crystallization of α-FAPbI 3 in the n-i-p architecture is developed by incorporating a self-assembled molecule (SAM) into the anti-solvent, unlike conventional phosphate-based SAMs requiring polar protic solvents, the -SCN SAM are processed from non-polar, aprotic solvents compatible with perovskite surfaces. An in-situ formed, self-assembled layer acts as a dynamic template, guiding the top-down crystallization process to yield highly ordered α-phase films. Through a series of in-situ measurements, it is rigorously demonstrated that this SAM treatment suppresses undesirable intermediate phases, accelerates the δ-to-α transition, and strategically slows crystal growth, promoting highly ordered films. This meticulously designed strategy culminates in high-quality perovskite films, enabling single-junction devices with a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 26.18% (certified at 25.67%) and mini-modules with a PCE of 21.70%. These results underscore the power of directed self-assembly in fabricating highly efficient and stable n-i-p perovskite solar cells.

The disordered crystal growth and undesired degradation of perovskite films limit the further improvement of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) performance and their commercialization. Herein, an in situ modulation strategy is proposed for preparing high-quality and stable perovskite film through adjustment of phase transformation kinetics. Benefiting from the in situ reaction between chloroformamidinium hydrochloride (ClFACl) and FA cations, the impurity intermediate phase in the perovskite film is inhibited and the α-FAPbI3 phase is induced to grow along a preferred (001) orientation. Furthermore, the introduction of ClFACl and in situ formation of guanidinium salts (FA-Gua) strengthen the intermolecular interactions in the interior of crystals, which restrains the α-phase degradation of the as-prepared perovskite films under humid and thermal treatments. With crystal orientation optimization and defects reduction, the PSCs with in situ formed FA-Gua yield a champion efficiency of 25.85% and demonstrate excellent phase stability under long-term thermal and humid ageing conditions. This in situ chemical modulation strategy expands the avenue toward optimization of crystallization orientation and α-phase stabilization, promoting the development of PSCs with enhanced performance and stability.

Regulating strain in perovskite films via utilizing the crystal structure relationship between solid-phase materials (SPMs) and perovskite is an effective method to achieve high-performance perovskite solar cells. It is crucial to investigate and manipulate the heterointerfaces between perovskites and SPMs since the mismatched crystal structure and energy band structure of SPMs will bring recombination sites to the heterointerfaces. In this work, CdS-modified PbS nanosheets (CPS) were prepared through cation exchange with (200)-preferred PbS nanosheets. The wide-band gap CdS charge-blocking layer of CPS nanosheets distributed at the grain boundaries effectively passivates the heterointerfaces in FAPbI3-CPS heterostructures (FAPI-CPS). Further, it potentially blocks carrier transportation and suppresses carrier recombination at grain boundaries and in FAPbI3-PbS nanosheet heterointerfaces. Attributed to the CdS layer, the FAPI-CPS devices achieve an enhanced power conversion efficiency. CPS nanosheets with an interplanar spacing slightly smaller than that of α-FAPbI3 could provide compressive strain to FAPbI3 at the FAPI-CPS heterointerfaces, leading to significantly improved device stability. The unencapsulated FAPI-CPS solar cells maintained 92% of their initial PCE after being stored at 20 ± 5 °C, 20 ± 5% RH for 2500 h.
