Synthesis of hierarchical Fe-incorporated ZSM-5 molecular sieves with an Fe-based metal-organic framework as a mesoporogen and iron source for catalytic pyrolysis of alkanes

Mengkun Luan,Xiangjie Lei,Yu Fan

To increase the yield of light olefins during the catalytic pyrolysis of alkanes, a novel hierarchical Fe-incorporated ZSM-5 molecular sieve (FeM-Z5) was synthesized using an Fe-based metal-organic framework (Fe-MOF) as a mesoporogen and iron source through the dry gel conversion (DGC) method. In contrast to the conventional method of incorporating Fe species into ZSM-5 via impregnation, the DGC method incorporates Fe species into the framework of ZSM-5, decreasing the amount of Brønsted (B) acid sites and thereby inhibiting the side reactions of hydrogen transfer during the catalytic pyrolysis of alkanes. Compared with the FeN-Z5 catalyst prepared by the DGC method with Fe(NO 3 ) 3 as an iron source, FeM-Z5 had a larger amount of strong B acid sites and more mesopores with a size range of 10–40 nm originating from the decomposition of Fe-MOF; these aspects improved n-pentane pyrolysis and ethylene and propylene diffusion. As a result, the optimal FeM-Z5 catalyst exhibited the highest yield of ethylene and propylene (33.4 wt%) and the lowest deactivation rate (0.07 %/h) among the prepared catalysts during the catalytic pyrolysis of n-pentane.

Dual-Responsive Triple-Synergistic Fe-MOF for Tumor Theranostics

Zhiwei Chen,Yaoji Sun,Jiawei Wang,Xi Zhou,Xiangjian Kong,Jiashen Meng,Xingcai Zhang

The intelligent responsive drug delivery system has great application potential in cancer precision therapy. Although many antitumor methods have been developed based on drug delivery systems, most of them yet suffer from poor antitumor efficiency. In this project, a near-infrared and pH dual-response multimodal collaborative platform for diagnosis and treatment (PCN-DOX@PDA) was constructed. We used PCN-600 as a vehicle loaded with antineoplastic drugs and polydopamine (PDA). Under 633 nm laser irradiation, the ligand tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) in PCN-600 can generate singlet oxygen (1O2) and kill tumor cells. PDA is used as photothermal agent of PTT. PCN-DOX@PDA achieves the intelligent release of antitumor drugs by responding to the weak acidity of the tumor microenvironment and thermal stimulation generated by NIR irradiation. In addition, since the central ion of PCN is Fe3+, PCN-DOX@PDA realizes the diagnosis and treatment of tumors through magnetic resonance imaging-mediated tumor chemotherapy and photothermal and photodynamic synergistic therapy. This triple synergistic strategy showed excellent biocompatibility and antitumor ability in in vivo experiments on a 4T1 tumor-bearing mouse model, indicating that PCN-DOX@PDA has a good development prospect in the field of precision cancer therapy and diversified biomedical applications.

Photocatalytic GO/M88A “interceptor plate” assembled nanofibrous membrane with photo-Fenton self-cleaning performance for oil/water emulsion separation

Liyun Zhang,Yi He,Pingya Luo,Lan Ma,Shuangshuang Li,Yiling Nie,Fei Zhong,Yuqi Wang,Li Chen

Developing the high-efficient and robust antifouling membranes for oily emulsions to achieve the purpose of prolonging the service life of the membrane shows great demand because of the restriction of hydration anti-fouling mechanism strategy to against pollution. Herein, a hydrophilic photo-Fenton-like catalyst – GO/Fe-MOF assembled stabilized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) nanofibrous membrane with underwater superoleophobicity, robust mechanical strength and photo-Fenton self-cleaning performance was firstly designed and fabricated via ultrasonic assistance, mussel-inspired fixation and low temperature hydrothermal synthesis methods. In this work, benefiting by the regulable amounts of GO nanosheets on the SPAN@GO/M88A membrane surface, the obtained membrane possessed sub-micrometer skin layer, which guarantees the balance of fast permeation flux (920–7083 ± 47 L m −2  h −1 ) and separation efficiency (>99.2%) for diesel/water emulsion with small emulsified oils. Moreover, introduced hydrophilic Metal-organic frame nanoparticles (MIL-88A (Fe)) into modified membrane endowed underwater anti-oil-fouling and photo-Fenton catalytic degradation performance for organic contaminants. Meanwhile, the charged GO/M88A heterostructure can assist to achieve demulsification for separation of surfactant-stabilized emulsions by strong electrostatic force. More importantly, attached and irremovable contaminants on the membrane can be quickly removed by photo-Fenton self-cleaning method, and achieved over 96% of recovery flux recovery ratio, which effectively prolonged the service life of the membrane. We believe the newly designed SPAN@GO/M88A membrane with hydration antifouling and photo-Fenton self-cleaning properties can stimulate more studies on revivable separation membranes for multifunctional applications.

Multifunctional bimetallic MOF with oxygen vacancy synthesized by microplasma for rapid total antioxidant capacity assessment in agricultural products

Yi Xia,Juan He,Long Tang,Miao Hu,Jie Zhou,Yao-Yu Xiao,Zhi-Chao Jiang,Xue Jiang

The assessment of total antioxidant capacity (TAC) is crucial for evaluating overall antioxidant potential, predicting the risk of chronic diseases, guiding dietary and nutritional interventions, and studying the effectiveness of antioxidants. However, achieving rapid TAC assessment with high sensitivity and stability remains a challenge. In this study, Ce/Fe-MOF with abundant oxygen vacancies was synthesized using microplasma for TAC determination. The microplasma synthesis method was rapid (30 min) and cost-effective. The presence of oxygen vacancies and the collaboration between iron and cerium in Ce/Fe-MOF not only enhanced the catalyst's efficiency but also conferred multiple enzyme-like properties: peroxidase-like, oxidase-like, and superoxide dismutase mimetic activities. Consequently, a simple colorimetric assay was established for TAC determination in vegetables and fruits, featuring a short analysis time of 15 min, a good linear range of 5–60 μM, a low detection limit of 1.3 μM and a good recovery of 91 %-107 %. This method holds promise for rapid TAC assessment in agricultural products.

A series of ultrasensitive electrocatalysts Fe-MOF/MWCNTs for fentanyl determination

Zhidong Zhao,Yuan He,Xingrui Qi,Nian Li,Zijian He,Yufang Chen,Tao Jin

Electrochemical determination of synthetic opioids such as fentanyl is meaningful but still challenging no matter from a social or academic perspective. Herein, we report a series of novel electrocatalysts based on Fe-containing metal–organic frameworks and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Fe-MOF/MWCNTs). The obtained Fe-MOF/MWCNT electrode materials all show ultrasensitivity on fentanyl determination. In particular, MOF-235/MWCNTs even exhibit an ultra-low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.03 μM with a wide linear range from 0.1 to 50 μM. Besides, this series of Fe-MOF/MWCNTs also displays excellent repeatability, selectivity, and stability. Moreover, they show good performance in real sample detection and achieve good recovery of 95.47%–102.41% and 96.62%–103.15% in blood and urine samples, respectively. This high performance in fentanyl determination is mainly contributed by the Fenton-like process and the adsorption function of the Fe-MOF. Therefore, these novel Fe-MOF/MWCNTs are promising electrocatalysts for point-of-care device fabrication and also have potential applications in fentanyl rapid test technology.

Activating Peroxymonosulfate by a NovelFe-MOF-C/N Catalyst to Effectively Degrade Sulfamethoxazole: Catalyst Performance and Its Mechanism

Zhaowei Wu,Meiyi Hu,Pengfan Zhuo,Jie Wang,Shaoping Tong

A composite Fe-MOF-C/N was prepared with Fe-MOF and g-C3N4precursors, and its activation property of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in the degradation of Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) was studied. XRD, SEM, and TEM analyses showed that Fe-MOF-C/N was porous and mainly composed of phases of Fe3N, C0.08Fe1.92, and graphite. XPS indicated that Fe-MOF-C/N mainly had Fe, C, N, and O elements, among which Fe existed in the form of Fe2+and Fe3+. Fe-MOF-C/N was used to activate PMS to degrade SMX, and the result showed that Fe-MOF-C/N had excellent catalytic performance and 84.17% of SMX could be removed in 8 min. Free radical quenching experiments showed that1O2was the main active species in Fe-MOF-C/N/PMS. The stability experiment showed that Fe-MOF-C/N had good stability, and the degradation rate of SMX only decreased by 5.8% after five times of use.

Performance and Mechanism of Co and Mn Loaded on Fe-Metal-Organic Framework Catalysts with Different Morphologies for Simultaneous Degradation of Acetone and NO by Photothermal Coupling

Yuanzhen Li,Yinming Fan,Yanhong Wang,Yinian Zhu,Zongqiang Zhu,Shengpeng Mo,Xiaobin Zhou,Yanping Zhang

VOCs can be used instead of ammonia as a reducing agent to remove NO, achieving the effect of removing VOCs and NO simultaneously. Due to the high energy consumption and low photocatalytic efficiency required for conventional thermocatalytic purification, photothermal coupled catalytic purification can integrate the advantages of photocatalysis and thermocatalysis in order to achieve the effect of pollutants being treated efficiently with a low energy consumption. In this study, samples loaded with Co and Mn catalysts were prepared using the hydrothermal method on Fe-MOF with various morphologies. The catalytic performance of each catalyst was analyzed by studying the effects of their physicochemical properties through various characterizations, including XRD, SEM, BET, XPS, H2-TPR, TEM and O2-TPD. The characterization results demonstrated that the specific surface area, pore volume, high valence Co and Mn atoms, surface adsorbed oxygen and the abundance of oxygen lattice defects in the catalysts were the most critical factors affecting the performance of the catalysts. Based on the results of the performance tests, the catalysts prepared with an octahedral-shaped Fe-MOF loaded with Co and Mn showed a better performance than those loaded with Co and Mn on a rod-shaped Fe-MOF. The conversions of acetone and NO reached 50% and 64%, respectively, at 240 °C. The results showed that the catalysts were capable of removing acetone and NO at the same time. Compared with the pure Fe-MOF without Co and Mn, the loaded catalysts showed a significantly higher ability to remove acetone and NO simultaneously under the combination of various factors. The key reaction steps for the catalytic conversion of acetone and NO on the catalyst surface were investigated according to the Mars–van Krevelen (MvK) mechanism, and a possible mechanism was proposed. This study presents a new idea for the simultaneous removal of acetone and NOxby photothermal coupling.

Integrating molecular imprinting and Fe-based MOF peroxide-like nanozyme for highly sensitive and selective detection of diethylstilbestrol

Changchang Li,Yue Zhi,Minnan Zhu,Chengyu Yang,Yayang Tian,Tao Chen,Yuan Zhao,Jie Gao,Linfeng Chen

The development of simple, efficient and low-cost methods for rapid on-site monitoring have always been a challenging topic in the field of analysis. Here, we successfully constructed a selective, sensitive and rapid colorimetric sensor for the sensing of diethylstilbestrol (DES) by using molecular imprinting technology to construct specific recognition sites on the surface of Fe-based metal organic frameworks (Fe-MOF) peroxidase-like nanozyme. The surface of obtained sensor (Fe-MOF@MIP) had abundant channels and imprinted cavities that allowed the substrate to enter and responded with Fe-MOF core to drive the chromogenic reaction of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). When DES was present, it could specifically enter the cavities and obstruct the channels of substrate into the Fe-MOF core, thereby inhibiting the chromogenic reaction. The experimental results demonstrate that the sensor had excellent selectivity, anti-interference and catalytic stability. In the linear range of 0 – 1.67 μ M, the detection limit is as low as 8.43 nM, which is superior to peer sensors. To better adapt to in-situ analysis, we have further developed a rapid analysis method based on photo colorimetry, which performed well in real sample analysis and recovery test with the results consistent with the gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC–MS), demonstrating its great potential for rapid on-site monitoring.

Self-assembly of Fe-MOF on vermiculite nanosheets with enhanced catalytic activity

Haibin Yang,Junzhen Guo,Liang Chu,Zhi Huang,Zhaohui Liu,Liyan Wang,Zhaokun Wang,Mu Yang,Ge Wang

Utilizing natural, abundant, and eco-friendly materials to facilitate the industrial application of nano-sized MOF particles is of utmost importance, since these nanoparticles possess high activity but difficult to recovery. Herein, benefiting from the negatively charged vermiculite , dispersed nano-sized Fe-MOF particles were successfully in-situ grown on the surface of vermiculite nanosheets (VNs) via a simple solvothermal method. The construction of the composites improved the exposure of organic dye to active sites, resulting in a remarkable performance of Fe-MOF@VNs-4 towards photo-Fenton degradation of RhB , with a k value of 0.096 min −1 and an activity of 0.581 mmol g −1  h −1 , significantly higher than that of pure VNs and Fe-MOF, surpassing most reported MOF composite catalysts. The excellent adsorption ability of Fe-MOF@VNs, along with the presence of divalent iron in vermiculite, greatly enhanced catalytic performance. Mechanistic investigations revealed that VNs facilitate the separation of photoinduced carriers excited from Fe-MOF, indicating a synergy effect between Fe-MOF and VNs. Overall, this work provides a simple and effective strategy to design large-scale and commercially available catalysts for water treatment , and also offers a promising alternative for the industrial application of nano-sized MOF particles.

Fe-MOF Modified Bubble Coral-Like Carbon Nanofibers for Ultrathin Broadband Microwave Absorption

Weiwei Pei,Hongli Liu,Guanqi Xu,Junjie Zhang,Boshi Gao,Wenshuo Cao,Mingwei Li,Xianlin Xiao,Mingda Liu,Yuhao Liu,Xiaoxiao Huang

Driven by the rapid development of microelectronics and aerospace engineering, lightweight, ultrathin, broadband microwave absorption (MA) materials are urgently required for advanced electromagnetic protection and stealth technologies. Conventional ceramic-derived MA absorbers face inherent bottlenecks of incompatible impedance matching and insufficient attenuation efficiency, severely restricting their application in miniaturized aerospace and electronic systems. A novel bubble coral-like Fe-MOF modified carbonaceous nanofiber composite (BF@CNFs) is fabricated via electrospinning, thermal curing, and high-temperature carbonization, with its microstructure precisely tailored by optimizing polyacrylonitrile/phenolic resin ratio and carbonization heating rate. The optimized BF@CNF-2 delivers a minimum reflection loss of −36.2 dB at 1.3 mm thickness, with an effective absorption bandwidth nearly covering the entire Ku-band (12.0–18.0 GHz). This outstanding performance stems from the synergistic effect of conductive carbon nanofiber scaffolds and Fe-MOF-derived magnetic phases. The work provides a scalable, ceramic-compatible strategy for high-performance MA materials, addressing long-standing technical challenges, with promising prospects in aerospace stealth and electromagnetic shielding.

Fe-MOF derived Fe3O4/C-based hydrogel for efficient solar-driven photothermal evaporation

You Zhou,Lei Xu,Sheng-Jie Han,Cai-Hua Liu,Yi-Bin Li,Ming-Lai Fu,Baoling Yuan

Solar-driven interfacial photothermal evaporation (SIPE) has been considered as a green and sustainable technology for obtaining fresh water, and the exploring efficient photothermal materials is crucial. Nanocomposite derived from metal-organic framework exhibits high light absorption properties and excellent chemical stability, making it an ideal candidate in the SIPE. Herein, Fe 3 O 4 /C nanocomposite was obtained using MIL-101 (Fe) as a precursor, and Fe 3 O 4 /C-based porous hydrogel (Fe 3 O 4 /C-PH) was subsequently prepared through chemical crosslinking foaming polymerization. The obtained Fe 3 O 4 /C-PH exhibited an evaporation rate of 3.33 kg m −2  h −1 under one sun intensity. Fe 3 O 4 /C-PH demonstrated outstanding desalination and salting out resistance when treating real seawater. Moreover, it could remove over 99 % of dyes from wastewater. The photothermal mechanisms are molecular thermal vibration of C component and semiconductor relaxation of Fe 3 O 4 . Meanwhile, the hydrophilic and porous skeleton structure of the hydrogel ensure Fe 3 O 4 /C-PH to transport water rapidly and exhibit good light absorption properties. This research broadens the candidate of photothermal materials for applications in SIPE, and also provides new avenues for desalination and wastewater purification.

Synthesis of Uniformly Covered Fe-MOF@COF Heterostructures for Boosting Photo-Fenton Catalysis

Zhang Xue-Feng,Chang Tian-Long,Guo Na,Jia Guo-Liang,Li Xiao-Bing,Zhao Zhao-Ye,Wang Hui,Wang Jun-Chuan,Wu Xiang-Feng,Pan Cheng-Si,Liu Lei,Yang Lin-Lin

Fe-based MOFs (Fe-MOFs) are excellent photocatalysts and have synergy well with Fenton reagents relative to other MOFs. In this work, a series of uniformly covered NH 2 -Fe-MIL-88B@TpPa-1-COF composites were synthesized using an in-situ anchoring growth strategy, which used F127 as functional molecule to decorate NH 2 -Fe-MIL-88B nanoparticles to eliminate their surface electrostatic repulsion with Tp molecules during the subsequent coating procedure. Meanwhile, the -NH 2 groups in the skeleton of NH 2 -Fe-MIL-88B could also be used as anchors to covalently connect TpPa-1-COF shell and migration channels for effective charge transfer. This uniformly covered core–shell structure would endow these composites with much more contact area and imine bond linkage between the Fe-MOFs core and COFs shell. Compared with the random packing structure, the uniformly covered Fe-MOF@COF-3 composite possessed a higher proportion of Fe 2+ to Fe 3+ . As a result, the optimized Fe-MOF@COF-3 catalyst could achieve the highest photo-Fenton degradation efficiency of 93.9% for tetracycline hydrochloride (TC⋅HCl), which was much higher than 54.8% of pure NH 2 -Fe-MIL-88B. In addition, the uniform TpPa-1-COF shell could further effectively enhance the stability of NH 2 -Fe-MIL-88B by protecting Fe ions from leaching, and the toxicity of the water samples treated with our photo-Fenton degradation process declined obviously. All these merits will endow Fe-MOF@COF-3 photo-Fenton catalyst great potential application value as in the field of environmental governance.
