Transition-metal-atom anchored graphdiynes (TM@GDY, TM = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu) have already been synthesized and found applications in hydrogen evolution , nitrogen fixation and etc. By means of first-principle predictions and test experiments, we propose here that Fe@GDY and Co@GDY are efficient catalysts for the sustainable conversion of O 3 to O 2 . These two catalysts can spontaneously chemisorb O 3 with zero reaction barrier and have low O 3 conversion barriers (0.31 eV and 0.19 eV, respectively). The O 3 decomposition experiment in a continuous flow membrane reactor and electron paramagnetic resonance results verify that Fe@GDY and Co@GDY are efficient catalysts under humid conditions. Raman spectra prove the formation of the key Fe-O/Co-O and Fe O O and Co O O intermediates. The hydrophobic nature of graphdiyne and the strongest chemisorption of O 3 among tested ambient gases, make Fe@GDY and Co@GDY ideal catalysts under both dry and humid conditions. These findings would stimulate future explorations on metal anchored GDY-based catalysts for applications of toxic gas decomposition or fixation.

Metal oxides have excellent photocatalytic properties. In this work, LDHs are used as precursors to prepare metal oxides (Cu 0.04 Zn 0.47 Co 2.49 O 4 ). Synthesis of graphdiyne (GDY) by mechanochemical method using calcium carbide as raw material. It is complexed with Cu 0.04 Zn 0.47 Co 2.49 O 4 to explore the hydrogen evolution performance of the composite catalyst CZC (Cu 0.04 Zn 0.47 Co 2.49 O 4 )/G (GDY) in water splitting under visible light and its possible hydrogen evolution mechanism. The results show that the composite catalyst CZC/G-11 has good hydrogen evolution activity, and its photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity could reach up to 17.7 μmol h −1 at pH = 9. The four hydrogen evolution cycle stability tests show that CZC/G-11 maintains a relatively smooth level of hydrogen evolution. The photoelectrochemical and fluorescence test results show that the incorporation of GDY can effectively improve the charge separation efficiency of the composite catalyst CZC/G-11. Both CZC and GDY are n-type semiconductors, as shown by the Mott-Schottky test results. The catalysts are also tested by UPS and the energy band structure is analyzed, with conduction band values of −0.54 V and −0.58 V and valence band values of 1.41 V and 0.83 V for CZC and GDY, respectively. Combined with the electron transfer direction of each catalyst, the possible mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution between CZC and GDY is analyzed, and it is speculated that Z-scheme heterojunction is formed between CZC and GDY to promote the hydrogen evolution reaction.

The electron transfer rate in photocatalysts is one of the factors determining their hydrogen production activity. In this work, NH2-MIL-88B(Fe) (NFM) was synthesized using a one-step hydrothermal synthesis method and NFM/GDY-25 (NFMG-25) was successfully synthesized by loading graphdiyne (GDY) onto the surface of NFM. The hydrogen production performance and the mechanism of the prepared photocatalysts were systematically investigated using XRD, SEM, FT-IR, XPS, UV-Vis, PL and photoelectrochemical tests. The results showed that the hydrogen production of NFMG-25 reached 61.7 μmol in 5 hours. Photoelectrochemical and Mott–Schottky tests demonstrated that the composite catalyst exhibited high photogenerated carrier separation efficiency and single catalysts were n-type semiconductors. The conduction bands of NFM and GDY were −0.36 V and −0.56 V, respectively, while the valence bands were 1.90 V and 1.12 V. NFM acted as an electron acceptor and donor, which accelerated the transfer of the electrons, and enhanced the photocatalytic hydrogen production efficiency of the composite system. This study provides an effective method for using NFM in photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Graphdiyne (GDY) has realized significant achievements in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of its unique π-conjugated skeleton with sp- and sp2-hybridized carbon atoms. Enriching the accessible surface areas and diffusion pathways of Li ions can realize more storage sites and rapid transport dynamics. Herein, three-dimensional porous hydrogen-substituted GDY (HsGDY) is developed for high-performance Li-ion storage. HsGDY, fabricated via a versatile interface-assisted synthesis strategy, exhibits a large specific surface area (667.9 m2 g–1), a hierarchical porous structure, and an expanded interlayer space, which accelerate Li-ion accessibility and lithiation/delithiation. Owing to this high π-conjugated, conductive, and porous framework, HsGDY exhibits a large reversible capacity (930 mA h g–1 after 100 cycles at 1 A g–1), superior cycle (720 mA h g–1 after 300 cycles at 1 A g–1), and rate (490 mA h g−1 at 5 A g–1) performances. Density functional theory calculations of the low diffusion barrier in the lamination and vertical directions further reveal the fast Li-ion transport kinetics of HsGDY. Additionally, a LiCoO2–HsGDY full cell is constructed, which exhibits a good practical charge/discharge capacity of 128 mA h g–1 and stable cycling behavior. This study highlights the advanced design of next-generation LIBs to sustainably develop the new energy industry.

Graphdiyne (GDY) has emerged as a promising high-capacity anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), benefiting from its abundant active sites, extended π-conjugated structure, and hierarchical pore architecture. However, its intrinsic semiconductor-like conductivity severely restricts charge transport kinetics, resulting in inadequate rate performance and poor cycling stability under high current densities. To address this limitation, we rationally designed a graphdiyne@carbon nanotube (GDY@CNT) heterostructure electrode through a mild and sustainable approach. The integrated architecture not only establishes multidimensional pathways for efficient electron conduction and accelerated interfacial charge transfer, but also introduces robust C–O–C covalent linkages that effectively mitigate structural strain during prolonged lithiation/delithiation cycles. As a result, the GDY@CNT electrode achieves a high reversible capacity of 1284.6 mA h g⁻¹ at 0.1 A g⁻¹ and retains 439.4 mA h g⁻¹ after 600 cycles at 1 A g⁻¹, exhibiting exceptional rate capability and long-term cyclability. Kinetic investigations and theoretical calculations further demonstrate a lower ion diffusion barrier, rapid electrochemical kinetics and pseudocapacitive-dominated Li⁺ storage mechanism of the heterostructured GDY@CNT. This study offers valuable insights into interfacial charge regulation and transport optimization in GDY-based composites and carbonaceous anodes for high-performance LIBs.

Developing a convenient and high-performance blood glucose sensor is crucial for the effective diagnosis and management of diabetes. Sweat sensing offers a noninvasive method for detecting glucose levels; however, the complexities involved in enzyme immobilization and their sensitivity to environmental conditions during detection pose significant challenges in the development of enzyme-based sensors. Herein, this work proposes a graphdiyne oxide/gold nanoparticles (GDYO/AuNPs) composite electrode for nonenzyme glucose detection in sweat. The resulting sensor achieves a remarkable sensitivity (168 μA mM–1 cm–2), along with a low detection limit (4.11 μM). Such performance stems from the synergetic effect between AuNPs and the oxygen-rich functional groups of the GDYO substrate. This combination greatly enhances the dehydrogenation process during glucose oxidation. Moreover, the sensor exhibits superior selectivity with the coexistence of four other common substances in human sweat and maintains its glucose detection capabilities under neutral or slightly acidic conditions. Additionally, a GDYO/AuNPs-based wearable glucose sensor successfully monitors glucose fluctuations in human sweat both before and after meals, demonstrating a high correlation with blood glucose levels. Our findings provide a promising electrode for advancing nonenzymatic glucose sensors for in situ monitoring of sweat glucose.

Graphdiyne (GDY) is a new two-dimensional carbon nanomaterial with rich carbon chemical bonds, large conjugation system, porous structure and excellent chemical catalytic properties. In this work, graphdiyne oxide (GDYO), the oxidized form of GDY, was first used to establish a new platform for the simultaneously detection of hydroquinone (HQ), catechol (CC), resorcinol (RC) and p-nitrophenol (p-NP). The microstructure and morphologies of the materials and the surface of the modified electrode were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrocatalytic properties of graphene oxide (GO), GDY and GDYO for CC, HQ, RC and p-NP were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The results show that the GDYO modified glassy carbon electrode (GDYO/GCE) exhibited excellent catalytic activities towards CC, HQ, RC and p-NP. The linear ranges of HQ, CC, RC and p-NP were 1 μM–980 μM, 0.6 μM–692 μM, 1 μM–300 μM and 0.6 μM–203 μM, 203 μM–692 μM with 0.3 μM, 0.2 μM, 0.3 μM and 0.2 μM, respectively. In addition, the electrochemical sensor showed good selectivity, sensitivity and stability. The application in real samples was also evaluated, and the recoveries suggesting that it could be used as an excellent potential material for the simultaneous determination of phenolic compounds in environmental samples.

MXene with excellent flexibility, metallic conductivity, and ultra-high capacitance, makes a promising electrode for flexible supercapacitor . But the serious restacking phenomenon between MXene layers undesirably limits the ion transport kinetics and substantially reduces ion storage sites, badly restricting the rate capability and storage capacity of supercapacitor. Here, we constructed a free-standing, flexible, structurally 3D-interconnected and hydronium ion penetrable MXene/Graphdiyne nanotube (MG) composite film by employing graphdiyne nanotubes (GDY-NTs) with inherent in-plane pores for horizontal-vertical intercalation among MXene layers. Benefiting from the above synergistic effect, this composite film presents a greatly-improved capacitance of 337.4 F g −1 (337.4 C g −1 ) and an obviously-enhanced rate capability of 73 %-remaining at 100 mV s −1 , which is much better than those of the pure Ti 3 C 2 T x films (230.8 F g −1 , 55 %-remaining). Based on it, we developed an asymmetric solid-state flexible supercapacitor with a high energy density of 19.7 Wh kg −1 at the power density of 750 W kg −1 and a capacitance retention of 88.2 % after 10 000 cycles at 8 A g −1 . Evidently, this work provides a new route to solve the restacking issue of MXene for high-performance flexible supercapacitor.

Cost-effective bimetallic oxide catalysts are gradually replacing noble metal catalysts for photocatalytic hydrogen production . This study used a two-step method to synthesize CoMoO 4 with a rod-shaped structurea. CuBr is a catalytic base synthesis graphdiyne material. The graphdiyne that serves to anchor CoMoO 4 rods through a solvent-thermal synthesis method, thereby enhancing the photocatalytic performance of the resultant composite catalyst. The results show that the 5 h hydrogen evolution capacity of the optimized CoMoO 4 /graphdiyne composite catalyst is 187.47 μmol, which is 2.9 times higher than that of CoMoO 4 monomer and 41.7 times higher than that of graphdiyne monomer. The addition of graphdiyne provides a larger comparison area for CoMoO 4 , giving composite catalyst more active sites, and enhancing the optical hydrogenation effect of catalysts. Through the Mott-Schottky test, the UV–visible diffuse reflectance test and band gap calculation can be speculated that the CoMoO 4 and graphdiyne construct the type II heterojunction which promotes the rapid transfer of photogonic carriers. This work provides a good prospect and opportunity for studying graphdiyne in the application of graphdiyne in the application of dualmetal oxides.

Graphdiyne (GDY) adsorbed DNA probes have been used as a fluorescent sensing platform, but topics including DNA adsorption affinities, DNA probe displacement, and fluorescence quenching ability were rarely researched. Herein, the adsorption affinity of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) and double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) on a tremella-like GDY was tuned by modulating the surface chemistry of GDY. The fluorescence quenching ability of GDY with different oxidation degrees was compared. The nonspecific displacement of DNA probes on GDY was studied. Under the same concentrations, GDY with low oxidation degree exhibited stronger adsorption affinity and higher adsorption capacity to both ssDNA and dsDNA than highly oxidized GDY. DNA adsorbed on low-oxidized GDY was more resistant to displacement by other DNAs. Protein showed strong interaction with different GDY and could displace DNA probes on GDY. Based on these findings, an ideal GDY with proper oxidation degree, exhibiting high surface affinity for ssDNA and low affinity for dsDNA, was used as scavenger of redundant ssDNA fluorescent probe in an enzyme-assisted amplification system for sensitive ochratoxin (OTA) detection. This study has enhanced our fundamental understanding of DNA adsorption by GDY. It also provided a rational way to apply GDY for fluorescence sensing in a complicated system. Graphical abstract

Photocatalytic hydrogen production technology has great challenges in designing and synthesizing stable photocatalyst and inhibiting high recombination rate of carriers. In this paper, CoMoO 4 /GDY type-II heterojunctions were successfully constructed by coupling a new two-dimensional layered carbon material graphdiyne (GDY) with molybdate (CoMoO 4 ), and the positive effect of GDY on photocatalytic hydrogen production system was studied. The introduction of GDY provides a large number of reaction sites for the reaction. Moreover, due to the strong light absorption and excellent electrical conductivity of GDY, the photoelectrochemical properties of molybdate (CoMoO 4 ) are enhanced. The construction of type-II heterojunctions effectively promotes the spatial separation of photogenerated electrons and holes. The electron transfer mechanism of the photocatalyst was verified based on DFT and in-situ irradiation X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The experimental results show that the photocatalytic performance of CoMoO 4 /GDY photocatalyst is the best (121 μmol), which is 2 times and 45 times that of CoMoO 4 and GDY, respectively. This study provides a unique idea for the application of GDY in the field of photocatalysis.

Graphdiyne (GDY) is an emerging two-dimensional carbon allotrope comprising unique sp 1 and sp 2 hybridisation, which has attracted extensive investigation into various applications, especially as battery component materials owing to its excellent electromechanical properties. However, GDY's thermal stability and oxidation behaviour have yet to be evaluated, which is crucial to safety in high-energy applications. The present study characterised the thermophysical properties of GDY via reactive molecular dynamics (MD-ReaxFF) and experimental measurement. The oxidation kinetics and decomposition behaviour were elucidated and benchmarked with graphene (GP) and graphyne (GY) to investigate the correlation between thermal stability and morphology of carbon nanomaterials. The simulation results revealed the initial oxidation mechanism of GDY sheets, where the cleavage of C–C bonds was observed at the acetylenic chain and could be identified as the weak spots of the structural stability. As for oxidation kinetics, GDY's experimental and numerical activation energy was found to be 173.1 and 133 kJ/mol, which is lower than 220.8 kJ/mol of GP. The current work pioneer investigated the thermal stability of GDY using both experimental and numerical approaches. Meanwhile, different oxidation mechanisms between GP and GDY were distinguished and demonstrated in detail.
