The bottleneck problem of the development of high-voltage motors to a larger capacity can be solved if the thermal conductivity is improved without sacrificing the insulation characteristics of the main insulation material. In this paper, a spraying technology based on electrospinning is proposed that can evenly spray boron nitride (BN) with high thermal conductivity onto the surface of mica tape. With the increase in BN content, the insulation and thermal conductivity of mica tape are optimized to varying degrees. When the BN content reaches 2.25 wt%, the in-plane conductivity increases from 1.6 to 2.7 w/(m K), while the out-of-plane conductivity increases from 0.17 to 0.26 w/(m K). Additionally, the direct-current (DC) breakdown strength has increased from 90.6 to 96.9 kV/mm and the dielectric constant and dielectric loss are almost unchanged. Finally, through simulation verification, if the modified mica tape is applied to the main insulation of a synchronous motor, the operating temperature of the motor insulation will be reduced from 73.5 to 66.1°C. This study provides a new research idea for the preparation of high thermal conductivity insulating materials.

This study reports novel biomimetic polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogels modified with poly (2-acrylamido-2-ethylpropanesulfonic acid; PAMPS), mica and multi-walled carboxylated carbon nanotubes (CNTCOOH) and evaluates how filler identity and microstructure control functional properties for cartilage like applications. Spectroscopy and elemental mapping confirmed the presence and chemical integrity of all additives. Electron microscopy showed an interconnected porous network whose pore size increases with PAMPS, decreases with mica, and enlarges with CNTCOOH. Combining mica with CNTCOOH produced a denser network that strengthened the material but reduced fluid uptake. Measured water content (WC) ranged from 88.0% to 93.2%. The CNTCOOH rich composition swelled fastest and reached an equilibrium swelling ratio (SR) near 1692%, while the dual filler composition displayed limited swelling. Mechanical testing showed that the dual filler composition achieved the highest tensile strength (TS) of 0.55 MPa and the greatest elongation at break of 165% and also exhibited the highest compressive stiffness under large strain. In contrast, porous CNT rich samples absorbed fluid rapidly but had lower TS. Friction testing under joint like conditions identified hydration lubrication as the main low friction mechanism and the using both filler enriched samples produced the low coefficient of friction (COF) near 0.066. Wear tests after extended cycling revealed low average wear depths for the dual filler hydrogel and only minor surface flattening without cracking or delamination. Together these results demonstrate that deliberate choice and combination of fillers allow predictable tuning of swelling behavior, lubrication and mechanical resilience to meet different biomedical needs.

A multifunctional hybrid filler (CM@CPBA) was fabricated. • CM@CPBA endowed EP coatings with excellent flame retardancy and smoke suppression performance. • CM@CPBA endowed EP coatings with superior microwave absorption and photothermal conversion performance. With the rapid expansion of the new energy vehicle industry, multifunctional epoxy resin (EP) coatings integrating flame retardancy, microwave absorption and photothermal conversion have aroused extensive attention owing to their lightweight and high-safety characteristics. In this work, a multifunctional CM@CPBA hybrid filler was synthesized via carbonization, which was incorporated into EP matrix to fabricate multifunctional EP coatings. CM@CPBA endows EP coatings with superior flame retardancy and smoke suppression performance. Compared with neat EP, the peak heat release rate (pHRR), total heat release (THR) and total smoke production (TSP) of EP coatings filled with 8 wt% CM@CPBA are remarkably reduced by 42.5%, 33.1% and 46.9%, respectively. This is mainly because the CoFeNi in CM@CPBA can catalyze carbonization and cross-linking reactions. Meanwhile, CM forms a molten glassy layer on the material surface, which restrains the further decomposition of the EP coatings. In addition, the multilayer sheet-like structure of CM@CPBA coupled with extensive conductive networks endows EP coatings with superior microwave absorption performance, with a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −51.56 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.7 GHz. Furthermore, the CM@CPBA also endows EP coatings with excellent photothermal conversion capacity. Under identical irradiation conditions, the temperature rise rate of EP/CM@CPBA is improved by 70.34%. Consequently, this multifunctional EP coating satisfies the lightweight and safety requirements of new energy vehicles and offers a novel strategy for the multifunctional design of vehicles composite components. Abstract The application of Aramid/mica composite paper in high-voltage electric insulation is hampered by its limited breakdown strength and mechanical robustness. In this work, Aramid fiber/Mica-NFC composite papers with varied amount of nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) were fabricated by vacuum-assisted self-assembly process, wherein NFC was used as carrier/adhesion polymer. The Aramid fiber/Mica-NFC composite papers exhibited high mechanical strength (~ 29.04 MPa), superior dielectric properties (~ 14.87 kV/mm) and good thermal stability (~ 300 °C). Importantly, NFC acts as interfacial layer since the physical properties of NaOH-Urea treated Aramid/Mica-NFC composite significantly decreased. Based on visualization of NFC by fluorescence tracking, the addition of NFC favors the formation of biomimetic multilayer structure. Furthermore, the co-continuous double-network-like multilayer structured composite achieved an integrated strong and tough character. Therefore, our work shed light on the importance of constructing rational-designed microstructures for the preparation of high-performance composite papers. Graphical abstract

Ablative thermal protection materials are widely used in entry and re-entry vehicles which benefit from their strong adaptability. However, long-term ablation has been a limitation due to the consumption of the matrix of the ablative materials. In this work, the microstructure evolution and ablation properties of the MoSi 2 /mica-modified CF/BPR composites with and without hollow silicate glass microspheres (HSMs) under protracted ablation have been investigated. The mass ablation rates decreased while the linear ablation rates increased when the ablation times were prolonged. The composites with 30 vol.% HSMs have good insulation properties, shown by a lower backside temperature of 240.9 °C after 100 s of ablation. The decrease in thermal conductivity limited heat transfer in both the axial and horizontal directions. This led to heat concentration and severe ablation at the central surface. The three-dimensional porous and the ladder structure formed in the transfer region, and the features gradually disappeared while extending the ablation times because of the flame erosion and formed liquid phases. The heat diffusion and concentration within the matrix established a gradient temperature field, which determined the ablation behavior and mechanism, providing valuable insights for the development of advanced ablative thermal protection materials.

The efficient separation of dyes and salts from textile wastewater is crucial for water resource recovery, yet remains challenging for membranes to achieve both high permeability and selectivity. This study proposes an “intralayer pore + interlayer channel” collaborative screening strategy. A two-dimensional porous mica/polyethyleneimine (PMica/PEI) composite membrane was fabricated via controlled acid etching and interlayer assembly. The acid etching selectively dissolved metal cations within the mica nanosheets, creating abundant in-plane nanopores that provide vertical mass transfer shortcuts. Simultaneously, positively charged PEI co-assembled with the negatively charged porous mica nanosheets via electrostatic interaction, which not only stabilized the lamellar structure but also optimized the chemical microenvironment of the interlayer channels. This unique dual-channel architecture significantly reduced water transport resistance. The optimized PMica/PEI membrane exhibited exceptional water permeability (230.68 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 ) and high rejection rates for large-molecular-weight dyes (Brilliant Blue 99.72%, Congo Red 97.81%), while maintaining low salt rejection (NaCl 6.42%, MgCl 2 8.44%), thereby achieving efficient dye/salt separation. Furthermore, the membrane demonstrated excellent antifouling performance and long-term stability. Compared to commonly used synthetic two-dimensional material membranes, our approach based on natural mica offers distinct advantages of low cost, simple operation, and environmental friendliness, providing a promising technological pathway for treating high-salinity textile wastewater.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) based polymer/ceramic nanocomposites for high energy density dielectrics have long been plagued by their low discharging efficiency (40–60%), which originates from the matrix with high bulk ferroelectric relaxation and the high-k ceramics with large conduction loss. In this work, a linear-like PVDF-based polymer dielectric is synthesized through grafting poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) onto main chains of poly(vinyl fluoride-trifluoroethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE-CTFE)) terpolymer via an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) process. PMMA grafted terpolymer (P(VDF-TrFE-CTFE)-g-PMMA) shows linear-like dielectric characteristics accompanied with greatly enhanced discharging efficiency of ∼80% under 250 MV/m, which is over 100% higher than that of pristine terpolymer. To further improve its breakdown strength and discharging efficiency, the grafted terpolymer are then compounded with ultrasonic-exfoliated mica nanosheets ( e Mica) by solution-cast method. Thanks to the low hysteresis loss of linear-like dielectric matrix and the high insulating 2D mica nanosheets, the composite with the highest discharging efficiency of ∼78% under 250 MV/m is achieved. The maximum energy density of the optimized composite reaches 9.6 J/cm 3 , which is nearly 290% that of the pristine terpolymer. Besides, its discharging efficiency is about 74% under 450 MV/m, which is much more advantageous than the other PVDF-based polymer/ceramics composite dielectrics. This work suggests that utilizing polymer matrix with linear dielectric property and fillers with high insulating 2D structure might be a facile strategy to achieve composite dielectrics with simultaneously high energy density and high discharging efficiency.

Overcoming the interface adhesion and structural strength limitations of traditional insulating paper. • Enhancing dielectric and mechanical properties via PAR nanofiber self-welding strategy. • Achieved 134.48 kV mm −1 breakdown strength in TMS@Mica/PAR −a 5.3 increase vs. aramid paper. High-voltage insulation systems require dielectric papers that can withstand elevated temperatures and complex mechanical deformation, yet conventional aramid and mica papers suffer from weak interfacial adhesion and limited structural robustness. Inspired by the hierarchical overlapping structure of pangolin scales, we developed a surface-functionalization-assisted self-welding strategy to fabricate mica/polyarylate nanofiber composite insulating paper with robust organic/inorganic interfaces. Sericite mica platelets were modified with trimethoxy(2-phenylethyl)silane, forming covalently anchored organosilane layers through condensation between silanol groups and surface hydroxyls. The introduced phenylethyl groups promoted π-π interactions with thermotropic liquid-crystalline polyarylate nanofibers, thereby enhancing mica dispersion, interfacial wettability, and adhesion. Through wet ball milling and controllable hot pressing, the surface-functionalized mica platelets were uniformly embedded and aligned within the polyarylate nanofiber network, forming a pangolin-scale-like laminated architecture. During hot pressing, the thermoplastic nanofibers underwent in situ self-welding, producing compact, continuous, and defect-suppressed interfacial regions. The combined effects of covalent anchoring, π-π coupling, bioinspired layered assembly, and interfacial densification reduced interfacial voids and local electric-field distortion. Consequently, the TMS@Mica/PAR paper exhibited a breakdown strength of 134.48 kV mm⁻ 1 , 25.14% higher than unmodified Mica/PAR paper and markedly exceeding commercial aramid paper and mica paper. After aging at 200 ℃ for 24 h, it retained a breakdown strength of 120.93 kV mm⁻ 1 and showed only slight degradation after repeated folding and crumpling, demonstrating excellent thermal stability and mechanical durability. All inorganic CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have been widely reported. However, the poor stability of CsPbX 3 QDs limits their application in the field of optoelectronics . In this work, CsPbX 3 QDs were prepared by the hot injection strategy. We compounded CsPbX 3 QDs with mica to improve stability. A series of novel CsPbX 3 @mica composites with high thermal stability and light radiation stability were successfully fabricated and the narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) of blue, green and red emissions are ~17 nm, ~21 nm and ~37 nm, respectively. What's more, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of CsPbBr 3 @mica composite is 38.5%. Notably, the white light-emitting diodes (wLED) device can be manufactured by coupling the red-emitting CsPbBr 1 I 2 @mica composite material and commercial phosphor YAG: Ce 3+ with the InGaN chip to produce bright natural white light. Meanwhile, CsPbX 3 @mica composites can be used as color conversion materials to construct a LED device, which exhibits a wide color gamut covering up 115.7% of National Television System Committee (NTSC). This present work provided novel CsPbX 3 @mica composites and could bring the potential inspiration in backlit display and lighting applications.

Ablation material had been widely used in aerospace attributed to its reliability and strong adaptability but was usually accompanied by low strength at higher temperatures. Here, a high flexural strength of 66.91 MPa after ablation at 1500 °C of carbon fiber/boron phenolic resin (CF/BPR) composite modified by MoSi 2 and mica was reported. With the proportion of MoSi 2 and mica was 9:1, the formed appropriate content of the liquid phase improved the reactivity of MoSi 2 powders and provided a suitable interfacial state between CF and the matrix. The result of the oxygen-acetylene test showed that the mass ablation and the linear ablation reduced to 0.034 g/s and 0.006 mm/s, respectively. Owing to the formed liquid phase wrapping the carbon fiber and ceramic layer on the surface improved the ablation resistance. These high-strength CF/BPR composites have strong potential in new aerospace materials.

Digital light processing (DLP) techniques are widely employed in various engineering and design fields, particularly additive manufacturing. Acrylate resins utilized in DLP processes are well known for their versatility, which enables the production of defect-free 3D-printed products with excellent mechanical properties. This study aims to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of 3D-printed samples by incorporating mica as an inorganic filler at different concentrations (5%, 10%, and 15%) and optimizing the dispersion by adding a KH570 silane coupling agent. In this study, mica was introduced as a filler and combined with epoxy acrylate resin to fabricate a 3D-printed sample. Varying concentrations of mica (5%, 10%, and 15%w/w) were mixed with the epoxy acrylate resin at a concentration of 10%, demonstrating a tensile strength increase of 85% and a flexural strength increase of 132%. Additionally, thermal characteristics were analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and successful morphological investigations were conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Digital light-processing technology was selected for its printing accuracy and cost-effectiveness. The results encompass comprehensive studies of the mechanical, thermal, and morphological aspects that contribute to the advancement of additive manufacturing technology.

This study investigates the novel application of polyetheramine (PEA) as an eco-friendly collector for quartz-mica flotation separation under pH-neutral conditions, focusing on its flotation behavior, adsorption mechanisms, and separation efficacy compared to the conventional dodecylamine (DDA). The single mineral flotation demonstrated the superior selectivity of PEA, achieving an 87 % flotation recovery differential (93 % for quartz vs. 6 % for mica), significantly outperforming the 26 % differential of DDA. The mixed minerals (mass ratio: Quartz/Mica = 2/1) flotation shows that PEA can effectively separate the quartz and the mica. Composition analysis shows that the flotation product phase composition is consistent with the single mineral. The quartz content in the 2nd froth product reaches 95.88 % (78.86 % recovery). The mica content in the sink product reaches 71.19 % (91.09 % recovery). Adsorption test analysis indicates that PEA and DDA are mainly adsorbed on minerals by electrostatic adsorption through the ─NH 3 + group. DFT calculations show that the difference in PEA adsorption energy between the quartz and the mica surfaces is 1.52 eV (DDA is only 0.2 eV). Based on the above results we analyzed the adsorption and separation mechanisms. The findings establish PEA as a sustainable alternative to conventional pH-dependent collectors, eliminating acid/alkali consumption while maintaining high separation efficiency.
