Transition metal oxalates have attracted people's attention owing to their low cost, low lithium insertion potential and high theoretical reversible capacities. Disappointingly, high irreversible capacity thanks to the formation of SEI as well as the consumption and exfoliation of active materials during the process of cycling severely restrict its application of it. In this work, a comprehensive evaluation of Co, Ni, Cu and Zn doped manganese oxalate was made. All samples are synthesized via facile and time-saving microwave hydrothermal method . It is intriguing that merely 30 min is required to accomplish the entire process and all samples possess fine electrochemical performance. As far as the four bimetallic oxalates, the resulting Mn 0·5 Ni 0·5 C 2 O 4 exhibits the optimum performance (746.2 mA h g −1 after 100 cycles at 0.2 A g −1 and 546.7 mA h g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 400 cycles), which can be attributed to one-dimensional rod-like morphology of Mn 0·5 Ni 0·5 C 2 O 4 as well as the synergistic and catalytic effect of Mn and Ni, resulting in faster electrode kinetics . Mn 0.5 Ni 0.5 C 2 O 4 displays incalculable potential and can be applied in the highly reversible lithium-ion batteries.

Accurate detection of glucose is essential for the diagnosis of diabetes, wherein effective and sensitive biosensors for glucose detection are needed. Here, we fabricated a glucose sensor based on field-effect transistor (FET) with bimetallic nickel-copper metal-organic frameworks (Ni/Cu-MOFs) as its channel layers which were grown in-situ through a simple one-step hydrothermal method and modified with glucose oxidase (GOD) by using glutaraldehyde (GA) as linkers. Due to the synergistic effect of Ni ions and Cu ions in MOFs, the sensor (GOD-GA-Ni/Cu-MOFs-FET) showed good field effect performance and great responses to glucose through enzymatic reactions . It displayed a piecewise linear relationship in the wide range (1 μM–20 mM), and provided high sensitivity (26.05 μAcm −2 mM −1 ) in the low concentration (1–100 μM) and a low detection limit (0.51 μM). The sensor also had these advantages of high specificity, excellent reproducibility, good short-term stability and fast response time. Especially, it is indicated that the Ni/Cu-MOFs-FETs with high performance have the potential to be available sensors, paving the way for the application of bimetallic MOFs in biosensing.

Indole is commonly reported as a N-containing heterocyclic compounds in biomass supercritical water gasification (SCWG), and is difficult to be degraded to small molecule substances. In this work, Ni/AC, Ni–Cu/AC, Ni–Co/AC, Ni–Ce/AC were prepared and tested for catalytic SCWG of indole. The results showed that Ni–Cu/AC had the highest activity for converting indole and producing gases, leading to the highest hydrogen gasification efficiency (135.1%) and carbon gasification efficiency (33.1%). During the catalytic SCWG of indole, the addition of auxiliary metal Cu in multi-component catalyst showed synergistic effects by changing reaction pathways and reaction rates. It significantly promoted water-gas shift and steam reforming reactions, so forming the highest H 2 yield of 2.62 mol mol −1 . Furthermore, large specific surface, Ni reduction and high catalyst stability point to potential advantages of the Ni–Cu/AC catalyst for catalytic SCWG of recalcitrant N-containing compounds.

In the realm of glucose detection, nickel-based and copper-based nanocomposites have garnered significant attention due to their exceptional catalytic performance and high sensitivity. This study realized linear detection across dual concentration ranges in alkaline media by in situ growing Ni/Cu-BTC spherical nanocatalysts on reduced graphene oxide (rGO). From 350 μM to 2.95 mM, with a low detection limit (LOD L ) of 21.7 μM (S/N = 3) and a sensitivity (S L ) of 40 nA mM −1 cm −2 ; from 2.95 mM to 9.45 mM, the high-concentration detection limit (LOD H ) is 1.1 mM (S/N = 3), with an improved sensitivity (S H ) of 165.7 nA mM −1 cm −2 . The response time (t) is under 2 s. Additionally, the sensor demonstrated robust interference resistance, excellent stability (%RSD = 3.57 %), repeatability (%RSD = 2.27 %), and reproducibility (%RSD = 2.34 %). In real-world sample testing, this sensor measured glucose concentrations in plasma from healthy individuals both on an empty stomach and half an hour after eating, with a relative standard deviation range of 0.94 %–2.33 %. These results suggest that the rGO-Ni/Cu-BTC composite is a promising enzyme-free electrochemical sensing material for glucose detection

Herein, a Cr-doped Ni-Cu/(NiOH) 2 coating supported on nickel foam (Ni-Cu-Cr/NF) was fabricated via a facile one-step electrodeposition strategy and employed as an efficient electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline media. In 1 M NaOH, Ni–Cu–Cr/NF requires an overpotential of 30 mV to reach a current density of − 10 mA cm⁻ 2 and exhibits a Tafel slope of 55 mV dec⁻ 1 . These electrochemical results are associated with the combined effects of the multicomponent composition and an increased electrochemically active surface area (ECSA). The ECSA of Ni–Cu–Cr/NF is approximately 23.6 times that of Ni–Cu/NF. In addition, the catalyst maintains stable operation for 60 h during continuous electrolysis. This work presents a simple preparation method for the novel Ni-Cu-Cr/NF catalyst and systematically investigates the impact of Cr doping on enhancing catalytic performance, providing an effective strategy for the development of nickel-based alloy electrocatalysts. A new type of Ni-Cu/Si 3 N 4 nanocomposites was prepared by pulse electrodeposition technology, which can be used for corrosion protection in seawater environment. XRD , SEM, AFM, EDS and XPS were used to study the structure, morphology, and surface composition of the deposited layers. The hardness and anti-corrosion performance of the deposits were evaluated using a microhardness tester and an electrochemical workstation. Meanwhile, the samples were characterized by EIS , SEM, EDS and XPS after immersion in simulated seawater for 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days. The results show that the average crystallite size of the nanocomposite with face-centered cubic structure is 13.2 nm, and has a dense granular nodular structure without obvious defects. EDS and XPS demonstrated the successful embedding of Si 3 N 4 nanoparticles with uniform distribution in the coating. Besides, it was found that embedding Si 3 N 4 particles in Ni-Cu alloy coatings can significantly strengthen the microhardness and anti-corrosion performance of the material. Furthermore, the Ni-Cu-Si 3 N 4 (0.7 g·L −1 ) nanocomposite exhibited excellent corrosion resistance even after immersion in simulated seawater medium for 28 days.

The in-situ hydrodeoxygenation of bio-derived phenol is an attractive routine for upgrading bio-oils. Herein, an active trimetallic Ni-Cu-Co/Al2O3catalyst was prepared and applied in the in-situ hydrodeoxygenation of bio-derived phenol. Comparison with the monometallic Ni/Al2O3catalyst and the bimetallic Ni-Co/Al2O3and Ni-Cu/Al2O3catalysts, the Ni-Cu-Co/Al2O3catalyst exhibited the highest catalytic activity because of the formation of Ni-Cu-Co alloy on the catalyst characterized by using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR), N2physisorption, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The phenol conversion of 100% and the cyclohexane yield of 98.3% could be achieved in the in-situ hydrodeoxygenation of phenol at 240 °C and 4 MPa N2for 6 h. The synergistic effects of Ni with Cu and Co of the trimetallic Ni-Cu-Co/Al2O3catalyst played a significant role in the in-situ hydrodeoxygenation process of phenol, which not only had a positive effect on the production of hydrogen but also owned an excellent hydrogenolysis activity to accelerate the conversion of cyclohexanol to cyclohexane. Furthermore, the catalyst also exhibited excellent recyclability and good potential for the upgrading of bio-oils.Keywords:bio-derived phenol;Ni-Cu-Co/Al2O3;in-situ hydrodeoxygenation;cyclohexane;hydrogenolysis

Transformation of biomass or biomass-based feedstocks into fuels or valuable chemicals is of great importance for the sustainable development of our society. Mesoporous Al2O3–ZrO2 with different Al : Zr molar ratios was prepared by the sol–gel method, and Cu–Ni/Al2O3–ZrO2 catalysts were fabricated by the impregnation method. The catalytic performances of the bifunctional catalysts were studied in the selective hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA) into 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (MTHF). It was demonstrated that both Cu : Ni and Al : Zr ratios affected the selectivity to MTHF significantly. The bimetallic catalysts Cu–Ni/Al2O3–ZrO2 containing 10 wt% Ni and 10 wt% Cu gave 99.8% MTHF selectivity at full conversion of LA when the Al : Zr ratio was 9 : 1. The outstanding catalytic performance of the catalyst is related to the mesoporous structure, the acidic properties of the support and the synergistic effect between Cu and Ni. The catalyst could be reused five times without a considerable loss of catalytic activity and selectivity.

Electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction to CH 4 remains challenging due to multi-electron transfer and intermediates adsorption. Herein, we synthesized electrocatalysts by growing Ni-Cu alloy structure on nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (Ni x Cu y -NCNT) for electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) via hydrothermal method followed by pyrolysis. The optimized Ni 1 Cu 1 -NCNT demonstrated a superior CO 2 RR performance, achieving 99.7% \(\text{FE}_{\text{CH}_{4}}\) (FE = Faradaic efficiency) and 11.54 mA • cm −2 current density at −1.2 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), which outperformed single metal counterparts. Its outstanding performance was due to the electrons transferred from Cu to Ni and Ni-Cu alloy shifted the d-band center toward the Fermi level, which was more conducive to the intermediate formation. In situ electrochemical attenuated total reflection (EC-ATR) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed the appearance of *CHO intermediate and the pathway during the CO 2 RR process. The design of the bimetallic electrocatalyst in this study provides a new perspective for the highly selective reduction of CO 2 .

The performance of bimetallic catalysts is closely related to their surface structure, and the surface reconstruction process can affect the distribution of active sites, electronic structure, and reactant adsorption behavior. Traditional research has mostly focused on optimizing synthesis processes, such as controlling the size and distribution of metal particles, whereas there is relatively little research on the effect of pretreatment conditions on the dynamic structure of catalysts. In this study, a 10Ni─1Cu catalyst was synthesized using the deposition–precipitation method, and the effects of different pretreatment conditions on its performance were investigated. The catalyst was first pretreated at 500°C in a 60%H 2 /40%N 2 atmosphere, followed by reduction under different pretreatment atmospheres (10%H 2 /90%N 2 or 15%CO 2 /60%H 2 /25%N 2 ) at the same temperature. At 400°C and a space velocity of 30 L h −1 g −1 , the methane production rate of the catalyst treated in the reaction atmosphere significantly increased from 12.4 to 15.8 µmol g −1 s −1 compared to the catalyst treated with hydrogen alone. Characterization techniques, such as TEM, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (CO-DRIFTS), were employed to study the structural properties of the catalysts, focusing on the surface properties after reduction and the surface species during the reaction. This study demonstrates that catalysts pretreated in the reaction atmosphere enhance methane production rates by regulating the surface structure and forming Ni─Cu alloy structures with a lower Ni/Cu ratio, thereby optimizing the selectivity of hydrogenation products.

Converting carbon dioxide into fuel via photocatalysis holds immense significance in advancing the cause of sustainable energy generation. In this work, co-doped In 2 O 3 nanosheets with two transition metals, nickel (Ni) and copper (Cu), were successfully prepared using a straightforward ammonia precipitation and calcination technique. Notably, the 10 %Ni-5 %Cu-In 2 O 3 sample exhibited a remarkable CO generation rate of 528.8 μmol g −1 h −1 , which is a substantial 43.63-fold increase compared to the pristine In 2 O 3 (12.1 μmol g −1 h −1 ). Furthermore, the selectivity of the CO product was significantly enhanced from 19.7 % to 69.4 %, marking a significant improvement. The incorporation of Ni and Cu effectively modulated the energy band positions of In 2 O 3 , the synergistic modulation of these bimetals jointly augmented the light absorption of In 2 O 3 across various visible wavelength regions. Additionally, the introduction of Ni and Cu notably prolonged the lifetime of photogenerated carriers and facilitated the spatial separation of electrons and holes. The smaller radius of the doped Ni and Cu ions compared to In may have induced defect formation, leading to a stronger adsorption capacity. Our findings not only underscore the efficacy of transition metal co-doping in photocatalytic CO 2 reduction but also offer valuable insights into the design and fabrication of such catalysts.
