SWCNT-bridged laser-induced graphene fibers decorated with MnO2 nanoparticles for high-performance flexible micro-supercapacitors

Min Yuan,Feng Luo,Yifan Rao,Jiabing Yu,Zeping Wang,Hui Li,Xianping Chen

Hybrid nanocomposites comprised of metal oxide nanoparticles and three-dimensional (3D) graphene possess the advantages of metal oxide and graphene, which have generated extensive attention. Here, we fabricate flexible micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) based on hybrid materials of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT)-bridged laser-induced graphene fibers (LIGF) decorated with manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ) nanoparticles . SWCNT is deposited on the LIGF surface and the space between LIGF, which can bridge LIGF to form more conductive paths and provide more active areas to grow with MnO 2 nanoparticles . Profiting from the synergistic effect between conductive SWCNT-bridged LIGF network and the MnO 2 nanoparticles with high theoretical capacitance, the obtained flexible MSCs based on LIGF-C4/MnO 2 hybrid electrodes deliver an outstanding areal capacitance of 156.94 mF cm −2 , which is about 8 times higher than that of LIGF-MnO 2 based MSC (20 mF cm −2 ). Additionally, the LIGF-C4/MnO 2 MSCs also exhibit considerable areal energy density of 21.8 μWh cm −2 , long-term cycling stability, remarkable modular integration capability, and exceptional mechanical flexibility (with 90.5% capacitance retention after 1200 bending cycles). Therefore, the design of hybrid electrode materials proposed in this work offers a facile and novel method to develop flexible energy storage devices with high performance, suggesting great prospects for applications in future various wearable electronics.

Construction and feasibility research in acute myocardial infarction detection based on near-infrared fluorescent SWCNT biosensor

Xiaotong Chen,Xinqi Li,Mengfan Zhang,Xiangju Liu,Lian Li

A solid-phase ssDNA-SWCNT NIR fluorescence sensing platform was developed. • Various immobilization strategies were explored systematically. • Rapid detection of AMI-related miRNA biomarkers was achieved within 15 min. • The platform shows good sensitivity and specificity, meeting POCT requirements. Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a life-threatening cardiovascular emergency caused by acute and persistent obstruction of the coronary arteries, resulting in irreversible necrosis of myocardial tissue. Therefore, point-of-care testing (POCT) is of great importance. Traditional analytical methods, such as cardiac troponin detection, are usually time-consuming. In this study, a solid-phase near-infrared fluorescence biosensing platform based on single-stranded DNA–functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (ssDNA–SWCNTs) for the rapid detection of AMI-associated miRNA-208a biomarker was established. The miDNA208a functionalized SWCNTs were constructed by probe ultrasonic fragmentation and ultrafiltration centrifugal purification methods. Then a poly- l -lysine (PLL) immobilization strategy was applied to obtain a uniform and stable fixed sensor. The fluorescence response kinetics, selective recognition capability, quantitative concentration relationship, and long-term storage stability of the sensor were tested to demonstrate its high specificity for the target miRNA-208a compared to nonspecific and mutant sequences in both buffer and serum systems. The results showed that miDNA208a–SWCNT sensors could be used for the early POCT of AMI, providing diagnostic information rapidly, sensitively, and specifically detecting miRNA-208a in serum within 15 min, and has the potential to be expanded to the detection of other disease biomarkers. This platform is easy to operate and enables rapid detection which offers a novel technological solution with clinical translation potential for the early POCT of AMI. Current-Enhanced Tribovoltaic Nanogenerators Based on Dynamic Schottky Junctions Using SWCNT-Induced Local Electric-Field Effect

Ruxuan Zhang,Kun Li,Tian Tian,Jing Liu,Zhiyan He,Yanjie Su

Direct-current tribovoltaic nanogenerators (DC-TVNGs) based on dynamic semiconductor junctions can generate electrical output without external rectification. However, their scalable application is constrained by the substantial decrease in current output with increasing device dimensions. Here, we introduce single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) into a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly (styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS)/aluminum (Al) dynamic Schottky junction to establish an SWCNT-induced local electric-field effect for enhanced tribovoltaic current generation. The optimized centimeter-scale SWCNT-PEDOT/Al device delivers a short-circuit current of 235 μA, an open-circuit voltage of 1.44 V, and a maximum power density of 169.2 mW m-2 at a load resistance of 30 kΩ. The incorporation of SWCNTs plays a dual role by establishing an interconnected conductive network that facilitates carrier transport and creating nanoscale protrusions that form electrically active local contacts at the dynamic interface, providing the structural basis for the proposed SWCNT-induced local electric-field effect. Correlative AFM and c-AFM mapping further reveal that SWCNT-associated nanoscale protrusions coincide with localized high-current regions, demonstrating their distinct local electrical activity and establishing a clear correlation between nanoscale morphology and local electrical response. Through systematic investigations of operating parameters, including sliding velocity and normal pressure, the device performance was further optimized, enabling efficient capacitor charging and the direct illumination of LEDs. This work demonstrates an effective strategy for enhancing tribovoltaic current output through the SWCNT-induced local electric-field effect and provides a promising route toward high-current DC-TVNGs for scalable mechanical energy harvesting.

Flexible MXene/SWCNT Composite Films with Honeycomb Structure for Efficient Electromagnetic Interference Shielding and Joule Heating

Yuxin Chen,Yunfan Yang,Chunhui Wang,Shiting Wu,Ding Zhang,Zhaoyun Lin,Fengmei Guo,Yingjiu Zhang,Yuanyuan Shang,Anyuan Cao

The increasing trend towards miniaturization and portability in electronic devices spurs the development of lightweight, efficient, and flexible materials for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) is an ideal EMI shielding material due to its high conductivity and two-dimensional structure, but it tends to stack easily, which limits its EMI shielding effectiveness (SE). Herein, we prepared a structurally adjustable composite film using a simple and environmentally friendly roller infiltration combined with freeze-drying method. A continuous single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) film was introduced as the conductive skeleton, and freeze-drying was employed to regulate the internal structure of the composite film, which effectively mitigated the self-stacking of MXene. The limited load-bearing capacity of SWCNT film and the increase in MXene concentration jointly modulated the internal structure of the composite film changed from “large pores sparsity” to “small pores density”. Interestingly, compared to the dense film formed by vacuum drying (59 dB, 2.08 × 10 4 dB·cm 2 ·g -1 ), the film prepared by freeze-drying exhibited a honeycomb-like porous structure. When the porosity of the prepared composite film was about 59.2%, the film achieved a significant EMI SE of up to 90 dB and a specific SE of 4.63 × 10 4 dB·cm 2 ·g -1 . It also demonstrated excellent flexibility and good thermal management performance, with the surface temperature reaching 66.1°C at a voltage of 3 V, showing significant potential in aerospace and wearable electronic applications.

NiO/SWCNT-Based Spiral Yarn Sensor with Strain Compensation for Reliable Temperature Detection in Dynamic Environments

Zhe Li,Yawen Wei,Yingcun Liu,Zhe Sun,Li Niu,Jian Fang

Textile-based temperature sensors often suffer from signal distortion due to strain interference in practical applications, severely limiting their reliability in dynamic environments. To address this challenge, this study developed a strain-insensitive resistive temperature-sensing yarn with a helical structure, named CNAS. The yarn utilizes aramid fiber as the substrate. After modification with polydopamine (PDA), single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were loaded onto the substrate through five cycles of dipping and drying. Subsequently, a uniform nickel oxide (NiO) sensitive layer was constructed on its surface via electrodeposition followed by thermal decomposition. The sensitive yarn (CNA) was then helically wrapped onto a prestretched Spandex core yarn to form the CNAS composite yarn. Experimental results demonstrate that CNAS exhibits a resistance variation below 4% within a strain range of 0–93% and maintains stable performance after 500 stretching cycles. It displays a significant negative temperature coefficient (NTC) behavior within a temperature range of −20 to 70 °C, with its sensitivity markedly superior to that of pure carbon nanotube (CNT) or graphene (GR) yarns. Human wear trials further confirmed that the yarn can effectively distinguish temperature changes from strain interference induced by joint movements. An alarm system built using CNAS enables reliable visual alerts for ambient temperature changes. This research provides an innovative and practical solution for anti-interference wearable temperature sensors.

Scalable wet-spun stretchable conductive fibers with SWCNT-enhanced mechanical and electrical properties for multifunctional wearables

Xu Zhao,Zirong Luo,Tuanzhang Li,Wenfa Mao,Fangting Mo,Yanqiu Shao,Shuang Li,Jizhen Zhang,Na Kong,Jihua Li,Jinlong Tao

Stretchable conductive fibers demonstrate considerable potential in various wearable flexible devices. However, the scalable fabrication of stretchable conductive fibers that combine ultrahigh stretchability with excellent electrical conductivity remains a significant challenge. Here, we report a simple and scalable wet-spinning strategy to prepare continuous multifunctional pre-vulcanized natural rubber (NR) latex (PNRL)/single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) composite fibers. The effects of SWCNT microstructure and doping ratio on the mechanical and electrical properties of the composite fibers are systematically investigated. Remarkably, with only 1 wt% SWCNT, the composite fibers achieve a tensile strength of 28.46 ± 1.41 MPa, a strain at break of up to 900 ± 70 %, and an electrical conductivity of 0.297 ± 0.09 S·m −1 . In-situ X-ray scattering characterization revealed that SWCNTs facilitate strain-induced crystallization of NR, acting as nucleation sites that promote the stretch-induced alignment of NR chains, leading to a significant enhancement in the mechanical properties of the PNRL/SWCNT composite fibers. These fibers demonstrate excellent multifunctionality and practical applicability as strain sensors and solar-heating fabrics. This study not only offers a scalable route to high-performance stretchable conductive fibers, but also provides valuable insights into the design principles for optimizing nanocomposite fiber properties.

Harnessing the spectrum: High-performance infrared electrochromic device with multicolor visibility based on PEDOT:PSS/SWCNT films

Wenchao Liu,Leipeng Zhang,Dongqi Liu,Yike Zhang,Lei Xu,Qiumei Jiang,Yuqiang Wang,Jiupeng Zhao,Yao Li

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is a highly promising electrochromic material for intelligent thermal management due to its intrinsic high conductivity, which enables electro-emissive modulation without additional conductive electrodes. However, practical applications are hindered by incomplete reduction of PEDOT during electrochemical cycling, leading to suboptimal emissivity modulation. Moreover, its monotonic color change in the visible spectrum constrains its functional versatility. To overcome these constraints, we introduce an innovative doping strategy utilizing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), which form a percolating conductive network and enhance charge transfer via π-π interaction-enabled electron delocalization. This synergistic effect promotes more complete reduction of PEDOT, leading to significantly enhanced modulation of thermal emissivity. Furthermore, through the incorporation of functional dyes, we expand the visible color adaptability of the films, achieving reversible transitions between yellow-green and green states. The resulting PEDOT:PSS/SWCNT-based electrochromic devices demonstrate remarkable performance: an emissivity modulation (∆ε) of 0.27 in the 3–5 μm band and 0.35 in the 8–14 μm atmospheric window, rapid switching (2.7 s for both bleaching and coloring), and excellent mechanical and cycling stability. Notably, by implementing an auxiliary silver grid electrode, we successfully scaled the device to 15 × 15 cm 2 , demonstrating a viable route toward large-area applications. This work provides a scalable pathway to high-performance PEDOT-based electrochromic materials and devices, highlighting their potential in advanced thermal management applications.

Na3V2(PO4)2F3–SWCNT: a high voltage cathode for non-aqueous and aqueous sodium-ion batteries

Shuang Liu,Liubin Wang,Jian Liu,Meng Zhou,Qingshun Nian,Yazhi Feng,Zhanliang Tao,Lianyi Shao

Due to the merits of low cost, safety, environmental friendliness, and abundant sodium reserves, non-aqueous and aqueous sodium-ion batteries are wonderful alternatives for large-scale energy storage. Na+ super ionic conductor structured Na3V2(PO4)2F3 is considered as a potential high-capacity cathode material for Na-ion batteries. However, its insufficient cyclability remains a challenge for battery applications. In addition, the narrow electrochemical stability window (1.23 V) of aqueous electrolytes does not allow us to make the best use of it. All of these pose obstacles to the practical voltage and energy output. Therefore, we designed and synthesized a Na3V2(PO4)2F3–SWCNT composite, which demonstrated superior Na+-storage performance with a high reversible capacity of 117 mA h g−1 at a moderate current of 0.5C in non-aqueous electrolyte. In addition, we developed an aqueous rechargeable sodium ion battery using Na3V2(PO4)2F3–SWCNT as the cathode and NaTi2(PO4)3–MWCNT as the anode, and this battery can deliver a high energy density of 150 W h kg−1 with an operating voltage of up to 2.0 V by using the high concentration electrolyte, 17 m NaClO4. The outstanding electrochemical performance makes Na3V2(PO4)2F3–SWCNT a promising cathode for Na+ storage and encourages more investigations into practical sodium-ion battery applications.

Facile premixed flame synthesis C@Fe2O3/SWCNT as superior free-standing anode for lithium-ion batteries

Wenyu Wang,Yu Feng,Shuaiguo Zhang,Miao Wang,Wei Song,Luchao Yue,Mingzheng Ge,Jie Mi

Premixed flame configuration is considered as an effective method for the synthesis of carbon materials. In this work, flexible single-walled carbon nanotube network decorated by carbon-encapsulated Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles (C@Fe 2 O 3 /SWCNT) membrane was in-situ fabricated via a facile floating catalyst premixed ethanol flame method, and followed by annealing treatment. In this process, low-cost ethanol and ferrocene were used as carbon source and catalyst precursor for the synthesis of C@Fe 2 O 3 /SWCNT, respectively. Benefiting from the interconnected conductive network, the as-fabricated C@Fe 2 O 3 /SWCNT membrane was used as a free-standing anode for lithium-ion batteries. Structural characterization revealed that the ultrafine Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles homogeneously anchored on the SWCNT network, which facilitates the fast diffusion for electron. Furthermore, the carbon layers uniformly enwrap on Fe 2 O 3 can effectively suppress the aggregation and buffer the volume change of Fe 2 O 3 during the lithiation/delithiation process. Consequently, this material delivered an excellent lithium storage performance with a high reversible capacity of 1294.7 mAh g −1 at 50 mA g −1 , and an excellent cyclability of 82.5% retention is obtained after cycles at 2 A g −1 . This study provides a novel low-cost and fast method for preparing flexible advanced electrode for next-generation rechargeable batteries.

Free-standing p-Type SWCNT/MXene composite films with low thermal conductivity and enhanced thermoelectric performance

Jiacheng Wei,Dianlun Wu,Chunfa Liu,Fei Zhong,Guibin Cao,Benzhang Li,Chunmei Gao,Lei Wang

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) show great potential as flexible thermoelectric (TE) materials, however, the low Seebeck coefficients and high thermal conductivities restrict their applications in this field. In this work, taking the advantages of one-dimensional (1D) SWCNTs and two-dimensional (2D) MXenes, a series of three-dimensional (3D) hollow structured SWCNT/MXene films had been prepared for the first time as potent p-Type TE materials. First, compared to that of SWCNTs, the Seebeck coefficients of the composites can be increased due to energy-filtering effect at the SWCNT/MXene interfaces. Holes in the SWCNTs were compensated by electrons from MXenes, leading to a decreased hole concentration, which can also increase the Seebeck coefficients. Second, 3D hollow structures were formed in the composite films, which can decrease the thermal conductivity significantly. Third, contact junctions between SWCNTs and MXenes were formed in the composites, which were beneficial for electron transfer. As a result, at MXene loading of 10 wt%, SWCNT/MXene-10 displayed the highest TE performance. The Seebeck coefficient and ZT value is about 2 times and 20 times higher than that of the neat SWCNTs, respectively. At last, a TE device consists of 10 SWCNT/MXene-10 legs was prepared with a maximum output power of 1.54 µW at temperature difference of 117.3 K. This work provides a facile strategy in designing of SWCNT-based TE materials with high performances.

Voltammetric Sensor for Sudan I Based on Glassy Carbon Electrode Modified by SWCNT/β-Cyclodextrin Conjugate

Yu Cao,Zhihui Fang,Duanguang Yang,Yong Gao,Huaming Li

We reported a sensitive voltammetric sensor for Sudan I determination by modifying glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)/β-cyclodextrin conjugate. The cyclic voltammetry results showed that the modified GCE exhibited strong catalytic activity toward the electro-reduction of Sudan I with a well-defined cyclic voltammetric peak at -673 mV. Differential pulse voltammetry measurement showed that the response current exhibited a linear range between 50 nM and 5 μM, and the detection limit was as low as 2.22 nM (S/N = 3). The enhanced electrochemical performance of the fabricated sensor was attributed to the combination of the excellent electrocatalytic properties of SWCNTs and the molecular recognition ability of β-cyclodextrin to Sudan I. The sensor was successfully applied to determine Sudan I in real food samples with satisfactory results.

Flexible poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-tosylate/SWCNT composite films with ultrahigh electrical conductivity for thermoelectric energy harvesting

Lirong Liang,Xiaodong Wang,Miaomiao Wang,Zhuoxin Liu,Guangming Chen,Guoxing Sun

Recently, organic conductive polymer/carbon nanoparticle thermoelectric (TE) composites or hybrids have received considerable attention due to their attractive structural and electrical characteristics . Here, flexible films of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-tosylate/acidified-single-walled carbon nanotube (PEDOT-Tos/a-SWCNT) composites with greatly enhanced TE performance are fabricated by combination of chemical oxidative polymerization, acid-treatment of SWCNT and vacuum filtration. A typical layered morphology is observed in the binary composites, where strong π-π interactions between the PEDOT-Tos polymer chains and a-SWCNT contribute to a highly conductive network. Besides, the acid-treatment acts as p-type doping for SWCNT, achieving a high electrical conductivity of 4731.6 ± 42.3 S cm −1 for the PEDOT-Tos/a-SWCNT composite at the a-SWCNT content of 35 wt%. The corresponding power factor is calculated to be 119.4 ± 4.3 μW m −1  K −2 , around 108 times of that of the neat PEDOT-Tos. Moreover, a TE module with six PEDOT-Tos/a-SWCNT hybrid legs can generate an output power of 578.9 nW. The present study of the construction of layered conductive network, the employment of Tos as counterions for PEDOT and the acid-treatment for SWCNT promotes the design and fabrication of polymer-based composites for TE applications.
